A one of a kind crossroads where old brick buildings, indie galleries and quirky cafes all tumbled together.
Here, every corner feels like it's whispering a story from the 1890s while rocking a fresh mural that went up just last week.
Forget the guidebook.
To truly know Pioneer Square, you have t.. This isn't just Seattle's original neighborhood.
This is a living history museum.
And that's exactly what we're going to do.
Join us as we uncover the hidden layers of Pioneer Square through all five senses.
Let's go.
One thing people don't know.
Pioneer Square has a beach.
If you sit here long enough, you might hear waves splashing wildlife or even occasional resident orca.
And even a ferry sometimes.
Over there you hear the sound of a bustling city.
*train bell* *wings flapping* *coffee grinder* *crowd* *glasses clink* Pioneer Square is home to over 28 different art galleries.
History, culture, architecture and art all come together in galleries and spaces like this one.
One thing I've learned about art, the thing that goes best with it.
Something you could taste.
In 1852, this area was selected to be the site of what would later become downtown Seattle.
The Great Seattle Fire destroyed much of the city in 1889, and in the process of rebuilding the popular Seattle Underground was somewhat accidentally created.
In 1970, the entire Pioneer Square area became a designated historic district.
Today, it's a thriving neighborhood filled with colorful storefronts and cafes.
And my all time favorite, the smell of a bakery.
This is a bakery.
You smell that?
Of course you don't.
It’s video.
I ca.. This is home to the Pastry Project, a free educational program helping students build skills to start a delicious career and hopefully make even more bakeries.
If you could smell this.
Trust me, your nostrils would be very, very happy.
I'm going to take this little snack with me, and we'll wrap up this adventure at a spot that's different than what you'll find in the middle of most big cities.
This is Waterfall Garden Park, famous for its waterfall.
Not that one, though.
That one.
It’s 60ft by 80ft and was the original home of the very first UPS building.
The waterfall is 22ft tall and pumps out over 5000 gallons of water every minute.
It's a great place to feel the light spray of water, the touch of nature, and just sit and enjoy a perfectly prepared snack.
There you have it.
Pioneer square through all five senses.
But just to be sure, I'm going to try this taste thing out on.. I'm Angela.
Thank you for exploring.
I'll see y..
