- Yes indeed, it's "Alabama Gospel Roots" on Saturday night, eight o'clock, every Saturday night at eight o'clock on Alabama Public Television.
So, call a neighbor, and call a friend.
Let 'em know that we're back again.
Not the first mile, but the 2nd Mile.
- 2nd Mile.
- 2nd Mile.
Welcome, guys.
It's so good to have you on "Alabama Gospel Roots."
- Thank you so much.
- Let me go right across here.
Where you from?
- We're from Philadelphia, Mississippi.
- Oh.
- About 30 miles north of Meridian, Mississippi.
A lot of people know where Meridian's at.
Nobody really knows where Philadelphia is.
- A lot of those people that like to see things rain up and bing a ling, ling, ling, ling, they know where it is.
(guys laughing) Come on now, come on now.
Well, probably they don't know where Meridian is, depending on what group we got.
We got that group all night tonight.
All right, well give me some names please.
- All right, so Reggie Lovorn sings the baritone part.
Mr. Bob Sullivan sings the high harmony.
My name's Richard Ferguson, and 2nd Mile's been around for about 40 years.
- Wow.
Who started the group?
- He and I started it back in 1986.
- Y'all were just little boys then.
- We were 12.
- Ah, come on now.
So, one day while you were shootin' marbles, you said, hey, let's just see if we can sing.
- Yeah, yeah, we're gonna sing some southern gospel.
- That's awesome.
Listen, who are some of the groups you looked up to in the southern gospel arena?
- You know, everybody loves Cathedral Quartet.
- George Younce, I know, I do.
I do listen to George.
- Yeah, anybody in Alabama they let us go and see.
The Down East Boys from up in Regal, North Carolina.
Some of the groups.
We've actually been on stage with probably.
- All of 'em.
- A lot of the major artists in southern gospel music through the years.
We can probably say we're probably one of the youngest groups that's ever sung with the Hinsons back in the day.
So, we've been around for a long time, and we just appreciate the opportunity to be here on "Alabama Gospel Roots."
- Well, I hope you'll come back again.
- If the invitation's open, we'll be here.
- Well, it's wide open.
It's wide open, especially when you go over there to Philadelphia and make a machine.
Come right on down to "Alabama Gospel Roots."
(laughing) Great, well, we appreciate that first song that you did as we're here at Hope Community Church with Pastor Steve, who is not with us.
I think he's a little bit under the weather, but we thank him for openin' these doors to allow us to come.
- It's a beautiful place.
- Yes, it is.
And hey, let's just enjoy ourselves while we're here.
- Thank you so much.
- Did you bring another song with you?
- We do have another one I think we can do for ya.
- Well, I'd love that.
