[ Dance music plays ] ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ Dana: Welcome to the 2024 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.
I'm Andrea Dana, the executive director of the Iowa State Dance and Drill Team Association.
For nearly 50 years, Iowa's top young dance athletes have been showcasing their best at this competition.
Every year, the skill level increases, adding to the excitement on the performance floor.
Horton: Nearly 5,000 dancers will showcase their talent in this year's state championships.
I'm Stacie Horton, board president of the ISDTA.
Competing in Des Moines for three days of competition were an astounding 250 high school and 25 college teams.
Enyart: Every dance athlete on every team has dedicated countless hours to perfecting creative performances.
I'm event announcer Scott Enyart.
Here now are highlights of all the winning routines and the busy backstage action in this exclusive presentation of the 2024 Iowa State Dance Team Championships.
[ "Dynamite" plays ] We begin the show with Bishop Garrigan, the champions in Class I Pom.
Second place was West Bend-Mallard.
Storm Lake St. Mary's came in third.
Fourth place was Harris-Lake Park, and in fifth place was Glidden-Ralston.
Dana: Our Pom category is the most popular at our championships.
We had a record numberof 172 routines, which gave us the first-ever year of 15 classes of Pom.
Normally we only have 14.
Horton: You can see here with our team performing now smaller group, but, boy, are they powerful, nice and clean, great formation changes, nice angles, crisp.
[ Indistinct singing ] ♪♪ I like that they chose two different colors of poms.
You don't have to do that, but it really adds to the visuals of their routine.
[ Indistinct singing ] ♪♪ ♪♪ Great job, Bishop Garrigan.
♪ Blow that whistle ♪ Enyart: The Class II Pom champion is Springville.
Second place was Lone Tree.
Kingsley-Pierson placed third.
Fourth place was Boyer Valley, and in fifth place was Calamus-Wheatland.
[ Marching band music plays ] You'll see we're in a different venue here.
This is Hy-Vee Hall, our second performance venue.
You can see with Springville here that they've chosen a marching band theme, both with their costuming and their music, really lending itself to hitting those pom motions much stronger.
Very original, unique choice.
♪♪ Here you can see those crisp movements.
[ Whistle blowing along with music ] Great musicality with the whistle.
♪♪ [ Shouting indistinctly ] Adding those vocalsin there to help each other hiteven stronger.
♪♪ [ Shouting indistinctly ] ♪♪ ♪ I got your number on the wall ♪ Enyart: Up next is North-Linn, the champion in Class III Pom.
Second place was Woodbury Central.
Third place was St. Albert.
Montezuma placed fourth, and Baxter came in fifth.
[ "Payphone" plays ] I love this close-up shot.
You can see their showmanship and energy and expressions on their face, which really make the performance what it is.
Those judges are close enough to see all of that.
North-Linn's alreadyintroduced a couple differentformations.
They're really moving throughout that floor, using that competition space well.
♪♪ Among our high school teams, our class sizes are determined by school enrollment numbers and not by team size, allowing our teams to compete against similar-size schools.
So Class I is our smallest schools in the state.
Class XV are the largest.

[ "A Sky Full of Stars" plays ] Enyart: We move back from Wells Fargo Arena to Hy-Vee Hall with our champion in Class IV Pom.
This is Newman Catholic.
Second place was Mount Ayr.
Third place was North Cedar.
Akron-Westfield came in fourth, and AGWSR placed fifth.
I give a lot of props to Newman Catholic with this unique music choice.
I love this song, but there's nothing hard-hitting about it, which is what you would normally hear in a pom routine.
So they're workingextra hard to make this a crisp, clean pom routine.
And I love that they're hitting the dynamics with aerials and other choreography moves.
♪ I don't care if you do ♪ Enyart: It is just really unique to have a soft-sounding, hard-hitting pom routine here.
♪ 'Cause in a sky, 'cause in a sky full of stars ♪ ♪ I think I saw you ♪ Really overexaggerating those levels, those high V's and low V's with the shaking of the palms.
♪♪ ♪♪ [ Dance music mash-up plays ] Enyart: In Class V Pom, our champion was West Fork.
Second place was Lisbon.
Westwood placed third.
Nodaway Valley placed fourth, and in fifth place was Tri-Center.
♪ Tonight's gonna be a good night ♪ I really appreciate all the formation changes West Fork is using, specifically those diagonal lines.
That really shows great difficulty in keeping those linesjust right.
♪ You can't even handle me right now ♪ ♪ Watchin' you watchin' me I go all out ♪ ♪ Didn't you get the memo?
♪ Nice little highlight there and tempo change.
♪ Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey ♪ ♪ I don't care what these chicks say ♪ ♪ I don't even look that way ♪ Again with their formation, love the offset on the other sideof the court.
♪ We don't even have to try, it's always a good time ♪ ♪ Whoa-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh ♪ ♪ Whoa-oh-oh-oh, it's always a good time ♪ ♪ Whoa-oh-oh-oh ♪ They're really playing on those accents in the song, too.

[ Hip-hop music plays ] Enyart: We now move into the Hip Hop Division with our Class I champion, Springville.
Second place was Ar-We-Va. Third place was Audubon.
East Mills came in fourth, and in fifth place was Central City.
Hip Hop continues to be a very popular category, and it is continuing to grow.
This year we had 104 routines.
This team has chosen a themefor their hip hop.
Hip Hop features wide pliés,nice wide stances, hard-hitting movements, very aggressive motions, and they're doing a great job with this.
♪ Kitty cat meow meow meow meow meow ♪ Enyart: Really nice feature here.
That's pretty fun.
♪ So I can get busy just one more time ♪ ♪ To the [coughs] let me clear my throat ♪ ♪♪ ♪ Hello Kitty, Hello Kitty ♪ Oh, their hands have paws!
I just noticed that.
That is super creative.
♪♪ [ Cat meows ] ♪ Turn it up ♪ Enyart: In Class II Hip Hop, our champion was Newman Catholic.
Second place was Montezuma.
Baxter came in third.
In fourth place was Graettinger- Terril-Ruthven Ayrshire, and in fifth place was AGWSR.
Really strong opening with a lot of formation changes, head springs, and this fast arm work is really cool.
I really enjoyed their music selection, too.
Lots of different popular songs all meshed together.
♪ Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it ♪ ♪ Down, down, down, down ♪ ♪ Girl, girl, girl ♪ Nice trick.
Won't stop Go shorty, it's your birthday ♪ Boom, badoom, boom, boom, badoom, boom ♪ Nice wide stances.
♪♪ ♪ Music make you lose control ♪ ♪ Here we go now, here we go now ♪ ♪ Music make you lose control ♪ ♪ Now stop ♪ ♪ Every day I'm shufflin' ♪ ♪♪ Their choreography plays really well with the differenttempo changes throughout their routine as well.
♪ Please don't stop the music ♪ Awesome job.
♪ Let's get it on, bring it ♪ Enyart: West Fork certainly brought it as they earned the championship in Class III Hip Hop.
Second place was North Union.
Third place -- Westwood.
Akron-Westfield came in fourth, and Maquoketa Valley placed fifth.
What a fun "Bring It On" theme, huh?
Got a little cheer battle going on here.
♪ Anything, any-anything, yeah ♪ ♪ Anything, any-anything ♪ And they are owning every single move and giving it their all.
It is such a cool routine, and even though they have two different costumes, it actually adds a lot of variety to the visuals that they can play with in formations and choreography.
I was just gonna comment on the difficulty of thatas well, Andrea.
Making sure that those formations are even with all of the different costuming is very challenging, but it's seamless here.
♪♪ ♪ This is a hot girl PSA ♪ ♪ Do I have your attention?
♪ ♪ Three, two, crunch ♪ ♪♪ ♪ Let's go ♪ ♪ Bass down low, bass, bass down low ♪ Enyart: Up next we have the champions in Class IV Hip Hop, Waterloo Columbus Catholic.
Second place was West Central Valley.
Third place -- Cascade.
Fourth place was Missouri Valley, and Alburnett placed fifth.
This routine had me at hello, [laughs] for real.
I'm just in wow.
♪ Failure, I forget their names now ♪ ♪ I'm so very tame now ♪ It's so hard-hittingand powerful.
♪ I-I-I see how this is gonna go ♪ ♪ No one has to know, in the middle ♪ Enyart: Waterloo Columbus Catholic earned a Judges' Choice Award for this innovative routine.
♪ I know I'm gonna be with you so I'll take my time ♪ ♪ Are you ready for it?
♪ Enyart: Really quick, smooth transitions.
Very difficult section here.
And the athleticismthat it takes to pull those combinations off is really hard.
♪♪ They make it lookpretty easy.
♪ I-I-I see ♪ No doubt this team's put a lot of hours into perfecting this routine.
[ Cheers and applause ] ♪ In the middle of the night ♪ In my dreams, my dreams ♪ I know I'm gonna be with you so I'll take my time ♪ Enyart: We now move into the Color Guard category with our Class I champion, Aplington-Parkersburg.
Second place was Roland-Story.
IKM-Manning placed third.
We had a tie for fourth between Garner-Hayfield/Ventura and Louisa-Muscatine.
And Pleasantville placed fifth.
♪ One is the loneliest number that you'll ever do ♪ They've chosen a very powerful piece of music, and you hear some of those dramatic pauses in there.
That really takes concentration on these athletes' parts to be able to complete these motions.
♪♪ Enyart: Great example right there.
♪♪ New this year, we had Color Guard compete on its own day, the first day of competition, Wednesday.
♪ 'Cause one is the loneliest number ♪ These large silks were a wow factor.
In person, up close, I was like, "Wow!
Those are gorgeous!"
♪ Ever do ♪ ♪ That you'll ever do ♪ ♪♪ Enyart: The champion in Class II Color Guard was Creston.
Second place was Glenwood.
Third place -- North Polk.
And Oskaloosa placed fourth.
♪ Sweet dreams are made of this ♪ ♪ Who am I to disagree?
♪ You'll see here Creston has chosen to have a floor covering, which is completely optional.
It enhances their production.
In this case, they're carrying out the theme of dreams.

♪Incredible unison here.
♪ I travel the world and the seven seas ♪ ♪ Everybody's looking for something ♪ Enyart: Man, the difficulty of those flag tosses and to catch those right on beat -- amazing.
And in the back, you can see they're working with a large dreamcatcher, which I thought was a really great accent.
And in the Color Guardcategory, you can incorporate different pieces of equipment.
As you can see here, they've incorporated rifles.
♪ Some of them want to use you ♪ Enyart: Up next is one of our Judges' Choice Award winners in Color Guard.
This is Glenwood.
[ "From Now On" plays ] ♪ But tones were someone else's dreams ♪ ♪ The pitfalls of the man I became ♪ Across the three days, we gave eight high school Judges' Choice Awards, and this award is based on nominations from our judges for routines that stood out to them.
It's a coveted award teams anticipate each year that we give during the awards ceremonies.
And you can see here it does not have to be a first-place routine.
♪ And from now on ♪ ♪ These eyes will not be blinded by the lights ♪ ♪♪ I'm so impressed with Glenwood and how every manipulation of the flag is just absolutelyseamless.
Enyart: Our champion in Class III Color Guard was Dubuque Senior.
Second place was Ankeny Centennial.
Third place -- Marshalltown.
And Indianola placed fourth.
[ Instrumental "Eleanor Rigby" plays ] ♪♪ ♪♪ That piece of that powerfulmusic right there was one of my favorite parts of this routine.
♪ Ah, look at all the lonely people ♪ Wow.
♪ Eleanor Rigby ♪ ♪ Picks up the rice in the church where the... ♪ Enyart: I like the subtle use of the light...
Yes.
...throughout this routine.
Love the angles that they have as well.
♪ Wearing the face that she keeps in a jar by the door ♪ ♪ Who is it for?
♪ ♪ All the lonely people ♪ ♪ Where do they all belong?
♪ Nice job, Dubuque Senior.
♪♪ [ "Li'l Red Riding Hood" plays ] Enyart: Ankeny Centennial earned a Judges' Choice Award with this creative Red Riding Hood-themed routine.
♪ Sure are looking good ♪ ♪ You're everything a Big Bad Wolf could want ♪ The costuming for this routine stands out so much to me.
That red velvet and the dramatic lulls in the music and accents throughout the music just, it all fits together so well.
♪ Go walkin' in these spooky ol' woods alone ♪ ♪♪ All of their moves are with great intention, and I love it.
♪ The kind of eyes that drive wolves mad ♪ [ "Womanizer" plays ] Enyart: We now move into the Jazz category with our Class I champion, Lone Tree.
Second place was North-Linn.
Riverside placed third.
Ar-We-Va came in fourth, and in fifth place was Woodbury Central.
This year we had 75 jazz routines, and here we're seeingClass I.
And again, that is our smallest school enrollments.
Jazz is really that combination of stylized and rhythmic movement, and they're doing a really great job of that here into a nice, pretty lift.
♪ Oh, you're a womanizer, baby ♪ ♪ You, you, you are ♪ ♪ You, you, you are a womanizer, womanizer ♪ You'll even notice that in jazz transitions, even the transitions are more stylized.

Second place was Iowa City Regina.
Third place -- Panorama.
Central Lyon placed fourth, and Akron-Westfield placed fifth.
What a fun, upbeat routine this is.
Love the nice hot-pinkcostuming here, and I especially lovethe sass that this team brings with their motions, but also their facial expressions.
♪♪ This is what I callsassy jazz.
♪ Going to the lights out ♪ ♪ Tell me, are you ready?
♪ ♪ Ready, ready right now ♪ ♪ Ready, ready ♪ ♪ Ready right now ♪ ♪ Gonna make a scene ♪ ♪ Strike like lightning ♪ ♪ You know what I mean ♪ They're showing a nice variety of technique, levels in the choreography, and a lot of formation changes.
And their gloves accent the routine.
♪ Ready, ready right now ♪ ♪ Tell me, are you ready?
♪ ♪ Ready, ready right now ♪ ♪ Keeping it steady ♪ ♪ Going to the lights out ♪ ♪ Tell me, are you ready?
♪ ♪ Ready, ready right now ♪ [ "Sunglasses at Night" plays ] Enyart: Our champion in Class III Jazz was Kuemper Catholic.
Second place was Mid-Prairie.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed third.
In fourth place was Odebolt Arthur Battle Creek Ida Grove, and in fifth place was Ridge View.

♪ The guy in shades, oh, no ♪ And Kemper has a lot of dancers out there.
It's really impressive to be able to put that many dancers on the floor and have that level of technique and pull off such a wonderful routine.
♪ I wear my sunglasses at night ♪ ♪♪ [ "I Want It That Way" plays ] Enyart: North Mahaska earned first place in Class I Co-ed.
Second place was Creston.
Man: This group is very popular with young girls.
♪♪ In our Co-ed category, it's all about partner dancing, and North Mahaska does a really nice job with this.
I did have the opportunityto see these guys backstage before they went on, and I was like, "Oh, what boy band are we?"
And they all said, "We're all of them."
They were so funny.
♪ Follow you until you love me ♪ ♪ Papa-Paparazzi ♪ ♪ Baby, there's no other superstar ♪ ♪ You know that I'll be ♪ ♪ Your papa-paparazzi ♪ You know, a lot of these kids are involved in several different activities in their schools.
And to get them all together to practice to get a routine perfected like this is a real challenge.
Kudos to them.
Enyart: And in a small school like North Mahaska, you've got volleyball players and cheerleaders, you've got football players, basketball players, wrestlers, you name it.
And it's fun for them to get involved with the dance team as well.
♪ The boys in the band ♪ [ "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" plays ] Enyart: Davenport Central placed first in Class II Co-ed, with Oskaloosa placing second.
And when he plays boogie woogie bugle ♪ He was busy as a bzzz bee ♪ I was so impressed with the number of dancers on the floor with this routine.
I love the color.The muted green and that burgundy look so nice together.
Enyart: I love the "Bugle Boy" theme, too.
Absolutely.
It is adorable.
So well executed.
And it looks like they're all having a lot of fun.
How do you not have fun with an upbeat piece of music like this?
But it brings a little history and nostalgia into the competition as well.
♪ He puts the boys asleep with boogie every night ♪ ♪ And wakes 'em up the same way in the early bright ♪ ♪ They clap their hands and stamp their feet ♪ ♪ Because they know how he goes when someone gives him a beat ♪ I love how the Co-ed category really gets to incorporate boys from the school that maybe aren't on the normal dance team.
♪ He can't blow a note unless the bass and guitar ♪ ♪ Is playin' with him ♪ ♪ And the company jumps when he plays reveille ♪ ♪ He's the boogie woogie bugle boy of Company B ♪ ♪♪ [ "The Joker" plays ] Enyart: And our All-Male Dance champion was Davenport Central.
♪ Forget all the lies and the rumors ♪ ♪ Haters mad 'cause... ♪ The All-Male category is a fan favorite.
It is so fun to watch, and these boys can dance.
♪ Game is like BK 'cause I get it my way ♪ Enyart: Great hip-hop performance, great choreography and execution throughout.
One thing I love about the All-Male performance is that they're truly dancing authentically.
You can tell they're having a really good time.
They may be a little nervous, but you'd never guess it from watching them.
♪ But this ain't no joke now ♪ ♪ Try to battle me and we'll see how it goes ♪ [ Indistinct singing ] ♪♪ ♪♪ They have some nice tempo changes here, and everybody is sticking with it.
♪ I be like, ayy baby, toot that whoa-whoa ♪ ♪ Now wobble, wobble, to the floor ♪ You can just see on their faces how much fun they're having.
♪ Bring it back-back-back-back-back ♪ [ Down-tempo music plays ] Dana: ISDTA hosts a solo competition each year, and this allows individuals from dance and color guard teams to compete at the solo level.
♪♪ I'm proud to say that for our nearly 50 years as an organization, we have provided this opportunity to have a solo competition.
But in the past five years, it is astounding how large this competition has grown.
Five years ago, we had a little over 600 competitors, and this year we had an astounding 970 soloists.
[ Cheers and applause ] Because of the massive growth, we are now doing a qualifying event for solos.
We're in Nevada, we're in Newton, and we have six performance areas going simultaneously.
♪♪ We have two classes of color guard competing and 12 dance classes.
♪♪ The top 10 finalists from each class advanced on to the state championships in Des Moines.
♪♪ I am so proud of all of these athletes, soloists, and teams.
They are growing this sport, and it makes us proud.
It makes me proud.
♪♪ These dancers are setting the stage for future dancers.
[ "Elastic Heart" plays ] Enyart: Our Class I Color Guard Solo champion from Creston was Alyssa Gerdes.
♪♪ ♪ I'm still fighting for peace ♪ ♪ I've got thick skin and an elastic heart ♪ ♪ But your blade, it might be too sharp ♪ ♪ I'm like a rubber band until you pull too hard ♪ Enyart: And our Class II Color Guard Solo champion was Will Getter from Glenwood.
[ Music from "Swan Lake" plays ] ♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ [ "Rock'n Me" plays ] Enyart: And now we move back to the team competition with Cascade, the champions in Class VI Pom.
Second place was Waterloo Columbus Catholic.
Manson Northwest Webster placed third.
Iowa City Regina came in fourth.
And our fifth place team was Missouri Valley.
♪ Rock'n me, baby ♪ ♪♪ Love to see how they're showcasing individual dancers with the aerial behind the one line and a leap over on the left just really playing on their strengths.
Dana: This screams fun.
The music, the energy, the choreography.
They are just killing it out there.
♪ Lord, I'm comin' home to you ♪ How cute is this?
♪ Two American kids doing the best they can ♪ ♪ Oh, yeah, they say life goes on ♪ ♪ Long after the thrill of living is gone ♪ ♪♪ ♪ Oh, let it rock, let it roll ♪ ♪ Let the Bible Belt come and save my soul ♪ They do a great job of using the performance floor.
And, actually, it looks like there's a lot more than six.
And six is the minimumyou can have on the floor for a team.
Enyart: And we move from Wells Fargo Arena back over to Hy-Vee Hall with our Class VII Pom champion, West Central Valley.
Second place was East Sac County Third place -- Alburnett.
Underwood placed fourth, and Pella Christian came in fifth.
Really love the silver poms against these purple costumes.
Lots of kids on the floor.
Lots of ripples happening.
Very busy routine,but very clean.
Very sharp.
♪ Ready, ready, ready, ready ♪ ♪ Ready, ready, ready, ready ♪ Enyart: I love the pom moves during the transitions as well.
[ "Get Ready" plays ] ♪ Get ready 'cause here I come ♪ ♪ I'm on my way ♪ ♪ Get ready 'cause here I come ♪ ♪ Hear what I'm saying ♪ ♪ Get ready 'cause here I come ♪ ♪ Get ready 'cause here I come ♪ ♪♪ Enyart: They are just constantly moving throughout this routine, whether it's their feet, their arms, their transitions.
Very visually appealing.
♪♪ ♪ All over the place doing the thing that you're gonna do ♪ Enyart: Up next is Monticello, the champions in Class VIII Pom.
Second place was Eagle Grove.
Third place -- Central Lee.
Tipton placed fourth, and North Fayette Valley placed fifth.
♪ Cryin' all the time ♪ ♪ Well, you ain't never caught a rabbit ♪ ♪ You ain't no friend of mine ♪ Love the clean visualof the red poms and the white costume.
Of course, I love the Elvis theme.

Hoopla is unique to Iowa, and we have an entire category dedicated to Hoopla routines.
[ "Rain on Me" plays ] This is so colorfuland bright and also difficult.
Manson here has different sizes, different colors, different-sided hooplas, and just think about it as a pom routine, but they're dancingwith hoops, so it takes a lot of practice and precision, and they're doinga great job.

There's a lot of intricate choreography throughout, and that takes an immense amount of practice and teamwork to get that the way that it is right now.

Just when I thinkwe've seen every possible Novelty theme... Pleasantville goes and finds a new one.
And then there's Sasquatch.
[ "I Wanna Rock" plays ] ♪ I wanna rock ♪ The choreography is brilliant, quite honestly, because every time we see Sasquatch as a spectator, the dancers don't.
And then it hides and the dancers are looking and can't find him!

Second place was Manson Northwest Webster, and West Bend-Mallard came in third.
In our military category, it is all about precision, whether it's the formations, the movements, the transitions.
Everything from hands, heads, toes, legs, all precise.
And MFL is doing a wonderful job.
[ "Call Me" plays ] ♪♪ I'm amazed that the motionslook so effortless in their militarylike this.
♪♪ ♪♪ ♪♪ Pella earned top honors in Class II Military.
Williamsburg placed second, and Glenwood came in third.
Pella also earned a Judges' Choice Award for this intense and difficult routine.
♪♪ Pella really takes military to a different level.
The number of athletes they have out on the floor makes it even more difficult.
They are strong in every single movement, and the difficulty that they put in here, with headstands and balancing, is incredibly impressive.
When you watch this military routine, it truly is like you're looking at a picture.
They are all so precise, you can look anywhere, and everybody is spot-on with every motion.

They nailed those headstands.
♪♪ And their costumes have such a unique visual, with the different colors and the placement of the colors on their arms and legs.
[ "You're The One That I Want" plays ] We now move into the Kick category with our Class I champion, Iowa Falls-Alden.
Second place was Eagle Grove.
We had a tie for third between Lisbon and Central Lee.
Fourth place was Wilton, and fifth place was Tipton.
There's so much endurance required in this category.
You've got to be so strong.
♪ You're the one that I want ♪ Enyart: You have to have the stamina to be able to keep up with this fast-paced routine, as well.
I'm impressed withIowa Falls-Alden in this routine.
There are only six of them out there, and they have variety.
They use the floor, and they just fill the space.
And it's so entertaining and clean and precise.
And of course, it was a huge crowd favorite with the theme.

The Judges' Choice Awards went home on Wednesday to Ankeny Centennial Color Guard and Glenwood's Color Guard.
On Thursday, we recognized Waterloo Columbus Catholic, Pleasantville, and Panorama.
And on Friday, our Judges' Choice Awards went home with Muscatine, Newton, and Pella.

They come out and attack every single motion.
Very creative.
Their timing is impeccable.

Their technique is top-notch.
♪ 'Cause it leads me to the light ♪ The training and conditioning that goes into a college team like this, you're just seeing a pieceof what it's like to dance on a college team.
There's so much behind the scene that happens that brings this out on the performance floor.

♪♪ It's so impressive to see an entire team do all of the difficult elements together, rather than pulling out highlights here and there.
St. Ambrose is so strong, and all of these dancers can do all of these advanced elements.
Very strong team.

There's one thing I notice about these larger universities when they dance, and it's the way they carry themselves, right?
They open up those shoulders and lift those chins, and the confidencejust exudes.
There's so many layers within this choreography.

[ Up-tempo music plays indistinctly ] The difficulty this takes to get all of those team turns spot-on like that -- this music is much faster, harder to keep up with, but they're attacking it and they're letting that music drive their performance.

Many times, schools choose to wear something simpler for hip hop because the moves are so intricate and detailed.
It just makes cleaner lines for everything.
