Another great matchup here.
Inside the dome.
You can see there just a gorgeous sight looking outside.
A pretty nice day.
Almost 60 degrees outside.
Calvary Day versus Hebron Christian.
This is the division championship.
A three a Cavaliers out of region three, 12-1 The Lyons champions from last year in the states, 11-1 coming out of region eight.
As we begin here, back with you once again, Larry Smith, my partner Sam Crenshaw, one more time.
We talked about this game.
It's a unique matchup in that both head coaches are in their first year with their respective programs.
Absolutely.
They're both first year.
And to get to the championship game in your very first year as accomplishment.
But for one coach, he's been down this road a few times before, right.
We talk about Ken Dallas.
That's right.
Yeah.
Kenny Dallas we'll talk about him.
Just unusual.
We've seen him at Landmark or Trinity assisted at Alcoa and now he's at Hebron.
We'll have his story as we continue.
And then also over Calvary Day as well.
Jason Cameron.
Let's talk first here about the quarterbacks.
And, you know, Calvary Day is somewhat 16 straight playoff appearances, but now they weren't supposed to be here.
They had to upset number 1 seed Fellowship Christian in the semifinals, but they got it done behind their quarterback.
Great quarterback great put up great numbers all season long.
Talking about James Mobley you got a look at him right there.
And he's a guy that makes things go for them.
Great junior quarterback.
Big yardage during the course of the season 27 touchdowns.
He's thrown lefty.
Watch out for this guy today.
He's going to make some things happen.
Yeah great player for them.
Meanwhile for Hebron Christian very unique as well.
They play two quarterbacks.
At least we'll see under center today.
We will see two at least once or twice throughout the game.
That's what got them here.
They're going to stick with it in the championship game.
Won't be changing.
Take a look at the guys you're going to watch for there on the field.
Early today we're going to talk about Jordan Green.
He's wearing number 9 when he comes out there.
And then number 10 that's Gray Costello Jordan will probably start the game there.
You see him number 9 getting stopped by the third series.
Look for Gray to step in and be a contributor as well.
So we look for both of these guys.
They've gotten them to the big game.
They're going to stick with what got you here.
That's right.
Yeah.
Both teams now on the field.
Also on the field is the third member of our broadcast team Madison Cruz.
Let's go down to her Maddie.
Good afternoon.
Good afternoon guys.
It's the first ever meeting between Calvary Day and Hebron Christian.
But guys, the stakes could not be higher for both of these programs.
Let's go for Calvary Day underneath.
Head coach Jason Cameron, no stranger to the Cavaliers.
He was the offensive coordinator for two years under legendary head coach in Mark Stroud, who's also walking around on the touchline here today.
Soloman just a little bit before we get things rolling here at the Benz and on the other side, we have Hebron Christian, also a new head coach, but someone who's no stranger to state titles in Kenny Dallas.
He helped build that Trinity Christian program from the ground up into the powerhouse that it is today.
Guys, two different paths, but it's one destination today here under the lights at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
One of them will be crowned the victor once again.
Maddie.
Great stuff there.
Take a look here at Kenny Dallas.
We talked about again the programs he's built before and the story here, following his friend Jonathan.
Guess they're up at Adrian Christian on the other side.
Meanwhile, taking a look at Jason Cameron, his first season 12-1 here for the Cavaliers.
Previously head coach at Alijah was the coach in waiting up there for a moment, but again, now it's his crew.
He's got him in the championship game here.
As we get ready for the opening kickoff.
Brought to you by Heads Up, Georgia Parker your phone while driving saves lives and we are about to get underway right here.
This is Calvary Day kicking off.
Three Hebron Christian and we are underway.
Ball taken there by Tanner Bowen wide receiver.
Good return by Bowen before he's brought down.
On the other side by Calvary Day and we're off and running.
To get things started.
We're going to get a look at Mr.
Mobley to get things started in this game.
Look at him first.
He leads this offense over 2,500 yards in passing this season.
At least an offensive attack that's very versatile.
You've got some good running backs.
You got very productive wide receiver in Knight.
And then you get a look at him there as he gets ready to get things started.
And stopped.
By the way was by Barrett Greene the freshman linebacker.
Hebron Christian.
Good look at James Mobley.
We talked about him at the top.
The junior quarterback 58, leading the offense out on the field beginning first and ten at the 25 yard line.
Handoff.
And gang tackled.
And a little push from one of the linemen right there.
We see you 63 as the center Carson Dean doing a little push.
That's right.
Starting lineups delivered by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria for Calvary Day on the offensive line.
Keefer Terry Dean Swindell and Bentley Knight Hicks Pinckney Jake Jones and Middleton.
Second down now brought down very quickly.
That's Emerson Lewis.
For Calvary Day and brought down by Max Steve.
We'll call his name quite a bit today.
One of the star players for these Lions.
There you see the toss.
Nice.
Stop there by Steve solo.
Stop a couple of short runs.
Third and six.
Now.
By the way, first ever meeting between these two.
They have never played before.
Again.
Tug with the uniqueness of this game, quick pass out on the slant.
Can't get anywhere.
Swarm tackle Steve is there again to stop Ty Pinckney couldn't go very far and so third down doesn't come up.
It comes up short for Calvary Day.
Once again, our starting lineups delivered by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria.
Becker, Moses and Woods up front for the Hebron Christian Lyons Bennett Wilhelm Mostiler and Morris and your backfield for the Lions Goley Steve Bowen and Hardy.
So fourth down now and a high snap.
Oh.
Trying to recover.
He's at the end zone.
Got to get out of there.
And he barely does at the 1 yard line.
So Mobley also the punter for Calvary Day the high snap.
And what a way to start this game.
If you're Hebron Christian you're going to get the ball first down and goal on the one.
You don't want to miscue.
You have to make a decision right now.
You're going to fall on it.
You're going to kick it through the back of the end zone, and you're going to pick it up and you're going to lean it out, stick it out over the line.
Yeah.
The presence of mind to do that, to avoid the safety watch him surrounded by defenders.
And he just sticks the ball out there over the line.
That was a smart move as he saw he wasn't going to get anywhere.
Be able to get out of there.
At least keep it out of the end zone if nothing else.
And he did that much.
But boy, the table is set for Hebron Christian here in that very first touch.
Huge break.
They come out actually in the Wildcat here on first and ten.
And going in for the touchdown just like that.
Devon Caldwell the running back one play, one score for Hebron Christian.
Wow.
But the shortest drive we're going to see probably all week here.
Yes.
Out of that miscue right 1 yard touchdown.
You give it to Caldwell.
He's had a productive season.
Leads on the field big in the classroom I think we got a 4.4 GPA.
Yeah yeah bound for Mercer.
Very impressive.
No goal for two.
And they get that in Steve takes it in.
So how about that.
We talked about that.
You're going to have this quarterback in and that quarterback in.
No quarterback yet on the field.
No quarterback is touching the ball yet right.
We talked about which one we're going to see.
We're going to have to wait.
That's going to be delayed.
Here's a two point conversion Max Steve getting it in there.
Just like that.
It's 8-0 Hebron.
Wow.
What a start for Kenny Dallas Krew.
Scoring drive pretty easy.
Brought to you by DBHDD and the new Red ribbon.
365 curriculum.
And Sam, as you talked about, but easy as it gets.
One play, 1 yard, 5 seconds.
And just like that.
Man.
Lions are on top.
What a way to start this game.
You definitely don't want things to happen as far as a miscue, if you if you Calvary Day.
And now the one thing you have to do is settle this team down.
You know you're in here, you're the bright lights, you're in this big different type of environment.
You still got a whole lot of football to play.
And that's the thing.
The coach, all the coaching staff right now saying, hey guys, you know, keep it calm.
There's still a lot of football.
We've just got started in this game.
Let's go out and play clean.
Play smart, get back into the game.
Get back in this game.
That's right.
Yeah it happened.
It's done.
Now you're just behind the eight ball.
But now you can move forward from here.
No question about that.
Second kickoff goes into the end zone and they will take it out to the 20 yard line.
No return this time.
Shawn Williams.
Okay, so a crazy start to the game.
We will.
Let's settle in for some football.
Now let's take a look at our impact players, brought to you by Breda Pest Management, the official pest control of high school football.
Sam, who makes an impact when Calvary Day has the ball.
Watch out for Jaylen Hicks outstanding wide receiver for them.
And Caden Jones has had an outstanding season, almost 800 yards and 17 touchdowns.
He scored on the defensive side.
You saw Max Steve there scoring the point after.
But he's also a great safety.
And watch what Jai'lil Goley also in the secondary.
Got a whistle here.
Whistle already.
That was Perry in motion.
False starts against Calvary Day.
Maybe some jitters here to start this championship.
Special teams miscue.
And you know you want to see if that team is going to settle down.
And they come out.
We have a false start offense five yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
Mike Minier is our referee and we say thank you to all the game officials.
Not just today, not just this week, but all through the season and all the sports.
We can't do this without all of you.
So we again we say thank you and thank you again.
First and 15.
That's Pinckney in.
Motion.
Doesn't get far.
Steve is there again along with Tanner Bowen.
Gain of 1 second and 14.
Now for this Calvary Day team that we talked about again, we'll take a look at Kenny Dallas Hebron Christian coach and what he's done here is Calvary Day team again upsetting their way here when it's supposed to be fellowship.
Christian.
They kept running into other teams, thought this was their year.
Surprised by Calvary Day.
They earned their way here.
They got by fellowship.
Got another whistle here.
They got another presnap penalty.
Boy, those things are are happening for this team.
Early in this game.
We have seen our share of these.
This week.
We have false start offense, five yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
Okay.
So penalties again really causing some problems here.
There's a look at your offensive line.
Those guys can clean some things up.
And and execute.
Jason Cameron second and 19.
Now.
Now the flat trying to get it to some guy in space.
Jalen Hicks.
And he's not going anywhere.
Hebron Christian defense fast.
And boy, they did a good job of spreading this out.
They weren't fooled at all.
Not fooled at all.
Watching for that play.
Big play there.
Masen Hardy for first one to the ball.
Yeah.
Pinckney number 4 for Calvary Day kind of missed the block there and that freed up Hardy senior defensive back.
And so with his third and forever third and 23 right now for Calvary Day, they got to get all the way out to the 30 for a first down.
Mobley complete knee went down.
Couldn't quite get away from the defender there.
That's M.J.
On the catch.
Short gain on third down.
It brings up the punt.
Team Knight's been the most productive receiver this season.
Grady is able to connect with his top receiver.
Just needed more yards.
And now comes that long snap.
Lyons.
Got a whistle because somebody flinched up front.
Kolb.
We saw this in our game on Monday.
Lincoln County had three consecutive false start penalties that really cost them the end of the second quarter.
Mike Manier has been busy.
Yes, he has.
Prior to the snap, we have encroachment defense.
Five yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
All right.
On who man.
Hey.
Five yard penalty.
Okay so fourth and ten now Mobley to punt.
Jarvis Mathurin Jarvis Mathurin and Devon Caldwell are back for Hebron Christian.
Left footer gets it away.
It's a short punt.
Gets a good roll for Calvary Day.
A great role for Calvary Day all the way down to the 35 yard line.
Very nice.
All right, we will take a time-out here.
The private class A championship is underway.
It's been Hebron Christian so far.
They got a gift.
Can they make it on their own this time?
We'll see how their offense does.
First time on the field after this.
Football Fridays in Georgia is presented by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, reminding you to park your phone while driving.
Saves lives.
Heads up, Georgia.
You wouldn't take a call during the big game.
Oh, hey what's up man?
You wouldn't be texting while cheering on your team.
Jacket.
And you definitely wouldn't want to watch a video while marching with the band.
So why would you drive a car while distracted driving isn't a game when you lose on the road, it could lead to a crash.
So when you get behind the wheel, put the distractions aside, drive hands free, and save lives.
Heads up Georgia.

Com.
Back here inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
If you're just joining us a bad snap on the punt in the first series by Calvary Day led to the ball getting on the 1 yard line for Hebron Christian.
They took it in from there in one play.
So the first time we'll see the offense come out in its entirety and the quarterback to start the game again, they're going to play two is Jordan Green, the junior six foot 185 leading the Lions onto the field.
Yep that's that's who Coach Dallas said would start things.
And maybe he'll actually touch the ball.
Right.
Because they they got got eight points on the board and the quarterback hadn't touched the ball yet.
So you see what he's done there.
Six foot one, 85 a junior.
I'm sure their story if you ask him why are they playing two quarterbacks will tell you.
Change of play from the sidelines.
Plenty of time on the play clock.
Handoff to Caldwell.
Good seam on the right side before he's brought down Jeffrey McCormick number 15.
The tight end among those on the tackle.
Yep.
McCormick had a great season.
He's one of those players.
Coach Cameron said he got him recruited from the hallway.
You know and it's cool to hear that coaches can still do that these days right?
Walk the halls.
Hey, you want to come out and play?
Said he was reluctant.
He's a lacrosse player.
He said, just just give me a week.
Just come out and see if he liked.
He liked it.
He stuck around.
He's been a big part of this team now.
Yeah.
It was a great story.
Talking to coach a few days ago, getting ready for this game.
He says, give me ten days.
Looking to go long.
Got a man there.
Good defense there.
Nice job.
Jarvis Emerson Lewis number 20.
They said he caught it.
Jarvis Mathurin like he came down with it.
And Lewis kept swatting at it and it seemed to come out.
Yeah.
Here's another look at it.
What a catch.
Down to the ground.
He had it.
And at the end he pulls it out.
I think they're going to take a look at this.
Yeah.
The challenge flag is out there.
Coach Cameron.
Because the argument could be did he really have possession.
Was he juggling.
It.
On the way down.
Catch.
No catch.
Defender got his hand in there.
Here's another look at it.
It's a tremendous efforts a great play there to stay with it by Emerson Lewis and maybe incomplete.
We'll see what happens.
So the call on the field is a catch.
Let's see what replay says.
Good crowd today.
Did you stay up late and watch the Carrollton Buford game that.
Finished after midnight last night?
Still here for most of it.
Hung around for a good bit of it.
And what an atmosphere.
What a crowd showed up for that game and had everything you would want to see in a college game.
Yeah.
It truly did.
It truly did.
6-A classification put on a great show here last night.
Two heavyweights going at it.
Congratulations to Buford and Coach App getting that victory.
Carrollton coach.
He's got them here so many times.
And they had the lead.
Yeah they did to those titles.
And the old Georgia Dome with a young man named Trevor Lawrence.
And Cartersville.
Cartersville right.
Yeah.
Back to back state championships 15-0 for Cartersville.
Purple hurricane now with Carrollton.
One more look at this play here.
And we can see again.
Did he have control before the ball comes out.
He's on the ground.
Ball is loose there.
Between his knees.
Lewis finally scoops it out.
Dave Reynolds is our rules guy.
Dave, what do you see?
Happy to be back up here.
You guys.
Again.
The conversation becomes when the receivers go into the ground, the whole survive the ground conversation is in play.
Ball's moving around a lot right there.
We'll see what the replay booth says, but might go back incomplete and go previous spot.
That was my first reaction.
But yeah, again, as I admit I am no expert.
We try to play one on TV once in a while.
Oh man.
No, we got the experts working with this system here.
That's right.
Good to have Dave with us throughout the week.
Upon review, the ruling on the field has been overturned.
It'll be third down.
We chalk one up for Dave.
Yeah.
There you go.
No, y'all nailed that one.
Y'all did a good job over there.
Wow.
Good challenge there by Coach Cameron.
And everybody moves back upfield.
Go back to the original line of scrimmage.
By the way he does get his challenge back.
They're going to review that anyway.
So Calvary Day will retain all three time-outs.
Here okay.
So just to clean that up, we're back to the 41.
It'll be third and five.
Remember it was the Caldwell five yard run right side there on first down.
So third down now.
Whoa.
Got some movement.
Got some movement.
That's going to be against the defense.
And that is enough for a first down.
Let's get the official call from Mike Munier who just just leave the mic on at this point.
Prior to the snap we have encroachment defense.
We've seen more of that.
We've seen of the coaches so far.
Yeah, we have.
Let's take a look at what we get a chance at the starting lineups.
First down delivered by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria.
The Hebron Christian offense Castro Jordan McCart Morrison and Turk.
And then your skill positions.
Hardy Mathurin Barahona Caldwell and Steve.
So, first and ten after the penalty.
Stopped there by Buddy Curry.
The junior good look there at Devon Caldwell.
Curry is one of the guys up front.
Is very active for Calvary Day.
Second down.
Man in motion.
Quick pass out to Kitchings.
Nice move there and the chains will move first down.
Good job.
By Kitchings 510110 pound freshman for Hebron Christian.
Good.
Look at him.
What a future he's got with this program.
Yeah he does.
Great catching great yards after the catch to move the sticks big first down pickup for Hebron.
Jordan Greene quarterback hand off to Caldwell working that right side over there.
Brought down there by Gabriel Ausfeld.
Let's take a look at the defense now delivered by Johnny's New York style pizza.
Your original neighborhood pizzeria.
The defense for the Cavaliers McCormick Curry we've talked about in Varner up front in this 34 format.
Williams Bell Lewis Ausfeld and Baker, and then the backfield Washington Wylie and Walker Coach Cameron Cavaliers.
Second down and six.
Now.
Bo.
Hebron Christian won the state title last year under head coach Jonathan Guess.
Quick pass outside to Mathurin wasn't fooled there.
Great play by Emerson Lewis.
A couple of great stops for him.
What a job he has done here early on in this series.
Calvary Day defense.
We've seen Emerson Lewis on both sides of the ball.
We saw him get a carry on offense as well.
Not being fooled right here.
Just stays with him.
And then here comes the cavalry right.
Great pursuit by that defense.
Brinson just a couple of yards.
Third and six.
Now they've got to get down to the 34 yard line of the Cavaliers Hebron Christian and Black.
Calvary Day and White.
First meeting ever between these two programs.
Under pressure and brought down.
What a job there Brexton Bell the junior.
The first to get in there for the sack.
Assisted by Alicia Williams.
Watch for number 5 like he shot out of a cannon.
Nobody laid a hand on him.
Sets him up.
And Williams for the finish.
Yeah.
Elijah Williams outstanding.
Great job again.
The defense here by Calvary Day.
We talked about you know letting folks know you're around.
They're doing it.
They are fourth and 18.
And the punter coming on.
Gets it away kicks it away from the receiver.
Sean Williams is back to receive.
But nothing doing there.
That punt by Stroud Morris.
And the Cavaliers will set up first down and ten.
That gets a little momentum going for Calvary Day.
The defense goes out.
Sometimes the defense has to go out and get things calmed down.
They go out and have a great stand, great series.
There's an offense one time to compose themselves.
Unless you can go out and get away with those pre-snap penalties and see if we can just get down to executing the offense the way you've done it all season to get here.
That's right, that's right.
So here we go.
First and ten from the 14.
Now here at Calvary.
Calvary Day.
With their third offensive series.
James Mobley the quarterback.
Hands off.
And boy, nothing doing there.
Again.
Just this is a defensive effort on both sides.
Telling you a bunch of guys in there to start things off.
So Fred Moses 42 Sigala in the middle of the screen.
He's the first one in.
He's in there.
Caden Jones on the carry.
There.
It's going to be tough sledding in that middle.
14 on the clock.
Change of play from the sideline.
Handoff again to Jones again.
Slips one tackle but can't get away from the rest.
Finally brought down there by Masen Hardy boy.
There are black shirts everywhere.
He escaped one.
There were three waiting for him when he got out of that grip.
Well, they got a hit early right here.
He got away from that defender, but by that time, boy, here you come.
The hell on the black helmet.
There are five guys in the screen right there on defense.
All to the ball.
You see that when they're running.
Both of these defensive units have showed us that early on.
Here is Hebron Christian defense may be too quick to try to go out to the side with those screenplays, to try to do some slants up the middle, something a little more vertical upfield.
Third and 19.
Now once again and negative yardage.
Marley going to take it himself this time.
It was an empty backfield.
Doesn't get much.
Much there.
30 Bennett Beau Bennett.
Yeah.
Gain of about two.
And so once again it'll be a punt.
You're going to be lining up real close, if not in the end zone here.
Your punter where's your quarterback Mobley.
Tough start for the Cavaliers offense.
-31 rushing yards in this -25 yards total.
Want to get a clean snap here.
No room for error.
Mathurin Caldwell back to the sea.
Gets the punt away high but short.
Takes a Hebron bounce.
And was down at the 25 yard line.
So.
Tough start there for Hebron for make that Calvary Day impact players brought to you by Breda Pest Management official pest control of high school football.
Wynn Hebron Christian is on offense.
We've already seen Mr.
Caldwell.
He's introduced himself.
Right.
Score that one yard touchdown to get things started.
And Jarvis Mathurin also an outstanding wide receiver.
Thought he had a big catch, but it was knocked out.
Ruled an incompletion.
Emerson Lewis has been big on defense also you see him some on offensive side as well.
And Deshawn Wylie holding things down on the back end as a safety.
Guys to watch in this game today.
Matthews watching as well.
Just outstanding player All-State performer for Hebron Christian.
Jordan Green still at quarterback again.
They play multiple guys at quarterback.
This Lions team.
And off to Caldwell Caldwell nearly broke free helmet comes off.
That's Gabriel Ausfeld but a nice run there on first down for Devon Caldwell.
Cole going that right side.
Elijah Morrison Fletcher Turk 67876.
There you see a look at him right there.
Gets it out to Mathurin slips, one tackle still on his feet and finally brought down by Lewis, but not before he has a first down.
He's twisted several different directions.
He did that on this play here.
Mathurin with the catch.
There's Lewis once again gets around and boy, he's got turned all the way around.
Yeah.
Watch 21.
He got a hand kind of high there.
Carson Dean think he might have let go, might have had a little bit of facemask there.
Possibly.
He may have been a little bit there.
Yeah.
Down to the 12 30s to go in the first quarter.
Hebron Christian trying to add to their lead already.
Great defensive effort there.
Kenneth Baker number 6, big 55 Jay Varner as well on the tackle.
Those are two of the big hitters on defense for this Calvary Day program.
Varner 16 tackles for loss.
Of course of the season.
And we're down one.
And that may be the end of the first quarter.
They're gonna let it run out.
Boy a lot of defense here.
Total yards combined by both teams minus two in these first 12 minutes.
So here's a big play that we talked about.
Again the bad snap on the first punt attempt on the first series of the game.
It was Mobley keeping it out of the end zone to the one and led to the score moments later.
One play later by Caldwell the two point conversion good as well.
And that's where we stand.
All defense since then Hebron Christian up by eight at the end of one.

One thing that Jason Cameron did just before the half for the quarter ended, he was going up to players high fiving them, saying, we got this, we got this.
Keep it going.
He also was putting his arm around quarterback Jason Mobley to trying to keep energy and spirit high, too, because again, Hebron Christian is only at eight points right now.
Easily can come back in and find a way back into this one.
Yeah, no question about that.
He was saying again, you know, and I agree with that.
I mean, it's the one mistake that led to a play the other way.
Otherwise it's been evenly played through the first 12 minutes.
Defenses have really set the tone and the tempo for this game.
The points are not going to be easy to come by.
This one, as we've seen.
Veteran coach told us he turns 40 after the first of the year trying to celebrate with a championship here.
How about.
That nice early birthday present?
This way to get the celebration started.
That's right.
So second and nine as we start the second quarter here, Larry Smith, Sam Crenshaw, Maddie Crews, Rauls analyst Dave Reynolds with you here as well.
Great afternoon here in downtown Atlanta.
Throw for Greene trying to get it to Mathurin a lot of activity there, boy.
Emmanuel Lewis, you mentioned one of the impact players in the game.
He has made an impact already in this game in so many ways.
He is big time, you know, and he is drawn a tough assignment today.
He's running Jarvis Mathurin.
He's been right there with him stride for stride.
But watch number 20 Emerson Lewis doing great things so far to start this game.
There's a good look at him.
Here at Jordan Greene.
Third and nine.
Getting the rollout gets it away.
Back to the other side of the field.
Wide open.
Touchdown Max Steve broken coverage there he was.
So alone.
How did that happen?
I don't know.
That was nobody near him at all.
Well you saw Gabriel Ausfeld number 17 coming in on the blitz on the blind side right here.
Green turns around, gets it away just in time.
Wow.
What a play.
Call.
Great execution.
You think you Max Steve.
You think you're all alone out there in that?
Football has looked so huge.
That's right.
Up and down to, 0-2 point conversion.
But the ball comes loose.
So two point conversion fails.
Guess who Emmanuel Lewis.
He is.
He is working.
He is just constantly working.
Never stops.
So our scoring drive brought to you by DBHDD and the new Red ribbon 365 curriculum five plays, 25 yards for the Lions.
Took a minute 36.
Coming off the short 17 yard punt just before that, when they had pinned the Cavaliers deep into their own end.
And so again, taking advantage of the short punt, the short field and they get six points.
Yep they do.
Except this time quarterback touched the ball.
That's right.
Oh the way things have gone.
But a 14-0 lead nonetheless for the Lions start this game.
As we end the second quarter.
Now.
Want to see what happens now with the Cavaliers.
They can get some things going.
Just some consistency on offense.
In the second quarter now football game you want to see guys calm down and just execute.
11 yards on that touchdown.
One play into the second quarter and a two touchdown lead here.
Lucas Ardue is coming on to kick this time.
Kicks it to the defender Lewis the returner Lewis finds a seam.
Nice job there in the open field by Jalil Goley to bring him down.
Once again there's Lewis doing whatever.
Yeah we see him on offense.
We see him on defense.
He's going to get a breather for a moment.
Yeah, but I promise you he'll be right back out on the field in one capacity or another.
That's right.
Yeah.
He really has been on just about every play.
We've called his name so far.
So the defense has done its part.
Gave up the six there.
Now the offense has got to come through.
It has been tough sledding and uphill sledding, if you will, for this team.
Really has to watch and see if they can get some things going on this possession.
See if this offensive line, first of all, no presnap penalties, keep it clean.
Yep.
Mobley looking to.
Throw.
Trying to go downfield.
Overthrew his man Steve was there trying to grab that one.
Trying to get it in the hands of Lewis.
The big playmaker.
Nothing doing.
And it'll bring up second down.
Yeah, he threw it too far out there.
But almost a pick.
Yeah.
Watch for Max Steve.
He's out there to the point where he was the one person that had a chance to really catching it.
Yeah.
I'm not sure if he maybe lost that ball.
He kind of hesitated for a moment there.
Steve that is.
But I like Calvary Day.
Taking a shot downfield, going vertical.
Another quick pass and that's broken up.
Steve again, trying to get in the hands of Becker make that Hicks Jaylen Hicks to Calvary Day.
So third down Steve is everywhere.
Yep.
And those passes, you know, out in that area have been difficult because the Hebron Christian defenders are all over that.
Great defensive effort, coach.
Talking a lot about Steve and what he means to this team.
Region player of the year.
Mobley under.
Pressure.
Puts it away.
Overthrows his intended receiver trying to get the ball to Ty.
Pinckney.
Number 4.
Masen Hardy almost had a shot at coming up with an interception there for Hebron, just in the right place.
Tough start here for Calvary Day on offense.
So another three and out and the quarterback Mobley stays in to punt.
Gavin Caldwell back to receive Jarvis Mathurin there as well.
Last punt went 17 yards.
Very generous Hebron Christian bounce on that.
One.
A little more solid on this one.
Again a fantastic bounce for Calvary Day down to the 36 yard line.
How about that.
That helps.
Yeah that's nice.
That ball rolled about 20 yards on the bounce after it landed.
So you go from the 20 to the 37 43 yard punt there for Mobley.
And you force Hebron Christian to start in their own end of the field.
And as promised our quarterback change.
There we.
Go.
So Gray Costello six foot senior.
So he was injured.
Start of the season Green and actually moved to tight end at one point as number 3 quarterback.
But the number 2 quarterback also was injured.
And so then Greene came in.
Hadn't practiced in three weeks, but he led them during the game and they said, you know what?
Just going back to the one quarterback, we'll do a two quarterback platoon and it's worked for.
Them.
Colson it's unusual roster with 50-5 kids.
We play three quarterbacks.
Costello going up top for Mathurin intercepted.
Who else?
Emmanuel Lewis.
First throw by Costello was long.
Caldwell knocks him out of bounds.
And how about the Calvary Day defense coming through.
And Emmanuel Lewis your impact player.
Yeah defense is making great things happen.
We talked about the defensive impact.
Great pressure there coming on Costello hit right after he let that one go.
And here's Lewis with a nifty return.
Like I said watch for 20.
He rarely comes off the field.
His offense defense special teams he gets it all done.
He's taking a breather right now.
He'll get a quick sip.
There you go.
Yeah you know what I mean.
But man, this guy's working.
Well.
He has been special.
Big play earlier to deny Mathurin a long pass completion in the first quarter.
And then the play here as well.
Interception.
Huge player for this.
Team.
And another another false start.
There.
Yeah.
The center moved the ball.
Carson Dean the senior.
Prior to the snap.
We have false start offense five yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
And the penalties have been tough.
Early on here for Calvary Day.
That's already four penalties for 20 yards.
Handoff up the middle.
18 Zay Middleton.
Another one who had a productive season 685 yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season.
Here he is in the state championship game trying to help his offensive unit get on track.
Loss of one there.
Second down.
Calvary Day trying to get into opposing territory for the first time in this game.
Handoff up the middle.
That's Middleton again and gains that yard back.
It'll be third and ten for the Cavaliers.
Middleton got Middleton got bounced around.
He's going to come out and Ca'Den Jones returns.
To look at Stroud Morris.
Yeah he's been active on the defensive side for Hebron to start this game.
Coach talked about Jones and Middleton said they're like a power and thunder and lightning.
The two of them.
Middleton says lightning bolts Mobley on third down, going up high.
But guess who breaks it up?
That's Steve pass intended for MJ Knight with Max Steve again, the region player of the year is there again.
And boy, I tell you what, two guys right now you better know their names Lewis and Steve on the two opposite sides.
Absolutely.
And here he is again.
Boy knocked that one away right there to MJ Knight.
That's the receiver you want to connect with.
Yeah.
So the best drive of the day so far for the Cavaliers but ends on a fourth down punt here by Mobley.
Once again Mathurin and Caldwell back.
Deep fake throws it.
He said first down and then some.
What a play.
Call the quarterback.
Mobley also punts throws a strike to Gabriel Ausfeld for the big gain.
And the first down.
But we have a flag.
Wow.
Great timing.
Great call.
Now two flags on the field both near midfield.
Here's the call.
During the play we have holding offense ten yard penalty.
We'll take one more look at it.
Coach Caldwell out on the field.
You can see there it is right there.
Yep.
They will come all the way back.
Coach Caldwell out on the field looking for an explanation.
Yeah.
What happened?
What happened?
Yeah.
I love the call.
The play call.
Yeah, yeah.
And, you know, hadn't thought about that.
You got your quarterback back there in that situation right?
Is that the thing that allows your offense to stay on the field and get moving?
Now you already tried that.
So now you just got to go out and kick it.
Right.
Exactly.
Now they're waiting for it.
So the element of surprise is no longer there.
Yeah.
But the mistakes killing Calvary Day now already five penalties for 30 yards.
Just one for five.
Meanwhile, for Hebron Christian, another great roll.
His punts don't.
They're not booming punts.
But boy they've got the they got the great spin on them rolling all the way down to the 20 yard line.
And that's where the Lions have Hebron Christian will take the ball from their 9:22 to go here in the second quarter.
The private classification class three, it's Hebron Christian up by two scores on the visitors from Calvary Day.

What.?
Come on, are.
You lying?
Oh come on.
Oh, what a bad call.
Swindell.
We have no business being out there.
Terrible.
You know, I'm a person to.
The governor's Office of Highway Safety reminding you to heads up Georgia, parking your phone while driving saves lives.
Let's go to Maddie.
Crews on the sideline.
Thanks, guys.
When Jonathan Guest stepped away from Hebron Christian after leading the line to their first ever state championship, one of the first calls he made was to Kenny Dallas, a coach he's known for two decades.
You know, they've been fierce rivals.
They've actually coached on the same team as well for a couple of years.
And Dallas doesn't just consider guests a friend, he considers him a brother.
Guest was honest, laying out the opportunity and the challenges that came with taking over this program, and told Dallas to just consider it.
Dallas visited the school with his wife, initially turned down the job, but something just didn't feel settled for him.
Nearly two weeks later, he called back and the job was still open.
After conversations with his family, Dallas made the difficult move from Trinity Christian, stepping into Hebron with clear eyes and a respect for standard already in place.
That's awesome.
What a great story.
You look at all the history he's had.
Again, he was an assistant, like you said, under under guests that.
Yeah, absolutely.
Before that was like you said, head coach at landmark and Trinity.
He said, you know, it's a lot different to recruit in Fayette County where he came from, than in Gwinnett County, where he is now.
There's so many powerful programs, including that one down the street that just built that massive stadium, that one last.
Night was here last night, right?
Not that far away, right up the road.
That's right.
Caldwell the run on first down.
Five yard gain.
Brings up second and five for the Lions.
Good.
Look at him.
Go.
Doing good things.
Continuing with Costello in at quarterback.
A little excited with that first throw the interception.
But the defense held strong.
Caldwell again.
But taken down.
It just didn't didn't quite.
See who got.
Lost his footing.
Yeah.
The turf monster lives.
He's here.
Folks I don't know who you score for.
The tackle is that turf?
Is he even.
Is there a calling for him?
Is he wearing a jersey?
Yeah.
Third and five now.
Hebron Christian up 14-0 Gray Costello the senior play clock down to five.
Yeah.
Time-out.
Yeah, yeah.
Coach Dallas going to call a time-out for Hebron Christian.
So not a bad call there.
Talked about the coach and says you know on this team we look at Kenny Dallas.
He said you know we only have 11 seniors.
And he said it's a good number because he had a good number of kids graduates.
That was a challenge that what do you change from a team that just won the state championship?
How much do you change and how much do you keep the same?
Bringing in what you have, he says.
Obviously, he said he and Coach Guess are a lot alike in personality, but he still have different things that they do, different philosophies in terms of coaching.
And so he said part of the year was trying to put all that together.
Take a look at how the Lions got here and what they have done.
You can see there they had the bye in the first round, of course, but a couple of really big wins and then the big win over again over fellowship.
Christian.
Said one thing they had to develop was the trust.
Yeah.
You know, that's a big word.
You talk about that word a lot of trust and trusting the coaches and what they're putting out there for you with your game plan and your preparation, but also trusting each other.
Yeah.
A big thing, a big part of the thing that has galvanized this team.
That's right.
That's right.
The dads in.
The stands.
After the time-out, third down and.
Five.
Costello.
Trying to go up deep.
He's got a man there.
Can he bring it in.
And he cannot.
Great defense by Brexton Bell to deny Masen Hardy the catch.
So in a game of big defensive plays, there's yet another one.
As the man he wants to throw it out there and Masen Hardy going to try to haul it in.
Looks like he has it there, but it comes out before he hits the ground.
Another good series.
Yeah for the Cavaliers defensive unit.
That's right yeah.
Defensively they've they've answered the call.
There's no question.
Got a whistle here.
Fingers being pointed over toward the Lions.
Encroachment defense five yard penalty results in a first down.
Wow okay.
Boy that's tough.
You make that kind of play big stop and you give it back to him just with an error.
You've got to get the ball back and a presnap penalty.
Boy, look at Coach Cameron.
He's like my goodness.
Come on fellas.
Yeah just again the penalties.
This is not what got us here.
Let's look at Kenneth Baker guy in the middle of that defensive unit.
These guys got to get back to work.
Six penalty for 35 yards.
Just one against Hill for Hebron Christian.
Gets in the hands of Caldwell on the slant.
Good stick there.
Still on the move.
Carrying about six guys with him.
What an effort by Caldwell to keep going and get the first down.
Incredible effort.
Just would not slow down.
Take another look at it.
Shakes off one defender gets by Wylie and just watch the white jerseys come there and he keeps those legs.
Keep going.
Picks up that first down there.
Great effort.
Nice job there.
First down and ten.
Now for Hebron Christian.
Under 8:00 to go.
Stafford in the backfield quick speedy.
And nobody's going to catch him.
Not even Lewis Jarvis Mathurin the touchdown.
58 yards.
Man that was electric.
Oh.
You guys could have seen Sam.
He was maybe 10 yards downfield.
He already waved him off over.
The left side.
Great block.
How about Justin Castro 71?
That kind of frees him there.
And he does the rest.
That was impressive.
What a burst of speed and Lewis.
Isn't slow?
No.
But he wasn't going to catch Mathurin.
Okay, after trying for two the last two touchdowns this time they have Ardue in for the extra points.
And that's good.
So Hebron Christian breaks through with a touchdown drive here.
One more look at this.
Coming right at you.
Big block and a big run.
See Coach Dallas drawing up some different things right now.
He had Caldwell out on the slant play earlier on the on the pass.
This time he's got the receiver in the backfield giving it to him.
He's Kentrell scoring drive.
Brought to you by DBHDD.
And the new red ribbon 365 curriculum five plays 90 yards.
Just a minute 52 to get that done.
Lions in control right.
Now.
Smiles on the sideline.
730 to play here in the second quarter.
Quick series.
And so now how does Calvary Day answer.
Remember they got the opening kickoff.
So they need to get something going because Hebron Christian will get the ball first to start the second half.
Looking ahead.
Need to have some good things happen for this team.
Maybe here on special teams, maybe get a good run back.
To kick it off kicks it short this time.
Off the bounce.
That's Williams good return.
Gets it out.
About to the 40 yard line.
And that's a great field position.
Now for Calvary Day again.
Still trying to get into Hebron Christian territory for the first time.
Their best start here so far in this game.
Absolutely good place to start.
You needed a good return to give you some working room and you have that now.
So you go out and see how you want to do.
You want to try your running game.
You want to try something passing like Larry has been suggesting.
You want to try something vertical.
You know, see if you can move the ball in that way.
Want to make some progress?
Yeah, find find a way to make it happen.
Mobley got Jones in the backfield with him.
Moonwalking backwards.
They're saying the ball was out of bounds.
There.
All right.
Now.
Now we're set from the 36.
First down.
And now we got another whistle.
Prior to the snap.
False start offense five yard penalty.
Repeat.
First down.
Seventh penalty here in this first quarter and a half against Calvary Day you can see coach Jason Cameron's reaction to that.
You had good position to start this possession.
And now it's first and 15.
Back to the 31.
Hicks in motion.
Try it again.
Mobley looking to go deep trying to get it to his man and it is picked off.
No, incomplete.
The call is incomplete.
Jai'lil Goley made a great effort there against MJ Knight.
The great defense.
I thought he had that one.
I thought he had that one.
I thought he did too.
Here's another look at it.
Let's see what happened.
I thought he made a spectacular grab like a one hander.
That's it brings in, but it comes out there.
And the red flag goes out.
Hebron Christian feels like he controlled it all the way to the ground.
Well.
We got Dave Reynolds over here watching.
Dave is watching it too, I think to the to our View.
Previous play is currently under review for catch no catch.
And this review because he requested it.
This is this is going to be charged to Hebron right.
See if we can get Dave's mic turned on.
Dave Reynolds here is going to give us some insight on this.
Dave.
I know the flag came out.
I'm not sure if the replay booth stopped it first.
Okay, so I'm not sure if it's a coach challenge or not.
It's definitely a challenge reviewable situation.
I think.
Here's a better angle.
The one we had his back was to us.
Still hard to see on that end, but the official was facing the play.
So while we're behind the receiver, the defender, I should say Goley the officials on the other side and has a much better view of it in live, live action.
Yeah, the back judge is in the middle of the defensive behind the safety.
Has that good angle there.
Point of note here.
The rule on the field is very important because we need that video evidence to overturn a call.
And so because it's incomplete, pass on those two angles, might not see enough to overturn it.
I will say they have multiple angles upstairs in the replay booth.
So here we go.
Mike Mainieri.
After review the call on the field stands incomplete.
Pass.
And that's what you get.
And you can hear the crowd sounding off.
And look here.
Look on Coach Dallas face.
Yeah.
What?
From where you were.
What did you hear?
Yeah, I had the chance to catch up with one of the referees here on the sideline, because the challenge flag did come out.
But Kenny Dallas, before he actually threw it out, it was initiated by the booth.
So Kenny Dallas gets to keep his challenge flag as well.
But yeah, a lot of decisions happening over here.
Definitely the Hebron Christian side is not too happy with that call.
Oh.
Wow.
Hester Graham Stroud Morris.
We have encroachment defense 5 yards.
Repeat the down.
Second penalty of the game against the Lions.
Barrett Stroud Morris plays both ways.
511 junior.
Coach Dallas talked about that.
He's won championships with all of his other kids.
And now his son is a sophomore on this team.
Daughter is also involved.
So older brothers give them a hard time.
You better win one now for dad right.
Mobley on the run trying to get it up top.
Nice effort there.
By Ty Pinckney Pinckney can't come up with it.
He had Masen Hardy right there with him defending on the play, trying to do some things, get Mobley rolling him out and see if he can't find a receiver that way.
Got to do something different.
You got to get some progress made and you're down 21-0 in the second quarter is a state championship game.
You tried a great execution on the on the fake punt penalty.
Brought that back.
Those little things that could have made a difference and maybe get some confidence and momentum going for Calvary Day.
It's been tough to get this offense moving.
Third and ten now.
Mobley great catch boy and the stick Jaylen Hicks holding on despite the great defensive play there by Goley and the first down for Calvary Day and the first time in enemy territory.
Throws it in there.
And Hicks makes the catch and hold on to it.
Oh man.
Play by the Cavaliers first and ten Mobley again looking downfield going into coverage up and caught it.
Great catch by Shawn Williams boy with Hardy all over him.
What an effort.
Back to back big plays for the Cavaliers.
Going up and taking that rebound.
Who wants it more?
Watch number 8.
Did not this time I'm taking this one away.
Great takeaway.
Sorry, Masen Hardy not this time 30:06 yards on the pass play.
There.
Calvary Day -19 yards on offense 53 yards in their last two plays.
First down run up the middle.
Doesn't go far.
Not far.
Boy Elijah Morrison 78 right there leading the way.
Right there in the middle.
Best offensive series of the game so far for Calvary Day.
Nearing the halfway point in the second quarter.
They've been down from the start 21-0 Just joined us.
The first series bad snap.
Took it back to the 1 yard line.
That's where Hebron Christian took over.
Took it in from the 1 yard out after that for the 8-0 lead and it's been all of them so far.
Short of series we've seen all week here.
Yes that's right.
Mobley had.
Planned to run it, but again the good pursuit and the spreading out and on the defense on both ends of the field.
Forced to throw that one away.
Linebacker 44 Jack Mostiler.
Bringing the bringing the pressure.
They're on Mobley force him to just throw it away.
He had thoughts of running that it seemed like.
Yeah.
So third and ten now at the 11.
To Williams.
Gets it down to about the five out of bounds.
It'll be short of a first down.
So fourth at about four.
Make it three.
So the question is now the decision for Coach Cameron.
Looks like he's going to go for it.
Looks like they're going to go.
Down three touchdowns.
Williams in motion to the top of your screen.
Hicks in motion to the right.
Oh they pulled him offsides.
But half the distance to the goal.
That still won't be good for a first down.
Prior to the.
Shot we have encroachment defense half the distance.
Repeat the down.
Morgan Jordan junior with a little sense of humor there.
I'm sorry.
Make that Fletcher Turk sense of humor.
Number 76 saw his saw himself.
He's watching himself on the big screen, and he waved to the camera.
Yeah.
Oh my goodness.
And time-out here for Calvary Day Javian Jason Cameron wants to talk about this right now.
So again.
We have the.
Distance to the goal.
Calvary Day that's their first, fourth and one time-out.
Take a look now at a. Calvary Day.
We talked about this first ever meeting here.
You know, they had won four straight region championships 2021-24 but finished second to Jenkins this year.
And that was their only loss.
They've been to the quarterfinals or better every year since 2020.
And as you mentioned at the top 16th straight playoff appearance, they've been in the finals before back in 2013, the school that opened back in 1977.
So they have a great deal of success.
Yeah.
But to get here with a new with a first year head coach and to make it to the state championship game is a monumental task.
Absolutely.
Cameron taking over for Mark Stroud, who was here 16 seasons, 149 wins, 44 losses.
Cameron coming in.
And again.
How about this.
The one loss 12-1 season in his first time calling the shots.
New Jersey native.
Loves it here.
His wife is from Georgia.
All right.
Fourth and one from the.
Two.
Mobley keeps it himself.
He's got a first down and maybe more.
They're going to mark him down.
Just shy boy.
Right about the 1 ft line.
But a great surge by the offensive line for Calvary Day.
I thought he made it in, but I thought it was a helmet that I saw come rolling into the end zone.
Somebody lost a hat there.
He's down one.
Taking another look there.
It looked like the ball may have made it over.
Some people saying the ball may have made it across.
Maybe saying his knee was down before.
First and goal.
First and goal.
Now for the Cavaliers to get in and we may have a flag before the snap.
Here's the call.
Let's get this guy some fresh batteries for his mic at halftime.
Yeah, really.
He has been busy.
They're going to have a review.
That's why we stopped play.
Okay.
That's right.
The previous play is under review.
They're going to take a look at it.
So so before you got that snap away you're going to get a look at this.
And let's take another look.
You know when we get a chance at the angle we had a lot of the fans from Calvary Day are saying it was a touchdown.
He should have gotten in.
Of course fans will say that type thing.
We want to look and see.
Yeah.
Just where the ball did stop.
Well I thought the ball had come out, but somebody lost a helmet.
That was a helmet rolling through the back of the end zone.
Here's a look at it from the side.
The question is let's watch his knee.
And looking at the 14 look like I'm seeing the 14 right there in his helmet does cross the line of where was the ball?
I think that's the question.
Even even the center Carson Dean number 63 saw that helmet come out like you did and ran after it.
He thought it was a football to.
Maddie Cruz is on the sidelines.
Maddie, what are you hearing?
Yeah, guys, after that play initially started walking over Kenny Dallas went over to the referee on this side, had his challenge flag in hand.
Didn't pull it.
But from what I'm hearing, from the murmurs, from the coaches and everyone here, I think they're looking at a false start, possibly on Calvary Day here.
Right before they got in.
I believe that's what the review was for.
It was initiated by the booth, seeing if there was a false start on Calvary Day before they even made it to the to the end line to get the touchdown.
Okay.
We'll take a look at that and see if that's reviewable, which check the rules here in a second.
So we'll watch and see what we've got.
With that there's Coach.
Over there on the sidelines for Hebron Christian.
Again.
They won this last year under Jonathan.
Guess who now has moved on to South Carolina for family reasons.
Took a coaching job over there with his wife's family from over there.
And now Kenny Dallas in charge here.
We were talking about Dallas as well as Coach Cameron here and talking to his team with Calvary Day Kenny Dallas, the coach of Hebron Christian.
We were talking about not only all the state championships, but all the stadiums in which he has.
Chased.
That is confirmed.
We're short of the goal line.
First down Calvary Day.
Okay, okay, here we go.
There's that.
Coach Kenny Dallas, as we look at Coach Cameron here, coach Dallas, when he took over Trinity down in Sharpsburg, they were the GIS.
And the championship game that was down at Mercer.
Okay.
And then chased a championship in the Georgia Dome as an assistant with Elke, I believe, also with landmark.
He was here and then of course, won a state title with Trinity over Georgia State, Georgia State, and then now he's here in this.
So nobody knows Georgia championship stadiums like Kenny Dallas.
He's been there for all of them.
Right.
Okay.
First and goal.
Mobley touchdown.
The Cavaliers finally break through.
And that just changes the way you walk.
And you know you know what I mean.
Your body language your posture and everything is to get down there and have it pay off and get the touchdown 14 Mobley as things happen to him in this game.
But boy, a hole opens up for him.
He walks right in for that first score, getting his team on the board.
That's right.
I like the grit of this team.
Things not going well for them.
He's a Holder now.
Grady Shiver the kicker.
The senior.
Good deed, good deed.
Thank you.
Extra point is up and good.
Calvary Day with a needed touchdown to make a stop and try to get another score right now.
But the one thing you didn't want to do, you don't want to go down.
Maybe four scores and then giving the ball up to start the second half as well.
So this was a really big drive for them.
And like you said, a confidence builder.
Now for the rest of the game.
Absolutely.
Absolutely is what really needed a little shot of adrenaline, a little shot of confidence, a little smiles, Coach Cameron said.
Come on, fellas, here we go.
You know, we found the end zone.
Get some things right?
Yeah, clean it up.
Cut down on these penalties.
We talked about again, it's his first year.
But we also have said that there are no stranger to the playoffs.
16 straight trips.
Here's her last five.
Fell short big to Prince Avenue last year.
You see there Cedar Grove Bolton we saw in the title game the years before that, fellowship.
Christian and again Trinity Christian in the semifinal losing back in 2020 when Kenny Dallas was over there with Trinity.
Yep.
Now here they are in this title game for the first time under their.
Jason Cameron good kick into the end zone there by Shiver and it'll be first and 20 coming out.
And that's where the Lions will start.
Looking Shiver here's your scoring drive.
Brought to you by DBHDD and the new Red ribbon.
365 curriculum nine plays, 64 yards and pretty, pretty quick.
Only 144 again, the two big plays they they were at that third down play.
They were -19 on offense.
And yet they had back to back plays totaling 53 yards in those two plays.
So maybe they finally found something here on the offensive side of the.
Ball.
Let's see.
Now the defense performs the defense has had some bright moments.
Let's see if they can go out and get the ball back.
Yeah they have the defense has played well.
Got to come up big here to figure out where we're going to put the ball down.
Yep.
Oh my goodness.
One way.
Let's go over to this side.
Over here.
No it's over here.
Jordan Greene is back at quarterback after Costello came in for a couple of series again.
Hebron Christian they play two quarterbacks and they'll do this routinely throughout the game.
Costello number 10 was the original starter for this team.
Was injured.
Green came in and played so well that they platooned.
Hand off to Caldwell and he's going nowhere and you hear the reaction from the Cavaliers fans after that play.
Great effort there by number 65 buddy Curry.
Curry one of those guys up on that front line.
Working out there today.
Time ticking down.
Third and final day of championship competition here at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
As always, it's just been a thrilling week of nonstop action.
And it continues today well into the night.
Stay with us here on GPB.
Caldwell again breaks through.
Stopped by number 15.
Jeffrey McCormick.
But just a short gain there.
Only got a couple.
So third and long now coming up for Hebron Christian.
And so again you look at Calvary Day.
They have two time-outs remaining.
If they can make a stop here with some time on the clock, they maybe have some time to get one more score before halftime.
That's your goal right now.
You want to do something.
When we talk each day about the eights, the last 8 minutes of the of the first half, first 8 minutes of the second half sometimes is so pivotal in a game.
And this is one of those windows of opportunity right now.
The Cavaliers can come up with a defensive stop here and get the ball back.
Gives our offense a chance to do something good before they go into the locker room.
Hebron Christian taking a long time getting their play in.
Play clock is down to three.
They're going to call a time-out.
A lot of talking there in their sideline.
Speaking of Hebron Christian, look at their last five playoff appearances.
As they take a time-out.
That's their second of the half.
And last year they were here.
They beat Prince Avenue handily 55 28.
And what would be Jonathan guess last job last game with Hebron Christian Cedar Grove.
We saw the have knocked out Calvary Day a couple of times.
Well, they've also knocked out Hebron Christian a couple of times in recent years, and you can see they're getting Garlington Prince Avenue, first round quarterfinal appearance.
By the way, back in 2019, as last year was the breakthrough year for this Lions program.
You know, they were really tested early in the season, Larry.
They played North Atlanta tight game there.
They beat Fellowship Christian.
That was big for them.
Then they lost to McCallie, one of the powerhouse teams in the state of Tennessee.
On the third game out the next week, they go out and they beat Blessed Trinity.
And Coach Dallas talked about that game and how pivotal that game was for this team to go up against a really good, blessed Trinity team and get a win this time around.
I felt like from that point on, this team realized what it can do.
It had been through some really tough tests before they got into region play.
And it all makes you stronger, right?
To get here.
You hope it does.
You hope it does.
Right?
You play those teams from bigger classifications or you you really challenge yourself.
Coach Dallas talked about he took the team over in March.
Once he made the decision, he came over in mid-year.
His son even transferred with him.
He said, you know, I wasn't sure if he knew everyone's name.
During spring practice.
I was so new.
But they've all come together with each other right here in December, trying to get the ball to Caldwell.
They're under duress and instead Green throws it short, incomplete.
And so another big stop by this Calvary Day defense.
Yep.
Elisha Williams 26 bringing good pressure.
Watch for him.
Coming right in there.
And Greene has to let it go 26 bringing the heat.
Yeah good job laying up to once the ball was away didn't continue on.
I don't want a roughing penalty to stop the drive.
Here's the thing too.
That's been big these last several plays for Calvary Day.
We haven't had a penalty.
And when you're not making mistakes and shooting yourself in the foot, it's easier to run when you're not wounded in the foot.
Right?
Absolutely, absolutely.
Bullet holes in the feet right now here in this first half, they got a shot to close it in one score here Williams on the line drive punt thrown out of bounds there.
Nice effort.
Number 32 Beau Bennett with a good stop there to keep him on this side of the field.
Great special teams play there.
Bennett comes downfield.
Wrestled him out of bounds.
Wouldn't let him go.
But now for the Cavaliers from Calvary Day you have your best field position of the game, so you flip the field.
Can you now take advantage of that in the final?
355 here in the before halftime?
We got a flag here over on the Hebron Christian sideline.
Maybe some things took place afterwards.
After that tackle was made I think it may have been some exchange words exchanged.
There.
15.
Personal foul face mask Black 15 yard penalty.
First down.
Well that was Beau Bennett there on the tackle.
He was right there.
He made see we have a replay if we can catch that.
But.
The coaches are fired up.
But again so 15 yards.
Coach Dallas the flag in.
His hand.
He does, doesn't.
He.
He's going to he's going to throw that out there.
And he's going.
To put it back.
He put it back in the pocket.
All right coach.
What a big that's a big penalty.
Because now instead of starting back on this side of midfield, now you're up to the 39 first and ten again.
By far the best start of any drive for Calvary Day.
First and ten coming off a touchdown.
Last drive.
Can they add to.
It.
Oh.
Almost picked off right through the hands of Jack Mostiler.
Second thing I think that really surprised Mostiler looked up and said, look what I found.
What's this football doing here?
I think he caught him by surprise.
Yeah, I think I can get that.
44 reaches up there and said, hey.
The ball to Jayden Hicks.
Terry by Caden Jones, the junior.
Gain of only about one.
And he comes out of the game Mobley eight of 16 69 yards, a couple of runs.
The 1 yard plunge for the touchdown a few moments ago.
But Calvary Day on the scoreboard for the first time today.
Let's see if they can convert this third down.
Prior to the snap, we have false start offense, five yard penalty.
That's tough too soon.
You talk about how the penalty parade halted.
I did as is going right back again.
Announcer.
Jinx.
And that's at least at least the fourth false start penalty on this team.
At least.
Eight penalties.
Now.
Comes at a tough time.
Third and 14 now.
Got to get it to the 29.
Mobley looking up.
Top picked off.
Max Steve.
Is there?
Pass was intended for MJ Knight good defense on him by Goley.
Steve just playing the safety position out there.
Position watching the eyes of the quarterback and a great athletic move by Max Steve.
Fantastic play.
Watch the quarterback all the way.
Look that pass in.
So what.
You needed something good to happen if you're Calvary Day Hebron gets the takeaway.
And now they got time here.
They got three 0-8 Yep.
They have a chance.
Now put some points on the board before they go to the locker room.
So first and ten at the 20.
Greene is still in at quarterback.
That's Mathurin now in the backfield.
He scored from there on a long run earlier.
Great defensive play there by Deshawn Wylie.
Got a flag.
Far side of the field.
But Wylie made a great stop.
He got a running start.
Smell that.
Play all the way out.
Let's see what the referee's call is here on this flag.
We have illegal shift offense.
That penalty has been declined.
Okay.
So second down.
Now marked the line of scrimmage that was actually a four yard loss on that play.
Again the Calvary Day defense hasn't played bad.
It's been tough to move the ball against the Hebron Christian defense.
Big shift here.
Puts Caldwell in the backfield next to green carry for him.
Men at the line of scrimmage by big number 55.
Jay Varner is their.
Jay Varner is there Gabe?
Gabe Ausfeld 17 is also there in on that stop.
Now third and 12.
Defense is out there fighting.
Boy they spending a lot of time on the field though.
Very even time of possession 11 21 for Hebron 931 for Calvary Day Hebron up by two touchdowns.
Oh.
Faking a trick there and they weren't fooled.
What a great job by Jeffrey McCormick to sniff that one out and take down the ball carrier for another loss.
And now Calvary Day will get the ball back.
15 wasn't fooled.
Oh, this is the one with the ball.
Okay.
That's right.
He found him.
Impressive.
Stop.
Clock is stopped at two 0-2 I think Calvary Day called a time-out.
And yes, they did.
So smart play there.
Fourth and 19.
Hold on to those 40s if you will.
One time-out remaining 2:02.
Calvary Day.
That's their second Taj time-out.
On the clock.
Good luck there.
Right at McCormick, the junior linebacker also plays tight end for them.
Both teams with one time-out remaining here with two 0-2 to play in the half.
Let me get one correction.
By the way I flip flop.
Those Calvary Day had the ball.
11 21 Hebron had it for 1037.
Still Colson I thought.
Yeah, yeah.
Still not much offense for Calvary Day 46 yards total.
But again, they've been playing from behind the eight ball all this time.
It was 31 yards negative 31 yards to start their first couple of series.
Punt is away Williams calls a fair catch right at the 49 yard line.
That's where they will start with 1-56 Going until halftime, what can coach Jason Cameron dial up former Vidalia head coach, Vidalia head coach I grew up in rural southern Illinois.
I always want to say Vandalia.
Is the first.
State capital of Illinois.
When I see Vidalia, I want to say Vandalia, but it's Vidalia.
You're not a fan of the onions?
Yeah.
There you go, Maddie.
Save me.
Yeah.
I'll try, I'll try.
No, being here on the Hebron Christian sideline, I think it just showcases how and the effort that these players have put in.
Kenny Dallas told us this week that he wants this team to be the hardest working team in the state of Georgia, and even after that play, you had players coming off frustration, even though they're up by a couple of touchdowns.
This team aims for perfection and that's what they're trying to do every time they step out onto the field.
Gets the ball in the hands of MJ Knight, the intended target on that interception, by the way, to your point, Maddie.
Yeah, you know, that's the thing is that again, both defenses have just been been outstanding.
And that's the thing that yeah, the offense is both frustrated.
They give credit to the defense on both sides.
Calvary Day for.
Holding things holding the Hebron Christian offense in check after that interception gave them the.
Ball.
Second down, play up the middle.
That doesn't get very far.
Middleton on the carry.
Bring up a third and about nine.
No gain there.
Clock ticking.
Nearing the 1 minute mark.
Stay with us here at halftime Nikki and Nelly joining us.
Scores and highlights a look ahead as well to the games.
Still to come.
Two more games on the way tonight.
We are far from over on this Wednesday.
Nope.
Got much more football for you.
And there you go.
Class three a game coming up later.
Jefferson versus Sandy Creek.
And then tonight the 5-A Red Elephants of Gainesville versus Yellow Jackets of Thomas County, Central.
Prior to the snap, we have encroachment defense, five yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
That's a break for the Cavaliers.
Penalty starting to mount right now for the Lions here in the second quarter.
Third and 448 ticks to go.
Calvary Day trying to get one more score before half.
They have one time-out left.
Mobley.
Gets it out to Hicks.
Shuffles his way for a first down.
He'll stop the clock and move the chains.
Good.
Look at Hicks.
The junior wide receiver.
Great yards after the catch.
They're just determined.
That his clock, the ball.
Stop the clock 33 seconds.
Bring up second down.
Get Emerson Lewis in.
Backfield here.
Been a while since we mentioned his name.
Yeah.
Let's see if he touches the ball.
What do you think?
I think so that's why you bring him in the game.
Oh he's the man in motion here I got a whistle.
He may have.
Another.
False start up front with C. Prior to the snap.
False start offense five yard penalty.
Repeat the down.
Man.
It's really hurt them.
That has been tough.
Eighth penalty here of the first half which will be one of the points they'll talk about on the whiteboard at halftime.
Oh yes.
Lewis in motion.
Again.
Harvey looking downfield.
He's got a man.
Oh.
He came up and dropped it.
They'll say that's incomplete.
Hicks was the intended receiver.
Had it.
He had it at Goley came over with a big hit, number 2, and he turned it loose.
Let's see if he was going to make that catch.
He was going to hold on to it.
Number 2 in the black jersey.
He's going to come up here.
That ball just came right out.
Whoa.
I think he would have held on to it.
Nice job.
By Goley.
Nice job.
Nice job by Krew to get you.
That's right.
Sound of that one.
That's right.
They're going deep again.
And he's picked off.
Mathurin.
Second pick.
We've seen him with the big touchdown run on the offensive side.
Here he is making a big play on the defensive side just before halftime seven makes the catch.
The takeaway right there by Dylan Hudson also 13.
Second interception of the half Max Steve had one earlier for this Lions defense.
And now Matthews you see his numbers 56, 155.
All state performer.
He showed us some real afterburners.
That touchdown.
He's down.
He had he just ran away from everybody.
Georgia Southern commit the Eagles getting a good one down in Statesboro.
First down play.
Now they can run out the half.
Carried by Caldwell.
And that may be the final play of the first half.
And it is Hebron Christian jumping out to the big 21-0 lead Calvary Day finally punching the scoreboard.
But right now it is all lions here in the first 20:04 minutes of this private classification class three state championship Hebron Christian champions in 2020 for and trying to do it again here in 2025 with a new head coach, some new players, new philosophy from what they had last year trying for the same result in this one, coaches interviews at halftime.
Brought to you by Johnny's New York style pizza, your original neighborhood pizzeria.
And Matty is with coach Dallas.
Coach, your defense has come up huge in this first half.
How important is their energy and what they've been able to do on the field?
Going to help you guys in the second.
Oh yeah, I mean we're a pressure team offensively defensively special teams.
What we do we try to put the put the pedal to the floor and get after it.
Defense has played well.
They've got a heck of a defensive front up front slanting across our face, kind of getting some stuff done.
We've got to get in there and talk about that a little bit, but real proud of how hard our kids play, all the other stuff you can correct.
As long as you're playing hard, our kids are playing hard.
What do you need to see continue in the second half for you guys to continue to see success?
Yeah, just us playing our game.
Lemmy pressure getting after it.
You know, everybody make their make their blocks, make their do what your job is.
And nobody else like we talked about in this game and champions listen it's all about the next snap.
It's total focus on the next snap.
We'll look up at the end of the game and see what the score is.
But for now it doesn't matter.
So we'll we'll get in there and just talk about a handful of things we got to do.
It's not an effort deal, but it's just cleaning up a couple of blocks up front and we're going to be in good shape.
Coach, thank you again for the time.
Thanks so much.
Back up to you guys in the booth to get us ready for halftime.
All right.
Thanks so much.
Yeah.
To Coach Dallas point -23 yards rushing for Calvary Day here in the first half.
Only 60 only 66.
Make that 53 yards total in the first half.
And just four first downs lopsided first half as the Lions came out on top early.
Big and then two point conversion here.
Touchdown pass here to Steve Lions.
Lots to celebrate.
And now they'll talk about it at halftime as we close out the first half.
How about one more look at Jarvis Mathurin Lions by two touchdowns.
Nelly and Nikki up next at halftime.
Let me know if I can help you with anything.
Just looking.
I only buy local and sustainable, so.
Oh.
Well, that shirt's not local.
You should be wearing cotton.
George is a major supplier of cotton worldwide, so if you'd like to buy local to support Georgia, buying cotton is a great place to start.
It's renewable and sustainable.
Naturally.
Thanks.
That's a polyester fiber made of oil, by the way.

Welcome in to our GPB Halftime Show!
We're live from Mercedes-Benz Stadium as GPB brings you three days of the best of the best.
John of Georgia High School Football state championship coverage.
My oh, my.
We have had so much fun.
Incredible football we have witnessed out there on the field behind us for the past three days.
My oh, my.
You know, just I feel like I had to bring that in there.
Just one of those impressions is just it had to be done at this point.
It's lunchtime.
It's lunch time, we're getting hungry.
We're falling off the rails.
It's halftime right now.
Fell off the rails like late Monday.
Who are you kidding?
That's that's true.
It's halftime right now of our private classification game between Hebron and Calvary Day.
The Lions are leading 21-7 What else?
John a couple of things stuck out to me.
Nine penalties for Calvary Day for 50 yards in the first half, also two for ten on third down conversions for Calvary Day Hebron Christian taking advantage of the opportunities given to him.
You heard from Kenny Dallas.
We'll hear from Jason Cameron with Maddie Crews on the field in just a little bit, but a lot of work for Calvary Day to do.
I think the penalty on the fake punt came up big as well in the first half.
That created a deeper field.
So we'll keep an eye on all that stuff.
Maddie Crews will have answers for us coming up in just a little bit.
Just a little bit.
There were nine penalties.
Is that.
Nine for 50 for Calvary Day in the first half?
That's a lot.
And negative rushing yards.
Negative rushing yards -23.
Yeah.
Yes.
What do you think the message is in the locker room right now.
Oh boy.
I know we'll hear it coming out.
But what do you think it is right now.
We'll see if it comes comes true.
I think you've got to focus on these big plays for for Calvary Day.
You're getting yards at times.
Taking a couple of deep shots here and there, but we'll see if Jason Cameron wants to manage the ball down the field, or if he thinks he's going to be confident enough to take those deep shots.
We'll find out from Maddie Crews coming up in just a little bit.
Okay.
All in all though, we've seen some incredible sportsmanship.
We have certainly done that.
And part of what we do at Georgia Public Broadcasting, the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award from our friends at Georgia's EMCs.
Here's a salute to all the winners.

And welcome back in to our GPB halftime show.
It's currently the half of our private classification matchup between Calvary Day Hebron Christian.
However, we are getting ready for the Three-a matchup.
However.
Between Jefferson and Sandy Creek.
And thanks to our friends at Georgia Access, we get to have an awesome conversation over here with head Coach Sandy Creek Darius Smiley.
Thanks so much for joining us, coach.
Thank you all for having me.
All right, so what study Hall been like getting ready for this one.
And it's been a lot of film study, a lot of preparation, getting ready for Jefferson Jefferson is a great program.
And you know, hats off to Coach Nolan and his staff and what they've done so far this season.
And I think three games is going to be a pretty good one.
All right.
Well so far this season 14-0 you're inching closer to that 15th game coach.
What's been working for you this season.
How has your team just been so successful already up until this game?
Well I think it's you know, we got a close knit group.
They're very senior led.
We're player led.
And I think that's been the difference for us.
This is my third year there.
And you know, we've kind of underachieved the first two years.
And I think, you know, having a good senior group and a lot of senior leadership has helped us get over the hump and get into bins today.
Defensively eight times you've only given up single digits or had a shutout this season.
What's it been like to see the defense answer the bell for you this year?
They've been they've been great all year.
You know even last week against Lagrange you know they had some moments there where you know it looked kind of shaky.
But they responded when they needed to.
And you know I'm just excited for them excited for the opportunity they get today.
It's going to be a ground and pound group that we're going to face this, this tonight.
So I think our guys are ready for it.
Ground and pound group now.
Now, sometimes I'm a sideline reporter on the field in the game coach.
And I like to tell people that, you know, we like to be the eyes and ears on the field.
Are there any players that have just stood out that have really taken the reins of that leadership that you were talking about earlier, that we should keep our eyes and ears on as we watch this game?
Yeah.
Our senior safety number 12, Rod Smith.
He's kind of the he's been the one he's kind of operating as the coach, you know I'll give you an example.
You know, we had the meeting here last Wednesday, and I had to miss weight training, so I texted rod, I said, hey, here's a workout.
You know, he put it up on the board.
And, you know, when I got back, he was like, coach, everything went well, you know?
So he's.
And he's kind of done that all throughout the course of the season.
And our kids have gravitated to him.
They listen to him.
And it's to the point where our our basketball coaches, they kind of, you know, when we get done with weight training, they pause and tell the gym to stop so they can hear what rod has to say.
But, you know, he's kind of taking ownership of that role.
And you know, I can mention, you know, Amari Latimer another one.
Evan Harvey.
Mathias Miranda, you know, we got 16 seniors and all of them play a role, you know, in helping us get get to this point today.
I was going to say real quick about the seniors two titles, in four years.
What's your message to the senior class of how to get that 15th win and go out a champion?
Oh, you know, my message has been, hey, go, go out the same way you came in, you know, and that's that's one of the things that I think that they have worked, really worked really hard for like, I, I think we're prepared.
I think you're going to see a focus group, a group that flies around and you know, we're going to try to get one.
All right.
So then along those lines, you know, we like to do make that kid an offer at GPB.
Is there anyone that didn't get the look on signing day that you think really deserves to get looks?
Isn't getting the looks you think they're getting or isn't getting looks at all that they need to get?
Yeah, I'm going to say Rod Smith again.
He's another one.
He's 59, 510.
A little undersized, but can play safety.
He can play corner, he can play nickel.
He plays a lot bigger than what he is.
And I think you'll be able to see that tonight.
You know he's he's done a phenomenal job.
And I'm just excited for the opportunity.
He'll he'll get to, you know, show his skill set on the biggest stage.
And he can lead the weight room.
Yeah.
And he can lead the weight room.
So give him the whistle.
Give him the weight room.
Everything's cool.
And then maybe a headset.
Eventually.
It sounds like.
Coach, thanks so much for joining us.
We really appreciate it.

Heads up Georgia.
And welcome back to our GPB Halftime show.
We're live on GPB from Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
It's been three days of high school football state championship coverage.
It's been an extravaganza.
Jon Nelson I think Nikki just needs to have the T-shirt that says extravaganza.
Extravaganza.
You know, GPB logos, GHSA logos and.
Things like when you say it, you feel it and you bring it.
And you know what?
In all capital letters.
We're going to talk about a student athlete that brought it this year at the 125th U.S.
Open.
You heard that right.
His name is Mason Howell.
He is our USA pharmacy player.
Spotlight.
He's from Brookwood School.
Take a look.
Mason is an elite talent due to his work ethic and how he manages his time.
He wants to win.
He's not out there for a participation trophy.
I can promise you that.
It was awesome.
Playing in front of a crowd like that and playing against some of the best players in the world and players that I grew up watching, that was a crazy feeling.
It's something I never really thought I would be doing.
He doesn't get wrapped up in, you know, success.
He's always looking forward.
We've been super blessed as a family that we get to watch Mason live out his dream as playing golf, because it's all he's ever wanted to do.
For as long as I can remember.
Him winning the U.S.
Amateur now makes him the third youngest to ever do so.
Man oh, man.
Not jealous or nothing of that ability, huh?
Elite talent and played with elite company at said U.S.
Open.
No doubt about it.
You can also find the full length version of those features with all the USA athletes that we get to focus on all season long over at their YouTube channel as well.
You saw that full screen there at the end.
Just a reminder, all these great athletes, all these great student athletes here in the state of Georgia, can't thank our friends from you.
Save it for everything that they do with us here at Georgia Public Broadcasting.
We're going to catch up with Tommy Sharp here a little later in the day for very special presentation.
Absolutely.
And speaking of the day, we've had a great day, John, but it's not over yet.
Nope.
Take a look at our schedule.
There's the menu.
Pope wins at the buzzer conversion 14 13.
It's friends and rivals.
The first five Division five flag champ goes to Pope.
Three in a row for the Greyhounds and Cade Frazier.
We got this one here right now in the private division.
Getting ready for the second 24 minutes.
Then after this one, you heard from Darius Smiley.
It's Sandy Creek.
He mentioned Amari Latimer.
That's going to be in the spot shadow against a bunch of dudes being dudes.
Dudes playing football.
Jon Nelson dudes playing football with Jefferson and Sandy Creek about 406 ish GPB time and then 736 ish GPB time the 5-A final.
The last one here.
13-13 Thomas County, central half of Thomas County will be here Gainesville all of Gainesville will be here.
The teams were actually here last night kind of scouting the the Carrollton Buford Intergalactic Extravaganza.
Had to drop that word in there one more time.
Final 13-13 730 ish Thomas County Central Gainesville right here on the great GPB.
A fantastic week of football here at Mercedes-Benz.
It always is.
Every year it gets better and better.
I'm not complaining.
I'm not complaining either.
And you know what?
We have to complain right now because, well, we have to get back to football.
But the good news is that we're coming back.
So it's like, you know, football and football and more football.
We're not complaining here anyway.
Maddie catching up with Coach Cameron coming up in just a bit.
Third quarter around the corner here in the great GPB.

Back here at halftime at Mercedes-Benz Hebron Christian.
On top of the break 217 as we get ready in a couple of minutes.
Here to kick off the third quarter.
Let's go down to Matty right now for the interview presented by Johnny's New York style Pizza with Coach Cameron.
Coach, what was the message to the guys in the locker room before coming out for the second half?
Listen, we played our worst game of the season, especially offensively.
You know, snap a ball over our head and we're still in a two score dogfight here.
We got kids from Savannah man.
They don't quit.
What needs to happen in this second half for you guys to get back on top and find a way back into this game.
Just clean up messes, you know what I'm saying?
We've put ourselves behind the chains all night with false start penalties.
Defensively, we've got to get off the field.
On fourth down.
We went offsides on a punt, so we got to clean up self-inflicted wounds.
If we lose this thing, we want to make sure it's Hebron beating us, not us beating ourselves.
Thank you coach so much.
Back up to you guys in the booth for the second half.
Yeah.
Thanks so much.
Yeah, he is exactly right.
Larry Smith here with Sam Crenshaw.
Nine penalties there in the first half.
But you've got to look at this.
They're holding a Hebron Christian team that averages 435 yards per game on offense to only 116 yards in the first half.
So they've done their job defensively.
Just too many mistakes.
Absolutely mistakes on offense for Calvary Day.
And right now their offense is basically stuck in first gear.
They got to find a way to get some momentum and some consistency going and convert some third downs.
Very important for them as they come out to start the second half.
Yeah.
Negative yards in the first half except for that one drive.
Let's look at some first half highlights right now.
If you've just joined us start off it was a tough series to way to start for Calvary Day.
On the fourth down punt in their own end coming off the opening punt, the bad or the opening kickoff bad snap there down to the 1 yard line.
And that's where Devin Caldwell made it an 8-0 score.
Then Jordan Green the two point conversion and then the good stick here.
Once again, just the tough defense from Hebron Christian going up top here.
This was the play.
Emmanuel Lewis stripping the ball from Mathurin.
Great job there.
Good defense again by this Calvary Day team time and time again.
But they finally found a crack here.
Max Steve the touchdown catch that was from Jordan Green made it 14 to nothing.
Great defense on both ends there.
Steve yet again.
Now it's Costello going up top picked off by Lewis the one turnover that Hebron Christian had in this.
And then this play Mathurin over 1,000 yards receiving.
But he takes the rush there 58 yards to the house.
Made it a 21-0 score after that.
And then finally how Calvary Day Queen McKinney the touchdown made it 21-7 But again, the penalties really stick out.
Absolutely.
The penalties are big.
You see 50 yards on nine penalties, but you look at the rushing yards a negative number there yet.
Time of possession is pretty even in this game.
You know Calvary Day has had the ball.
He just making some things happen, get some consistency and get something progressive going here in the second half.
Let's see if they can do it.
By the way check this.
By the way it's Emerson Lewis not not the guy who played Webster back in the day.
So Emerson Lewis.
He isn't down.
He is here in Atlanta maybe watching possibly.
So nice to see him at the grocery store all the time back.
He lived not far from me back in the day.
Emerson Lewis with the big play there.
Number 20.
In fact, he made a lot of plays for this Calvary Day team early on.
But you got to look at this again in terms of Coach Cameron is right.
The little mistakes they made this is a Hebron team that eight times this year scored more than 50 points.
And yet you held them to three touchdowns and you gave them one of those.
That's the thing.
And mistakes are magnified in the championship game, right.
You know all the times you make them in a game like this against a really good team, you can't do that over and over again without expecting the team to make you pay.
That's how they got here as well.
So you got to clean some things up, he said.
The mess that they made themselves, he's talking right now.
You know, you want to get those things cleaned up as they start the second half.
Yeah.
Find a way to make that happen.
So, Hebron Christian received the ball first.
As I mentioned there on the first series, they had the high snap on the punt, and that wound up on the 1 yard line and the first touchdown again, they gave it to them.
Caldwell taking it in.
So it's Lions of Hebron Christian that will receive the ball first to start the second half for us here.
Moon off the ball.
Some of the players Deshawn Wylie the junior.
So a look at Jordan Green there.
I guess he will start the first series at quarterback, as he did to start the game for Hebron.
Grady Shiver number 19 going to kick off here.
That's brought to you by Heads Up Georgia parking your phone while driving saves lives.
217 Hebron Christian on top and they'll get the ball to start the second half.
It's Mathurin and Caldwell down deep to return the ball, but it doesn't matter.
They kick away from both of them.
You know, Coach Dallas said of Mathurin.
He said, my 23 years of coaching, he is the best kick returner I've ever seen.
That was high praise for wow.
He's seen a few now because they had some really good ones, especially now that Elke really big.
Kick out of bounds.
Ball by rule will be placed at the 35 first down.
And some fresh batteries, hopefully for the microphone of Mike Manier.
We got a workout in the first half, huh.
Very busy that first quarter.
We were joking.
Seriously.
We saw him when we saw the coaches.
He had so much camera time.
Call Sag-Aftra, he's got everything paid up and gets his gets his rate for the day.
Syr Jordan Greene there in the first half, six of nine, 42 yards and the touchdown to Steve.
That made it a 14-0 game.
The two point conversion missed after that.
Mathurin in motion comes the other way.
Now.
Instead, that pass is complete, but nothing doing there for fantastic defense for Calvary Day by Scottie Walker to deny Austin Kitchings going very far.
Tried to set up that little screen on the outside and Mr.
Walker said nothing doing here to start the second half.
Number 9 comes up and makes a big stop there.
Yeah, again, we've seen a lot of that today.
This Cavaliers defense.
Good.
Look at him.
Walker a senior for this.
Calvary Day team.
Just one loss all season for the Cavaliers.
Hand off Caldwell.
And again, he's stacked up.
First one there is Jay Varner.
We called the seniors name quite a bit there along the defensive line.
Seniors are stepping up things defensively to lead the way.
They know what they have to do.
They got to come out and set the tone in the second half, get the ball back to their offense.
They've done that.
Just a 1 yard gain there.
So a third and nine.
Can the Cavaliers get one more stop here and get the ball.
Jordan Green looking up top Lewis defending against Mathurin a little contact there, but incomplete pass, no penalty and a good stop.
A three and out for this Calvary Day defense.
That's what you want to see right here.
A little push little shove.
Yeah just a little bit.
Yeah.
Not enough to make a difference.
Emerson Lewis getting it done.
Don't call me Emmanuel.
Emerson Lewis.
And don't worry, he'll stay on the field doing something here.
Yeah, yeah, well, I mean, probably your most versatile, talented player on both sides of the ball, so.
Absolutely.
It's your it's your final quarter.
You can rest at the holidays.
Punches away.
They kick it away from Williams who lets it roll.
Good bounce for the Lions all the way down to about the 13 yard line.
So we get down to the 12.
And that's where the first offensive possession of the second half is going to take place.
And get started for Calvary Day, here comes James Mobley with his team.
First of all, that line got to cut down on the Presnap penalties.
The things that really hurt them.
Give the quarterback some time to see if he can make some connections.
Move this team upfield.
That's right.
52 yard punt.
By the way.
Stroud Morris for Hebron Christian.
Mobley keeps it and he swallowed under all kinds of black shirts there.
Yeah.
Albert Wilham is there big number 74.
Krew Jordan junior.
Watching this play, there's 70 33 helping out.
Yeah.
44 Jack Mostiler also there.
On that play up, four yard loss.
Mobley Sims Williams in motion.
Gets it now to M.J.
Rides on the slant play.
You see more of that.
That worked the defense before they could react.
He's been trying to connect on this a few times today.
And he times it right this time.
Right to the guy who wants to get it.
Ten yard gain brings up third and four right now.
Opening minutes of the third quarter.
Hebron Christian took a 21-0 lead trying to win the state championship for the second year in a row with two different head coaches.
Mobley up high and it's caught.
What an acrobatic catch there.
Nice job.
Jaylen Hicks.
Wyche Hicks.
Get up there, get the catch and then hang on afterwards.
Takes the shot for Max Steve.
That's important.
Larry, you got a first down?
Yeah.
Nice throw there.
Put it right up over the top in between defenders.
Keep it moving out to the 29 now.
First and ten.
Are we looking downfield again.
This time to Williams.
He's got the ball.
Nice job there by Goley was an interception in the first half.
One of two for this Lions defense.
Nice catch.
First down boy.
Pick up of nine.
He got a manageable second and one to work.
Yeah they're going to move the chains.
Move the chains.
They're going to say it's a first down.
A little confusion there.
Just got the chains set barely before they snapped that.
I was watching.
That went down the field to the other side.
No.
Move the chains.
Hurry up.
It's a live ball.
Cayden Jones there with the carry.
Second and nine.
All right, we got the chains all settled now.
Here we go.
Yeah, sticks.
There we go.
And to your point, you don't have to be in a hurry here.
You got the whole half.
Your defense is playing well.
Take your time.
Find your spots, get some yards.
Move the ball down the field.
Empty backfield.
Gets it over to Williams.
Short gain there.
Hardy one of the defenders.
Out there.
And also that guy.
Stroud Morris around the play.
Cain just a couple of yards.
Third and six.
Now.
Going up top.
Man on man coverage.
Great catch there.
Nice job.
By MJ Knight.
That ball was underthrown.
Great adjustment by Knight in Mid-stride to go up and get that ball.
Great adjustment.
We also saw the official hit the turf back here to the official does play the play center field back there.
I hope he's okay.
He gets up and moves just fine.
Great adjustment to make that catch by MJ Knight big pickup.
That's huge.
Now they're inside the 25 down to the 24.
First and ten.
Nice play there 33 yards on the pass.
Play from Mobley out to Knight.
Cavaliers on the move.
Mobley again looking across the middle.
He's got his man Knight first and goal at the five for Calvary Day.
Boy big MJ Knight.
But boy he took a shot.
He did.
I think he's going to come off the field after this one.
He's going to try to hang in there, but watch the lick that gets applied right there.
Boom.
Right there.
Max Steve Max Steve a big shot.
Steve got office from Davidson.
Gardner-Webb., Samuel.
And we're looking right now.
Yeah.
Knights down on the field because he is aching right now.
Yeah.
MJ Knight junior wide receiver.
Time-out on the field.
An official time-out.
He tried to make it go.
, and they're going to get him up and get him off to the sideline.
As you can tell, he's a really shaken up boy.
Fantastic catch.
And to hang on to it after that hit.
Yeah.
Wicked shot by Max Steve.
33 yard catch 22.
More on that play.
And so puts Calvary Day down inside.
You know I love the grit they're coming out with here in the second half.
And now this time-out right now.
Coach Cameron just got a chance to gather the team around him for a couple of minutes during this injury time-out and sends them back out.
They want to finish this drive.
Momentum is so big.
We saw the defense respond after Calvary Day got their first touchdown.
And you saw the team come back out again and now it's reversed.
We saw the big three and out.
And now the offense that's coming and doing their part.
Some good things happen.
Let's see if they can finish it here.
Down to the two.
Touchdown.
Cayden Jones and the Cavaliers say we're here at Atlanta.
We're looking for a championship.
What a way to start the second half huh?
Your first possession.
You bring it down the field and you finish with the touchdown run.
Caden Jones into the end zone.
Coach Cameron told Matty.
He's a tough guy from Savannah.
That's right.
We're not going to quit.
That's right.
And this drive that started back on their own 12 yard line.
We talked about the great roll after that.
That punt that they got.
Shiver on to kick.
And we got just the long snapper because Knight was the long snapper.
That's right.
So we got 15 " long snapper.
We got an end and works.
McCormick is an extra point is good.
We've got ourselves a ball game here at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Still in the opening minutes of the second half.
And Calvary Day has cut that deficit down to seven.
How did the Lions answer?
That's up next.
Breda Pest Management knows it's the bugs inside that you want gone.
That's why Brayden works to protect the inside and outside of your home.

21 14 Hebron Christian.
Now their lead has now been cut to seven thanks to the effort of that young man.
Back to back catches by MJ Knight to set up the touchdown by his teammate Caden Jones.
Take a look at the scoring drive brought to you by DBHDD and the new Red ribbon.
365 curriculum.
Nine plays, 88 yards.
331 right now Sam for first downs in the entire first half by Calvary Day for first downs on that drive.
On that drive, and all exclusively through the air passing right.
You want to see if they complete some passes.
The offensive line giving Mobley some time to work.
His passing numbers are now up to 164 yards passing.
The offense.
Only 53 total yards in the first half 80:08 on that drive.
So what a way to answer here for Calvary Day trying to get the championship ground ball taken in by Mathurin, but he stepped out of bounds or stepped Amari stepped in the end zone so it'll be a touchback.
Correction out to the 20 yard line.
Maddie Cruz what are you seeing down there in the field?
Yeah, it was one thing talking to Jason Cameron and he said he's a huge supporter of the multi-sport athletes.
And you have a couple of them on their team right now.
You just saw Marlon Knight had a brilliant drive for the Cavaliers, but also Grady Shiver to who is the kicker on the team.
Both of those players play multiple sports.
Marlon Knight also played men's basketball as well, and the Grady Shiver also plays soccer for Calvary Day.
He said it's so important because it helps across every single sport that you play, especially to.
A lot of these athletes have competed in state titles for other sports.
They know what it means to be a champion and they can bring that on the field in this matchup.
Yeah, it was neat to hear him talk about that, Maddie.
Great point.
And saying that you know they're staying active.
You're still working on the fast twitch muscles.
You're staying engaged.
Your mind and your body in sync.
So he loves that.
And competition is competition.
Yeah right.
You get the competition.
You figure things out.
You get things to go your way and you bring it to this sport as well.
Yeah.
Two good series to start this half by both the defense and the offense.
And they start again right here with the same thing.
Guess what.
Another big play there buddy Curry.
We've called his name several times.
Momentum now shifting here in Atlanta.
You can feel that happening.
You can just feel it right.
Curry is in on that stop Williams 26, also in on that stop.
This defense looking to pick things up.
What they did in the last possession, get the ball back in the hands of the offense.
Talked about this high powered offense again averaging 55 points per game during the playoffs 21 points so far here.
Trying to add to it.
Caldwell taken down from behind.
Nice tackle there by McCormick.
Number 15.
There's a look at Jeffrey McCormick.
From the hallways to the gridiron.
Devon Caldwell hasn't gotten going either.
Number 17.
The running back we just saw there for Hebron Christian, the Mercer commit.
Good.
Look at him.
A talented player that will soon be a Mercer bear.
Saturdays down to a five star stadium.
Green going up top.
What a catch by is that Steve?
No Masen Hardy just wrestled the ball away.
Wow.
Jump ball.
Who wants it more?
Pump fake.
Number 4 just goes up there and says I want it.
Takes it away from Scottie Walker.
Yeah.
Nice defense by Walker.
Just Hardy beat him for it.
And if you're Hebron Christian you needed that.
Get that first down.
No.
Three and outs in consecutive series and a defensive penalty, it appears.
Yeah.
Wylie a little too aggressive and jumps over the line.
There.
Prior to the snap, we have encroachment defense five-yard penalty.
We'll keep it down.
Talked about the nine penalties in the first half for coach Cameron Cavaliers.
That's the first one here in the second half.
They have been crucial.
Sam, as we talked about.
Just not so much the number.
It's when they happen taking them out of situations and negating big plays.
At some point.
21:14 first and five now for the Lions hand off to Mathurin.
He had a long rushing touchdown earlier.
He appears to have enough for a first down, possibly before being brought down by Varner.
Yeah.
Becker market I think it is.
See where they mark it?
Yep.
The chains moving, watching to see.
There we go.
Here we go.
Yeah.
Second.
First down of this second half for Hebron Christian.
Caldwell to fumble that handoff and oh, my Hebron Christian lucky to fall on that.
Great job by Justin Castro.
Great story about him.
Was playing eight man football.
Sam.
That coach said that the school disbanded the program.
His grandmother called coach and said he walked in.
You don't get a chance to see a kid like this just walking off the streets.
No, no, no.
Come out, come out of eight.
Man ball.
Look for a place to play.
He found a great place to play.
Yeah.
Boy, they dropped the ball there.
And there were some defenders there from Calvary Day that just didn't see it.
Yeah.
Went right past it.
Well, it didn't bounce.
It just died.
And that was advantage Hebron Christian.
No question.
Castro junior offensive lineman.
They like what they're going to see out of him.
Caldwell wanted to throw that ball, but nothing there still on his feet.
Great job by Devin Caldwell getting it going.
This is a run all the way down inside the 20 yard line.
Make it the 20 1 yard line for the Lions.
This play just kept on going.
He's looking to throw it here.
Rolling.
Now you know what I guess I'll go ahead and run it.
And he's still going before Brexton Bell comes up there and plays a hit at the end.
Nice job by Ausfeld there to take the pass out of the play.
The intended pass, but it turns out a nice gain here.
And Caldwell that's his biggest play of the afternoon.
First down play inside Ausfeld their McCormick there to shut down Mathurin.
Looking Curry been working out there this afternoon.
Yes, he.
Has part of the guys up front for Calvary Day.
Mathurin now two carries, 59 yards.
Caldwell 18 carries, 68 yards.
So we're inside the red zone.
Presented by Alfa Insurance right at the 20.
Second and nine.
Under duress.
Gets away from that.
Tries to throw it away.
And they're going to say he was.
Hays down.
Down at the spot.
Did he get away.
Was it was it was it a pass.
Yeah.
It's another look.
Great pressure.
Elisha Williams looked like the knee may have hit before that ball.
Was ruled an incomplete pass.
.
Ruling that he's not well.
Play clock is down to five.
I think anyone realizes it.
Now a time-out has to be called.
Third down conversions.
Calvary Day has done well so far.
Two for two here in this half.
Hebron Christian two of seven on the day.
The GPB all star team.
There are a couple of players we've been talking about here in this game on that team.
Devin Caldwell we talked about him undecided 59.
180.
I thought he was a Mercer.
Mercer looking Mercer commit okay.
On that one.
And also.
Jarvis Mathurin is another one.
That's just been outstanding for this team.
And we mentioned before he's headed to Georgia Southern 57, 160 punt returner again.
Coach said maybe the best he's ever seen in his 23 years of coaching.
And we've seen the great speed here, the 58 yard run for the touchdown there.
In the second quarter, that actually was the last score they had at the 736 mark of the second quarter.
They've been shut out since then.
Coach worked with a guy down at Elko.
That was pretty fast.
Keaton Mitchell, now playing for the Baltimore Ravens.
So he had a guy out there that could move for him to say that.
That's pretty big.
Yeah, it is.
All right, so on the sack credit that to Elijah Williams.
Pressure again.
And they get him again.
Williams again this Calvary Day defense.
They have stepped up in the second half.
What a time for that.
Is Hebron Christian offense has been on the move.
But here's Williams with a takedown quickly into that backfield.
These were two big plays.
So you've got to Hebron Christian team.
That was first and ten at the 21.
Now they're going to have to probably punt all the way back at the 38 yard line to try for a field goal.
Actually a 54 yard attempt.
Lucas Ardue 510.
Junior.
He's actually.
All kinds of whistles.
Prior to the snap, we have a delay of game offense, five-yard, penalty replayed it down.
Coach Dallas doesn't like that call.
So tack five more yards on fourth and 31.
Now does it take you out of field goal range?
We're at 50:04 before now.
You're at 50:09.
Yeah I think you're going you're going to punt it now.
What a turn of events here.
For this Lions offense.
It was moving along.
Yeah.
They had things going like they were going to get a chance to put some points on the board.
Yeah.
If you're Calvary Day all of a sudden you get the ball with a chance to tie it up.
Come all the way back from a 21-0 deficit halfway through the second quarter.
Williams going to let it bounce.
It's a good role for the Lions.
Down to the five yard line.
So a 47 yard punt well done there.
Well placed.
By Stroud Morris.
Nicely done.
But now with a minute 22 to go in the third, here comes Calvary Day.
That's right.
Got some confidence going.
Gotten on the board.
Put together an impressive drive in this quarter.
Lots of momentum.
Again 21-0 It was that was a score at the 736 mark.
And Lions have gotten nothing going offensively since then.
So.
Talking for about 18 minutes of time.
Handoff left side.
That's Jones.
Good.
Look at him once again.
If you're Calvary Day, just get it right.
No need to be in a hurry.
Mobley talking to the sideline lots of time.
Looking to balance things off a little bit more.
He had that one drive that was exclusively through the air, trying to establish something now on the ground.
Yeah, that was their first yardage on the ground here in this half 14.
Mobley Hicks right.
And met immediately.
Nice catch there by Pinckney and met immediately by Hardy.
Yep.
Masen Hardy is out there.
Stroud Morris number 12.
We're out out there as well.
Third down.
If you want to sustain this drive.
Third and two.
, looking at probably the last play of the quarter here.
No confusion there by number 3, Jaylen Hicks.
Let's see if they get this play off band is playing.
They shouldn't be doing that.
And they'll let the time.
Expire in the third quarter that was owned by Calvary Day.
What a way to come back.
They win the quarter 7-0 And they go into the fourth down by one touchdown.
State championship is on the line here at the Benz.
The final 12 minutes on the way right here on GPB.

Let's go now to Maddie for little injury update.
Maddie.
Hey guys, just being on the Calvary Day sideline right now.
MJ Knight you guys know the last time that the Cavaliers took the field, especially with offense, you took a pretty big hit that led to that touchdown to make it just a one score game.
He's just been walking across the sideline with his helmet off in the last couple of drives.
While the Cavaliers were on defense.
Not really sure if he's going to be able to check back into this game, but we'll keep an eye out for you guys, okay?
We appreciate that.
Madison.
Thanks so much.
As we certainly.
Boy, he has made some big plays.
And in fact, he made two big catches there, 33 yards and 22 yards back to back.
That final, the 22 yards where he took the hard hit and came off the field there to put them down inside the five yard line to set up that touchdown.
Sam and I get the feeling we may not see him back in this game.
The way he's walking and he doesn't have his helmet at all.
Remember, he is your long snapper too.
We get into a situation for a field goal attempt or punt.
He's usually not that guy and he's usually the guy that handles that, right?
Right.
So third and two now.
Big play for Mobley Lewis number 20 is in the backfield looking his way.
And nice job defensively to break that up.
Number 33 Albert Wilham was there.
That play was read very well.
Lewis Gillespie had a chance to make a catch.
Boy he got a hand on it.
Just a deflected a little bit.
And Lewis did everything right.
Those feet were in bounds and everything.
Nice job by there.
Take a look at the yards right now.
Calvary Day still negative rushing yards.
But again that 88 yard drive a moment ago for the touchdown.
All of those passing yards Hebron Christian.
Meanwhile 116 yards at the half.
So only 39 total yards there in that third quarter.
Much more balanced though still in their offensive attack in the Cavaliers got a whistle here.
Another false start.
And a snap.
Delay of game against the Dolphins kicking team.
Delay of game.
Penalties penalties.
Penalties.
Not the way you want to start the final quarter of the season.
No.
So they'll walk it off.
Five now back from the eight Mobley quarterback.
Also the punter straight up in the air.
Not much distance with that.
Needs a good bounce.
He gets a little bit of a roll but not much.
Just to the 27 yard line.
So a 19 yard punt.
We saw that in the first half.
It was a 20 yard punt, right?
That led to Hebron Christian scoring a touchdown.
Let's see if they can take advantage here.
They got a short field to work with.
And let's see which quarterback comes out here to lead the Lions is nine.
Or if it's ten.
We haven't seen ten Costello very much in this game.
He threw the one interception in his first throw.
And there he is the senior coming out.
Again if you just joined us he was the starter to begin the season.
Got injured.
The number 2 quarterback also was injured.
And then Jordan Green who was part of the competition over the summer, moved to tight end with the two guys in front of him, came back in and played so well that he's now the starter.
They shared time at quarterback.
Handoff left side to Caldwell still on his feet.
Good surge there.
Lewis finally wrestles him out of bounds.
Wojcik, a defender.
Kenneth Baker had a good shot at him at number 6 and tries to hold on, but he gets away from him.
Boy has gets away.
Good.
Look at Kenneth Baker number 6.
Four yard gain.
Big series here for this Calvary Day defense.
Can they do it again?
Caldwell again.
And it's Baker with the big stick.
Big time.
One on one tackle for Baker.
The junior linebacker.
You didn't get away from me this time.
You got to play it down here.
And six.
We got a player down like maybe cramp.
And we've had some of that in this building this week.
Last couple of days.
That's Curry back up on his feet.
He saw that.
Class A Division two game earlier on Monday.
Caden Prothro, the star tight end heading to Georgia.
He's down for the longest I've ever seen for cramping.
He was he was down for a long time.
Really was.
We've seen a number of players have that happen to him.
Got some fluids in him.
Came back to help Bolden to her fourth straight championship.
Kenny Dallas has won titles, most recently at Trinity.
As we mentioned, first year at Hebron Christian trying for their second title and his first as head of that program.
Talked about the adjustments last spring, coming in mid mid-year during the school year, stayed with friends.
Hebron Christian trying a direct snap there to the running back.
Caldwell.
Got a flag?
Cavaliers say it's.
Against the snap.
We false start, but false start offense.
Against the team in Black and they are right.
Five yard march off.
Third and ten.
And so this Hebron Christian offense again got the ball on the 27-2 plays later.
Still right there trying to find a way to move the ball.
It's been tough for him here in the second half.
It has been that.
As Gray Costello.
Look at the penalties.
Calvary Day 11 of 60 and Hebron now early on just one penalty early.
But they've made some mistakes now seven penalties, 42 yards.
What a confusion there.
They got.
They're going to burn a time out.
Time out.
Yeah something was something is amiss.
They're going to get it worked out.
We'll get ourselves worked out as well.
10:56 to go in the fourth quarter.
21 14 Hebron Christian on top.
Trying to add to that total, bring home a title.
More football coming up next.

Appreciate you guys all the work you do.
Make sure we know we appreciate you.
Absolutely we do.
You hear Larry and Sam and Maddie.
You don't hear those guys.
You know Russ Aaron, our producer Jeff Parker director.
All right third down now.
Costello gets out to his man complete and then some.
That's how you break through Austin.
Kitchings has been itching to get into the end zone.
And finally they make it happen.
And the scoring drought ends for the Lions.
And that is big for him.
The yards after the catch watch goes out there.
Kitchings there's the big block that comes in there from 76 Fletcher Turk and that's what brings him right in for the touchdown.
That's a big play for Hebron Christian to finally break through.
And a time-out.
Well taken a lot of confusion there going in on that third down play.
Had to burn their second time-out.
Of this half.
And it pays off.
Call that time-out.
And when you come out you execute.
That was time well spent.
You only got one time-out remaining but you made it pay off.
That's right.
Ardue on to kick.
And just like that the Lions expand back to a two score lead.
28 14.
Scoring drive.
Brought to you by DBHDD.
And the new Red ribbon.
365 curriculum three plays 27 yards.
Again the short punt set that up just 58 seconds is all it took.
That guy right there.
Austin Kitchings got a big smile on his face.
Playing the state championship game.
You get a touchdown.
It's pretty big being shut out for the back half of the second quarter.
All the third quarter they come through here with the big play taking advantage.
That's his second short punt.
They've taken advantage of in this game.
All phases of the game.
They're all phases of the game.
Your offense, your defense and your special teams.
And we've seen crucial plays with special teams in this game today.
Absolutely.
Ardue to kick.
It off.
Into the end zone for Lewis.
And it'll come out to the 20.
Now if you're Calvary Day boy, you played a spirited second half really coming on strong here and now you're up against it.
I mean you're going to have to really.
You can't afford the mistakes.
You can't afford the one or two yard plays.
You've got to go vertical.
And you got to be cognizant of the clock.
That becomes your biggest enemy.
Yeah.
Again still on the in the game -20 yards rushing.
And that's why they've gone to to the passing game here in the second half.
And they've gotten some success from that.
Look at James Mobley the junior quarterback 17 of 29 169 yards.
First down pass from him up top to his man.
He's got him complete.
That's Pinckney taken out of bounds.
There by Jack Mostiler.
But a good gain getting it downfield moving the ball.
But a little more urgency now you need two scores.
Yes Pinckney shakes one defender.
They got great pursuit though.
All come over and finish things off.
Mostiler Albert Wilham.
Good energy.
Both sides.
Perry in motion.
Throws it up in the air.
Bounce somehow.
Caught it or not, it's incomplete.
Trying to connect with Jaylen.
Hicks right there.
He goes in and it collides.
I think that was Stroud Morris.
And ball goes straight up.
Boy, when that happens.
Yeah.
I thought that Hicks might have been able to grab it, but it was not incomplete.
It'll be a third down and three.
Now.
One more look at it.
One more look.
Big hit right there and.
Morris almost comes up with the interception.
Yeah.
We love the energy.
Love the play call.
There.
Mobley.
He's got some room first down and then some.
Gets out of bounds and that'll be a penalty.
That's going to come back.
Jaylen Hicks after the play.
That's a tough break for Calvary Day.
You know Mobley done a good job.
Saw what he needed to do to get to the yard.
Yard marker, get the first down and that just wasn't needed.
You're right in front of the Hebron bench.
Yep.
Well, the personal foul blindside block defense, 15 yard penalty.
So 12 penalties now for 75 yards.
Referee Mike Manier forgot to turn his mic on.
Or the batteries could be out.
He's he's had to turn it on so often as we talked about.
So it was after the play.
I he's got to correct what he said.
Here we.
Go.
Personal foul blind side block offense.
On offense.
Yeah.
He said it was defense.
Yeah an offense yeah.
So for the Cavaliers at Calvary Day 12th penalty 75 yards.
Now in the game it's just been.
And at moments like this they've just been killers.
So it was after the play Mobley had the first down.
But at about the 32 they'll now walk it back off from the 31 to the 16 yard line.
It'll be first down from their and the chain game.
Working that out.
Clock.
Clock is stopped while they figure out what that's about.
Get it back to the 16.
There we go.
And Coach Cameron sees something he doesn't like.
He's complaining about something.
He's complaints.
Up here.
We're going to fall on deaf ears.
Still complaining.
All right.
First and ten from the 16.
Quick throw out.
Oh, nearly intercepted.
Oh, Stroud Morris was right there.
They've already had two picks.
We've had a couple go off their fingertips.
Morris boy he got both hands on that one.
Just couldn't bring it in.
He knew he had one.
Get away from him.
Yeah.
Senior linebacker 511165.
Mobley.
Trying to hit Ty Pinckney.
Well defended there by Jalil Goley.
Incomplete third down.
Is another look.
Watch number 2.
Come in there and knock it out.
Goley.
Just a sophomore.
Already has an offer from Pitt.
He'll get more college attention.
Yes, he will.
In the years to come.
He's making plays like that one.
That's right.
Third down.
Now for Mobley.
Breaks through the pocket, gets away.
The first down and more still on his feet.
James Mobley with a nice move.
Gets hit there at the end, but tough play, big time scramble and the first down from the 16 all the way out to the 32.
So about a 16 yard pickup.
As the quarterback.
He's got a lead.
He can't find his receiver.
He sees some green grass.
Makes the most of it here.
Gets the first down.
Did take a lick there at the end.
Yeah sure.
Did.
Keeps this drive alive.
Jones tries to spin away from the tackle by Morris but nothing doing.
Caden Jones with a touchdown last quarter to make it 21 14.
Stopped there.
It's a second down play three yard loss.
Stadium scoreboard still has it.
Fourth and five but that's not the case.
Incomplete pass trying to hit Williams.
Shawn Williams.
And he had little time there.
He rolled to his left just a bit.
Had some time.
Missed his connection though.
Had some issues with the scoreboard.
It should be right now.
Be third and 13 for Calvary Day.
And there we go.
Now it's corrected.
Okay.
You see one thing there?
You look on the field at the sticks and say, hey, this.
When in doubt, go to the sticks.
Yeah, right.
All else fails.
Lewis in motion.
Mobley a lot of room.
Has a man downfield.
Oh, but he overthrew him trying to get it to Pinckney.
Being guarded by Goley.
And that'll be.
Bring up a fourth down play.
Man.
I almost think you have to go for it here.
Four down territory, two touchdowns.
And we're thinking that way.
Again that the quarterback is also the putter.
James Mobley.
So.
He stays in the game.
That doesn't mean much.
But the offense does to Emerson Lewis is there.
Looks like he's going to punt.
The reaction by Mobley says it all.
So he's going to punt it here with 837 to play in the game.
Got a whistle.
Flag on the field.
We had personnel issue.
Prior to the snap delay of game offense.
There you go.
Calvary Day taking too long to decide.
And yet another penalty.
When they go back and look at this at the game film, the game tape, they'll look at all the little little things.
They stubbed their foot here and there.
And again in crucial moments.
It's tough.
They played a fantastic game.
So fourth and 18 now back at the 24 Mathurin just past midfield low kick.
He'll take that.
Fumbles it on the ground.
And there's a flag.
He gets it back.
And another flag.
Make that Caldwell.
Flag back at the 44 yard line.
Let's see what the call is.
Producer Russ Herron said earlier so much laundry that flags are going to do laundry before the next game.
Clean up all these flags.
It's a good dad joke right there.
Yeah.
Wow.
See, we can't hear Russ.
He can't he can't answer.
So you know.
Wow.
Oh, we all go back so many years.
Nothing but love.
He knows that.
Absolutely, absolutely.
We got 830 to play in this game.
Yeah.
It's just.
Darren play.
Here we go.
We have holding against the receiving team ten yard penalty from the end of the run into the kicker.
Okay.
Goes the other way.
Mark that off.
Yeah.
Both teams racking up some penalties 13 for Calvary Day.
Mm-hmm.
And that's the seventh now for Hebron Christian.
42 yards.
So they'll start back at their own 39 yard line 8:30 to go again.
Two more championship games coming up next Jefferson versus Sandy Creek Thomas County versus Gainesville.
After that Caldwell breaks free flag on the play.
Finally knocked out of down after a long game, but that may be coming back.
It's back at the beginning of the run and that may be a holding against the offense.
That's usually what it means.
Everyone's walking back towards the original line of scrimmage, so been waiting for that kind of play from Caldwell to break free and show the kind of speed and power that we've been watching all year from him.
For the Lions.
Coach Cameron time not on his side.
During the play.
Here we go.
And we're holding.
Gets the offense 10 yards from the spot of the foul.
Repeat the down okay.
Another holding call, this time against Hebron Christian.
We give credit to Mike Minier for good.
Strong our our field camp field audio can pick that up because it's.
Mike clearly has died again with all the calls.
Well that's the 21st penalty total called in this game with still 8:21 to go.
We were working out this officiating group well, especially our referee.
He's getting to work out here this afternoon.
Give him some hot tea with lemon after the game.
Working those pipes.
He's earned it.
He has okay first and 17 now Costello the handoff and a big time defensive stop there by the Cavaliers.
Number 51.
Lawson Bentley.
Was there McCormick also there on the.
Stop making the stop on Caldwell.
This is big.
And you can see Hebron Christian again to be very slow and methodical about their play calls.
Calvary Day has all three time-outs left.
They've got to get two touchdowns.
He saw 21.
Nothing lead trimmed down to 21 14 in the third quarter before answering.
A few moments ago, the touchdown pass.
Another whistle, a flag flying again.
Go again.
Got a delay.
A game.
Against the offense?
Nope.
Well time out.
No flag on the play.
Hebron called a time out.
Okay.
No flag on the play.
Okay, there we go.
All right.
No flag for once.
We'll let referee Mike Bernier gargle something over there.
That'd be good for him.
Right?
We'll stop as well.
All right.
7:15 to go here in Christian trying to close out their second straight championship.
We're back with more after this.

I think cotton would have been a better choice.
Cotton?
Yeah, it's come a long way.
You know, nowadays, cotton breeze and wicks moisture.
Great.
Plus, buying cotton means supporting Georgia farmers.
I think that's wonderful.

Getting ready here salmon.
Trying to think how many years have you and I done this together?
My goodness.
It's been several Dunn several games over the years, but I think they think 2019 I think was.
Maybe that.
I think.
That was one.
And then and then COVID years went through.
And so yeah.
It's they're the ones where we did the ones from 14th.
Street, from the studio during COVID and a couple years there.
Yeah.
So it's yeah.
Yeah.
Same time next year.
It's always.
Good, always great a lot.
Of fun.
That's right, that's right.
So always a lot of fun.
Always awesome.
Always awesome stuff.
Best seat in the house.
Yeah.
Best.
Best week of the year.
That's right.
Good company here as well.
Mathurin on second down again.
Had the big run earlier.
He's so elusive.
Finds a way to still get on his feet.
Finally wrestled out of bounds there a great play by McCormick.
And we have another flag on the field.
Oh my goodness.
This one may come back.
It's back at the 33 yard line which was near the original line of scrimmage.
Yeah.
When you see one there you almost know what that means.
Yep.
And everyone slowly walking back that way.
Both teams.
You know we talked about Calvary Day shooting themselves in the foot.
Hebron Christian has a gun that has gone awry as well.
Yeah.
Here in the second half.
Yeah.
Much more so in the second half than in the first half.
Yes.
During the play we have holding offense 10 yards from the spot of the foul.
All right.
Well he can put that on a tape and just play it over and over again.
Or played on an audio clip a digital clip.
That's the third holding call here on this series by the Lions.
There's got to be something.
When you look at Coach Dallas over there, he's got to be.
Come on fellas.
Yeah, we got we got a lead here.
We got to finish this game.
We got to keep our composure.
Yep.
A couple more holding calls.
They'll be back in the stands over here behind the goalpost.
They keep going.
Going back this way in the wrong direction.
Boy look at this.
All right.
Second and 25.
Now back to their own 23.
Direct snap to Caldwell powers ahead.
Taken down there.
Great job by Kenneth Baker.
Not before a gain and probably some positive yards.
They get a play off without some laundry on the on the deck.
For change.
Direct snap.
He's just going to lean forward and drive as far as he can go.
That's my guy.
Baker one of those.
One of those white jerseys hanging on.
My guy.
Bill Raftery says lingerie on the deck.
Yeah, yeah.
Third and 15.
They've got to get up to 49.
Clock is still ticking now under 6:30 to go.
Calvary Day has to have a stop here.
Another direct snap.
Fake handoff to Mathurin.
Caldwell keeps it short gain and brings up fourth down in the punt.
Team will come on so Calvary Day thanks in part to some holding penalties by the Lions.
They hold.
Calvary Day and Calvary Day Barnes.
It's first time out to save some time here at 614.
Because they have time-outs.
Yeah, Hebron has none.
Does not.
Just a reminder once again second of four games here coming up today we saw Pope beat McEachern earlier in a thriller 14 13 that came right down to the final one.
And that one that was remarkable.
Oh, it was incredible.
Disappointing for the Indians that they came up short.
But congrats to the Greyhounds.
Coming up next, the boys three a championship.
It's Jefferson taking on Sandy Creek.
And then later tonight the boys 5-A championship.
Thomas County Central taking on the Red Elephants of Gainesville.
We'll have that call for you just a moment.
Continue here on GPB.
Our final night of coverage here from downtown Atlanta.
As we've said before, it's always really a thrill.
Hey hey, hey.
And it's Old Home week because so many of the people that we work with, GPB, are people that we see, you know, each time of this year.
Yeah, one's busy and doing what they normally do, but they all bring it together for this week.
It's great to have everyone together.
We've all worked together over the years, spent time together, share pictures, tell stories of our families and fantastic, talented team.
Love being here every year.
Great punt.
Getting away here by Morris rolls out of bounds.
Keeping it away from Shawn Williams Amire Barnes near the 25 yard line.
That's where the Cavaliers will start now.
First and ten.
Now the clock has become a factor here.
We got 604 to play in this game.
Yeah the running game has as we said again has been not efficient.
So it's been nonexistent for them.
So at this point really you go through and it's a pass play all the way through.
But Hebron Christian also knows that as well.
It's true.
No surprises there.
The thing is, making making completions and watching the clock.
Yep.
Mobley now 18-35 been picked off a couple of times.
176 yards.
We've also seen him go to the ground a couple of times in the last series.
Will he take advantage of that if they overplay?
Like he does right here.
Take what the defense gives you first down and then some takes on Bo Bennett head on, leans forward a couple extra yards and a great play there on first down.
That's your quarterback being the leader, right?
He doesn't see anything there.
He sees a way to make some yards.
He does it moves the chains and gets the first down.
Take another look at number 14.
Looks looks.
He's got to go.
First down quick throw out to Pinckney.
He's brought down Morris is there also Hardy as well?
Ty Pinckney just a sophomore receiver, called his name several times a day.
Good play on first down, no huddle.
Now trying to stay active.
Get organized.
Perry, Hicks and Pinckney all their receivers on the right side.
Lewis now comes in the backfield replacing Middleton Emerson Lewis.
Mobley well, this time they were ready for him.
Morgan Jordan junior number 70.
The defensive lineman brings him down.
Short gain there will bring up third and about three.
Under 5 minutes.
Now big third down play.
Lewis in.
Motion.
Mobley oh had Williams but he couldn't hang on.
Tried to run before he had the ball.
Heard the footsteps behind him.
How about Mobley might have just run it himself.
Yeah.
He had plenty of green grass.
He could have just kept it and stepped out of bounds and picked up the first down.
So clock stopped.
Now at 442.
A must have right here for Calvary Day.
Mobley going.
To.
Lewis.
It's that man again.
There he is.
And a first down.
Big play on fourth down to make the conversion.
Emerson Lewis boy.
Just over the out outstretched arms there of Beau Bennett.
Lewis once again factoring into things for this team.
Calvary Day now two of three on fourth down conversions in the game.
They keep the drive alive.
4:37 to go.
Got to get two touchdowns.
Mobley lots of time this time.
Gets it to Pinckney hard hit out of bounds and that'll be a penalty against the Lions defenders right there.
How about Ty Pinckney the sophomore holding on.
They're going to get Jack Mostiler.
Here it is one more time.
Got that foot down.
And boy they knocked the ball out.
And apparently they'll be the type of hit that was.
It might be.
Yeah.
Think of that.
We have a defenseless player penalty against the defense 15 yards from the previous spot.
First down.
Yeah I'm looking at Dave Reynolds over here was Dave, can we hear Dave right quick David were you expecting that call?
Can we get Dave outdated penalties now.
11 penalties for Hebron.
Dave, really quick, we get your thoughts on that call.
Yeah.
So rule change was I'll finish this play.
Hubbard Mobley going to the right hand to get that ball away and avoid the sack.
Dave, you were saying a moment ago about that that defensive player penalty.
So.
So the referee gave the incorrect signal that was not targeting as a rule change a year or two ago about a hit on a defensive player.
And so we saw right there as the defender was trying to blow up the tackler, the the receiver that drew the 15 yard penalty for the illegal contact okay.
So it's not targeting okay.
We need more of a wrap up contact to not have a foul on that play.
Okay okay okay.
Because he didn't try to wrap him up.
He just went at him.
So.
Okay.
Correct.
Okay okay.
Thanks for that Dave.
Appreciate it.
Incomplete play there.
But a smart play stops the clock at 425 and avoids the sack as well.
Lewis in motion.
Takes the catch trying to get the first down.
Lewis won't tell him.
I got something for you.
Close to a first down.
Big play there.
Gets out of bounds, stops the clock.
Emerson Lewis.
We called his name quite a bit.
He just goes in and takes on Masen Hardy power move.
There.
That young man, wherever you need him.
Right?
That's right.
Offense, defense, special teams.
He's done it today.
Nine yard pickup.
So third and one.
Mobley keeps it himself.
Throws into the end zone.
And touchdown Pinckney.
Or is it not taken away by Hardy.
They're going to call it a touchdown.
That's the signal on the ground.
Let's see what happens.
Does it matter if you come down.
With his feet.
Did come down.
If he comes down.
With it Dave Reynolds, let's get you in here.
He came down with it.
Does that mean it's a touchdown?
Let's let's see if we can get a replay here, okay?
And see if the feet.
Okay.
Well.
Feet come down and he pulls it out after the feet touched the ground.
So I imagine our video review staff is going to shut this place down.
And.
And review this previous ruling.
Here it comes.
Yeah.
You can hear the reaction because these videos, these replays were showing are showing on the big screen.
Video monitors the halo here atop the stadium.
Here's Mike Benner.
The previous play is under review for catch no catch okay.
All right.
So this is big.
This is huge.
You talked about Pinckney doing big things today.
Here he is.
Has the ball.
Looks like he comes down with it.
Are Masen Hardy comes away with it.
This should tell us foot is down.
The foot is down Dave.
Go ahead.
So you do have one rule that's very interesting here.
We don't see a whole lot.
Is what we call a simultaneous catch.
Okay, so if two players, the offense and the defense, we say have joint possession at the same time, then the offense is ball at that spot.
So that's where you might be able to on the on the field at least rule a touchdown.
Well sort of like in baseball Ty goes to the runner.
I think most umpires say that's not a real thing.
Yeah.
Right.
Right.
That's not the rule book.
That's what I called it as.
A kid.
You said that to an official.
That's right.
Hey.
Man, who am I on offense?
Are you on offense?
You say that to an official, right?
That's right, that's right.
Ty goes to the runner.
Notice how right away he's in.
I'm not going there.
Yeah.
Well, this may be one of the more entertaining reviews that we've seen here this week, but we'll see.
Again, we're thankful we have the review that the GHSA put this in place for moments like this to make sure we get the call right.
We will add as well.
Like we mentioned yesterday, Dave did let us know that while we have the the place that we're showing you, the officials also have some other angles that we may not be privy to.
And, Dave, well, we got you here.
Remind us about the officials who get to work these games because they have to do some work because they don't work with with this replay system every week, like we see the college officials and the officials do.
After review after review, the ruling on the field is confirmed with a touchdown.
Okay, there we go.
The touchdown.
Yeah.
So the officiating staff every single week, of course, of playoffs is evaluated by reviewing Pannell great out well enough to make it to the next round.
Once they get to this level, there is a replay review staff that is trained on that side of things, and it's their job to catch up the officials on the field because like you just said, it's one week a year that the on field officials have this great venue, all these camera angles, they can slow it down, speed it up, zoom in, zoom out, all those things that help get the call correct.
Dave, we appreciate that.
Grady Shiver on for the extra point and it's good.
Get a defender break through there.
He sure.
Did have a chance to get a hand on that.
Was close.
What an answer.
Your scoring drive.
Brought to you by DBHDD in the new Red ribbon 365 curriculum, eight plays, 75 yards.
But most importantly took you less than 2 minutes to get it done.
Absolutely.
They moved quickly and got the points on the board.
We talked about how much they have to be cognizant of the clock right now, and they did an excellent job of managing it.
We got 4:11 to go in this game, and now the defense can go back out talking about Calvary Day and get the ball back.
It gives their offense a chance to go back and tie this game.
An outstanding what they've been able to do here in this second half.
Coach Jason Cameron first time in this arena.
It's a head coach in the state championship game.
This man well he's been here a few times before.
Yes, he has.
Talked about his staff.
He decided to bring in Mike Davis as his offensive coordinator.
Jonathan Guess called his own offensive plays before and an onside kick here.
Oh that ball is out.
Loose.
Yeah.
The call is.
What a time for that.
Wow.
The officials are convening.
Still talking about it.
It's loose.
It's right there.
And he's got it.
Trevon Deshawn Wylie.
It traveled the necessary distance.
That may be the question from the 40.
We're going to huddle up the officials here.
Now, I didn't see an official make it official.
Official?
Official call.
That's officially their ball.
And it didn't point in either direction.
Let's see if we get a call here.
The last play is under review.
The ruling on the field.
The ball traveled 10 yards and then was recovered by the kicking team.
It is under review.
All right.
Okay.
What a turn of events here.
Here's a look.
He goes for 10 yards.
And it seems like it may have caught Hebron Christian by surprise.
I think it did.
You know, usually you think about that.
You put your hands team with just, you know, up front your receivers and running backs, quarterbacks.
Did they touch it first right there.
You touch it before.
Kenneth Baker may have touched it there just before the 10 yards.
But here's the question.
And we bring in Dave Reynolds again.
If it touches the player on the returning team first, is it then a live ball?
Yeah.
Once the receiving team touched the football, live ball, fair game.
Whoever it is, in my opinion, I think you just mentioned number six.
Yeah, he's on the kicking team.
Right.
Touch the ball before the ball went 10 yards.
But here's my question.
I think it was 44 stepped up.
My question is if he touched it first before that 10 yards okay.
So then then six is legal to touch.
It correct.
Okay okay I didn't see it that way.
There you go.
I saw first touch by the kicking team number 6 okay.
Short of the 10 yards it has to go.
That's fair.
Or or touched by the receiving team.
So there.
You go.
I'm just throwing out possibilities.
I like it.
There you go.
Here we go again.
Let's see here.
Watch number 6.
Watch 44 for the 44.
Touch it.
That's what's tough to see okay I don't know if we can see this angle.
Right there by number 6.
The right hand on six.
Yeah.
David Wyatt official.
And we're not or I'm not.
I. Not either.
Am not either.
Now, let's give a little bit of credit on the field.
Yeah, a lot of bodies, a small space.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's tough to officiate.
The ball is shaped differently so it bounces weird sometimes.
So it's not not an easy call to get correct.
That's why we have all these camera angles.
That your staff brings to the table in these games.
Yeah.
No, it's it's it's awesome again to have this, as we've said before, we've been in this situation before when we did not have that, we didn't have the cameras in the system.
So we applaud it.
We know it causes for some delays here and there, but get the call right.
Two more games still to come.
411 here in this one in regulation.
Here's a call.
And here we go.
After review.
The call on the field is overturned.
We have.
We have first touching by Calvary Day at the 48.
It will be first and ten for Hebron at the 48.
And as Dave pointed out good call by Dave.
That's the right call.
Calvary Day doesn't like it, but it's the right call.
Okay, so now if you're Calvary Day, you've got to keep this momentum and have the big stop here.
You have two time-outs left.
You know, they're going to try to do what all they can to try to slow this game down and run some clock.
That's what you do.
Yep.
Costello is in the game at quarterback.
Sorry Sam.
You got the lead at this point.
You want to take all the air out of the ball here and all the time off the clock.
Calvary Day does have two time-outs to stop the clock.
Hebron Christian has none.
They just want that clock to move right now.
That's right.
Hand off to Caldwell.
Short gain there.
Clock is stopped at 4 minutes as Calvary Day will take its second time-out after no gain in the second and ten.
And the ball at the 48 of Calvary Day.
4 minutes to play in this game.
And there's so much that has taken place.
We talk about all the penalties, self-inflicted things that have taken place for both teams.
In this game.
Yet here we are, here, a score apart with time left on the clock for both of these teams.
Man Calvary Day pulls up that onside kick.
Yeah.
You know, that's a that's pretty amazing.
They traveled well from Savannah.
We were talking about their road here and the team's road here.
First finals appearance again since 2013.
You mentioned before they won the region championship four straight years.
Finished second this year.
The only loss was to Jenkins.
But they've been in the quarterfinals or better for the last six years running.
So just outstanding run by them in the playoffs every single year.
Trying to cap it off for the championship here.
Not a run but a surprise play.
It's Costello out to Kitchings they connected for a touchdown earlier here in the second half.
But this play goes absolutely nowhere.
Snuffed out and stopped by the Cavaliers defense and brings up third down.
White jerseys over there.
Deshawn Wylie number 21.
One of the leaders.
They swarm to the football.
Clock ticking 335.
Coach Cameron that one time-out.
Keep it in his pocket right here and see what happens here.
Third down and ten.
Third down and nine.
They now give it 1 yard gain to the 47.
But for the direct snap now.
It's Caldwell hand off to Mathurin trying to string it out.
Lewis is there for the stop loss of two.
And now they call their final time-out.
Calvary Day makes the big play very likely, bringing the punt team out.
And a chance to get the ball back.
We'll see what happens.
Thrill three on the clock.
What a play by Lewis.
Fends off the block.
Emerson Lewis.
Justin Junior, one of the players that Coach Cameron is going to count on next year in 2026 for this team as they try to get back here to Atlanta.
16 offers already SEC schools loving Alabama has offered.
South Carolina has offered.
See him playing on Saturdays in the not too distant future.
Shawn Williams back to punt.
Back to receive, I should say for Calvary Day.
Morris to punt.
Gets it away to Shawn Williams takes it in at the 14 and is brought down.
No fair catch.
Yeah.
Beau Bennett huge.
Second big special teams stop.
We've seen him make here this afternoon.
No doubt about that one.
Yep.
Made sure of it.
So 2:56 to go Calvary Day the 21-0 deficit early.
They have clawed their way back and now they have the ball.
No time-outs and they've got to go 80:06 yards.
This is a team that really struggled offensively in the first half but have come on strong in the second half.
They've had momentum Sam for most of most of this of this game after halftime.
They have had that.
Can they make it count.
Let's see what the offense can do this time.
Mobley tripped up in the backfield.
Max Steve is there again.
The region player of the year.
What a time for that play.
Mentioned offers from Davidson, Gardner-Webb.
He's a senior.
Mobley.
Caught by Hicks short of a first down and the jawing continues.
Yeah.
No time for that.
And the clock is still running as well.
Clock is moving.
Third down and one.
Got a third down play.
Lewis out to the right.
Safety valve.
For Mobley going to go deep to Lewis, but I think he's going to be out of bounds.
Yeah.
Couldn't get a foot down.
Out of bounds goes out of bounds.
And now you bring up a fourth down play.
Once again you had enough yards in front of you.
Yeah.
If you quarterback right there, you walk right up and you get your first down.
I know what he's trying to do.
He's trying to complete a pass and stop the clock.
But now you're on a fourth down play.
You're back to the wall.
This is your ball game right here.
That's right.
And Lewis's helmet came off.
So he's got to sit out this play.
Your big playmaker fourth and one.
Mobley lots of time going deep trying to get it to Hicks.
Intercepted picked off Jarvis Mathurin.
What a time for a big play for him on the defensive side right.
We've seen him a big touchdown run early.
And here he is doing great things on defense to help seal this victory for Hebron Christian.
Huge play.
Watch this.
Going up trying to get it to Hicks.
Overthrown just a little bit.
Mathurin is there with the fantastic hands.
And what a game for him.
You mentioned the big touchdown run and the defensive stop here that may have sealed it for Hebron Christian.
Minute 41 to play.
Now.
Calvary can't stop the clock.
What a game.
Gray Costello is going to come on here.
Senior quarterback.
Get an opportunity to close this one out.
The victory celebration.
Kneel down.
Clock run.
Clock rolling right now.
What a season for this Calvary Day Cavaliers team.
What a year for Kenny Dallas and his crew.
As a coach, been here so many times.
His family watching his son, a sophomore in the team we mentioned earlier.
The older brothers teasing him.
We all got championships with dad.
Now it's your turn.
You better get one too.
And he's about a minute away from getting that.
Second down.
Kneel down.
Coming.
And they'll do it one more time as they begin to celebrate.
Long faces on the sideline of Calvary Day.
They worked hard today.
Did some good things in the second half, but not enough.
That ought to do it.
Wow.
Matthew.
Counting down.
Mathurin.
And there it is.
Hebron Christian.
For the second year in a row, state champions of the private division.
What a ball game!
Wow, what an effort we saw here today.
Both teams.
And about.
And think about how we saw the first points scored in this game.
Yeah Larry.
Right.
The bad snap.
1 yard one possession one play.
Yep.
It's a little things.
And I tell you I give my hats off to Calvary Day.
They come up short on this.
But to your point they're very they're very first series the bad snap.
They give it give the ball over on the 1 yard line.
Took them one play to go in for the touchdown.
You basically began the game eight points down.
And and then you have penalties.
Yeah you have trouble getting things going.
The pre-snap penalties just set in throughout the first half of this game before they really got things worked out and got into the end zone.
You think you take that away in the early half where this game would be right now, where it could have been?
Yeah.
Anything going offensively?
I mean the first half only 53 yards total offense.
Down 21-0 They get one score.
Make it 217.
They're at halftime.
But the way they came back and fought and they have a chance with this was really something special.
Tough loss for them as they bow out.
Just their second loss this season 11-2 what a first season for for their head coach.
Make it 12-2 for Jason Cameron.
His first year as head coach of this program.
And a lot of big things coming up with them.
Again, 16 straight playoff appearances.
We know they'll be back in the playoffs next year and maybe back here in Atlanta as well.
Absolutely, absolutely.
The players that remain from this, this this experience and it's you know, it's going to sting.
It's going to sting.
It always does when you come this far and you have the season that you had to get to the championship game and have a chance, have a legitimate chance to play with a team that that won it last year.
And things just don't go your way.
Some things that break down for you, they don't happen.
And you know you'll be thinking about it.
The bus ride back to Savannah will be a little less pleasant, but in time, you know the guys.
And the thing about it is, how long before these guys get back to work?
You've heard the stories about the mat drills, the conditioning, the running.
It will start all over again, probably late January or February.
Absolutely.
And now the celebration begins.
There.
Kenny Daniels, what a story for him.
Landmark.
Assessing it.
Eagle's Landing Christian Academy, Trinity and GHSA.
We talked about the title game down at Mercer GHSA back up here.
He's been to Mercer's 5 yards Stadium with the title on the line under the Georgia Dome and Georgia State.
Now Mercedes Benz.
And the first year at this program he's got him back on top again.
Unusual no question at all.
By the way, Calvary Day right now was on the stage as they get the runner up trophy.
A little bittersweet for them, but when the emotions subside, they'll be very proud.
I think of what they accomplished.
Very much, very much proud of what they accomplished to be here and the path they took to get here.
Right.
You know, not easy at all.
Went over fellowship to get to this game.
So yes, they'll think back with a lot of pride of what they did the season.
They had, the big victory they had just to get to this championship game and and to be on this stage.
Absolutely.
No question at all.
He talked about again, just the.
Both of these teams, we talked about Jason Cameron, the Calvary Day coach, 39-years-old, played college basketball and now one up, a football coach.
And what he's got going there, Calvary Day is something special.
Truly, truly special, truly, truly special, but also something special.
This Hebron Christian team we talked about this way this season started really tough.
They lost the game to McCallie.
The very tough program out of Tennessee.
And then they get the win over Blessed Trinity.
And it seemed like the light bulb just went on from there.
Right.
They can and get that win.
And it has propelled them to this point.
The celebration begins as Calvary Day heads to their locker room, and we see that Hebron Christian Lyons taking the stage right now, getting ready for the big moment.
Center stage here on the floor of Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Let's go now to John Nelson for the announcement.
Thank you very much, Larry Smith.
It is time to present trophy number 2 on day number 3, which means it's trophy number 11 of 13.
Total.
First and foremost though, shout out to everybody that made it up from the Colton Calvary Day fantastic season for Jason Cameron and the Cavs.
One of the great fan bases here in the state of Georgia.
Thanks for dropping by here.
Great season in 2025.
Finishes up here at Mercedes-Benz.
But it's time to present a trophy to a champ.
And to do that it's our friends from Alfa Insurance and the executive director of the Georgia High School Association, Dr.
Tim Scott.
All right, guys, first of all, congratulations to the Hebron community.
What great support.
Give them a big hand.
And now, coach, on behalf of Alfa Insurance, we'd like to present the state championship trophy to Hebron for 2025 state champions.
Let's go.
So, coach, what has this ride been like for you?
On the advice of a friend taking a gig and you go from one end to the other?
Yeah.
It's been it's been unbelievable.
Listen, I can't even remember what the question you asked, but I know three things.
Number 1, Jesus is king and man.
All glory to God.
All things were created by him and for him.
Number 2, I got the greatest wife and the greatest family in the world.
And number 3, these players, these coaches back to back, son.
Let's go.
You mentioned family.
It comes at you from a couple of different ways.
It's the new family that you picked up this year.
The family that's a part of it that has been a part of your fabric growing up.
What's it like to share your family with the new family.
That you have?
It's incredible.
Listen, I'm a big believer in two words, and I've been everywhere I've been with these guys talking this past year.
I think there's two things.
Boys come on to the field with them on Friday nights or on Wednesday afternoons.
All their hard work, and that's their preparation.
And they have their brothers and it really is.
It's hard work and love and that's our formula.
And I could not be more proud of these coaches and these players.
Pure preparation and brotherhood.
Hard work and love sends a title to Dacula Hebron Christian champs on the private side in 2025.
Let's send it back upstairs.
Larry and Sam, Georgia Cotton, Commission player of the game.
Coming up in a bit.
Nelly, thanks so much for that.
Well, I tell you this, if you had told me this morning that Hebron Christian would only manage 186 yards on offense, I'd tell you Calvary Day would be the winner.
Absolutely.
You think you got a chance.
Instead of Hebron?
Despite their offense looking nothing like we've seen all season long.
The heart of a champion.
They come through and get the victory today.
They find a way.
That's what you want.
When the team gets to the 15th game, right, you do whatever it takes.
There's no game next week.
There's no game in two weeks.
This is it, right?
So you leave it all out there.
That's what this Hebron Christian team did.
And they had some sputters.
They had some problems with penalties in the second half as well, and had some times when their offense kind of bogged down, but some big time players came through for them and they got the championship today.
And they are the champions.
To the Lions go the spoils.
Well as our all right we I know you love Chase Hardy like I do.
As she would say.
Never as good as the first time.
And for Kenny Dallas it's not his first time overall, but his first time in this Hebron Christian team as they celebrate their championship for the school, their second in a row, their first with Coach Dallas there.
And of course, again we congratulate them as we continue here on GPB.
Thrilling afternoon of football here, boy, right down to the wire if you love defense.
There was lots of that.
It was a little things that happened and Hebron Christian made more of those Jarvis Mathurin the big play there on offense later.
The big pick on defense to close it off.
And it's the Lyons victory in this Coliseum.
How about that?
Well, for everyone here, part of our GPB broadcast, we say thanks again for joining us.
Congrats to Hebron Christian, the private champions.
For the second year in a row, we continue with more football.
Our post-game show coming up.
The player of the game is coming up as well.

Football Fridays in Georgia is presented by the Governor's Office of Highway Safety, reminding you to park your phone while driving.
Saves lives.
Heads up Georgia.
You wouldn't take a call during the big game.
Oh, hey what's up man?
You wouldn't be texting while cheering on your team.
Jacket.
And you definitely wouldn't want to watch a video while marching with the band.
So why would you drive a car while distracted?
Driving isn't a game when you lose on the road, it could lead to a crash.
So when you get behind the wheel, put the distractions aside, drive hands free, and save lives.
Heads up Georgia.
You've seen what your electric cooperative can do for your home, your workplace, your weekend.
What lights us up is empowering your local community and economy.
Georgia's EMCs support 15,000 jobs and invest $16 billion in infrastructure annually.
And because we operate at cost, any extra revenue is reinvested into your co-op or return to members investment with impact.
That's the electric cooperative difference.
Georgia's EMCs so much more than electricity.

Welcome into our GPB tailgate party!
If we're having a tailgate party, that can only mean one thing.
We just gave out a state championship trophy and we're getting ready for our upcoming matchup.
I'm Nicki Noto, Palmer.
Welcome to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Let's go ahead and get you caught up.
And take a look at our Georgia EMC scoreboard.
A big congratulations goes out to Hebron Christian for winning the private school classification.
State championship final score 28-21 And with 1 minute and 41 seconds left to play in the game, Jarvis Mathurin will.
He grabbed a pick.
It sealed the deal for the Lions and Maddie Crews, you're with our player of the game and I guess that sealed the deal to make Jarvis our player of the game.
Jarvis Mathurin your Georgia Cotton Commission player of the game for Hebron Christian Jarvis.
Let's walk through that last play for you, that interception.
What's going through your head in that moment?
It was crazy.
I knew they were going to try to get try to beat me deep because I'm a smaller DB, obviously.
So I just played over the top and made a play on the ball.
You had a couple interceptions.
You also had a touchdown too.
Offensively for the side.
How important has it been from Kenny Dallas preaching both sides of the ball for you guys this season?
It's very important.
I would like to say it's called a lot of preparation and brotherhood because because without that we would be nothing.
Man.
All summer was working.
It's just a great feeling.
He comes in, it's back to back for Hebron Christian for you as a senior.
I mean, what does it mean to you getting to hold the trophy.
You're holding it right now as well.
Call it your baby before too.
Yes, ma'am.
It feels great.
You know, winning two times in a row.
Not a lot of people do that in high school.
So just the fact that we can do that and be able to do what God wants to do, it's perfect.
Preparation and brotherhood.
You said it best.
What do you have to say about this crowd for Hebron Christian coming in to support you guys today?
This crowd is amazing.
They gave us a fan bus to get all the fans here.
I love them man.
Perfect Jarvis thank you again so much.
Your Georgia Cotton Commission Player of the game.
Congratulations again to Jarvis and all of the Lions.
Thanks so much, Maddie,
