(upbeat music) - Pioneer Theatre Company presents "2 Pianos 4 Hands," a heartfelt and hilarious journey through the ups and downs of two boys chasing their dreams of becoming concert pianists.
Karen Azenberg joins us now to share what makes this production so special.
Karen.
- Hi.
- Hi.
It's so nice to have you.
We love having you on.
We love Pioneer Theatre.
You bring amazing productions, and the performers are always stellar.
- We're very excited.
This season also is, like, packed with great shows and great people.
We're about halfway cast for the season, and that's so exciting.
- Oh, and this particular performance, this is one that's gonna be at the Meldrum Theatre.
- Yes.
- And I love that it's about pianists.
People in Utah love pianists.
We love pianos, and these actors are actually playing on stage, and they are virtuosos.
- They are incredible pianists who are also incredible actors, so we've got a great combination.
Th show is very specific in what the skill set is, so it's not, like, you know, everyone can do it.
The amount of training that it takes to play that well is pretty extensive.
- And how fun to be in the Meldrum Theatre.
'Cause it's a smaller theater, you get to be right up close, and the cast, you were mentioning that some of them have been in multiple productions at Pioneer Theatre and what's fun about that is people who are regulars might recognize them from- - That's right.
Matt McGloin's been in "Murder on the Orient Express" and "Prayer for the French Republic," where he also played the piano a little bit, so he gave us a teaser of his skills.
Yeah.
Ricky Todd Adams has been here years ago but is quite notable.
He was in "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway.
- [Laura] Wow, okay.
What a treat.
- Yeah.
- What a treat.
And this is just the first of your season.
Tell us what else you have coming up.
- We've got a bunch of really exciting shows.
Second up is "Dear Evan Hansen," the Tony Award winner that made Ben Platt a star, and it's just such a wonderful story.
Then we have "Noises Off" for Christmas, a big, fat, slam-the-door comedy that everybody loves.
Then we have a world premiere musical, and we end the season with "Come From Away."
- All right, well, sounds like a great lineup.
Thank you so much for being here to give our viewers a sneak peek.
- Thank you.
