This is the 1956 Mercury XM Turnpike Cruiser.

It was basically totally shot.

The car was extremely rusty.

I bought it and totally restored it over a four year period.

If you look at it as a total project, it's overwhelming.

But if you--You're basically just doing small parts at a time.

So you work on one area and get it completed and then you move on to the next one.

So it's a series of small jobs and, you know, not one big job.

I put 13 4x8 sheets of 18 gauge sheet metal into the car during reconstructing.

And the hood and the trunk lid are both entirely brand new that I built off of vintage pictures that I had of the car.

One of the most unique features about the car is the butterfly roof sections that open and close automatically with the doors.

Gives you more headroom getting in and out of the car.

Cars on the road nowadays, every one of them looks the same.

No matter what brand it is or what year it is.

Where, cars back then, they were all unique.
