I WAS JUST PRACTICING MY GEN-Z STARE.
HAVE YOU HEARD OF THIS?
APPARENTLY, SOME MEMBERS OF GEN-Z -- THE "NOT ALL" DISCLAIMER APPLIES HERE -- WILL STARE BLANKLY IN RESPONSE TO, WELL, ANYTHING THEY THINK IS INANE OR DECIDE DOESN'T REQUIRE A RESPONSE.
IT'S JARRING TO WALK UP TO PLACE AN ORDER AT A COFFEE SHOP OR SOMETHING, SAY, "HI," AND GET ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BACK EXCEPT A VACANT LOOK.
GRANTED, I'M PROBABLY DOING TOO MUCH.
I CAN GET CHATTY AND PROBABLY SAY TOO MANY WORDS TO A PERFECT STRANGER WHO JUST WANTS TO PUNCH IN WHAT KIND OF COFFEE I WANT.
BUT, DANG, A LITTLE PLEASANTRY HELPS US BOTH PRETEND LIKE WE'RE NICE PEOPLE WHO ARE 100% NOT RIDDLED WITH STRESS SO WE CAN GET THROUGH THIS INTERACTION UNSCATHED.
AS JARRING AS IT IS, THE GEN-Z STARE IS ABSOLUTELY A POWER MOVE.
I'M OVER HERE FUMBLING AND OFF-BALANCE BECAUSE THIS INTERACTION IS NOT GOING HOW I EXPECTED, AND THEY'RE OVER THERE AS COOL AS A CUCUMBER.
MAKES ME WANT TO USE IT MYSELF.
SOMEONE TELLS A POOR-TASTE JOKE?
GEN-Z STARE.
SOMEONE DOUBLES DOWN ON THEIR IGNORANT STANCE DESPITE ALL EVIDENCE TO THE CONTRARY?
GEN-Z STARE.
MWA-HA-HAAA!
I WOULD BECOME THE GEN-Z STARE CHAMPION.
DRUNK WITH POWER, I WOULD RULE THE WORLD WITH VACANT LOOKS!
AAAAND PROBABLY BE ASSUMED TO BE MENTALLY ILL OR SUFFERING FROM EARLY ONSET DEMENTIA.
ON SECOND THOUGHT, GEN-Z CAN KEEP THEIR STARE.
