Make a Chalk-tastic Birthday Party Banner

What’s better than a birthday card? A whole birthday party banner! With this fun and engaging birthday party idea, guests can take time to write or draw special messages to the guest of honor on a banner. The collective artwork can then be displayed on the wall throughout the party!
Alma and her friends have fun exploring their creativity through chalk art. Let your party guests express their creative side as they add artistic flair to the birthday banner. Encourage them to write messages, draw pictures, and add tributes to the guest of honor. Once everyone has added their work, display the banner along with the rest of your party decorations.
Materials
Directions
Spread out a sheet of black or kraft paper on a long table, or on the floor if you need more space. The banner can be any size that works for your home or party.

If you like, you can trim the edges of the paper into interesting shapes or you can cut wavy edges, scalloped edges, or zigzag edges.

Around the banner, place a few containers filled with a variety of sidewalk chalk. The more colors, the better! Or, you could select a few colors to go with a party color scheme.

If you like, you can start the banner by writing a large message in the center.
As guests begin to arrive, the chalk birthday banner is a perfect way to get them engaged in the party! Invite children to choose some chalk and draw or write a message on the banner.

Once all of the guests have added their artwork, an adult can hang the banner on the wall using masking tape.

You may want to leave the banner up even after the party to enjoy the colorful memories!

If you have space outdoors, you can move this project outside. Draw on a banner or even just the sidewalk as you encourage guests to write happy birthday messages. Let children use their creative ideas to draw pictures in pairs or groups. Have fun!
