Illinois lawmakers have proposed a new bill that defines organized retail crime.

This week a consortium of community organizations issued a letter to the legislature opposing the proposal. In their letter, Illinois Latino Re-Integration Community Collaborative said the proposed measure quote “does not resolve the root causes of theft in the state of Illinois; it will further harm communities that have been oppressed by the criminal justice system for decades."
