(light uptempo music) - Lux Choral Society presents A Lux Christmas, its 11th annual interfaith concert featuring choirs, orchestra, and guest musicians.
And here with more details are Ka'imi Ruberson and Leland Spindler.
Welcome, gentlemen.
Thank you for being here.
- Thank you.
- So, Ka'imi, I'm gonna start with you.
So let's talk about the program.
I know you have three choirs and more.
- Yes.
So we have our premier choir, Lux Singers, as well as our Lux men's and women's choruses.
We also have accompanists, Seth Bott on organ and Mark Johnson on piano, as well as local talent filling our orchestra that will be accompanying us throughout the concert.
- Okay.
And the music obviously is more sacred music?
- Yes, we are a more spiritual, sacred organization.
So our entire concert is focused on sacred music, celebrating obviously the birth of Jesus Christ.
But we do not participate... We do not have any secular music within this concert.
Only sacred.
- Okay, okay.
And, Leland, you're the artistic director.
So kind of talk about the whole mission of Lux.
- Thank you.
This is our 12th season, our 11th Christmas concert, and our mission is to help people feel connected to the divine, through sacred music, and the divine within us, all around us, above us, however people consider the sacred to be, the divine to be.
And it's been a real pleasure to make really high-quality music with such great people.
- All right.
And how do people come to your choir?
How do you recruit?
- We have auditions every summer.
When we started, we had one choir and about 20 people, and now there's about 100 of us within three choirs.
So it's been a real growth.
- So it's a big concert.
- Yeah.
- Like, that's big.
And you've got the orchestra.
So how many members in the orchestra are you using?
- There's about 30 in the orchestra, and we sell out our Christmas concert every year, we have since year one with 11 years ago.
And we've moved to First Presbyterian last year, which seats about 700.
So it's a lot of people that come.
- Wow.
Well, great.
Well, wonderful.
Thank you so much for being here.
And it sounds like a beautiful concert.
Thank you.
- Thank you so much.
- Thank you.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming concert, Lux Choral Society's A Lux Christmas, it's December 5th and 6th at eight o'clock at the First Presbyterian Church of Salt Lake City.
