It's kind of just a when inspiration strikes, one of us will have an idea.
Sometimes that idea is presented to the rest of us with a lot of parts already put in it.
Sometimes it's just a phrase, or just a rhythm, or just even a verbal idea of what kind of song we want to come up with.
And then we'll collaborate with each other and throw some ideas back and forth.
And before you know it, there's a whole song out there.
Sometimes it takes a couple minutes.
Sometimes it takes a couple months to get that across.
But, process varies.
- The best song seem to come in five minutes or so.
(laughs) - Absolutely.
- Sometimes - My, I think my inspiration for songwriting, at least everything I've ever written, has just come from living life.
I joined the Army when I was 17.
I was in Afghanistan, you know, when I was in my early 20s.
Went through Katrina.
And you know, whenever I'm not on stage, I'm actually a registered nurse.
So, we've been dealing with that whole COVID situation for the last couple years.
And, for me, as a songwriter, it's always been kind of hard to just fabricate a story.
You know, I mean, you know, that's some of the best songs in the entire world or not made off of a true story.
But for me, as Joshua, it's just like with "Kandahar", I wrote that song because I was in Kandahar.
You know, one of my good buddies that I served with, he lost his battle with PTSD, which is, you know, something that you don't go over there and come back the same, you know, nine times outta 10.
And so, you know, I wrote that about him.
We had another acoustic single that we released called "A Nurse's Story", and we released it right at the height of COVID and it really went, you know, what we like to think viral.
It got an invite to Hollywood to be on a show out there.
And, you know, all these, the medical community really stood behind it because it was a song highlighting about what it's like in the front lines of being a nurse.
And, coming from another nurse that was there, it's easy to relate, versus somebody that has absolutely no clue what they're talking about, just writing songs, you know, as a tribute or whatever.
And so, it just comes from what I live through, you know.
That's best way for me.
