I've got to get to the park.
The treasure hunt starts at 2 o'clock.
They won't wait for me.
Dad> Cheryl, if you'd stop talking for one second, I'll tell you why we stopped.
Cheryl> But we're going to be late.
Dad> No, we're not going to be late.
Not if we take the correct road.
♪ ♪ Cheryl, I haven't been to the park in a long time.
I'm not sure which road to take, but I think we'd get there quicker if I took the time to ask directions.
Honey, I'll be right back.
Mom> You'll have to pay close attention to the directions you're given if you're going to win the treasure hunt.
Cheryl> I know, Mom.
Dad and I have been practicing following directions.
I'm sure I'll do okay.
♪ ♪ (indiscernible conversation) ♪ Dad> Okay.
We take the next road to the left.
The park is two miles ahead and the entrance is on the right.
Mom> Cheryl, let's watch and see if Dad can follow the directions correctly.
Dad> Left.
Go two miles and right.
♪ ♪ ♪ Directions.
Directions.
♪ ♪ Which way do we go?
♪ ♪ Listen, well and watch ♪ the signs to know ♪ ♪ which way to go.
♪ ♪ Directions.
Directions.
♪ ♪ Left or right or where ♪ ♪ The road to the right ♪ Two miles ahead ♪ ♪ And we'll get there ♪ with time to spare.

Now, where do we go?
Walt> The letter said to meet at the banner at the park.
I don't think this is where the banner was.
Dad> Maybe that's part of the treasure hunt.
We will find it.
Come on.
It is probably near here.
♪ ♪ Dad> Walt, are you sure the letter didn't say where the banner was located?
Walt> The treasure hunt will begin at 2 o'clock at the banner in the park The banner is located behind the snack shop.
Dad> Walt, you are not going to win this contest, unless you read the directions carefully.
Mom> Bonnie, your letter said you were to meet at the banner behind the snack shop.
Bonnie> I'll find it.
After all, I am one of the four finalists in the treasure hunt.
♪ See.
There it is.
Mom> No, I don't think so.
This is at the golf course.
If they meant for us to meet here, they would have said, meet at the golf course.
I'm sure the snack shop is another building.
Bonnie> Well, maybe you're right.
Let's try this- Mom> Wait a minute, Bonnie.
There's a crowd of people over there.
I'll bet that's where we're supposed to be.
Bonnie> Who's in this contest?
Mom> You are, but you can be wrong, even if you are a finalist.
Bonnie, listen to me a minute.
If you plan to win this contest, you're going to have to read the directions very carefully and then follow them exactly.
Do what the directions say, not what you think they say.
>> Jason, the directions you'll receive will probably use the terms right and left.
Do you know which is which?
Jason> Sure.
This is my right and this is my left.
>> Good.
Do you know North, South, East and West?
Jason> Wait a minute.
North.
South, East and West?
>> Uh huh.
Jason> North.
South.
East and West.
>> Oh, oh Jason.
I'm sure you're going to need to know those directions.
Announcer> And now, everybody, I'd like to introduce you to the four finalists of Webster Groves Community Treasure Hunt.
This is Cheryl Johnson, Walter Chong, Jason Long and Bonnie Watson.
(applause) And the grand prize for this year's treasure hunt is this beautiful new bicycle.
Now, all you have to do to win this bicycle is to be the first one to follow your set of clues and find your treasure chest.
Now, each of you will pick one of these envelopes.
Cheryl, Walter, Jason and Bonnie.
Okay, now, inside each of those envelopes, you'll find your first clue and a map of the park at the starting gun, you will open your envelope.
Now, the first one back here with his or her treasure chest to the starting line will win this bicycle.
Are you ready?
On your marks.
Get set.
(Gun fires) Cheryl> The second clue is at the telephone booth.
The telephone booth?
Where's the telephone booth?
I bet it's on the map.
Jason> Your second clue is on the bulletin board at picnic shelter number one.
Walt> The second clue is on the base of the flagpole.
That's great.
I don't know where the flagpole is.
Dad and I were there earlier.
I don't need the map to find the flagpole.
Bonnie> I'm here, and the restroom is here.
So, I have to go this way.

50 paces east and 25 paces north.
Which way is east?
I bet the map shows directions.
The lake is in the north and the snack shop is in the east.
So if The snack shop is over there.
That's east one, two, three.
Walt> 41, 42 43, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50.
The third clue is on the tree limb beside you.
♪ There's no tree here.
♪ There's not one near here.
I bet I did something wrong.
♪ That's what's wrong.
North is toward the bathhouse.
And east is toward the train.
I was turned around.
I better start again.
♪ Jason> Go 50 paces east.
Go 25 paces north.
Your third clue is under the picnic table nearest you.
♪ North, South, East, West ♪ ♪ ♪ North, South, East, West ♪ ♪ If you're lost and can't ♪ find your direction ♪ ♪ maps may help you find ♪ it all by yourself.
♪ ♪ but you'll need to make ♪ one small correction ♪ ♪ otherwise the map ♪ won't be any help ♪ ♪ North, South, East, West ♪ ♪ Orient the map ♪ before you read it.
♪ ♪ Make sure the directions ♪ all line up true.
♪ ♪ North and South ♪ and East and West ♪ ♪ They must sit ♪ just the same way ♪ ♪ that the land ♪ looks to you.
♪ ♪ North, South, East, West ♪ ♪ You can line is with ♪ the distance object.
♪ ♪ Maybe something ♪ that is very tall.
♪ ♪ Now the map can show ♪ you the directions ♪ ♪ and you see that you ♪ weren't so lost at all.

The treasure chest is under the blue car.
Right.

Run 20 paces, right.
One, Two, Three, Four,... Jason> 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21,... ♪ To find the chest ♪ ♪ and win the bike.
♪ ♪ I need to know ♪ ♪ which way to go.
♪ ♪ I need to know ♪ ♪ which way is which.
♪ ♪ That treasure ♪ will make me rich.
♪ ♪ ♪ Directions are important.
