I am in "The Meeting" and I'm also in "King and The 1,300."

- Alright, tell us a little bit about "The Meeting."

- Well, "The Meeting" is a social drama that is bringing a 21st century couple out to meet with some very important African American historical figures.

One is Harriet Tubman, who is known as the General.

She freed many hundreds of slaves.

Booker T. Washington.

- Tuskegee.

- Tuskegee Institute.

University, I forgot they're a university now.

- Put that in there.

- Yes sir.

Tuskegee University.

And also Michelle Obama, and I play Michelle.

- Okay, I thought you were gonna put that in there.

- And Dr.

Martin Luther King Jr.

- Okay, and I understand it's a powerful play now.

- It is a powerful play.

- Powerful performance.

- It is a play that makes you think.

Actually, you have to have a perspective on what they're talking about.

It brings in a young couple who doesn't understand what's going on, and they sit down and they have this discussion with these figures and try to figure out how to bring society back to that place and that oneness.

- Alright, well we gonna cut it there 'cause if not, we won't go see it.

Okay, all right.

- That's right.

And as I told you when we first met, that doesn't happen overnight.

- Yeah, no, we believe in having a culture of hospitality and honor.

We're so, so glad to have you here.

Well, it's working.

- Good.

- Okay, well we got just a few moments here.

Although you can take all day if you really want to.

'Cause you know, you put us out, and then we won't have anywhere.

We'll be going on the street.

But you've been here how long, pastor sir?

- So we started March of 2022 as a brand new church plant.

And so did years of youth ministry.

Had a moment with the Lord where he called us back to home, which is Huntsville.

And so we developed a team over time and then launched officially March four years ago.

- I understand you went to Chattanooga, you went to Kentucky.

- That's right.

- And then you made it on back home.

- Yes sir.

- Great, great.

And your mom and dad were... You had a business, you said your dad had a garage.

Tell me about that a little bit.

- Yeah, so my dad owned a small mechanics deal, did European automotive repair for 41 years.

- Wow.

- And so I grew up in a family-owned business and just learned the value of hard work early on.

When you own a business, it owns you, and sometimes the connection over to what we're doing here is that when God has given you a gift, that gift takes hold of you.

You gotta use it well and steward it well.

- What was the first car you ever had?

- First car I ever had was a Volvo 240 in 1980.

0 to 60 sometimes.

- (laughs) Sometimes.

What happens the other time?

- Yeah, I don't know, zero to something.

- Okay.

- Yeah, I don't know.

- Well listen, give us a word of encouragement, look out there towards the camera, in reference to dealing with ministry at these times.

- Yeah, absolutely, here's what I'd say to you.

If I had a handful of seed and I threw that seed right here on this stage and I came back a month from now, three months from now, six months from now, that seed would never have sprouted, rooted or flourished.

If I take that same seed and I put it over in prepared ground, prepared ground, not just any ground, remember Jesus talked about this in Matthew 13, when I put that seed into prepared appropriate soil, I could come back a month from now, three months from now, six months from now, that seed will have rooted, sprouted and flourished.

So what's the difference?

The difference is not the seed, the difference is the environment.

So I would say to every person that God has put seed inside of you of potential.

But that seed's gotta be in the right environment for it to root, to sprout and to flourish.

God wants you to flourish spiritually.

Make sure that you are in the right environment with the right people, the right folks, the right team.

Get the word into your life, get worship into your life.

You know all about this.

Everybody on the other side that's watching, you know all about this.

If you find yourself in the wrong environment and you go, "My seed is not flourishing," it's time to lift your seed up and put it in the right environment.

And don't rush it.

Give God time to do what He designed the seed to do.

Have you been on the show before, Kevin?

- I have not, sir.

- Where you from?

- I'm from Farmington, Missouri.

If anybody knows where that's at.

North of here, about six and a half hours north, between St.

Louis and Cape Girardeau.

- Alright, well, we're finding out new places.

- That's right, that's right.

- And how long have you been singing?

- Probably since I was about 10 in church.

So I'm about 59 almost now, so several years.

So yeah.

- You're doing a good job.

Do you write your songs?

- I write some of them.

None of the ones I'm doing today are mine, but I've written some of 'em.

- Okay, well, you handle them like you wrote them.

- (laughs) I appreciate that.

Tell me a little bit, just a little bit more about yourself.

- So my name's Kevin Kappler.

I'm married to my wife Sharon who's with me today.

We're hitting our 40th anniversary coming up this year.

- 40.

- Yes sir.

We have grandchildren, several grandchildren, and I am a US missionary to law enforcement chaplaincy.

I work full time with police officers and I work with critical incidents and first responders in spiritual care and things.

I was in pastoral ministry for about 24 and a half years before going through the academy about five years ago when I was 52.

Don't do it is all I got to say at that age.

But anyway, God's been good.

He's amazing.

- Give me a hug, man.

(Kevin laughs) (hands smacking) All of that great work you're doing, that is wonderful.

And you still find time to stay married 40 years.

- Well, we gotta make time for that, right?

- Make time, okay, all right.

Well, we'll have to call the wife up next time to see how good you make your time.

- Exactly.

- All right.

- So what do you see next for you?

- What do I see next for me?

- Yes sir.

- Well, we're still working on new music always.

- Always.

- Obviously expanding the idea of chaplaincy in law enforcement and the reason why it is and why it's so important.

Because our first responders deal with so much.

So that's just always on the horizon, looking for those opportunities.

We'd love to get down in Alabama to get to do more of that.

- I got somebody I wanna hook you up with.

- I'd like to be hooked up.

- Well, we gonna get you hooked up.

- Good, in the right way, right?

- The right way.

That's the only way we could do it.

Otherwise we're wasting time.
