You look like, you know, you're pretty proficient on that guitar.
How old are you, if you don't mind my asking?
- Well, I'm 14.
- 14, and you're in high school?
- Almost, I'm in eighth grade.
I'll be in high school next year.
- How long you been playing?
- Three years now, I think.
- Wow, and what encouraged you to start playing guitar and singing, and wanting to do it on another level?
- Well, at first I started singing because I wanted to share, like 'cause I had a gift, and I wanted to share it, and share the glory of God.
So I decided to start singing gospel and all other things.
- Okay, so what was the first step, for people out there, parents and young people who are your age, young and a little older, what's the first step when you hear that voice, if you will, and what you do, what did you do?
- Well I tried to figure out like, what I wanted to play.
Like what genre, if I wanted to do an instrument, and tried to figure out how to grow that voice, so that's what I did.
- Okay, so did you tell your mom, your dad, your cousin, "I wanna do this," who did you tell?
- I told my mom, I was like, "Mom, I wanna perform."
And she was like, "Okay," and she figured it out for me.
- Okay, so you found a guitar teacher?
- Mm-hmm, I did.
- And what's your teacher's name?
We're gonna give your teacher a shout out there, your first teacher.
- My first teacher was Will Cash, he taught me a lot.
I recently started playing on my own, so I quit lessons and I was self-taught.
- Now it's practice, practice, practice, right?
- Now it's practice, practice.
- Okay, well we're so proud of you, and of what you're doing, and I'm sure you're inspiring a lotta young people right now who said, "You know, I kinda have that same calling," and that's how you do it, you tell somebody and then you find somebody to help you along the way, and then you work hard, right?
Do you write songs?
- I do write songs.
I've written a few, maybe like five within the past three years.
A few I'm working on right now.
So I'm working my way up.
- That is great.
Well, I appreciate you being on "Alabama Gospel Roots", inspiring others, not just young people, but inspiring some people my age, too.

- Well you got to, you gotta play.
- Gotta play, thank you very much.
Hey, I need some more practice though.
I'm gonna practice.
- Practice, practice, practice.
- Great, great, well before you sing another song, I want you to just look right out there and encourage some young people who have gifts that they might not know how to bring forth, okay?
- Well, everyone who has a gift like me, I wanna encourage you to use it in the right ways, like the glory of God, and for all of it, done.
I want you to work hard towards that, 'cause this is what God gave you, and they need to hear it up above too, like all the way up, and just to keep working.
- Okay, so I'm gonna introduce you like I know you're gonna be introduced one day, so I'm just gonna go ahead and step ahead and do it.
