Women, War, and Work

Located between Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA, the new city of Vanport, OR (population 40,000) was built during the Second World War to house shipyard workers, many of whom were women. Vanport was the most ambitious attempt ever made to shape space, building and services to facilitate the entry of women into the industrial work force in the U.S. Hear from some of these pioneering workforce women.
