It's the 2010 2011 adapted sports wheelchair basketball championship.
Today, it's the West Georgia Wolverines at three in three, taking on the Atlanta Wolfpack, a perfect six zero heading into today's ballgame and looking to capture yet another state championship.
And good afternoon, everyone.
Dave Gardner, alongside a long time adapted sports analyst Leslie Sweat.
And Leslie, good to be working with you again.
And boy, are we going to be treated to a great game today.
It's a pleasure to be here.
And we are looking forward to a really fun game.
So let's get it going.
Hey, sounds good to me.
Let's talk a little bit about this West Georgia team.
The Wolverines, of course, at three and three overall, and they're led by Douglas Johnston, who was pretty much the go to guy on that team.
He absolutely is.
He's a real leader on that team and has been for years.
You know, he's grown up because these kids can play for so long.
He was very young when he joined us.
And look at him now.
Absolutely.
12.2 points a ballgame this year has done a remarkable job for the Wolverines.
Here is the starting lineup for West Georgia.
Again, Johnston, the guy we just got through talking about, their Timothy Peake, the senior playing his final state championship game, Eugene Layne, a sophomore, Lesley and Hutchins a junior, and Laura Rae a junior as well for West Georgia.
Fletcher Proctor is the other member of our team today.
And just a moment ago, he caught up with the coach for West Georgia.
Fletcher, joined by coach Rick McIntire of West Georgia.
Coach, what are your thoughts as we're standing here at the Arena Gwinnett Center getting ready for a state title game.
Really glad to be back today, James.
Really ready to play.
We're loose.
We're thinking about Coach Mack, though, thinking about you, dad.
Just ready to play a good ball game for him.
Let's go get him the day chance to get a second title in the history of West Georgia.
Are they?
Obviously, they seem ready to play and ready to get out there and get after it.
We'd like to.
We've got a couple of seniors.
Laura, Tampa, This will be their last wheelchair ball game of their careers.
Want to send them out on a bang?
Thank you very much, Coach.
Good luck today.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you.
Fletcher Again, Coach McIntyre, senior recovering from surgery and our thoughts certainly go out to him as well.
Let's talk about this Atlanta Wolfpack.
Leslie, a team six or no?
What can you say?
Looking for yet another state title?
Try to make it four in a row here today.
That's that's really impressive.
Four in a row.
That's that's hard to top.
Reece Johnson, of course, our superstar on this team.
Quite the leader going to be a lot of fun to watch him today.
And when you look at Johnson, they get almost 16 points a game this season for this Atlanta Wolfpack team has certainly been solid.
You got superstars, you have good supporting cast for both teams and it should be exciting here today.
Let's talk about that Wolfpack starting lineup.
And there you see the five Johnson, the senior Amy a sophomore to Reno Newton wearing Jersey number three today as a senior playing his final state championship game, Lacey taught a seventh grader.
Yes, they let him play that young.
We'll explain that later.
And Terry Chambers, the sophomore as well.
Fletcher again with the coach for the Atlanta Wolfpack.
Fletcher, let's check in with you, my boys.
Coach Jimmy Roberts, assistant coach of the Atlanta Wolfpack.
What are your thoughts as we're standing here at the Arena, Gwinnett Center and we're just trying to work all our players, the team work together, Take let me see us go out, the five that we have on our team.
Before that we have on our team go out on a winning streak and just play hard and enjoy ourselves.
Thank you, Coach.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you.
Fletcher again, Andrea Arnold, the head coach.
We'll talk more about her in just a moment.
But first, the tip off coming up from the Arena one that center.
It's West Georgia in Atlanta in the 2011 wheelchair basketball championship.
Stay with us.
Let's get started.
Let's get it started here.
Let's get attention.

Why is that even important to you?
Here's why.
A state certified plumber can not misrepresent themselves by telling you that they can do a job only to find out later that they were not qualified.
Now you're out of time and money and plumber 911 All our plumbers are certified by the state of Georgia.

Can we see the invisible go back further in time?
Reveal mysterious forces shaping the cosmos, hunting the edge of space.
Back here at the arena at Gwinnett Center, we are set for a tip off.
And this 2011 aspect, wheelchair basketball state championship game here.
They have gone to Leslie Sweat and with you, Fletcher proper courtside, along with the rest of the GPB media sports team here today as we welcome you back to the Arena, Gwinnett Center and West Georgia with the opening tip will console it the blue using the yellow numerals today Atlanta Wolf back in the home, white shirts.
And right off the bat, West Georgia takes the first lady of the game.
Leslie Ann Hutchinson is only averaging a point.
A game this year already knocks down the first two.
And she also pick Reece Johnson to keep him out of that play in the first shot.
Go with that.
She rebounded well.
Leslie, good to be working with you today.
As we've already discussed, our heroes, if you will, and Douglas Johnston for West Georgia and, of course, Reece Johnson for the Atlanta Wolfpack.
But a good supporting cast.
And we certainly don't want to single anyone out.
Those guys have been superb.
But you see Laura Ray right now dribbling the basketball.
She's been instrumental in the Wolverines success this year.
We're going to talk about a number of players that have contributed to both of these teams being here this afternoon inside here.
That one, take it away.
Johnson Behind the back right there will also explain some of the rules as we go in case we have some new viewers who have not been able to join us for the last eight years of wheelchair basketball right here on Jeopardy.
At long last shot there by Alexander Haney, off the Mark Johnston with the rebound pushes the floor again.
Two pushes and a dribble to avoid the travel.
And there is Johnston getting into the nitty gritty two for Johnston the Manchester High School student who also has a 3.0 GPA.
A lot of these student athletes, as we talk about, also get it done in the classroom as well as with absolutely those grades, just like all the other DHS I sports have to be there in order for them to remain eligible to play.
That's number 13.
Terry Chambers with the basketball there, lost the handle on it and there is Johnston for it.
Loose ball knocks it to a teammate That's Timothy Peak in ball awareness there and there he makes it look easy.
And how about this?
The West Georgia Wolverines are out to a60 run to start the ballgame over the undefeated Wolfpack.
What a start.
Westword You know, there's an awful lot of emotion running on that West Georgia sideline.
As you may have mentioned.
Notice that Coach Mack made a comment about his dad, who is also Coach Mack senior, recovering from prostate surgery, some cancer.
Unfortunately, they just found out that the cancer is not completely gone and he is going to have to go through some radiation.
So they're really, I think, plan to try to give him a lift as he gets to watch this.
Here you get a look at the last bucket there for Johnston, who of course, quickly got into this game.
Johnston averaging a little over 12 points a ballgame as we talked about.
Timothy Peake, of course, hit that last bucket.
And Peake is a grown up.
A lot of remember him.
It just seemed like as a as a little kid, it seemed like and now he's a he's grown out there.
Tell you what, He towered above everybody.
Absolutely.
And, you know, as you mentioned, we have younger players, younger than high school age playing on these teams.
So you will see some very young kids out there with what you expect to see.
The older it you know, you can watch them grow from very young into the young men and women that they've become.
Well, Leslie, this is the 15th year of the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs celebrating.
You're number 15, founded in 1996 by Beverly Vaughn and Tommy Storms that we've already spoken with here this afternoon.
I know they're excited about another championship year.
What a partnership it's been with the Georgia High School Association and also with GPB.
Absolutely.
It's so fabulous to be able to showcase our kids cat and YouTube and VHS.
So we're very happy to have Torino Newton knocking down the shot right there.
Usually wear his jersey number 21, but he's got number three on today and he gets at the Wolfpack on the board here 6 to 2.
Again, just a reminder for those who have not joined us, we play six, eight minute periods with a running clock.
That's correct.
The only time, of course, on free throws timeouts is the only time that clock will stop.
So even though it is six periods, it does move quickly, It does short by peak off the mark.
The foul, though.
Eugene Lane could walk one unable to get that one to go and down with it is Newton we talk a lot about the scoring and so forth and sometimes in these state championship games Leslie in these bigger venues points it kind of hard to come by.
But these are two teams this year.
They have put up a lot of points.
West Georgia averaging over 30 points a game this year.
And the Wolfpack, right?
40, Yes.
And there's a lot of kids on both teams that are fully capable of putting points on the board in their time.
That's the peak on the other end.
And we have a little bit of contact right there blocking foul is going to be called on Eugene Lane, who got a little bit too much of the cheer into Alexander Amy right there, who took a tumble.
Yes, the Chargers considered part of the body.
So contact on the chair would just be like reaching it and touching body.
For more information again about adapted sports, log on to their website.
WW dot adapted sports dot org very informative web site who has had a chance over the last week or so to check in on all of the different sports.
It's more than just basketball as you're well aware.
And it's also good to have some good partnerships on board.
Reese Johnson knocking down his first points of the ballgame, Johnson averaging 16 points a game.
So you had to wonder when he was going to grab those first two.
Yeah.
it's undeniable.
It's coming.
It's inevitable.
And there's the steal by Johnson right there, trying to work his way around Johnson on the lane.
Looks like we got a lane violation.
And how about that the a turnover right there and there you saw Johnson and Johnson working against each other one on one.
What a battle that was.
See right there.
Johnson, of course, deflects the pass there and then tries to work his way around.
But, Wolf, back off, throwing the two big man.
And I can't tell you how difficult it is to have the energy after pushing those wheelchairs round to still be able to take the shot.
Right.
And we were talking, you know, the other day, if you've never tried to shoot a basketball from a wheelchair, I encourage anyone to give that a shot because it is a lot tougher than it looks.
And you got to think that there's a lot of younger players on the floor.
Even some middle school age kids would have no problem getting that ball up there.
I would have a tough time.
I'll just be honest with that.
You know, if it's not a layup, I can't shoot it shot right here from touching off the mark at the live though.
Nice job there and on the follow in and out by Johnson and then of course the tough break and here comes Greece out in front Got it all alone right here Kind of slam on the bicycle to squander off the glass.
It goes back to work.
And a pretty impressive fall with the Wolverine effort.
Of course, these two teams have played twice this year with the Wolfpack winning both them.
But the first go round was just a four point ballgame, 4642.
Second go around was later in the season, have the Wolfpack winning 5436.
And incidentally, that 54 points was the most by any team this season.
It ended the adapted sports literally all the way back the other way right there.
Pretty good crowd on hand here today.
Of course, the accuser, high cheerleaders, also providing some excitement here.
We'll talk more about them later on in the telecast here today.
But we've got an excellent ball game here in this first quarter as we near the two minute mark, six for West Georgia by a deuce.
Now, one of the other things that's more difficult to do in a wheelchair is making it through the pass.
And that is, you know, obviously because they're second they can't drop like it's it's a lateral step sideways to get to a ball that maybe is less accurate.
It's much more difficult to hit that target.
Premature.
you got to pass that on.
Terry Chambers knocked away defensively.
All right.
Clock will hit the 135 after a period number one from the arena at that center celebrating ten years and the alliance with the Georgia High School Association back in 2001, everything got rock and roll.
And this doctor, Ralph Swearingen, a big part of the adaptive sports program programing.
He's making this partnership happen with the Georgia High School Association in conjunction in conjunction with Championship Weekend right here at CNN.
Absolutely.
He's to be commended for his for his vision and foresight in wanting to bring this to the forefront and showcase it a little bit.
And we've had a couple other students as well as Timothy Peake knocking down his second field goal.
That makes it an eight four advantage for the Wolverines.
And yet, Leslie, very exciting news this year.
Kentucky coming on board along with Georgia and Florida.
The organization just got Cronin and that's great to see, especially in a challenging economy like RIM.
I tell you that that really is very remarkable because the funding hits that have been taken by this organization are vast and deep.
And so to keep these programs not only surviving, but thriving and moving forward and spreading, it's pretty impressive for right with the basketball.
Let's talk about Laura for just a second.
Varsity cheerleader has won several beauty pageants.
She's done some modeling.
And a former Miss Meriwether County has done a remarkable job with this prestigious program.
It will also be featured in a May 2011 issue of ESPN Women's Magazine, which focuses on teenage female athletes.
So Laura's certainly made a name for herself playing wheelchair sports.
She is just fearless.
She doesn't she's not afraid to get in there and mix it up.
You'll see her going up against race or anybody else that's out there now, knocked away from Johnston by Reese Johnson and now Reese on the other end off and running the top dog with puts up a shot down the buzzer and that'll do it for period number one an excellent first period for West Georgia.
They lead it 8 to 4 over the undefeated Atlanta Wolfpack carry it to from the arena Gwinnett Center coming up Georgia's barrier islands.
The islands themselves reveal their stories of prehistoric Indians living off the land, explorers searching for gold and millionaires creating their own personal paradise.
This is the secret seashore Sunday at 630 on GPB.

Next time on Secrets of the Dead.
While America worked on the bomb, Japan created its own secret weapon, an advanced sub to blow up the Panama Canal.
Japanese super sub on Secrets of the Dead on November for the next generation of telescopes.
A new quest begins.
Can we see the invisible go back further in time?
Reveal mysterious forces shaping the cosmos, hunting the edge of space, the start of the second period here at Gwinnett.
And now to Fletcher.
Proctor is standing by with one of the co-founders of Adaptive Sports, Fletcher being joined by Tommy Storms, co-founder of the Triple PSP.
And it's been a an idea that it was started in the eighties.
It was actually founded in 1996, a 15 year anniversary this year.
Absolutely.
I can't believe it's been that long, but it's just been a fabulous ride.
Lots of kids touched thousands of kids who've come through the program.
We're just very excited to see it continue.
And we're approaching the ten year anniversary as well in the partnership with the GHC, right?
It was it was late in 2001 when Georgia High School Association and the Adaptive Sports programs joined Alliance.
And it's just been fabulous.
All high school kids who are members of a high school in GHC can participate in track and field.
And of course, this has been a combined event.
This is our eighth year for the basketball championship.
Well, we're having a great time.
It's a great game so far and look forward to the rest of it.
Absolutely.
Thank you so much.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you.
FLETCHER And yeah, Leslie, wonder what a job that Tommy and Marvin both done with this organization.
And it's been a collaborative effort.
A lot of other folks have jumped on board since then, have just made this a remarkable partnership.
Absolutely.
They're such a long way in such a short time.
15 years at a time.
But it's also a short time for the club.
This is not for you to look at the field goal story there in the first quarter, four of ten for West Georgia, just two of six for Atlanta.
That's where we're at right now.
Four on the scoreboard is will reflects as the three and three Wolverines are defeating the six and no Atlanta Wolfpack at this point in the third meeting of the of the year between these two and into the game is Vincent van fleet number five for west Georgia back on the other end of course you walk back basically with the same cast Kaitlyn McKinnon as one of those players we haven't talked a lot about, of course, as a freshman at Maynard Jackson High School there.
And number five here today for the Wolfpack.
just out of bounds and back to West Georgia.
It goes so far, Leslie, a good defensive effort here, really by both teams.
Despite them knocking down some shots, they're going to look at Jimmy Roberts, the assistant coach for the Wolfpack us.
Andrew Arnold is the head coach standing right beside Cliff Roberts.
And they're both off the bench and very vocal here.
Do you listen to.
Yeah that's my that was yelling wow that's I think really you know I think when they talk to the coaches that one of the things you're going to hear say is that, you know, we've had quite a few loose balls here so that ball can play only critical.
And sure, they're hoping for fewer turnovers right there on are in seem to get into this one right here better work that scoreboard a little bit here at 629 left to period number two the three play three periods per half.
So again at the end of this quarter, we will not be a halftime.
We're still have one account for retiring.
That's right.
That's right.
Well, we might be remiss if we didn't mention Tony Lawson.
Of course, you see the game officials early on, Porter, Alvin Jackson and Stephen Lewis working this wheelchair game today of course, only loss in the area.
Coordinator for the Atlanta Wolfpack is a one time head coach and really kind of got the ball rolling here against state titles in six.
Took a year off of those seven because West Georgia won theirs.
But the last three years the title has belonged to the Wolfpack are looking to make it four in a row five overall half today.
Yeah what a huge accomplished three four in a row at least some really impressive thing.
Hard to beat at least.
Johnson Basketball right now has been a big part of that bounces it puts it up and knocks it down.
He's strong still powerful bounce pass where you had so much speed going into that shot Making a layup with that kind of speed is very difficult.
So the athletes are taught to grab the wheels, slow down the chair, recover the ball, take the shot all within about a certain point.
Peak was out of bounds there if you're on the line.
So it will be Atlanta basketball.
That's 14 Abubakar Garba with the inbound right there.
A.R.
Sanders.
Boubacar is a thin man for a couple of years.
And I just like seeing that name you and I were talking of.
Boy, great names, good player.
He's was a good kid.
National Honor Society, Pariah, perhaps Fire and fury, as you see Johnson hitting the deck right there.
Drama against number 14 for the Wolfpack.
I Want to Be a Writer has a book coming out, very impressive, very senior at North Carolina High School.
Here's another look there.
That's a tumble.
You see Garba coming over and making the contact right there.
So in addition to being a rider, he's also a little physical, too.
You know, he's not afraid to mix it up.
Yeah, absolutely.
Nurtured over right there now a loose ball.
Johnson able to catch up in a lot of he loves the game is somewhat different in ways that you'll see with able bodied basketball It is the same in a lot of ways with wheelchair ball as far as the violations of the fouls and so forth.
Right.
What we saw there was a typical over of over in back row, same as it would be for everybody saw Coach Mack Junior on the sideline there and control today for the Wolverines with West Georgia out of Warm Springs Meriwether County first day Atlanta Wolfpack feeds from the Atlanta public school system has done a remarkable job considering this whole back program, even in these tough economic times.
That's true.
And they partner with us and they is.
The Alpharetta lions are not the at a wrong team.
The fact that the Atlanta line forced both these teams coming off of big semifinal wins the Wolfpack last year's final, and Atlanta breezing through the series beat Gwinnett 28 to 6, denying the heat of a return trip to their basically their hometown arena.
West Georgia defeated the Silver States 3423.
The game technically teams over the U.S. but the team needs to wheelchair basketball and that is when the team is inbounding in their own offensive court.
No, no teammate can be in the lane while the ball's going against it.
That has to be that rules in place because as Mary, there's no jumping.
So it's an unfair advantage to be able to stick somebody in the lane on that choice and find that blocking foul going to be called.
I believe that one's going to be on guard.
Really get out of the corner by his third and imminently protests now that's Garbus third personal so what's going on here today boy he is a he's got a chip on his shoulder the rest of the days and enjoying it.
Let's go downstairs Fletcher Proctor with more on this one.
Fletcher what's going on with Laura Ray You guys are talking about her a little while ago is going to be featured in ESPN Rise magazine.
If you've never heard of it.
espnW has gotten into the trend of reporting all about high schools and prep players.
And Laura Ray, who's got the ball right now, is one of the players featured in the upcoming May 2011 issue of IT credits of her and credit to the West Georgia program and the triple aspect.
Absolutely.
As we mentioned, the former Miss Merriweather chatting with today's basketball game.
That's the one thing I think that just puts her game.
Gidget, not only is it a coed effort, but a lot of different backgrounds.
I mean, if you look down the rosters, first of all, it's almost like a who's who academically.
When you look at some of what these kids have done in the classroom.
But the extracurricular activities that these kids are involved in is truly amazing.
And if anything, it's inspiring might even be the right word.
It is.
And as we see in student athletes across the board, you tend to have athletes who are involved in multiple out of school clubs and whatnot.
And that's the same with a disabled student.
When they are able to get involved in something like this adaptive sports program, it starts to open other doors and you see them involved in other areas as well.
You look at Torino, Newton, shoot the first free throws of the afternoon, a short on that person right there in Newton Honor Roll Student council voted Mr. 12th grade at Washington High School.
And here he is at the free throw line.
There's just another example of what we're talking about a lot for the Wolverines came up empty, though, on that trip.
So the score remains the same eight six here.
As we go on to the two minute mark in the second period points, Georgia, still with a two point lead, have led from the onset for those free throws from a wheelchair.
Don't feel real free because that's a long way to throw a ball and receive it shot right here.
VanVleet nearly had it knocked away there and Johnson steps in front of it.
Reece Johnson had 30 points in a game earlier this season several times with double digit assist.
This is currently attending Atlanta Tech College wants to be a music producer, produces a little bit of music here in his spare time when he's not carving up opposing defense and get a look at Johnson number 23.
We had Laura there, maybe trying to get a little back pick out, listen to the clock out, back on the other end right here.
Alexander only puts up the shot, hits his first two of the afternoon.
Alexander averages over 12 points a game in his own right right behind Johnson.
We've got a tie ballgame here at eight apiece.
Here's another look at it.
See Aimee right there with the position shot, that one with a little bit of distance behind it.
Now with Georgia on the other end, here is Laura Rae trying to feed Johnson, but knocked away, behind the back little razzle dazzle off the glass.
It wouldn't go, though.
And the follow also misses and that was Georgia back the other way.
So Reese trying to put on a show here for that.
But I'm sure the coaches are saying, hey, you got to make sure you're going to make the shot if you're going to try that stuff.
Absolutely.
Field goal.
And that'll do it for the end of the third replay.
Two one more before the break.
Coming up at a tie ballgame here at the Arena, Gwinnett Center, period three.
Coming up on the other side of the break, when Joe Bonamassa took the stage at London's Royal Albert Hall, he fulfilled a lifelong dream during this sold out performance, Joe had the honor of playing with the legendary Eric Clapton in an unforgettable evening of guitar showmanship.
Now you have a front row seat for Joe Bonamassa.

A new quest begins.
Can we see the invisible?
Go back further in time.
Reveal mysterious forces shaping the cosmos, hunting the edge of space.
Back here at the Arena, Gwinnett Center, eight eight West Des Moines and Atlanta.
Wolfpack knotted up have garnered Leslie Sweat been courtside, along with Fletcher Proctor of the rest of the Gp-B sports team.
It's been an excellent ballgame.
West Georgia Wesley held scoreless, though, in that second period as the Wolfpack began to find their way back in it.
And now it's a ballgame.
It sure is.
And I feel that way.
Let's go to West Georgia, will inbound it right here from midcourt to start this third period before we hit the half against six, eight minute periods with a running clock and wheelchair basketball.
Superior number three right here, West Georgia opens the quarter with the basketball.
It is Douglas Johnson trying to get rid of it.
I tell you what, Reece Johnson with some quick answer today is for several turnovers that he has.
And I know there's been several times when passes have been made and not realizing how close this was, That's the second time I've seen him steal it, getting to where it was even there.
Gary Johnson Defensively, Greece was double team there, had to get rid of it.
I also want to mention to the junior varsity program had their state championship last weekend, I believe, and it was the Warner Robins Houston County Sharks, the home team over the Clayton Eagles 2818 capturing the junior varsity title, as you see, a little bit of a help there.
And congratulations to the Sharks.
That was a big accomplishment.
Leslie and Hutch it right there.
We got tied up there.
They have to come out violation.
All right.
Take a look at now back the other way it goes turnover.
I was on my cholesterol time and you see what they've done here.
They've basically taken Laura Ray and put her up against Chris Johnson.
A very daunting task right there defensively.
But they've always done pretty well here today.
And she is certainly not afraid to mix it up, as you mentioned earlier.
No, she is not.
That's for sure.
The back of the iron that goes up, that last play.
And Doug Johnson was so proud of his character.
Anyway, Slater and Gordon Alexander Andy with two and that's the Wolfpack first lead of the afternoon they have gone on a six home run here since last quarter and take a two point advantage.
Look, you're right on the other end with the basketball trying to reverse direction here and that and that were nearly taken away by Johnson earlier Roll out of bounds last touch by West Georgia Laura Ray still smiling swatted away walk back of course last year's state champions defeating the Gwinnett Heat right here in this building, 41 to 14, capping a perfect season.
So you got to go back a couple of years for the Wolfpack.
Last year was undefeated last year.
Perfect.
So far this year, it's just been a remarkable run for coach Andrea Arnold This Wolfpack team for sure.
Yeah, that's great.
This Atlanta team is so impressive.
They put on a little clinic just about every time I was in Georgia.
I was forced out before right here with 549 to play and period number three called by West Georgia.
The Wolverines want to talk things over here is the Wolfpack begin to pick things up here a little bit.
I wanted to mention, Dave, for those that are watching that maybe a game officials in their own right, these officials that we see out here right now are actually GHC officials as well as for our association and we are always in need of officials who we train to come out and join the ranks as a wheelchair official.
Also other sports as well, not just basketball, but football, wheelchair football.
Coming up is the next sport here a little bit later on in the towards the fall.
And I tell you what, look at it right here.
It's remarkable.
You know, you think basketball is challenging.
Try playing wheelchair football to learn more again you can visit WW dot adaptive sports dot org what a partnership and you see some of the familiar faces that we're seeing here today throwing the football also shooting the basketball here today.
Yeah wheelchair football is fun, fun, fun.
I can't begin to tell you what a kick we get out of this particular game.
It's very different from our other court sports.
But I think the thing really impressive to watch refs and coaches.
In fact, this past week.
Right.
Almost like an arena version, you know, arena football type version.
Well, after the timeout right here again, ten eight, Atlanta leads it by two West Georgia call the timeout and they tied it right back up And there's Leslie and Hutchison with another field goal.
As we mentioned, only average a point or two coming in already has four points here today, though.
Hutchinson, of course, lettered in football, basketball and handball, member of the Georgia Eagles all star team.
So even though she may not be the, you know, the biggest player on the floor, tell you what that could shoot.
That's a lot of hard in Callaway High 3.67 GPA getting it done in the classroom as well.
That's really the most important thing, isn't it?
Just it's very impressive that these student athletes are.
I still fall for rigor in the rear of the courses as it has increased so much, they still get into those classrooms and make those grades wolfpack with the inbound right here.
As we go into the five minute mark here before the end of the first half, 1010 ball, the field goals westwards and now five of 20 Atlanta heating up though five of 13 for got a whistle foul right here a little bit too much contact a lot of bodies coming together there Pete and raises a bunch of shots the they're really in that contact coming in without the controls in what was what 20 teams problem was on that one was lack of control no attempt to control the chair and fouls were there but the cares about Joy Moray slipped out of there unnoticed all alone.
Takes her time.
Unable to hit the shot though, but has enough time to get her own rebound, Threw up a foul shot and gets that one to go for.
Ray averaging six points a game this year, has her first two of the day.
I think she said she was thinking about how she was going to answer her coach if she didn't get that rebound and make that shot.
Well, you know, she almost had too much time to think about it.
And sometimes those are the tough shots to make unguarded, uncontested for who get rotation right there from Joshua shot.
This wouldn't go down quarter she was gorgeous in high school with a 3.0 GPA number 12.
If you look at Johnson back the other way it goes West Georgia reclaims the lead at 1210 with 320 left in the half contact, but not enough to draw the whistle between Johnson and Johnson.
Nice hand there by with Jacob rather Newton we got another foul on the fourth with a30 we needed first defender you know how well do these student athletes know each other less this question I have because they played against each other three times.
It seems to be a pretty tight fraternity, even though geographically, you know, they don't live that close to each other, but they see each other enough through adapted sports programs.
It seem like we've seen a lot of camaraderie out there today, a lot of jawing and stuff, but a lot of kind of smiling, you know?
Yeah, they're at the table.
Yes, they know each other very, very well.
You know, they can see each other a great deal in competition.
And there's also different ways that they know each other through, believe it or not, through medical issues, because they tend to get a lot of the same physician.
Right.
The same procedures at point camps, things like that.
So they do see quite a bit of each other off the glass turf they think has hit his average already here in his first half with six points in the last time West.
Georgia now goes up for 14, a ten, and the Wolfpack will fall a timeout with 211 left in the half.
So how about that?
Atlanta goes on a60 run takes their first lead of the game and now it's West Georgia who goes on a60 run here.
Yeah.
This West Georgia team is there to win.
They're playing emotionally.
They're there.
They're for sure here, Absolutely.
They have showed up to play ball here today, that's for sure.
We talk about adapted sports being so much more than basketball.
Football, a little bit of everything, handball.
We've talked about all the different athletes, student athletes that have lettered in all these different sports.
And again, for more information, you can log onto the our website Adaptive Sports dot org.
15 years for this organization.
Just truly remarkable There you look at some track and field basketball again handball there as we talked about for some football as well.
So just a little bit of everything going on and a lot of student athletes have become involved with this to the point that Georgia has been the trend setter and has now attracted Florida and Kentucky coming on board.
This thing is going to go national.
It is.
It is you know, they are the leaders nationally.
They get a lot of attention from everything from the legislative end of things where states are having to figure out how to best serve students with disabilities and ASPs at the forefront and a leader in that regard as well.
Well, and Georgia still made history along with adapted sports, Georgia High School Association and GPB again, 2003, the first 2003 24 season, the first televised wheelchair basketball game was still the first ever made history in West Georgia Wolverines, a62 run in the last 422, as we've talked about, have taken a little bit of control here late in this first half that they have.
And for the full information of maybe some new viewers who are wondering and some of these guys that they fall out of a chair, get knocked out, you see them stand up and get back in, you might be wondering about the nature of their disability in order to be eligible to play under adaptive sports.
All that and one.
Wow.
Alexander Amy will have a free throw to go along with that one.
Sure.
Well, but in order to be eligible to play these students and to have a fourth and a disability, that's orthopedic in nature.
And sometimes it's real obvious, but sometimes it's it's much less so.
You know, you've got everything from an amputee to spinal bifida, which is pretty obvious and easy to see.
But then you've got kids who might have a very mild case of cerebral palsy.
They might have a a hip dysplasia or shoulder issue or something like that that would keep them from you know, their doctors are telling them, no, don't play.
They don't play the able bodied version of the sport.
But because there's no wear and tear on the lower body care, they can they can play this Alexander Amy completes the three point play has seven points here in this first half and it's a one point ballgame with time winding down here in the period and a foul going to be called right there on new right and so some of the players us had a situation last year that may have gone some years off guard.
A player had fouled out more recently, got up out of the chair in a chair and walked it off the corner and, you know, and for folks that haven't been exposed to the adaptive sports of the wheelchair basketball championship, that might have got some folks off guard.
Yeah, absolutely.
The wheelchair is a piece of a piece of sport, equipment, medicine for many of these young people are able to walk with or without assistive devices.
So it might be a little surprising to folks to see that I can understand and look up to look at the upper body strength here, you know, or raise this you know, this, the sweet young, you know, free throw sitting down.
Yeah.
Hit the first one second.
It was on target basketball.
And it was just this amount of upper body strength, especially for for a teenage girl.
Yeah, absolutely.
It really is.
And to be that accurate to to hit that first one, you don't see a lot of free throws necessarily in the wheelchair game like you do.
Perhaps an able bodied basketball.
And really it's you know, they call it a free throw because it's just amazing shot And it is when you're standing right and you have no pressure.
But you know, that's a lot more chance.
Absolutely.
A lot of free throw shooting is typically done with the legs.
So, you know, having to use the entire upper body to make it a little bit more challenging.
We have players in this league who, you know, are accurate and able to shoot from behind the three point line.
So that's a tremendous amount of skill.
Absolutely.
Time winding down here in this third period.
Yes.
Georgia with a two point advantage with the basketball and a chance perhaps for the final shot here.
Johnston, looking at the clock feeds, pick off his fingertips.
It will roll away and that'll do it.
We've reached the end of the first half here inside the arena, Gwinnett Center, and it's the West Georgia Wolverines from Warm Springs, Georgia, with a two point lead over the Atlanta Wolfpack 15 to 13.
Wow.
What a first half of basketball.
Again, Dave Gardner, Leslie Sweat with you, Fletcher Proctor, standing courtside with us as well.
Very competitive first half.
Absolutely.
And it's great to see like just like in the able bodied, sometimes we have lopsided games.
But I said one of them.
But let's go downstairs.
Fletcher standing by here with Coach McIntyre.
You guys got off to a good start, good finish to end in the in the half.
Just looking for a little bit better defense right now and it make some shots out of the basket.
Why focus on rebounds a little more and I think we can wrap this thing I really do I want this game I know my team does.
We're loose playing well, playing our arch rivals.
I hate to say that, but we play each other all the time.
So we're going to give them a good game just like they give us.
Here we go.
All right.
Go to the locker room.
Good luck in the second half.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you, Fletcher, Atlanta, undefeated, Atlanta trailing by two at the break.
Stay with us.

Sunday at 630 on GPB.
We are at halftime for the game here today.
And with me our BEV on the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs co-founder and of course, Georgia High School Association, the big boss, Dr. Al Swearingen.
But first, before we get to Dr. Swearingen, I want to bring in Bev.
I want to say this to you.
You and Tommy stores are two angels.
You have created something very, very special.
Tell us about the mission statement of what the Triple H aspires to do.
Well, thank you very much.
We have a lot of angels, obviously, to be here today.
And we thank you, GPB, and say for the opportunity.
We're really just about getting kids with physical disabilities off the sideline and into the game, and we've been very fortunate to be headquartered here in Atlanta and have a partnership with the Georgia High School Athletic Association, working with local school districts to include these programs into their athletic offerings.
And it's just it's just a great event to highlight the talent of the students here today.
And and we're very, very happy about it.
You know, I'm I talked to Doc a little bit after you, but I want to ask you this about your with the Georgia High School Association.
Talk a little bit about that.
You just touched on it a little bit, but what does that mean as you all move forward?
This is a very unique relationship.
It's it's at a national level.
It's one of a kind.
I can remember when Tommy and I met with Dr. Swearingen, I guess it's been about ten years now.
We've been in a partnership.
And I'll never forget Ralph saying, Well, we're pioneers, let's pioneer.
So GHC has been very welcoming, very supportive, and we could not be more pleased with the relationship we have with them.
They've been very proactive and recognize the need for the programs that all kids deserve an opportunity to, have a chance to compete in athletics.
We've been fortunate to bring forth our part of the competition rules and policies administration coaches, education program, and then they help open the doors.
So it's it's been you know, Georgia's really being looked at on a national level by other states.
We've entered into a relationship with a couple other state high school associations kind of growing out of this partnership.
So it's just I think we're just at the you know, even though we've been in it 10 to 15 years, really at the beginning.
So it takes time.
Yeah.
You know, and speaking of the pioneer you talked about, we'll move over to Doc Swearingen.
You know, what what Bev talked about is what you've done is caught fire in Florida and Kentucky.
That's right.
And there are some other states that are that are looking at it also.
You know, it's kind of a difficult thing.
People want to do it because it's right.
But then they have restrictions on on their facilities and on their people and on their money.
And so a lot of times, unfortunately, high school associations don't get involved until they're made to by the courts or somebody like that.
We just really felt early on the early 2000 that that what we were doing for our able bodied athletes we needed to be doing with our disabled athletes.
And we were so fortunate because we were able to have right here in our state people who were really good at organizing and training and doing it right.
And so it has been a great relationship.
You know, you talk about inclusion and I want to touch on that.
You're big on in terms of, like you said, everybody, it's to celebrate what is what's going on in that sport.
I went over to watch Vivid, rallied me to come over and watch team Holyfield, which was the special All-Star Basket wheelchair basketball team.
And they sat around and talked to me after practice.
And one of the kids told about how he had he had been injured in a car accident, become disabled.
He, by his own words, was a pain to everybody He dealt with at school, at home and everything else.
And somebody talked him into going to play basketball.
And he said it just turned his whole life around.
And I'm saying, wow, that's what we tell our able bodied kids.
This is what happens when you get involved.
So we just really think it's great.
And there's a whole lot more with ash besides wheelchair basketball.
And I understand that we got spring football coming up.
Bev And tell a little bit about that.
We got some Peyton Manning is going to we're going to develop our.
We absolutely do.
You are absolutely right.
We are right after wheelchair basketball conclusion of this championship.
We enter into our wheelchair football season and the adaptation of that sport is just very similar to our wheelchair basketball.
The kids playing chairs, students and power chairs and male chairs compete together.
They play on the basketball court.
It's two and touch.
And I think our state tournament this year, it will be up in Athens and probably last weekend in April.
So teams will go into a regular season and then they'll vie for the state championship and wheelchair football in late April.
And your website quickly adapted Sports dot so visit we can use some help with appreciate the support Bev again you are an angel duck you are a pioneer and you're a visionary.
We say thank you.
Now let's go down to courtside and Dave Gardner.
It's all yours.
All right.
Thank you, Gail.
Let's take a look at some of the first half highlights.
And there were plenty on both sides.
Again, the Atlanta Wolfpack getting a shot right there from Terreno, Newnan.
It was actually West Georgia who led this ball game most often in the first half, led by six points from Timothy Peake and, of course, Alexander.
Amy on the other end, teaming up with Reece Johnson, those two with 11 points after the break right here.
You see, of course, Amy, right here with two of his first half, seven averaging over 12 points a game this season.
And Amy had an excellent first half.
And of course, West Georgia back on the other end.
Leslie and touching with four first half points as well, stood out for the Wolverines for a Warm Springs, Georgia.
And there you're going to look at Laura Rae missing on her first attempt but was able to get the foot back and also had a key free throw there.
And the half as well for the Wolverines.
Again, from West Georgia, of course, the Wolfpack answering right back.
It's just pretty much what kind of half it was back and forth.
It certainly was.
And I can't wait for the second half.
Absolutely.
Take a look at some of the first half numbers.
Again, field goal, seven of 26 for West Georgia, six of 18 for Atlanta.
Both teams want to improve on that.
You see the turnovers is basically even right now.
Right now, West Georgia getting it done on the boards, Atlanta getting it done with the steals.
And we talk about the leaders.
Their peak, of course, was six and Amy was seven in the first half.
I'll step aside, be right back.
But the start of the second half from the Arena Gwinnett Center, it's the 2007 wheelchair basketball championship.

yes.
We did have to get back to teamwork, play wolfpack basketball, work as a team, dominate and do what?
We came here to do this to win our third, fourth straight, straight state title.
Good luck in the second half, coach.
Back to you guys.
All right.
Thank you.
FLETCHER And speaking of Fletcher, Foster's been a very busy man over the last few days doing some online coverage here for GHC TV and course doing a little bit of play by play and color there as well for some of the semifinal matchups.
Of course, looking forward to seeing him and make it as well starting the second half.
Of course, Atlanta with the basketball on the white shirts now working the other end of the floor with West Georgia in the blue and yellow here this afternoon.
And leading by two in the Wolverines are the team of three and three, Atlanta wolfpack, six and But in that first half, it almost seemed like it was the other way around at times.
WEST Georgia, of course, three times beaten this year.
But boy, they look good.
Yeah, they look like they don't want to force losses what they look like, isn't it.
They.
And they're playing with a lot of heart right now.
They're playing for Coach Mack, his home recuperating.
Best wishes to him.
School.
I was going to say what Alexander be picking up where he left off of the first half.
He finished the half with seven points, opens up the fourth period with the first two and he's already got nine here today.
He's averaging 12.
So certainly not a surprise by any means.
But you know, the Wolfpack would like to get Reece Johnson a little bit more involved as well.
Meanwhile, Douglas Johnston, who we focused on in the pre game on topic today, he's quickly got to add two points in the first half.
He's averaging a dozen targets on the board there and that might be the start of good things to come for the Wolverines.
Yeah, he might not have put up a lot of points but he's been working hard out there and running a lot of interference on Reece Johnson and others, creating turnovers and things of that nature.
Here is Alexander.

Mr. 12th grade, as you mentioned, at Washington High School.
On the floor, you know, you looked at, as we mentioned, the first half, Leslie, and it's almost like a who's who.
We've got Laura Wright, who we've talked about Carter, Leslie and Hutchings.
We talked about his letter to three different sports as a member of the Clayton Eagles Georgia Eagles excuse me, All-Star team there, of course, Timothy Peake.
We've talked a lot about here.
Today is a two time state championship winner, also a wheelchair, a wheelchair tennis player, past member of the Georgia Eagles All-Star team as well.
A lot of folks out here representing in a lot of different ways are very active in their civic clubs, their churches or what have you.
And it's really fun as these as these young players develop.
I was noticing a minute ago after Eugene had lost to the ball down here on the other end of the floor, that Laura Wright was talking to him, giving us instructions and encouragement.
And what another coach on the floor.
And of course, Eugene Lane, you know, he likes to fish.
I mean, he's a fisherman and these guys do all kinds of things, that's for sure.
So I coach Andrea Arnold there on the sideline, head coach, fifth year with the Wolfpack.
Jimmy Roberts is the assistant coach, has handled some of the interviews here today.
And while coach Richard McIntyre, Rick is the junior, he is the head man here today right now.
Right.
17 all.
How is the sport between the two?
And again, we are in the fourth quarter, but remember, we play six, eight minute periods.
So again, this is not the fourth and final quarter.
This is just the fourth quarter periods.
Five and six get to remain here.
We're very early in the second half with no hurry.
Take away right there.
you see Alexander Andy on the other in a junior South Atlanta high school, had a little bit of contact.
Right.
So it looks like we're going to have a whistle, not one to get go against Timothy Pugliese, maybe get the a couple times it hurt in the third.
But he's tough.
That is it's you know, they they go at it kind of hard out here.
There's not much not much difference between having everybody in that regard.
There's an awful lot of heart, an awful lot of desire.
And one off the glass right there wouldn't go for Amy.
Dishes off.
great Look right there of Newton not able to finish.
You know, we talk a lot about the avenues and obviously this is a big stage.
But, you know, both these teams are somewhat used to it.
We've seen a lot of familiar faces, a lot of familiar names here today, particularly from this walk back team that's played in the last four finals.
So you got to wonder if they're still starstruck at any point.
you know, I you know, I remember the very first year we played in this arena and the looks on the on the athletes faces as they enter this is sort of like comical, although terrified was was clearly what was going on right.
You know, I think they've become accustomed to it now.
Certainly two veteran teams that have been here a number of times, like Atlanta and West Georgia, the Wolverines on the attack right here is touching the open look right here, puts up a tough shot back of the iron.
Wooden quite goes a good shot Go right on line Their battle for the loose ball hutch and came out of there with it.
And how about that off the glass goes Douglas from the Grizzlies field goal.
Now we're tied at 19 apiece.
Here we go under 3 minutes in this fourth period at the half.
But some of the promos that you saw, we're talking about some of the other sports.
And one of the things that folks should know is that ask as an organization trains all of the coaches and efficient on these disability sports.
There's a lot to know, not just to hear the stories and the different types of disabilities, how that impacts an athlete.
But you as a coach know to keep your athletes safe.

And that was Terry Chambers with his first bucket of the afternoon the ninth grader from Carver High School.
And Chambers is in the book here today.
And that puts the Wolfpack up now 2319.
So a four point lead.
And this has truly been a game that has gone back and forth from the beginning.
It has.
What an exciting game to watch.
I hope all of our viewers have enjoyed this for last year.
We talked about it, you know, 41 to 14.
Not that it wasn't a good game, but it was all wolfpack, but certainly not the case here today.
You have two teams that are pretty well matched.
It's been a good time.
Talked about that Atlanta is their rival.
Make no bones about it.
They know that.
And Atlanta would tell you and Coach Arnold would say that the Wolverines are probably their greatest challenge or their greatest threat.
It keeping them from a fourth straight title.
They may have played them well this year.
In fact, one of those games, as you mentioned, coming down to the final minute, 4642 is the score of that game.
The Wolfpack pulled it out.
So certainly a Wolverine team that can play with the Wolfpack.
But right now, though, Atlanta trying to pour it on here as they go up six three.
I think these turnovers are hurting them.
You know open look at an easy pass that ends up being a turnover of a big it's hard to overcome mistakes like that.
All right.
Coach Arnold again, Siac, women's tennis champion, product of Clark Atlanta University, was also a good basketball player in her own right.
As time watched out here in this fourth period, that is number two in Eugene when she shot goes off the mark there.
And now it's Aimee back and running the other way with time winding down, 5 seconds, trying to beat the buzzer right here, puts up the shot.
It won't go knocked away and that'll do it.
So through four periods, it's the Wolfpack.
Erik Lamela, 2519 over West Georgia, period five coming up from the Arena Gwynedd Center.

First game of the next one coming up is the girls class championship between Wesleyan and Pace Academy.
Should be a very good contest right there.
Sure.
We're following that single-A boys.
And then to Double-A and triple-A.
We'll go live.
Stay with us right here on the National Day Championship basketball right here live on GPB.
Now, what you saw right there with the player down and play continuing.
If the referees deem that the player is not any danger, not injured by the fall, they will allow the play to finish out of Georgia with two more cuts to get down to four and the wolfpack with the numbers here, two on one.
That's Chambers.
I talked to boy but off the glass wouldn't go all it with the rebound taken by Johnson two three opportunities still alive Johnson unselfishly kicks it out to Amy who has had the hot hand here today.
And if you're Johnson they want to take it to the man with nine points here today.
Absolutely.
HARRIS Whether he's scoring or not, it makes the attitude he draws ability to dish the ball off when it is right.
Free throws up.
Coming right here for Amy, who has a chance to break into double figures this afternoon, Alexander again will be an architect as part of the architectural club at South Atlanta High School.
There you see coach Andrea Arnold.
Come on, Come on now.
Go one free throw.
If you look at Amy's numbers today, nine points and eight rebounds.
Sophomore second one basket away, 2521 Steal the score under 6 minutes here in this fifth period, five of six periods being played here today at the arena when it's center trying to get it across again, the ten second foul is still very much a part of wheelchair basketball, just like it is able body ball.
But we've got a foul that we're dreaming is going to have to close.
Coach Arnold, five years as head coach has done a remarkable job taking over for any loss in the area.
Coordinator has kept this Wolfpack team right here in the title game like year after year from last year.
They've done a fine job over there.
You only coach that team for years and turned over the reins to take a more administrative role and they brought in two great coaches and in Jimmy, Jimmy Roberts, I put him up this time and Andrea Arnold, there's Amy back on the other end right here, trying to knock it down.
Johnson is there though, for the follow unable to go.
Quite touching the last night Hornets will stay with the wolfpack It defensively this year West Georgia's allowed opponents under 30 points a game while scoring about 3132 which is attributed to that three and three mark.
But a lot of that of course came in that 54 point effort by Atlanta.
The second go around, as you see Terry Chambers knocking down one, this was the last.
So the number is a little skewed.
You take that ball game away in there, they're allowing a lot less As we take a look at the a replay there on that one.
Chambers, the ninth grade from Carver High School with his second bucket of the day.
Raleigh on the other end right here try to feed it ahead as Vincent VanVleet had a momentarily loose ball right here, tipped here as Peters made it look pretty easy here today.
I tell you what, 78 with six points in all three of his buckets are on each of the breakaways.
Here we get a Laura Ray looking right into the camera and smiling, looking very comfortable with the face time.
Patrick Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
I'm surprised we didn't see the way Ryan Padgett waves.
Got a time on the floor right here with 404 left, one of the rare times the clock will stop at this one timeouts and of course, free throws.
And it's 27 to 21.
So, Leslie, you can kind of feel the Wolfpack starting to put it together here a little bit.
They outscored the Wolverines, as we mentioned before, that fourth period.
And here this fifth period, again, basically Wolverines unable to make up much ground.
Yeah, it's going to be tough coming back.
You know, you see six points and you think, gosh, that's you know, that's not that much.
It's easy to overcome.
Some of the harder to get those points in wheelchair basketball versus everybody.
And with the with the free throws being such a more challenging shot once you go into the third point, you get somebody to foul out somewhere.
We might we might have a little tighter game here.
But I know the Wolverines were kind of trying to get out of that.
We were talking about Richard MacIntyre Senior's in his 10th season.
Basically.
He's been with West Georgia since the start of the program.
And a MacIntyre Senior, of course, chair, the Georgia State Spelling Bee Committee for 25 plus years, also appointed by Governor Perdue to the Georgia Commission for Service and Volunteerism.
So it's been very much a part of adapted sports, is not here today.
And the thoughts and prayers are certainly with him as the coverage retired teacher, he's a veteran.
He's been very, very active civically as community, a tremendous, tremendous gentleman.
We wish him the be trying to be here along that baseline.
But to pass to talk.
So it goes out of bounds to West Georgia and the Wolverines, you know, they'd love to at least up with a field goal or two here before the end of the period so that they're within striking distance in that sixth and final period here in this game.
You don't want to enter that out of down by double figures?
No, definitely not.
I down to six right here, though.
You could look at him.
He's had a good game here today.
Nine points able now a knocked away turnover drop Johnson trying to turn it into points right here puts it up and hits Chris Johnson third bucket of the day's got six points it's time for the Wolverines to pick up pick up the pace here just a little bit and start up front.
A lot of times but you don't want to let that get too great.
Last year, of course, West Georgia losing to Gwinnett in the semifinals by just 322 to 90 with score that game.
So this is a West Georgia team that almost made it to this point last year.
Of course, we would go on to fall to this Atlanta Wolfpack team in the title game.
Wolverines, though, able to make it back at it, was shot there by Johnson and he's got eight points here.
So Johnson warming up has hit six of his eight here in the second half.
And they're going to need more of that down the stretch.
Definitely.
That's turnovers and more plays like that.
No contact there from Hutchinson no whistle.
Johnson dribbling over inside finds open player what a dish right here to be the plus one second time today that Alexander has made a bucket and been fat in the process went to the line with a chance for three his second 54.
What a big play had a crucial to create once that is a huge bucket right there Abby with 11 points the first from either team to reach double figures here today and a chance for a three point play to put Atlanta up perhaps by nine.
He misses the free throw, but it's still an eight point advantage for the Wolfpack with under 2 minutes left here in this fifth period, Timothy Peake dishes off to Lower Ray to get the shot fouling out there.
Another opportunity ray makes this one.
Stay with it.
In the last quarter under 30 seconds left here in this fifth period shot by VanVleet rattles in and out of there he's followed from right won't go and now Johnson staring at it open hoop on the other end Johnson and pursuit trying to catch up and Johnson with a hand in his face is able to make the bucket and that's a big bucket for the wolfpack right before the end of the period here as they go back up eight and that'll do so through five periods of play.
As the undefeated Wolfpack trying to win their fourth title, 33 to 25, the sixth and final period.
Coming up next here, when Joe Bonamassa took the stage at London's Royal Albert Hall, he fulfilled a lifelong dream.
Joe had the honor of playing with the legendary Eric Clapton Joe Bonamassa live from the Royal Albert Hall Monday at 830 on GPB broadcast of this program is made possible in part by the following In every game there is a winning team.
But with the Georgia Lottery, no matter what game you play, the winners are the children of Georgia.
In fact, since 1993, more than 2 million winners have benefited from the lottery funded pre-K and HOPE scholarship programs.
This is Margaret de Francisco from the Georgia Lottery Corporation.
Thanks.
Million Georgia.
Because when you play, our students win.
Billboard's top world music artist Celtic Thunder are back with their exciting new show, Celtic Thunder Heritage Home on from the Sea.
Margaret brings in breakfast.
She believes whiskey and gyros bring the magic of Ireland and Scotland into your home with Heritage you sing out loud on the telephone Sunday at eight on GPB.

While America worked on the bomb, Japan created its own secret weapon, an advanced sub to blow up the Panama Canal and attack U.S. cities.
Japanese super sub on secrets of the Dead a Nova.
For the next generation of telescopes, a new quest begins.
Can we see the invisible go further in time?
Reveal mysterious forces shaping the cosmos, hunting the edge of space.
Yesterday was back here at the arena at Gwinnett Center for the sixth and final period in the 2000 10,011 adapted Sports Wheelchair basketball championship.
Dave Garner, Leslie Sweat, I'm with you.
Fletcher Parker, courtside with us today along with the rest of the GPB sports team.
It was called the Atlanta Wolfpack unbeaten.
Try to make it seven or no and trying to duplicate what they did in 2010, winning the title while remaining perfect on the season.
They have a chance to do it here today and they open up this final period up by eight, perhaps well on their way to a fourth straight state title, a fifth overall, and I certainly want to welcome you are viewing audience here this afternoon with us, of course, a full weekend of high school basketball right here on GPB, 12 live hours today.
single-A girls coming up at 11 a.m. Join us for that one to talk to or control and also create space at the top of the hand rooms.
There's a gap between my hand and my opponent's hand as well beside each other, which keeps the heat's fingers from being smashed.
Things of that nature.
It's only a sport.
CHAIR Well, you see, it came by real like that, not on an everyday chair, because it makes the wheelbase so wide.
It doesn't fit through a standard golf, right?
So it doesn't work for an everyday chair, but it works great for a sports car.
As you mentioned, the chair is is a piece of equipment.
I mean, it's basically a part of the body more or less.
And this particular game is considered as such by the referees from their point of view.
Johnson on the other end right here gives it out and separates it knocked away by Johnson Johnson Today, the two stars we focused on the top here today, Johnson averaging 12 has eight threes Johnson averaging 16 he has half of that here today but he had some of his other teammates have stepped up, including Alexander Haney, who leads all scorers with 11 seconds.
Let's going right now it will be West Georgia.
We talked about it having been eight years.
You and I have had the fortunate privilege of being part of all eight broadcast set that have been right here on GPB.
And, you know, it says a lot in economic time that that the sport has still been able to be there for a lot of organizations, particularly at the school level, we know, that are continuously losing funding and so forth.
So it's great to see that this program is surviving and not only surviving, but also thriving as well in tough times.
It is.
It is, but it is a struggle.
And so Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, if you're out there, we could use your support in these economic times for organizations like this are so, so deserving.
And if you're interested in throwing your support behind an organization like this, go to that website, look them up, give them a call and see what you can do to help them out.
Once again, that website is WW w dot adapted sports dot org.
Check it out for more information.
Find out of all the latest we talked about this football coming up.
that was on their meeting with our very own Gil Tyree at halftime talking about spring football coming up even sooner than later right here for the fourth quarter.
First throughout the year.
That's part of the adaptive sports program this year.
And the wheelchair football played also obviously in a wheelchair, hence the name and out the basketball court.
So it's a short field.
It's indoors.
You likened it earlier to arena football and that's a pretty good comparison.
Very fast paced, very exciting teamwork right there.
Terry Chambers acting as a prop there for Johnson to be able to run with Reeves seated into the chair there.
But come on over here.
That's one of the advantages to wearing a leg strap, because it gives you a base.
You can control the wheelchair by by your body twisting at the waist.
And also when you come out of the chair, it helps you be able to get back in.
I was very impressed today with what's going on with race.
The fact that, you know, sure, he's the leading scorer for the Wolfpack and it would be very you know, you kind of rely on him for pregame the game to get it done.
But I've seen him a lot of times, always very unselfish and maybe even have an open look, but yet pass it out to a teammate, particularly Alexander.
And he's got 11 points here today.
He's been very unselfish in the way he's played.
He has.
And, you know, that's just the development of him as a player.
There was a time when he would have never passed away.
Open Mark.
Never, never, never, ever.
But as as how he can contribute the development of his teammates, which makes this team as a whole better, he's learned to involve those other players by being a little less selfish.
And his work is kind of become a almost a mentor and to a certain extent, almost like a coach on the floor to the younger boys, because you have such a wide age range on a team, you have more of that.
You know, the young kids have somebody to really look up to and and the older kids gain a lot of leadership experience and develop that skill, which would serve them very well later in life as they move beyond high school and into collegiate life.
And then after into the world of work.
what a nice pass right there.
Kept it alive.
Did Johnson feeds it ahead to Amy, now to Chambers, back to any contact right there from Johnson.
Got a one block and a foul is going to get an athlete makes it really easy for us to call that that would have been one of those.
And I believe that is Johnson's fifth personal.
So he will have to come out of the lineup right here.
And Douglas Johnson of West Georgia, the leading Wolverines scorer this year, will come out of the lineup.
He will foul out with eight points here and he'll be replaced in the lineup by Eugene Lane, who you saw come in for him.
But what a season for that young man right there, Douglas Johnson from Manchester High School.
A 3.0 GPA will finish the game here with eight points, His team still trailing by eight, still the same score as the end of the fifth period right here.
Everyone's been held scoreless for nearly the first 6 minutes here, five one half minutes of this quarter.
There's a lot of frustration there.
And you know that last foul was was one that was really unnecessary and he could have stayed in the game with that.
But, you know, that's all part of of developing as an athlete as well is learning to control your emotions and emotions game for them.
But you know there again it's just one more way that organized athletics helps to develop young people and to learn to deal with frustrations like that and be better for 2 minutes left in the contest right here.
Once again, I want to thank all of the folks with the adaptive sports team here today.
Of course, the folks from Coosa High School who pitched in, Dr. David Witherow on top.
He announced it here at the Arena Gwinnett Center.
The pride of Maury County High School in Chatsworth, Georgia, is a provider here today.
And right off the glass it goes every chance some people will enter double figures and is his 10th point right there.
So 35, 25, it's a ten point lead with time winding down.
And it does look like Leslie, at this point.
It Atlanta is going to make him four in a row.
What a great accomplishment.
I'm so pleased with the team coaches.
They feel like the dinosaur.
Yes, I'd say that's a dynasty.
Four in a row.
In a row as a dynasty.
I'm pretty sure Coach Ronald, her team could feel it.
We talked about some of the other accomplishments there.
Lacy tore team captain on a roll.
Haley McKinnon, part of the technology club for the Atlanta Wolfpack.
Joshua Porter was named the comeback Player of the year, which was voted on by the team.
Also, Jerry Chambers, part of the rifle team, Boy Scouts and the high school band.
All of folks getting involved in a lot of different things, that's for sure.
Some 15 activities for next year, students, AP classes, FBI and Beta Club.
We're going to look at Chambers.
We were talking about part of that rifle team and the band musically inclined, and we'll have another championship here.
It looks like it looks like we're in a one on one situation here.
Bonuses for 25 seconds left in the contest.
Leslie, It's been fun.
I tell you what, it's I've enjoyed working with you over the years and I know it's been a good audience that we were talking about one of the years, this being one of the top five most watched programs on Georgia Public Broadcasting.
And you see Chambers right there.
His numbers first are off the back of the ion right there.
So some good viewership.
I want to encourage all of our viewers out there to support the adapted sports programs.
What you're seeing on display here today.
And you look at Dotson who hit the floor there, Coach McIntyre saying that he was doing a little acting job right there and deserves an Oscar Grammy or whatever.
You get an Academy Award?
Yeah, definitely.
I definitely think so.
Yeah.
I give him the Golden trophy for sure.
He took a little bit of contact, made it really spectacular.
That's going to say I think he gives up a little bit of size there to Logan What game to little bit of frustration at this point.
You know they wanted this bad.
They wanted to win it for their coach.
It's not to be this around, but they have put on a great show.
We've really enjoyed this game.
Time winding down the West.
Georgia Wolverines will wrap up the season three and four, but state runner ups as the final seconds tick off the clock right here, 3525 is the score.
It'll be the final score.
That's what, fourth time in four years.
The Atlanta Wolfpack is their 2011 state wheelchair basketball champions.
Really just want a job by coach Andrea Arnold, Coach Jimmy Roberts and this Atlanta Wolfpack team capturing yet another title, their fifth overall as a program.
You see only Lawson right there in the frame as well.
The area coordinator always there to cheer her team on.
First I first want to say hi to Beverly Vaughn.
Tommy Storms, their co-founders celebrating the 10th year and the alliance with the Georgia High School Association and the 15th overall, what a partnership it's been with the Georgia High School Association and also with the Georgia Public Broadcasting over the years.
We get set for the championship presentations here taking place midcourt at the arena at Gwinnett Center.
And what a season overall.
I want to say hi to all the teams, congratulate all the student athletes.
And now Fletcher Proctor is standing by with the winning coach.
Fletcher, take it away, Coach Arnold, congratulations.
First of all, four straight five of six.
What's the secret of hard work determination?
I mean, our come out every year determined that they want to be their best and that should be, you know, encourage them to do more.
I really appreciate all the hard work that was made this year.
So that's that's the key.
And a great senior class.
Their final game wrapping it up with the championship.
Yeah we're going to miss them.
I mean I'm glad we went out with a win, but, you know, like I said, see, they will be missed.
They will be missed.
So thank you.
Congratulations.
The fourth straight coach.
I'll let you go get your trophy.
I want to wish Coach McIntyre a speedy recovery.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Good again.
Back to you guys.
Thank you.
Fletcher Again, Coach Arnold, a class act, indeed, as the Atlanta Wolfpack claim.
Another title action.
Coming up.
We're going to wrap things up for this broadcast.
We want to welcome the entire GPB team at four Lesley Sweat.
But I'm Dave Gardner saying so long, more live basketball right here on GPB throughout the day.
Stay with us.
