We may see each other as strangers, but by me telling my story and having my outfit here on display, my mother's story, my mother's handiwork.
I can bridge that gap.
[thoughtful guitar playing] We're standing in front of a traditional Hmong outfit that my mother made for me.
When I was much younger than I am now.
It's probably about 20 plus years old.
The skirt itself is multicolored and this signifies the more traditional green Hmong.
There are actually two.
It's called white Hmong and green Hmong.
And so this is actually considered a green Hmong skirt.
It's multicolored.
It's very detailed.
In more traditional Hmong tapestry, you'll see a lot of reds and greens They're meant to signify life, but also just really bright colors, because you would normally wear this at a celebration like the Hmong New Year or for a wedding The Slice, from WDSE WRPT.
