It is located in this place in your body where you have your heart below it, you have your brain above it.
Only the sound of the voice, I think, can really go to those deep emotional places.
And when we hear that, there can be a greater compassion and understanding and community around the world.
♪ Mmmmmm ♪ ♪ Mm-mm-mm-mm-mm-mm ♪ ♪ Mmmmm ♪ You're going to use your voice to communicate with your sonic environment as a human being.
That's like -- That's your first instrument.
Everybody has it.
Everybody access this way to interact sonically.
So for me, oral transmission is very important, something that is being transmitted from a body to another.
You're actually, like, directly impacting with, like, sound wave, but also if language is part of this, like, it's basically how I think knowledge becomes very powerful in terms of transmission.
Each language has its own music.
Each language also has its own... thought system and the way that, like, language structures the way you think but also, like, maybe deeply, like, in a deeper way, it also structures ideology.
Or at least it gives you tool to understand ideology or deconstruct it.
It's different persona for me to sing in different languages.
It's an entry point in a whole other way of being and perceiving the world and describing it.
And I feel like each language is allowing me to open up a new perspective.
Before I was a wordless vocalist, maybe French felt -- It was a very, like, intellectual, cerebral language for me.
I was a scholar, and I was very, very comfortable with writing in French.
But as soon as I had to own this language in my body, it felt complicated.
So I started unfolding this by making a detour through Haitian Creole, which has French, but that also is mixed and has -- basically in its own identity allows otherness and allows transformation.
I started investigating and looking into Sanskrit and kind of like getting deeper into the origins of language and what it means to actually bring out words through vibration and through vocalization, through prosody.
I think it's really this vibratory stake in language that really matters to me.
I also want to be open to receive and give and have the channel open between me and the audience and my ancestors and the people who are not here.
I'm offering an individual experience, but I'm really hoping that this can be a mirror for anybody to also use for themselves and investigate their own subconscious, their own healing journey, their own investigation, what do you want to be in this lifetime?
