Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipTallahassee reckoning started conceptually in January of 2023.
I saw a need that was missing in Tallahassee just because of the work that I've done in the national landscape for the last 30 years as a as a player, as a coach, as an executive.
We are developing them 100% on the field and off the field.
Doctor ash, fonts founder, Tallahassee Reckoning been in the women's game for 20 plus years, helping build the landscape in the US from youth to pro.
And now back here in Tallahassee, working on Tallahassee reckoning.
We kicked off our academy with supplemental training in August of 2023.
Have been working behind the scenes on, plans for a stadium facility, bringing a full pro team here.
But the first steps were making sure we were taking care of our our local players, that they were getting the development needs that that were missing for them at the top elite level.
And then we instituted a league, which is a pre-professional team.
In the summer of 2024.
Why did I get into coaching?
Because I had great coaches growing up wanting to give back, being for the community by the community, and providing a pathway for players that had been overlooked for so long.
It spoke to my heart.
It's it needs to be more apparent.
And women's sports, I mean, growing up, I did I think I only had one female coach.
And so getting to see Ashley set such a precedent for women's soccer and just knowing how many leaders are in women's soccer, playing with them my whole life, it makes a lot of sense that there are women out there who have played the sport, love the sport and just want to empower young women to follow their dreams.
And I think that's really inspiring to me.
I chose to play for the reckoning because I didn't have a lot of options.
So once I discovered them, once I started to get to know them, they were the ones that I stuck with, and they have helped me expand my abilities and talents far beyond what I could ever imagine.
I was in Washington, D.C. last summer, and I got to work with Coach Sasha, and when I was looking for a summer team to play on, I had a meeting with him, Coach Izzy and Ashley and just got to really hear their message and what they were doing here, and it was just something I wanted to be a part of, especially, after I spoke with Coach Ashley.
I mean, she seems to want to build things from the ground up, and I just wanted to be a part of it and be a part of soccer and Tallahassee here.
This team, the players, the coaches, they mean everything to me.
They are the first soccer family I've ever had.
They truly care about everything about you, the player and the person.
They want to develop you on and off the field in every way.
If you ever need help, if you ever just want to ask them a question, they will get to you immediately.
It doesn't matter how busy they are, they will always put in the time and effort to make sure you are taken care of.
I've loved being able to get to know the girls.
We're all living together.
We're all from different places from all over the world, and so it's really awesome to be a part of and how welcoming they've been to me, being from Ohio.
So it's an opportunity to not only meet new people and friends for life, but to be able to chase my dreams and try to play professionally someday and knowing Ashley, meaning Ashley.
Speaking to Ashley, her vision for serving an underserved community, wanting to give back, being for the community by the community, and providing a pathway for players that have been overlooked for so long.
For me, this means opportunity.
For me, this means you know how it started with a simple yet powerful belief of every girl deserves to dream.
So that's the youngest that we have.
That's in sixth grade.
That is, watching some of the top pro players play and dreaming that she can be there to the players that we have, they're looking to get scouted, to go pro, like why can't they have that opportunity?
Never give up on your dreams like you are always absolutely worth it and you never know how far you can actually go if you give up on it.
