(bright music) - Beehive Science and Technology Academy's 13th annual Utah STEM Expo invites the community to experience hundreds of hands-on student created STEM projects.
Here with more details is STEM coordinator Kerrie Upenieks.
Carrie, I'm so happy that you're here today.
- Yeah, I'm here.
Glad to be here.
- How excited are you for this 13th Annual STEM Expo?
- I say every year, this is my Christmas.
This is the best time of the year for me.
- [Liz] Why is that?
- Because it brings together the community, its businesses, universities, and other nonprofit organizations, along with over 800 students doing STEM demonstrations, as well as science fair students from across the valley.
- What is something that people probably, who've never been to the expo, wouldn't expect to see there?
- They probably would not expect to see sub-zero ice cream.
So they make ice cream with liquid nitrogen.
They probably also would not expect to see these kinder through 11th graders explaining the science behind their project and how it helps the community or how it works in the community.
- Why do you think this is something that is really important for the community to experience at this time?
- They need to come and see what the future really holds and to see that these kids really can do it and that they are making a difference.
- I love that.
It is something that is very inspirational and it gives people hope in the next generation.
So talk about where this is gonna be held at.
- It is held at Mountain America Expo Center.
It's free to the public.
It's from 11:00 to 2:00.
So family friendly, all ages need to come and see these students shining.
- And I can't let you go without asking.
This sub-zero ice cream, can people taste it?
- Oh yes.
Yes, it's one of the highlights.
- And you've tasted it?
- I have.
- [Liz] Was it good?
- Very good.
- That's awesome.
