The Capital

The Capital is Washington, D.C.’s origin story. It tells how choosing the home for the government of the United States almost tore the new nation apart. A French immigrant, a free African American, a Quaker, and the country’s first President came together to forge a “We the People” capital, establishing the People’s Meeting Place -- the US Capitol -- as the centerpiece of D.C. and the nation.
