I didn't have a car, and she had a really beat-up parlor guitar, and I started writing these, to me, they're kind of like silly songs.
It was like, this will be fun, just like write this little bluesy song, and I sent it to some friends, and some friends were just like, "You should just do this.
You should do a project of these songs."
And within a year or so, I'd recorded a bunch of single seven-inches, like 12 songs, and ended up releasing 45 seven-inches on four different labels, and the next thing I know, I had a band, and then I was making a full-length, and then another band asked us to go on tour, and then, you know, all of a sudden, I'm doing another band, which wasn't necessarily the plan, And the more I was doing it, the more convenient it was, because my other band, Young Widows, was not active at the time, and so then I sign record deal with a label, and I'm making another record, and the sound changes a little bit and the feel changes a little bit from the beginning, mostly because I wasn't really planning on doing those early songs as a full-time music project, and the more it became a real serious project that was being active, I wanted to express something much differently.

I really wanna make a record of just four long songs, just because I've never done that.
It's like, to me, every album isn't about, you know, carrying the torch of the same process and the same sound and the same energy.
To me, it's about experimenting, you know?
And that's kind of always been my thing since I started making music.
It's an artistic endeavor more than it is a business endeavor, or more it is to, like, please the fans, or, you know.
Of course, I wanna make people who like my music happy, but I hope that people that like my music, I hope it makes them happy to hear something different every time, because that's what is exciting to me with other artists, you know?
I mean, when there's an album that hits you and then a band releases another album that's completely different or different enough that can hit you again, that's the reward to me, is just the constant creativity and experimentation to find new things that are successfully creative.
