And we are ready for the Houston County Sharks and the West Georgia Wolverines and the officials for today's game.
They have their hands full.
Leon Porter, Alvin Jackson and Stephen Lewis, those are your officials for today's game enthusiastic crowd from Houston County across the way.
Leslie, they always bring a big group with and you'll see him in his bright orange shak t shirt.
All right.
Let's get ready to rumble, as the saying goes.
And we'd like to remind you that the coaches for Houston County are Brenda Arnett and Stephen Robinson, and the coaches for West Georgia are Richard McIntyre and Rick McIntyre.
And we've got the tip coming at mid court here.
And on the tip, Jake Billingsley and Douglas Johnson will tip it at mid-court and the ball in the air and the tip goes to West Georgia.
We are in for court.
We will play six, eight minute quarters with a running clock down around the baseline whistle jump ball has Lee let's let's talk a little bit about dribbling two spins of the of the wheelchair air that's that's right two pushers on two wheels is allowed the twin dribbles and if you get a third push in before you dribble or pass or shoot, then the striped shirts are going to call you for a travel interception by West Georgia and a bounce pass ahead.
Now, Crystal Ivey shot's up and good.
Eugene Lane Now you'll notice that Eugene Lang, who just shot that basket, is really only functional.
Using one arm is referred to as a hemiplegia.
With that one arm, he pushes his chair up and down the court and takes all of his passes and shots.
Braxton Robinson.
Braxton Robinson, right in front of our area.
Here's the first basket on a free throw.
Look at this.
Nice shot up and in good break.
All right, West Georgia, once more on the attack here.
Don't be deceived by their two and four record.
Good ball movement down there.
Laura Ray, another shot up, no good Rebound West Georgia up no good.
And the rebound comes down to Jeff Clay Billingsley Billingsley, by the way, for Houston County averaging eight points per game Fast break with Braxton Robinson shot is up no good rebound West Georgia man look at him take off going to get a layup here stop pull up and good the west Georgia now up for ten I think Steve Johnson with the basket averaging nine points per game middle we might want to remember that this was Georgia team as a veteran here at Georgia state championship game day whereas the Sharks are newbies.
Yeah they're rookies.
Let's take a look at this fast break basket by Douglas Johnson here pulls up Good form and good shot.
Now fast break going the other way Haston County did not take the break pull up and two Billingsley going to be back out of the way and saved in the nick of time down on the baseline Good bounce pass bounces away Alston County with the ball could be a jump ball here yes we've got a jump ball ask you Georgia.
All right, Leslie, let's talk a little bit about the younger players.
There's no age limit as far as what grade you have to be.
And this is not like a nine through 12.
That's correct.
Basketball game, right?
That's right.
And in order to be an eligible athlete under ASP guidelines, you have to be enrolled in get grades one through 12 with a documented physical disability that keeps you from playing able body version of the sport.
All right.
Another fast break basket and amps alertly.
Good shot by Crystal Ivey.
But it bounces off and obviously when I was looking away, we had a travel or something, but the ball went out of bounds and that's going to be a sharks ball inbounds.
Braxton Robinson on the fast break.
Nice job getting through traffic.
Yes, indeed.
Look at this.
Look at the defense he manages even with one arm.
He's Eugene Lane just was a blur coming down there, did a great job in catch up on defense.
Then his first fouls on Eugene Lane, his first team, first West Georgia, leading here early in this contest over Houston County, Houston County, undefeated at six in a Billingsley up and good eyes to play Billingsley.
Westbrook is doing a nice job of forcing them to shoot from the outside.
They got inside on that one.
He got a bucket for it.
Look at Billingsley here.
He's also a good student.
Got a 3.0 grade point average in four court in West Georgia on the break.
Shot up no good again.
Shot is good.
What a nice, nice comeback by Eugene Lane.
He's got that shooter's touch, doesn't he?
He really does.
It's so much fun to watch his kids develop through the years.
When he came into this league, he was a tiny little thing to barely get up and down the court and look at him now.
Braxton Robinson, trying to avoid a tie up there and a jump ball batted away.
Trust me when I tell you folks, the accent's hot and heavy out there on the court.
Fast break again.
I think we got a foul from behind for the shot.
Yep.
I think that's on Brazil.
He was beat, so he was doing the next best thing.
He was going to foul on one stop shop prevented the breakaway baskets West Georgia six Houston county to remember.
Now West Georgia comes in with a record of two and four.
Houston County undefeated, six and absolutely.
In fact, those two losses came to oust Gallo.
Really?
That's who they lost to.
And and in their defense, Doug Johnstone, one of their star players, was under the weather and it was a double header.
So that might have been the difference could have been shot is up no good in four court now in back court Billingsley got to toss it ahead to Robinson batted away however, by Douglas Johnston.
This West Georgia team loves to press and it's not easy to break that press.
No.
See a lot of that.
I tell you this is interesting.
Doug Johnson, Laura Rae, are the seniors on West Georgia, Ben Masters and Jeff Sweeney of Houston County are the seniors.
Their shot is up no good, 30, 43.
A lot of traffic there.
Billingsley under the basket up and good looking to play Billingsley now with 4.6 to 4 West Georgia and Houston County here comes west Georgia.
Good shot up off the rim.
No good Billingsley there for the rebound again Presley with a rebound ahead to Billingsley across the time line now bounces away and out of bounds and still will be Houston County.
Let's take a look at the basket Billingsley right there in the lane up and in Nice touch from right in front of the basket Billingsley with the ball batted out of bounds again going to be Houston County's ball.
One of the things you'll realize is a big difference with wheelchair ball intentional lateral movement.
I can't take a step sideways when I'm in a wheelchair.
So the way they move up and down the floor looks a little bit different from what you're used to seeing.
All right.
And we also want to point out also that it's okay to cradle the ball in your lap as long as you take two Spins of the world.
Right.
There's no double dribble.
You can put that ball in your lap, dribble, push your chair and dribble again.
We have played one and it's been a good one thus far.
West Georgia leads Houston County 6 to 4 in this.
The A AA SB wheelchair basketball championships from the Macon Center Flex.
Tommie Palmer and Leslie Redmond will be back with quarter two in a moment.
We're heading into the second quarter, by the way.
There will be six quarters, 8 minutes in each quarter, a running clock there.
The clock does not even stop during each quarter.
That's correct.
Yes.
And part of this rule regulations under ASP is that every player on the team must play one of those six minute periods per half.
Right.
Okay.
We have no benchwarmers.
There you go.
West Georgia, three out of ten Houston County, two out of four from the field, West Georgia on the attack jump ball with Coulston County by Steele with the tie up but the ball on possession very good West Georgia with one turnover Houston county with six thus far Robinson ahead to Billingsley looking and ahead on the fast break faith backer 000 Snap out of bounds and west Georgia West Georgia plays very good defense as well They keep the pressure on.
They do throughout the game.
And that is something that some of the teams have trouble breaking.
So we'll see how House holds up here.
Cross the time line.
Nice spin, move looking and going to get pressure.
Johnson open under the basket but couldn't get the pass away.
Robinson batted away to go back the other way.
The sharks will take over from there he hand to Robinson ahead to Billingsley.
Here comes that press and there's the breaking the press.
Robinson got somebody opened down under the basket.
We may have a jump ball here No shot is up and lookout No good Batted away by Billingsley.
Watch the next two Jeff Sweeney who is averaging eight points a game took the shot and he's down under there again no good follow up is good.
Now, what you might want to know about Jeff Sweeney is that a week ago he was in intensive care.
You told us that.
And I don't know whether he thought he was going to play, but he decided he was going to play today, got clearance and came back.
And he was at practice on Monday and the coach said, nope, you're not practicing to Monday, but he's here today.
right.
Douglas Johnson brings it down, gets it across to Lara, Ray, Ray spins, passes, shots up.
No good rebound for four under there comes out to Houston County I had to Robinson behind face backer Ross Robinson Nice steal there one of the toughest things to do and it looks simple enough but making a pass to a player that's rolling because it's more difficult in a chair to adjust your speed to speed up or slow down to accommodate a pass that might be a little bit off.
So accurate passing and wheelchair basketball so much more difficult and critical than it is and the able bodied version of the sport.
Final called on Laura Rea, her first jump ball coming over.
I have used the analogy and I hope this is okay if you if you don't think this is tough to shoot from this wheelchair, take a chair outside.
If you have a go outside, sit down in that and try to ring the goal from there.
It really takes a lot of work.
Yeah, people don't realize how much it is with their legs when they shoot, which of course these these athletes are not able to do from a seated position.
Ivy has it batted away and looking for some help down there and looking throwing it away all the way down to Johnson up and a no good Billingsley with a rebound and a pass I had I think we may have a foul call.
Yes we did but I was I was teaching Lane it is always his second.
He really plays aggressively.
He enjoys this Look at this Billingsley And that's a foul BILLINGSLEY with a long four forecourt pass but he picked up the foul contact on the wheelchair is like cotton.
All right on the body.
We need to explain this right here.
You see this situation right here where there is a complete turn over of the wheelchair?
Yes.
Go ahead and explain that this particular young lady needed some assistance from a coach to get up, but it's not unusual to see an athlete stand up right there, chair, and get back in it.
Remember that many of these players are able to walk.
They use the chair as a leveling tool for the sport.
And so while some may stand up and walk in order to get back in the chair, it's the chair that that makes it all equal while you're out there rolling around fouls.
On Webb Her first lady said, All right, here we go, West Georgia on the attack.
We've got a time game.
fast break up.
No Gordon has been county on the rebound.
These were nice passes there leading up to that shot.
They were trying to reach in to tie that ball up.
But instead it'll hurt Lee got to got a piece of a Jeff Sweeney and so got called for that foul Yeah got to got him right in the face You got a jump ball on the end pass right Inbounds Faith backer Hey batted away Nice move by Douglas Johnson in there Douglas is all over the court Here he is He's the captain of that team and this is his last game I think it's a yeah, he's a senior.
So this will be his final game.
Yeah.
Billingsley on the break crossed the time line and cut off by Johnson but gets it ahead now to Robinson and he's up under the basket passes off shot is that no good follow up is good and Jeff Sweeney is like Eugene Lang on West Georgia Sweeney for the love of his 31 maybe Haston county team is also what we would refer to as a chemically jet that he's only got functional use of one of his arms right there Fast break by West Georgia who's missed their last four shots until that one beautiful difference goes here a bit of a lost out the back shot.
Yes, it is.
That's why they put glass back there.
But a lot of people have forgotten that somewhere along the way.
Billingsley against Johnson over there.
Billingsley ahead to Braxton Robinson, who breaks the press and gets to the head to face Baker.
Now back to Billingsley batted away.
Johnson all over the floor.
Douglas Johnson Long arms.
Good gracious.
He can reach things you don't think he can reach.
I'm telling you, he is impressive.
Six second chance points for Houston County, West Georgia, one out of three here in the second quarter and Houston County two out of five from the floor.
Possession of possession error.
West Georgia top ball once more once west Georgia such a such a great job of tying up the ball and getting those alternating possessions it's it's really a something that their coaches coach in to that reach out and touch that ball and it didn't get to him on it for a couple of seconds four get the possession All right let's take a trip around our great state of Georgia on Georgia Traveler From the mountains to the coast, our traveling team explores the state's most beautiful, exciting and unique treasures.
Don't miss Georgia Traveler on the great GPB seven.
Zelensky is one fantastic guy to watch.
He's been hosting that show for years now, and you got to see what he did with Mark Harmon and Jon Nelson.
You need to you need to see that clip.
my.
See that?
Yes.
It was wonderful.
The zip line was something to behold.
Great fun.
Here we're looking at the five, a championship cheerleading squad from high school that's here today to cheer on their own house.
Two gunshots.
There you go.
Harleston County Fair is a good I believe that's correct.
They call him Loco in West Georgia, All of them.
All seven steel to Boston County with two takeovers less than a minute left in this second quarter of play.
Remember, we're playing six quarters, 8 minutes each and a running clock.
And a running clock.
That's correct.
Stopping only for time outs, injuries and free throws.
All right.
Harleston County leads in rebounds 11 to 3.
Give a sudden stop.
And now ahead on the fast break shot is up and no good rebounds is going to come out to house.
Allen County Jeff Sweeney right under the basket along with Billingsley Robinson has it batted away and a good take away up and no good whistle and a foul so looks like Douglas Johnston right he got fouled there and I believe he's got to go to the line is they're shooting to some good steals a beautiful piece of defense right here you see Harleston county and it's batted away by Johnston then he fires away and there is the foul No good free toss no good.
He'll have another one coming.
And that free throw line, you know, may be free.
In the able bodied version.
There's nothing free about it.
And a wheelchair ball that is a long way away from that ten foot hurt.
It really is that Johnston has no problem getting it.
yeah, no problem at all.
Some of the younger kids, you'll see him struggle to get the ball anywhere near the rim on a free throw attempt.
But Mr. Johnson does not have that power.
Nice shot.
Good free throw high arc.
He puts a high arc on it all that he does.
It's a pretty shot, isn't it?
It really is.
It was the same one we were commenting on using the glass as well.
Right.
Harleston County inbounds.
It knocked away by West Georgia.
West Georgia Wolverines came in two and four, Harrison County six and that's right.
Let's do this.
Let's take a break with your score.
West Georgia nine Harleston County eight Welcome back to the Macon Center plex.

West Georgia on the Move.
Laura Ray at the top of the key and you might notice out there right now a very small player for the West Georgia team.
That would be our very young Brian Lanier out on the floor for the first time.
Number four, he's not timid about getting it right in the middle of the action either.
He's out there.
He is not.
They have taught how to set a pick, how to set it well.
And he can shoot.
Yes, he pays close out.
Braxton Robinson will trigger it in the end.
It comes to Kiera Miles and we got a foul and speaking out.
Number four, Brian Allen.
Here there is Mr. Learner here.
He got a half pound here.
Did add a boy Brian Robinson inbounds it.
Yeah Linear must be the spud web address Georgia That's excellent.
That's a good line.
I love that Gaston County shot is up.
my nice long shot.
He makes it look so effortless.
He was?
Yeah.
William Moore.
yes.
You will see quite a few three point shots.
Don't be surprised if at some point somebody throws someone up from behind the arc.
You have quite a few kids on the floor right now who are fully capable of shooting a three point and Billingsley comes down the lane, lays it up no good.
And guess who?
Douglas Johnson on the fast break.
And here comes Eugene Lane.
Has it batted away by Robinson as they get to the top of the key, Lane gets it back.
Look at this Nice pass shot up.
No good rebound Robinson loses everywhere Everywhere.
Robinson is everywhere Billingsley with a check there out of bounds of inches as well.
When he had possession of the ball and his tire touched the boundary line and is out of bounds that's like stepping on the line with your foot in the air, able bodied sport that's out of bounds.
There you go.
And here we go.
Johnston triggers it and gets it to Eugene Lane, and the left is going to hand it off to Laura Rea at the top of the key.
Laura looking shot's going to go up and no good.
Follow good.
Such a difficult shot Douglas to the basket on that shot but managed to lay it up anyway.
That one was a good one.
Great shot by Johnson Falls in to Robinson.
Now to that Billingsley.
Let's see if they can break that for us.
It's tough.
Robinson Boy, West Georgia is relentless in that full court pressure.
And they get it ahead to William Moore.
And there is the ten second rule.
Yes, you got that is you got 10 seconds to get it across the time line, just like in regulation.
There we goes.
That doesn't know.
Back up after the basket.
Difficult shot.
So difficult, right?
Follow up.
You can't make adjustments to your speed in the chair like you can when you're on your feet.
And it's really, really difficult shot to make when you get up underneath the basket like that.
There's no verticality.
You can't jump and bring your arms around the basket like you would see an able bodied player does.
All right.
West Georgia leading 11 to 8 so far, Leslie, it has been a good one.
All right.
Six periods in each quarter or rather six quarters, 8 minutes in each quarter.
Two pushes on the wheel between the dribble.
Third push is a travel correct.
If you touch with your wheelchair, the sideline or and long drives, it's out of bounds.
You have the same line call that everybody has.
You've got the same ten second time line in order to get the ball over half court.
What about 3 seconds in the late 30 seconds?
One line, same rules.
Same rules.
Okay.
It can be a little more difficult to get out of the line.
Yes.
In a wheelchair and it gets congested down there.
But if you got in ref's figure, you can get out, right, So that there's not too much leeway given there.
Robinson ahead two miles back to Robinson batted away Billingsley going to try to chase it down and let it go out of bounds.
It's going to be housed and county ball I'll tell you why West Press has got to stop.
West Georgia has been relentless in this press.
I have watched them do this all year long.
Actually.
Houston County is handling it better than most teams they've played against.
Have Billingsley get to the head two miles passed and county leads in rebounds 14 to 5.
Let's see if they can break that press.
Now, you won't see West Georgia give up on it.
I'll tell you that much.
No, they have they have been press all game long.
It's a head to Billingsley across the timeline.
Looking ahead now, Moore ahead.
Battle for the ball going to go out of bounds.
nasty right.
Galveston County will maintain possession.
They do like to get the ball And Braxton Robinson stands out whether to shoot or to bring it in.
He's one of their best ball handlers for sure.
Nice little inbounds pass from Robinson ahead to Sweeney, who missed the layup.
And now a look ahead here.
And here comes Braxton trying to run down that fast break and there's a foul Foul is going to be called, I believe, on Wayne Billingsley.
It's worse yeah his first foul.
Yeah.
Let's take a look at that one.
That was that was a hard hit.
You got a breakaway here.
You have Braxton chasing her down, which causes her to alter her path and hit from behind Much like a traffic accident.
Yeah, on the expressway.
If you hit him from behind, that's your foul.
That's a that's a Joe Billingsley on the inbounds Johnson right in his face and he's not moving.
Got a nice hook there.
Very good.
Now ahead to Robinson who tries to get it ahead going to be bounced out of bounds and it's still going to be Houston County head Jeff Zeleny.
So wide open down the court.
But he had so much pressure up in his face, he couldn't find him, could find finding a lot of traffic out there, a lot of traffic with this press that you see.
JOHNSON Use that right hand to bounce the ball.
Now back just a little and it's going to be pulled down by Lowry shot is up and good Eugene Lane has just been deadly from right under the basket I can remember when teams didn't used to cover Eugene because he couldn't shoot.
Those days are gone.
Yeah, they're gone.
He's really been a factor.
He's got six points here in the first half.
Billingsley looking, trying to get it ahead now and gonna to be stopped by Brian Lanier.
Let's take a look at the Eugene Lane basket He's good pass and there's Eugene up and in how well he handles that pass with that one on side here for a second foul on Brian Lanier okay young Brian get after it out there He's fearless He is he is right in the middle of traffic Billingsley trying to get it past.
Johnson.
Looks like he may be in trouble.
You got 5 seconds there to get it downcourt to Robinson up.
No good again good follow up is good at his own But now that's my shot with Braxton Robinson, who had been averaging 16 a game.
That's his first to the ninth.
here comes Lane across the time line Blaine looking going to pull up and get it to Lowry and Laura's going to turn around and look over her shoulder, get it to Johnson.
Going to fire it up.
No good.
Doesn't get the foul call.
Rae goes after it, but it goes out of bounds.
And Houston County will take it the other way, as we said.
Was nice defense on that shot.
Yes, it was.
Johnson was ready to pull the trigger on that one half court pass almost to Billingsley.
And the ball's going to be fought for as we come down to the final 10 seconds, Robinson tries to trigger a pass to Swain.
He can't get it to him on the long range fouls on Laura Rae, her second foul.
We got 7.2 seconds left.
West Georgia leading 13 to 10.
West Georgia came in two and four.
Houston County defeated at six.
And if you've just joined us, this looks like land bonus.
I believe we got a one on one.
Got it.
All right, Billingsley.
Jacquie Billingsley, He's got a 3.0 grade point average too.
Good student In addition to averaging eight points per game, Billingsley takes his time.
Nice shot.
No good.
Bounces off to the left side.
Missed the iron.
It was a one and one.
And the ball will go over to West Georgia.
Get it in two lane lane back to Johnson Johnson trying to get ahead for a final shot here in the final few seconds.
Johnson Fire just missed it.
That was close.
You talking about getting it down at the end of the first half?
Time for that buzzer beater.
He almost got it.
He almost did.
All right.
So all right.
We have played the first half West Georgia Wolves lead the undefeated Houston County Sharks, 13 to 10.
We'll be back with a second half of action after this break.
Welcome back to the Macon Center Flex, Tommy Palmer, along with Leslie Sweetman.
Good to have you along.
It's been a great first half.
It has.
It's been an exciting first half, nice, tight game, fun to see.
West Georgia has been so dominant on defense that pressure defense has really created havoc.
They really do such a nice job with ball control.
They create havoc on the defensive end and and every every player on that floor can handle the ball.
Let's take a look at the first half highlights.
And there were some good ones.
Fill us in Eugene Lane here.
There you see Eugene catching that ball ball one handed, throwing it back up again.
Eugene has a beautiful game down on the other end for Houston County.
Now we've got another heavy doing the same thing.
It was a rebound.
Put the back end Beautiful blocked Nice shot by Jeff Sweeney And there's Billingsley with a nice shot there.
Let's take a look at the first half stats West Georgia six out of 19 Houston County five out of 14 nine steals for West Georgia.
That's been the story.
There's that defense there.
You go to four Houston County rebounds.
Houston County leads the way with 16.
West Georgia has 613 turnovers for Houston County that hurts and six for West Georgia.
That makes a big difference.
Goes hand in hand with those steals.
That second chance points passed and county dominating there 8 to 4.
Yeah that goes hand in hand with those rebounds with their defense.
But I do believe that the West Georgia defense has been the difference in the first half.
I believe so too.
It's that press.
All right.
Let's take a look at the coaches you can identify them for us.
This is Mrs. Brenda Arnett, head coach for the house.
King shops in the background.
The gentleman in the power wheelchair is a community coach who assists the team.
This is the head coach for the West Georgia Wolverines, Richard MacIntyre, his son, Rick Cisco, coach here.
You got he's getting them ready.
Look at Coach Mack.
He's he's getting them fired up and getting them ready as we head into the second half of action.
Remember, if you just joined us their eight minute quarters, we play three quarters per half a total of six.
Right.
It's an eight minute running clock.
The entire time.
And we're set for the second half of action and the possession error goes to the house and counting.
Sharks two pushes on a wheel between the dribble.
You can actually cradle the basketball in your lap to take your two pushes before you dribble.
Right?
The third push is a travel.
If you get on the end line or the sideline, 3 seconds in the lane will be called.
There's the five second violation.
And you also have 10 seconds to go because all those rules are the same.
And Billingsley on the fouls Robinson Robinson up no good rebound comes out to west Georgia they don't bother those open shots Is that Bubba outside of Bubba okay Nobody would know who Joe was.
Joseph is calling Bubba.
Joseph is number ten in your program, but he's Bubba to everybody back home.
I want to know who Joseph is.
Eugene up under the basket too far and it's going to be thrown away.
We had a backpack on Doug Johnston.
He was back all the way back and where they were having to bring Bubba back to set a pick to free him up from the defender that had him stuck back at midcourt.
I love the way they play defense here.
They get after each other.
They do really good.
I liked to watch the expressions on their faces when they get close to each other.
It's it's it's prize.
It's intense.
They know each other well.
They play each other.
Yeah.
They know each other well.
They know their strengths and weaknesses and they love to get after it.
Are there some rivalry thoughts here that's like, okay, absolutely.
Definitely.
There are some big rivalries.
Good.
Robinson Trying to get it away on the ball is batted in near us here out of bounds Lauri couldn't gather it up she almost had a bit of bounced off her chair which is the same thing as bouncing off of her.
There you go Now David Press click on a trigger it and it's going to go to Billings.
They trying to break away to Robinson.
Good.
Such a tough shot again rolling away as his starting to start in the wrong direction.
But you see him make a correction from the shoulders and shoot that ball out.
Braxton Harrington for points he's averaging 16 a game He needs to get hot here.
It scores 13 to 12.
West Georgia over Houston County.
Eugene brings it down, passes it away, loses it on the give back from Laura Rae and out of bounds.
It's going to go let's take a look at that last basket Robinson on the breakaway way under he is on that Nicely done Very difficult shot very Good Another angle at that good shot up off the board.
You know the board the backboard has become a dying art.
You see it more in wheelchair ball because the Yankees are different the way you're shooting, you're almost have to lose it.
Long shot is up and no good by Jake Billingsley against to west Georgia as it goes out of bounds Well now take over We got a close tight one here West Georgia 13 Charleston County 12 from the Macon center place.
These young boys and girls are really enjoying the atmosphere of being in this big, nice arena.
They're enjoying it.
Eugene Lane on the break.
Going to flip a cross court to Laura Rae, who misses Long shot.
Not quite that nice shot.
Billingsley on the rebound.
Fast break.
she's going to catch it for that ball Nice defense that time by Krystal Ivie Really well done to catch up to that ball.
Ivey Ahead to Laura Ahead to Johnson Now.
Johnson going to pass it away to Ivey.
IVEY Looking going to get it to Rae.
There is Eugene once more uncharacteristically missing that open shot.
He had missed him in reverse.
He's been spot on right under the basket there.
Billingsley Here comes that press when they break it.
it is relentless.
Press They going to pass it away.
Says it's like coach called a timeout to avoid that ten second call it was coming and that's that's the thing that most of our fans don't really understand.
The same rules apply.
Absolutely.
Georgia Tech whiz kids have teamed up to compete for cash on a UFC baton with a 2013 and venture prize at Georgia Tech.
Tune in to GPB Tuesday, March 13th at 7 p.m. to see the six finalists demonstrate and defend their innovations in.

This is something you can't miss in venture on GPB Wednesday, March 13th at 7:00 for that great GPB pro programing.
So much fun.
Tommy, on that last time out I saw Brandon not I that not real happy ending the ref's ear there maybe a little complaint about all that press their players are getting bumped around a little bit.
We'll see if it makes a difference in how they solve it.
West Georgia zero for two in the second half passed and county is one three.
Charleston County leads in rebounds 18 to 8 for west Georgia.
Here's Robinson on the break yet again Robinson backing up trying to pull the trigger and can't getting pressure from Gray and we're going to get 3 seconds in the lane early yes the 3 seconds as the lane and remember that there is no double dribble.
They can put the ball in their lap.
They can push their chair, pick the ball back up, dribble it, put it back in their lap and so on.
But 3 seconds in the lane and all the other rules apply.
Yeah, we haven't seen it but over in back is the same.
Laura Wright on the break tries to get it in there.
Eugene's going to fire it up.
Good Eugene layup.
Ah, he's dead.
He's had a great day.
He's got eight points.
He had been averaging three points a game.
So Eugene is having a career here in the big house.
This West Georgia team will take what you give them if you're going to take away, you know Doug Johnston shots.
Then in comes Eugene or one of these other players breakaway here up and no good whistle and the foul Jacqui Billingsley on the fast break Let's take a look at the form once more for Eugene Lane Billings gets it right takes it back to Eugene up and off the glass.
Rae got her chair turned.
She knew she didn't have that shot.
But there's that Eugene Lane in the lane.
I don't get credit for that.
Her statistician gets credit for that.
But Billingsley taking a second shot here.
Yeah.
You notice his front casters are over the line.
That's legal it's where his rear wheels touch the floor.
That can't be over the line, Terrence.
Off the iron and out of bounds.
And we'll go to West Georgia.
West Georgia with a three point lead now and the ball in the back court seen a little frustration on Billingsley space on that one.
He he wanted those two points frustrated with himself for not getting them.
But again, that's a tough shot from the free throw line when they sit there.
Eugene looking down to Johnston Yeah, the dribble and the shot up and no good.
Nice rebound rebound, Nice break.
But again, Wow.
my gosh.
I think she hit her chin on the way down.
I think she hit her face in her nose.
Right.
She came spilling out of there with either his knee or the wheelchair.
Perhaps that hurts low to the nose.
Let's take look at the replay.
That was a she might have played time out here to the side, the sideline and get checked out.
Wow.
That was a collision still here.
Let's take another look at this slo mo steel.
But the her motion carried her into, Wow.
The force.
Yeah, I think.
And I think she hit his knee.
Yeah, she hit his knee or either his hand coming down.
I think we got to.
I think we have a bloody nose.
As a matter of fact, we do.
It looks suspiciously like one.
What you saw Robinson trying to reach out and and break, you know, help her.
Yeah.
She's good right here.
The game.
Yeah.
And she's going to she's going to have to come out right now.
All they stop the nosebleed.
Yeah.
And the emotion hurt starts to get hit in the face like that.
It does.
And I'm sure there is a good bit of not wanting to come out of the game.
yeah.
That's probably the thing that frustration.
And they come out for sure looks like they're going to bring it.
Is that coming in.
Logan.
Logan War.
Jenkins coming.
I pronounce his name right, I believe that's correct.
Okay, so Logan will come in.
Come on to the ball.
That's what it is.
Bloodied nose.
She'll be back soon at the first ball player to get her nose.
Bloody bashing.
No, I've been there, done that.
Doesn't feel good, but no, it doesn't.
The next day is when it really feels good.
Laura Ray who Eugene Lane.
Hopefully athlete this Yeah right Rebound by Billingsley Billingsley has been right there Here comes the double team on and Robinson Robinson who has been averaging 16 points a game he's been struggling to get open there really clamping down on him on defense so he's been scoring 16 points a game.
They came out and said we're going to double team him.
We're not going to let him have those easy looks.
Three fouls.
Laura Rae Now, Billingsley, we are in the second half here, West Georgia leading 15 at 12.
Here's Robinson outside got the open baskets and nice lead pass there Robinson who has been averaging 16 a game now has six and Billingsley got that long pass to work for him and Johnston on the fast break Johnston pulls up gets it to land batted away by Billingsley Nice block follow up no good and Johnston can't get to it This was a nice inbounds pass nice long shot that allowed that free throw the are that layup to be successful Billingsley with a long pass and Robinson to the basket and Robinson now with the ball and Billingsley across for looking and really now having to hand the ball off to Robinson Robinson ahead to Billingsley but let's see what we've got We've got a foul blocking foul ball Yeah we've got a blast.
is that her fourth?
Yeah, Yeah.
The wheelchairs in order to in order to have a legal block what you have to do is get the front, the wheelchair has to be completely in front of your opponent's chair.
So if that collision is coming from the side, then they're going to go to control the ball here.
Two full shots to Braxton Robinson from downtown.
That's what you do.
Yeah, that's what they need him to do.
Right there.
Right.
He's had six points in the quarter as we come to the end of the fourth quarter.
Is that right?
Period for six.
All right.
Let's take a look at that break.
I tell you what, as we go to break, take a look at this shot here by Robinson.
Nice outside shot from nice As we start the fourth quarter of play, we need to explain there are six quarters there, 8 minutes with a running clock in each quarter.
That's right.
Six, eight minute periods.
I like to call them periods.
Okay.
So we're experiencing nine here.
All right.
8 minutes and eight.
Two bushes on the wheel between the dribble and they can lay it in their lap while they push the wheels.
Now, no such thing as a double dribble.
They can they can stop their dribble and pick it back up again as long as they don't push more than twice on the wheels in between.
And they'll remember that a pivotal a return is also a push, Right?
So it's not just a straight forward push.
There you get American Association of Adapted Sports, and this is the championship game here in Georgia from the Macon Center Flex, Laura Ray gets it to Crystal Ivey and it bounces away and bangs her back.
We didn't know whether we were going to see it.
We got to see it back.
Court violations to net an artificial right on top of that.
The wheel just met the midcourt line and that's all it takes in the second half.
West Georgia, two out of seven and field goals.
Houston County three out of five in rebounds Houston County with 21 West Georgia with ten rebounds.
We see Crystal Ivey back out in the game.
That bloody nose didn't stop it for long, did it no.
Braxton Robinson has eight points, four rebounds and two steals.
He's averaging 16 points, but he's gotten a lot of company.
He's gotten a lot of attention there.
This is like a family to him.
All right.
Here we see Crystal back in the game after having her nose bloodied earlier.
and she is right in the middle of the action.
And Robinson puts it up and in with all that ice.
What defense against him?
He managed to get that one in.
That was a nice shot.
Laura Ray gets it ahead to Eugene Lane, who had just had to pick up that pass.
It actually went on the wrong side of him.
Nice block by Billingsley on Johnson.
That doesn't happen very often.
Sure doesn't Billingsley trying to get out of trouble and he needs to get rid of the ball in a hurry.
Not too late.
Looks like we have a little Southern timeout inside that ten second moment.
Save Saved.
Yes.
Saved him, didn't it?
Coach Arnett does know how to coach.
Yes, she does.
Let's take a look at this basket by Braxton Robinson, right under the basket.
All of that right there in his face.
And he still puts it up in the air.
And Crystal Ivey was right there, fearless, as was Eugene.
You know, we guessed right.
We thought she was going to come back.
And she did.
I didn't think she'd be out for long.
She's a little too tough for that.
Yes, that's Garnett Arnett.
Mustering the troops probably give him a little bit of input on how they can break that press.
Yeah, she's she's answering all the questions.
Here's Coach Mack.
He's trying to figure out what the strategy as he was looking.
Did you see that?
I think he was doing a little recon.
Yeah.
Come out and see what the other guys are going to do.
Yeah.
He's the coach of the West Georgia Wolves who came in two and four, by the way, and Harleston County came in undefeated, six in a row.
And here we are with 619 left in, the fifth quarter, 1815 Harrison County.
And it's been a holding this is they only just got the lead for maybe the first time I believe Robyn's last period has all of Harrison County as points.
No one except Robinson has scored since the second quarter for Harleston County.
Laura Ray Yep, We had a pretty big collision there.
You saw Robinson stand up.
It's not the athletes that are in the chairs are not necessarily using chairs their everyday lives.
Many of them can and do walk, but they don't have good enough use of their legs to play the able bodied basketball.
So they get in the chair by playing chair ball.
Yeah, of course you do have to have a documented physical disability to be able to do that, right?
And we needed to explain that because.
A lot of people, I think they think they can't walk, right?
They can't stand.
That's not the case.
Some cannot, but some did.
Well, I'm not sure, But I believe Crystal Harvey got hit in the face with the basketball, saw that mask coming in at her in the face again.
Darn it.
She's going to have to have time out with her nose.
I'm sure Hurt was a second close call was he got to pick that time and managed to get through the traffic, got over the time line looking for the open pass, sweetie.
no.
Good.
Had too much speed going.
He didn't get control of it again.
And Robinson gets it.
And Johnson's in right behind them.
Yeah.
Here's Robinson on the line now.
He was explaining.
Yeah, he was explaining.
He was pushed on that, which might have been a valid argument.
But you know what?
You see Robinson bounce the ball on the sideline.
Yeah.
there, there was that pass we talked about it got bumped again.
She's gonna be score tomorrow Robinson shout it out.
She pushed me right.
To no avail.
To no avail.
He was not impressed.
You know, he wasn't buying us on time out again down on the court.
West Georgia trailing now 18 to 15.
West Georgia has just they've been very good on defense this half but they just can't seem to seem to get it going on offensively here is off little bit on their shots that they sure they they maintain the defensive pressure the refs put some points back up on the board.
They want to win this one because they're down three now and we've got 4 minutes and 31 seconds left in this one.
And then it's the final four in another.
That's right.
Another eight minute period.
Billingsley has had a great game.
Take a look at this guy.
He is strong.
There is the long pass to Robinson up and in Nice pass there Billingsley again and Robinson the dynamic duo once more Robinson with a shot good And here's Robinson again in traffic from Billingsley three great assist this list and on that last shot I saw saw Robinson turn around and point at Darryl Billingsley and give him is to those for those assists Here's the difference in the second half of tonight's ah today's game has come down he's been four of seven and West Georgia's one of their last nine and west Georgia just took another one so they're one of ten.
Eugene has kind of cooled a little bit here, a little bit there, pepper him a little tighter.
They've figured out he's sitting there open and they're not going to let that happen anymore.
Coach Arnett's, I'm sure, talked to her team about that.
Here's Billingsley now and a short pass to Robinson, Laura Ray guarding and she is really all over Robinson who spins and tries to get away getting some picks there gets him up, gets it there.
Gracie Webb who's going to be tied up?
I don't know.
Laura Ray Succession Arrow goes to West Georgia.
This has been interesting.
It's great fun to watch this heat for opposition and you have to remember, too, that they're using their arms to move their chairs and then they'll have to use those same arms to shoot the ball, catch the ball, make the pass.
So while able bodied player is using the big muscles of the of the core and the quad and the glutes, all that work is being done by biceps, triceps and deltoids out here.
So smaller muscles doing a big muscles job.
You know, they're getting their fatigue and they'll get tired.
Webb To Billingsley and to Robinson tried to say that but was not able to not able to save it.
So it goes back to West Georgia.
Eugene Lane looking ahead and gets it to Krystal Ivey, who's pressured and Crystal looking ahead to Laura Rae and trying to get a screen and does trying to get the pass to Johnson a little too far.
Master Douglas Johnson, he's got those great long arms, but he just wasn't quite tall enough of them.
Ben Masters and Jeff Sweeney are the seniors for Houston County Shorts and Doug Johnston and Laura Rare, the seniors for a West Georgia.
So they are playing in their final game.
But we had a little collision here at half court.
Gracie Webb going to hold the pass from Billingsley.
And that's one of the one of the differences you see you see in this West Georgia team.
And there's not a there's not a player out there who doesn't do a really nice job.
The ball some of these younger players on the Harleston County team haven't developed to that point yet.
That being a case in point, Gracie couldn't handle that pass, but she'll come along and in a few years we'll be talking about her the same way we talk about Laura and Crystal.
She has had a good season.
She's averaged two points per game, so she's doing well.
She is, especially for a youngster.
Listen, it's it's it's heated battle out there today.
It's not for the faint of heart.
It's not the turnovers for west of Georgia, west Georgia now up to 13.
And that has really hurt them here, especially in the second half.
It has.
And I'm seeing some holding going on over there.
But they got a kick out of it.
They I should say there was about three players holding Robinson on that last one.
And he managed to pop one wheel up and over in order to escape that, I wonder if that's on tape.
Did you see that Billingsley tried to inbound the pass.
Johnson knocked it back to him and it's a turnover yeah so West Georgia gets the ball back 20th past and county turnover still looking to make this toss nicely nicely done by Laura Ray Robinson was tight enough for that and she managed to hang up like 1815 Houston County undefeated trying to go to seven on the year and capture the American Association of Adapted Sports Wheelchair Championship.
And I can say it looks like that Helston team is starting to want to.
They're working on the same tenaciousness on the defensive end of the ball as West Georgia's displaying all day long and helping.
They've really pulled off that West Georgia offense and West Georgia is calling time out it or they're going okay, their time out.
All right I'm not sure who called that which team I don't know that they really wanted to.
With 23.1 seconds left in the quarter.
And it looks like they did, though.
Yeah.
Here's a good example of a senior Doug Johnston up against I don't know what great star's in but obviously she's in elementary school still star Phillips and you know you see this great disparity and you think jeez how does that even work?
Well what happens is he's older coach.
These older kids on the team become almost like coaches and mentors, younger players, and they develop through the years.
And again, in ten years, we're going to be talking about stars and see who the senior standout player on this team.
Three, four, 14, 23 seconds left here in the fifth quarter past and county, about three inbound group Johnson good shot that's what they needed they needed that one basket Douglas Johnson now with nine points in the game and you remember that because can't jump the fact that the Douglas High in his chair has a long arm reach that's almost impossible to defend.
Robinson trying to get it across the time to shoot a shot and does throws that off the backboard and misses and we have completed five quarters with that day.
Let's take a look at Eugene Lane, who is beginning to heat up again here in the second half.
Here's the shot that nice Johnson pass Johnson up and good beautiful as we head into the final quarter of play.
Houston County cheerleaders there, the class five 8013 state champion cheerleading squads, house and county cheerleaders so ably giving us that added enthusiasm for today's game.
It's great to have them here.
Second half field goals.
West Georgia, two out of 12.
Houston County four out of seven Harrison County leads in rebounds, 24 to 12, Billingsley ahead to Sweeney Sweeney looking over his right shoulder fires off the rim.
No good.
Rebound up no good Johnson with the rebound for West Georgia Laura Rae he's going to pull it down and bounce and get across the timeline Johnston on the break Krystal down on the corner now covered.
Johnston down under the basket shot is up is no good and Robinson's going to come out of there with a rebound for Harleston County.
here goes Bryant again with a hard foul.
Bryan Linear loves to foul.
He's a charm.
That's his third third foul.
Had them off at the pass.
Ryan had them off at the pass.
He's fearless, the coach says, Bryan, I want you to go get that big guy.
Okay, guys.
Billingsley and Rob Pass.
Breakaway basket.
Breakaway Basket Robinson up no good Mainstream lane with the rebound and the long pass to Johnson at half court now ahead my here it comes Crystal Ivey up and no good too hard off the backboard Rueben rebound Sweeney Sweeney to Robinson A lot of traffic at midcourt Robinson trying to get it away and gets it to Billingsley a breakaway basket now coming forward Jordan Kozlowski nice boy by his first two points of the day, which is back to a three point game, Alston county up by 320 to 1750 left in the game.
This one may come down to the last possession.
There's Eugene.
Eugene right there.
The free throw line, ten, ten points for Eugene Lane.
Such a pretty shot.
Beautiful.
Got that good shooter's touch.
He does that for us.
Let's see if they can break it.
Robinson Intercepted by Eugene Lane.
Eugene going hard the other way and now going to be intercepted by Robinson.
And there's Brian Linear over there in traffic It's a nice pass a lightning move first D Here comes Jordan.
Nice open bucket Well the first foul Robinson Sweeney Good Nice shot by Jeff Sweeney It's a do over Hamels over here between Langhorne and Sweeney shooting those jumpers that's beautiful blocking foul I believe is going to be called to Jordan Kozlowski who's been devastated.
Here's a look at that last basket.
Robinson to Sweeney.
Good.
Nice little touch.
A little touch.
It's interesting you'll notice this Sweeney in and Eugene both are one arm pushers, but one is in his chair that's specially designed for one arm pushers and the other is not.
Eugene uses a regular chair, whereas Jeff Sweeney is in a one arm drive to Billingsley on the turnover.
Gets it.
I had the Robinson looking ahead to Kozlowski can't get it two or Johnson with the pressure Kozlowski can't get to it.
Kiara Miles gets it back to Robinson no good batted away and it's going to be housed and counted down at the end line.
So three point lead for the undefeated Houston County shots to Robinson up and no good Miles with the rebound back to Robinson down up and no good and Johnson comes down.
That was a passing clinic unfortunately they couldn't get the bucket at the end of it and comes west Georgia's Wolverines bounce pass to lane lamb looking for some help and finally gets it there Laura Ray Ray And the ball is going to roll out of bounds and going to be West Georgia Wolverines ball Miles coming out on her, knocking that ball away, Houston County Sharks and the West Georgia Wolverines.
And we have had a danger here.
It's been a good 1307 left in this one.
There's two lane nice rebound by Sweeney trying to tie it up No he gets it away Break away by Robinson Bryan was right down there.
that was a great bracket.
It is so hard to run that almost out of bounds and manages to put that back in.
ROBERTS Beautiful.
He's clapping for himself now.
He's happy he has a reason to.
And a five point lead for Houston County.
12 points now for Robinson, four points away from his season average.
Now, the other way, Laura, top of the key going to fire it to Johnson who's going to shoot and look good too hard Billingsley with the rebound had good position inside did Billings look ahead to miles and miles to Robinson who's in traffic back to Billingsley.
Collision between two Houston County players back to Robinson.
It's going to go out of bounds and be West Georgia's headed the other way.
You take a look at Billingsley.
He is he is very adept at the long basketball pass.
It's passes and Robinson almost almost pass the glass and manages to get that shot up really nicely.
Eugene Lane in the corner up and good shot by who was that?
Lawrence That was Bristol back with that bucket.
Yes.
Billingsley With a minute and a half to go, gets it to Robinson.
It's a three point game.
2421 Pressure by West Georgia bad out of the way and going to be picked up by Sweeney Sweeney's going to get it ahead to Kozlowski and then Johnson's going to pick it up and comes West Georgia.
Crystal Ivey shoots no good.
Lane tries to get the rebound, but Billingsley is there.
Billingsley ahead to Sweeney at the time line.
Now to Robinson, less than a minute to play Coach Arnett telling him to slow it down.
Number a minute left Lane bats it away and it's going to go out of bounds pass Bryan Linear out of Monster County.
Remember, it's a running clock here.
You don't stop the clock when it goes out of bounds.
ROBINSON Looking inside shot is not going to be taken.
And the coach is screaming, Coach Rudolph, is Georgia playing ball control at this point is housed and counted, 24 to 21 and West Georgia was was trying to save that last time out.
They knew they had that running clock.
But at this point, I think they felt like they had to stop it.
Did I tell you this has been an impressive display of athleticism by the easy answer.
These are two well-coached teams.
And these these kids love love of the game of basketball.
You can tell you're really it.
And what's great is the other aspect.
Sports that they play.
They're not just playing basketball, they're playing team handball.
They're playing wheelchair football, which is played indoors on a basketball court.
And that is a great, fun game to watch.
That's our upcoming season, love.
So they are multi sport athletes.
They're playing all skill all year long and maintaining these three O's and three fives that we're hearing about.
This is this is a student athleticism at its best.
I wonder what Coach McIntyre is saying over here on the on the sidelines, even though West Georgia, unless they really come up with a three here, it looks kind of bleak right now.
And they've got kids who can hit threes.
Yeah, that's that's not unheard of.
All right.
A question for you.
Can you foul?
Absolutely.
No, I don't think they've got anybody any real foul trouble.
I think the low Ray Rice has got four.
She's got four.
So she can't be the one to go.
That's true, because she's out on five.
Well, it's just the regular ball West Georgia's ball into Eugene Lane who would have been my choice to take the final shot.
Yeah 20 seconds left and Robinson's going to knock it out of bounds unless Georgia restored remains in possession.
But that's a running clock.
We're down to 10 seconds right.
Laura Ray on the sideline is going to try to trigger it in and get it to Johnson.
Second shot, 5 seconds.
He knows what the clock says.
Shot up and no good job.
The three pointer he did, he really did.
That's a shame because I got just a little bit closer to have a little better shot of making that man Leslie Sweat like it's been a good time, but a pleasure.
Thank you, David.
It's been a good game.
Thanks for the Braxton Robinson.
Charleston County wins.
It remains undefeated at seven on the first time ever state championship for varsity for Harleston County for their program.
A great win.
All right.
We'll be back with the trophy presentation in just a minute.
Our final score here, Harleston County, 24, West Georgia, 21.
We'll be back for the presentation of the championship trophy in just a moment.
well, it's a final 2421 Harleston County remains undefeated 7.0 on the year grade.
Sure to, West Georgia falls to two and five on the year, but they are the runner up and they have been presented The runner up trophy, Tommy Storms is presenting the trophy to the Houston County Sharks, who are undefeated in seven state championship and wheelchair basketball powerhouse county Sharks.
I know are really, really proud of that.
They have worked hard this season, right?
This place over here, we go to the Austin County Sharks past and county Sharks being presented the trophy, a great effort, a great effort by both teams.
This has been an enjoyable takes.
This young man on camera right now with the basketball in his lap.
Ben is he looks young.
He's actually a senior I believe.
And it has been his dream to play in this coliseum and he has played his play.
Dr. Swearengen presented the trophy.
And what a what a great atmosphere.
The AA, SB 2000 state champions, Houston County.
Leslie, it's been a great time.
Enjoyed playing with you today.
Right?
All right.
Leslie Sweatband, nice to have you with us.
This is Tommy Vollmer.
Thanks for being with us for the AA SB Wheelchair Championship from Macon Center Blaze, thanks for being with us.
Hope to see you again next year for another one of these great games.
