Steamboats On The Red

A look into how steamboats on the Red River forged a network between the US and Canada.

Looking at the shallow twists and turns of the Red River, its hard to imagine that steam powered paddlewheel boats were once the most important transportation link between St. Paul, MN, and Winnipeg, MB, Canada. Although it lasted barely 50 years, the age of the steamboat forged a commercial network between the United States and Canada that exists to this day in the I-29 corridor.

Steamboats On The Red is a local public television program presented by Prairie Public.
