(smooth upbeat music) - Hi, my name is Delbert Richardson and I am the founder and curator of the national award-winning, the "American History Traveling Museum: The Unspoken Truths."

The museum is a multi-sensory experience.

I used authentic artifacts and storyboards to tell a non-sanitized version of African people's contributions around the world as well as black folk in American history.

History is usually taught through a very Eurocentric lens, one that embraces the social construct that is race.

But that's just one version of the story.

I teach American history through an Afrocentric lens.

I tell the stories that aren't normally talked about.

The traveling museum creates healthy spaces for difficult conversations.

I try to help younger generations understand the challenges that their ancestors faced and how they persevered and endured to learn from that history and then use it to inspire and empower them to be a light in the world today.

That's what the traveling museum is all about.
