Guess what time it is.
We have officially hit our start time for the Creative Digital Arts Awards show.
But before we begin, welcome to Rupp Arena.
No award show starts without the official Street LP chant, so we're going to get an STLP.
All right.
Thank you.
So here we go.
We're going to get started.
Just some ground rules for this afternoon's award show for creative digital Arts.
Number one, when we celebrate our students let's get loud and let's let them hear about it.
Let's practice one time.
Here we go.
All right.
All right.
If you are in the audience and you are a parent and you have folks back home, this is a reminder that we are streaming live on KET right now.
Everybody wave to the cameras.
All right.
So here's the plan real quick.
Here's the plan, I love it.
We are going to go through all of our creative digital arts categories.
And if you are not sure if you are a finalist, you need to go to the wall of winners@stlp.live.
I know for sure that a lot of students in here have already checked that out.
We're going to go category by category, and when we get to your category, you should move up to the edge of your seat because we're going to be excited to call your name and get you up on the stage to receive your award.
So before we begin, I have the honor to introduce someone super special.
Special to you, special to me.
I get to bring up our Commissioner of Education, Doctor Robbie Fletcher.
Everyone give him a hand and get loud.
So introducing Doctor Fletcher.
I just want to say two things.
Number one, he is the hardest working leader that you've ever met.
And everything that he does is for you as students and teachers to make our educational experience so much better.
And for the next little bit, I get to Crown Doctor Fletcher as our Stlp chief enthusiast.
Let's give it up for Doctor Fletcher.
>> Are you happy to be here today?
I can't hear you.
Come on.
I'm pretty sure people in Carlisle County on the other end of the state heard that.
Maybe even the ones in Pike County too.
So congratulations for being here today.
Thank you so much.
I had such an amazing statistic shared with me before I came up on stage.
Do you realize just the creative digital arts section of this competition, over 3600 entries were placed over 500 judges.
So give yourself a round of applause for just being here today.
When you put that in perspective, folks, 3600 entries, 3600 groups tried to be here today.
But yet you're the one sitting in Rupp Arena.
So congratulations for that as Commissioner.
Oh, there you go.
Another round of applause right there.
Good.
You deserve every one of them.
Absolutely.
One of the things I'd like to say is since I've been commissioner and also even before I was commissioner, one of the things that we really try to push at the Kentucky Department of Education are three pillars, three things that we try to do to make sure drives all of our decision making.
The very first one is we want every single student to have a vibrant learning experiences.
And just to give you a little bit of a definition, think about the passion projects.
Think about, think about what you've done here.
Think about those things that say, you know what, I want to go to school today because this is joyful, this is exciting, this is meaningful to me.
Does stop sound like that?
Second, we want to make sure that our students are doing innovative things.
I'm telling you, as I walk through the hallways, I am so, so, so surprised and shocked by the innovation that our students are coming up with as part of what they're doing in our classrooms each and every day.
So our second pillar, innovation, and guess what models that stlp.
And then the last one, the last pillar that we always focus on is collaboration.
I want you to look around the room, and I want you to give a high five to someone that was on your team today.
We truly believe in order to have a successful commonwealth, we have to learn to work together.
Stlp helps us to be great collaborators as we're moving forward.
So again, we want to make sure that every single student has vibrant learning, innovation and collaboration as part of their experience not just for Sdlp, but through every single day, every single experience you have in the classroom.
We truly believe that math, science, social studies, all those subjects are extremely important.
But kids are so much more than just a test score.
Kids are so much more when they get the opportunity to work together and to give their learning to others, to show others, that is when we're going to be successful.
That is when we're going to have true, vibrant learning throughout the Commonwealth in every single classroom.
So again, one more time, congratulations to you.
Remember 3600 and before I am chief enthusiast for the moment, but I'll be offstage.
So I get to designate the next chief enthusiast who will be helping with us today.
John.
I'm totally surprising him.
So, John, come over here, please.
We are going to designate John as our chief enthusiast.
So he has to do cartwheels and everything else like that.
No, I'm just kidding, John, but you're going to be our chief enthusiast for the rest of this ceremony.
Can you handle that?
Yes.
Are you sure?
Yes, sir.
Let's hear it for John.
Friend.
There you go.
I'll turn you around.
And I've handed the mantle over.
You go back to your spot and let's get ready for our award ceremony.
Congratulations again.
>> Awesome.
All right, all right, two quick introductions before we get started.
Number one, we have a long time leader that has made all of this possible for the last three decades in the audience right now, that's going to help lead our evening award show.
I just like you to make a warm, loud, excited welcome, David Couch, stand up and wave real quick.
Yeah.
Thank you.
And then finally, with over 3000 student products that get submitted all at one time, that we need to bring volunteers together to help score and judge.
We have a lot of folks who help out with that, but there's one special person, Miss Erin Wolford, would you please step up and say hi real quick?
Yeah.
Erin makes sure that every project gets in and gets looked at by multiple adults.
And so awesome job by her and awesome job by our team.
Okay, here we go.
We are getting started.
And the most exciting introduction that I get to make is probably to the most famous person in this building right now.
And so I am super excited to get to introduce our master of ceremonies, Miss Kelsie Starks.
So you know, Kelsie, I don't need to say too much about Kelsie, but she is a broadcast journalist with more than 20 years of experience as a reporter, anchor, a producer in various markets across the country.
She's a native of Owensboro, Kentucky.
So if you're from Owensboro, yeah.
And Kelsie is the host of Ket's educational current event shows news, Quiz plus Education Matters as well as other programs.
She's definitely, like I said, the most famous person in this building.
She actually cannot go five steps without being asked for autographs.
So you get to see that as well now.
So let's give a loud and energetic and excited welcome to Miss Kelsie Starks.
>> Hello everyone and welcome to this year's Stlp.
I love the energy you all are having today.
Who's excited to get started with this award show?
