We'll be right back in just a few minutes.
AJ: I started playing music at a really young age.
My mom brought me up on country and bluegrass music when I was just a little kid, actually about four years old she started me on a ukulele tuned to a mandolin, and I just took over the mandolin from there.
I've been playing music for 20 years, about.
♪♪♪ ♪♪♪ AJ: Every time I go onstage, still get a little bit scared.
But also just really excited at the same time.
Once you finally settle in onstage, you'll play, like, the first few songs and then everything settles in, and you just start to have fun and realize that you're getting to share your music with just so many people who also really appreciate music and it's really a bonding experience between you and strangers that you probably or might never see again.
AJ: Being on the road is--it's the best and sometimes the worst thing ever.
But, of course, the pros outweigh the cons.
You have to wake up super-early, you have to play super-late.
You've gotta load the van, you've gotta, you know, drive far distances and whatnot, but the camaraderie that we have between the members in the band is just so strong and we all find each other super-hilarious so we get to share all these memories together, and grow all together.
I think it's funny because when you think of a band, you can think of it as a platonic marriage between people because you share all these experiences.
You share the good times and the bad times and you get to create something together and trust each other and it's awesome getting to share that kind of experience with other people.
AJ: I enjoy most getting to do the thing that I love most with the people that I love most.
This venue is so cool.
It was funny when we were getting into town, Sully only had the directions to get to Ferndale and he didn't actually put in the actual address.
And there's just a few moments where we drove into town, like, "I bet we could just find this place."
We drove into town and we were, like, "There's a steeple.
Let's go there."
And lo and behold, we found it.
