Good evening.
How's everybody doing here?
No, no, no, no.
Try that again.
How's everybody doing?
Now, those who do not know me.
My name is Professor Brandon Robertson.
I am the Upright Bass instructor here at Bower School of Music.
I will oversee the jazz area.
I'm very excited as my first to see the concert.
So thank you guys for having me perform this evening.
It's very exciting.
Can we give a round of applause for Mr. Gerald Law on drums?
Also coming from Orlando, by he way, Joe, from Orlando, he's kidding, literally and then gentleman to my right here with the nice tophat.
Dear friend of mine's close buddy of mine who played all the time together.
He played.
He's a local resident here in the Southwest Florida area.
You can catch him on Wednesday night at the Bill with his trio.
He's very good, Mr. Gerald Augustin on the saxaphone.
And of course, this is especially for me right now because I have a gentleman on the stage who recently just graduated from this school here.
He's an alum class of 2020.
Can you please welcome back, Mr. Joel Long.
The first tune that you heard was a Joe Henderson title called Isotopes and his off the record Inner Urge.
Probably one of my all time favorite Joe records.
And this evening, my portion of the program will be dedicated to the great saxophonist because Gerald is such a beast, I had to pick this and pick up the music for him.
So we're going to go ahead and continue on.
And this next tune is often another classic record by a prominent, very prominent saxophonist, Sam Rivers.
And this is his original composition intitled Cyclic Episode.
Thank you.
Gerald on saxophone.
So don't mind me if you see spots on my shirt because I'm doing my job right now, I'm sweating.
So if I look ridiculous, don't bother.
Don't mind.
It's all go So we're going to slow things now, are there any John Coltrane guys?
We got one!
Where here for John.
That's right.
OK, So this is a beautiful ballad that he wrote for his wife.
You know, this is one of those special tunes that you just have to have the a great saxophonist on.
So I'm looking forward, really excited to hear Gerald do his thing on this show.
This is John Coltrane's Naima.
Mr. Gerald Augustin on Saxaphone.
Make a meal here, right here in.
You guys hanging in there so far?
All right, well, we're going to keep things moving and a nice trio for a few minutes.
A classic tune that abide by the same saxophones that we played with for earlier, Sam Rivers.
This is one of his original compositions that he also wrote for his wife as well.
And this has become a classic jazz standard among everyone now, and this is the title Beatrice.
And this is a an arrangement that I kind of took from Robert Glasper, who was probably one of my favorite modern pianists, and he plays it in an odd meter, so fairly busy measures to figure it out.
The Law Brothers Ge rald Law and Joel Law Mr. Gerald Law on drums Now that's some fast playing Joel Law on piano.
And I think we have come to the conclusion of our program I'd like first to thank Dr. Michael Baron for having me on the seat of concert series.
This is a wonderful, wonderful concert series that has been going on for years, has been very successful and I'm very privileged and honored that I had an opportunity to share my music and share our lovely, talented, talented team with this audience.
Thank you, Dr. Baron, for having me.
That's going to be great for me and an important moment for you guys.
So I figured I'd do this one for my chance, had this thing with them that they would like to see me play really hard stuff.
I started being, I don't know why, but.
Just this.
This next one's for you.
This is John Coltrane's giant steps.
Thank you, guys.
Gerald Augustin, saxophone Mr. Gerlad Law, drums Mr .Joel Law, piano Brandon Robertson, on bass Thank you guys Have a wonderful evening.
Safe travels and let's keep swinging.
