A new day for older Americans.
A time for living.
Your hostess, Charlotte Simmons.
Charlotte Simmons: Welcome to Pau Hana Years.
Music Charlotte Simmons: This week concludes the 16th annual Merrie Monarch Festival and its tribute to hula master and chanter Henry Moikehaokahiki Pa, who was part of the week’s long festivities honoring him.
He died the following week on April 26, 1979.
The festival concludes with more of the hula ʻauana competition.
And to Uncle Henry, me ke aloha pumehana.
(singing in Hawaiian as various hula hālau and individual dancers perform with occasional cheering and applause) Charlotte Simmons: Suspense again fills the air as this evening’s hula ʻauana competition brings the 16th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival to a close.
This year’s festival honored hula kumu Henry Moikehaokahiki Pa, renowned creator of the masculine-style hula.
And that’s Pau Hana Years for this evening.
Until our next program, this is Charlotte Simmons leaving with you with this thought.
From ancient to modern dancing, like music, is yet another form of universal communication.
(singing in Hawaiian as festival winners are listed and credits roll).
