Homeless people and advocates for the homeless say they want to show they aren't done fighting against the bill, but hope a ruling by the highest court will make their fight easier.
One, two, three.
We stand together and love.
I watched this law come and I thought it was so crazy.
They surely wouldn't do it.
Well, they did it.
And now everybody that has to sleep on the street is at risk of getting a $250 ticket, which, of course, they won't have any address to send any information or get their court information.
They're going to miss their court dates and then they will have a warrant for their arrest and they will end up in jail because they don't have $250.
Can you imagine the expense of trying to jail all of these folks instead of housing them?
Housing them would be so much cheaper and they could maintain their freedom and their liberty.
People don't deserve this kind of treatment.
You wouldn't do this to a dog.
Well, for one thing, I actually reside here at Catholic Action Center.
Plus, I have friends and family members who are sleeping out on the street.
So we're rallying against this bill to make it illegal to be homeless.
Nobody chooses to be homeless.
And, you know, housing is getting so expensive that that's what's keeping a lot of people from getting housing is everybody wants like three times, you know, you have to earn three times the rent.
I'm saying it doesn't really make sense, but people are getting greedy when they should be, you know, helping people out.
I'm part of a straight voiced council.
We went to Frankfurt.
We go out and just, you know, let people know that this shouldn't be a problem.
I got family members, you know, multiple friends that live out on the street like they can't sleep at the park.
Like I sleep behind the dumpster at the house, you know, behind a building or Wal-Mart or something like that.
So we're we're rallying and hope people will listen and get the word out there.
We just need help.
You know what I'm saying?
Just help each other.
I want the constitutionality of it to be decided in the Supreme Court.
And I know that it is an unconstitutional thing.
It's it's first of all, it doesn't have any kind.
It's a cruel and unusual punishment for not doing anything except for falling asleep.
And also, it has it lacks the personal freedom and liberty.
And so I don't think that it will stand justice for all of us.
When a similar rally was held today in Kentucky's largest city, that's Louisville.
We'll have reaction from that group coming up tomorrow night on Kentucky Edition.
