- Hi, my name is Hansel Porras# Garcia.
I'm the co-writer and director of "Ana y la Distancia,"# and I hope you enjoyed the film.
- [Voicemail] You have no new messages.
- Laura... - Cuqui.
- [Voicemail] You have no new messages.
- [Voicemail] You have no new messages.
- Cuqui.
- "Ana y la Distancia" literally translates# .. meaning not only what separates her from# her son, but also like distance between our countries and spaces.
It's not only# about the character and what she feels, but I feel the character speaks about the whole# country.
The highlight of the production was actually working with Coralia Veloz, who's# a very well known Cuban actress.
I love her so much.
What she did, she made me cry every time# with her performance.
She's able to resonate with a motherhood Cuban exile experience in general.# She was able to capture all that in her eyes.
- Hi, I am Maria Paula Arboleda, and# this is "Impasto."
Hope you enjoy it.
- Nice.
You have glitter on# your finger.
Very nice.
Oh, I love that!
I love that purple hair.
Cute!# That's spaghetti hair?
Great.
Very nice.
I love that.
That's nice.
Great.
Look# at all those colors!
Did you do that?
- Yeah.
- You did?
- Love it.
- Thank you.
- You are welcome, honey.
Wow.
- [Milena] They want a whole gallery of# four statues.
Unbelievable.
- What?
- And they want everything set by the 19th.
And# the shipment just came in tonight.
Now I'm gonna have to get up early tomorrow morning.# You've got a weird look on your face.
- No, I'm okay.
Um, the 19th?# What, um, what day's today?
- [Milena] Today's the 16th.
- Today's the 16th, Milena.
- We'll go to dinner on Friday when# I'm done with the installation.
- Happy anniversary, my love.
Can't believe we've been together that# long.
We're getting old.
Just the two of us.
What's this?
- [Milena] You can't tell me# you haven't considered it.
- I haven't.
There's someone else, isn't there?
- Let's talk about this tomorrow night.
Goodnight.
I wasn't fast enough.
Was# hoping to surprise you.
Everything okay?
- It's your, your hair.
- Yeah, it's been a while, hasn't# it?
Hey, listen, I was thinking that maybe we could go on a little adventure today,# celebrate our anniversary.
What do you think?
- I, um, I have to go to work.
- Just take the day off.
Come# on, I've already called out.
- Guess I'll just call the school then.
- Great.
I'm gonna get my things.
I'm so# excited.
It needs to be perfect you guys, okay?
I need make sure It's just# like the diagram.
This client is so particular.
I mean, it's got to be# checked, double-checked, triple-checked.
- Sure.
How are our classes going?
Any# future Hockney's or Ike Morris?
- [Amalia] You know, I don't know what# you're getting at, but this isn't funny.
- I'm not trying to be funny.
- No, don't bother.
You can't convince me that# you care now when you've pretended so long not to.
I didn't know you had been looking for it.
- I was never truly impressed with# Impressi.. painting with you.
Do you remember that# day?
You made me step closer and further, closer and further until I finally understood# that what makes something beautiful are its details.
But you know, it wasn't the painting# that made it clear for me that day.
It was you- - Tell me what you first saw in me that day.
- The lines around your eyes when# you smile.
Your crooked tooth.
Makes your smell even more beautiful.
Or your# nail polish, your favorite color of the month.
So, what's your favorite color this month?
- Sorry?
- [Milena] What's your# favorite color of the month?
- Uh, I don't know.
- How could you not know?
- I just don't.
- It's just a color.
- Why do you care?
- Why don't you?
- Because it's stupid and childish.
- I just don't wanna miss any details.
- You know what, I, um, actually,# I have to go.
I have to leave, I have to pick up some papers# and stuff at the school, so.
- [Milena] Well, why don't you just# take the car and pick me up on the way?
- No, because I just, I have to do a lot of work, and I'm probably not gonna finish# till late, but, uh, thank you.
- Are you okay Mrs.
Carer?
- Can you believe I'm an art teacher that# doesn't even know her own favorite color?
- I don't think I have one.
I like 'em all.
- I don't even know when I stopped asking# myself that question.
I isn't that crazy?
- [Janitor] Student ask you?
- My wife.
- What's hers?
- Blue.
Smells good.
You drink beer with her?
- I made your favorite food, and I- - Can't find my keys.
It's been a# very confusing day.
Are you okay?
- What's your favorite color?
- Moss.
- Copper.
- Impasto is an art term to talk about paint st.. a texture.
And this technique is used a lot in# Impressionism.
Impressionism plays a huge part on describing that relationship of our main character# with her wife.
What I love about Impressionism is that from afar, you get a completely different# image and experience then when you're close to the painting.
I became inspired by these questions# of like, "Wow, if I met my partner, like my, the younger version of my partner, will I still love# them?
Would I be in love?"
And then this question changing to, "Wait a second.
If I met the younger# version of myself, would I get along with it?
