WOMAN: And now, If You Lived Here, a WETA original series.
JOHN: Hi, I'm John.
CHRISTINE: I'm Christine.
We're producers at WETA and best buds.
JOHN: Got that right.
We love living in the D.C. area, but finding a place to live here can be challenging and sometimes really exciting too, Tina.
CHRISTINE: So, join us as we tour three homes at three price points... JOHN: And try to guess the listing price of each home without going over.
CHRISTINE: And find out what it would be like...
BOTH: If You Lived Here.
JOHN: Hey, Hey, Deirdre.
CHRISTINE: Hey, Deirdre.
DEIRDRE: Welcome to Annandale, John and Christine.
So nice to have you here.
JOHN: Thanks for having us.
CHRISTINE: Well, we are thrilled to be here.
DEIRDRE: So, we're in front of The Block.
It's a food hall and it's pretty much the hub of where Annandale action is.
This area is where a lot of the restaurants and shops, and karaoke, and Korean Barbecue restaurants are.
And, The Block was just opened in 2016.
Everyone comes here, young and old, just to hang out, get great food.
JOHN: And people in between like me, middle-aged.
CHRISTINE: Yeah, he, he does, he does... JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Love the place.
JOHN: I love The Block.
CHRISTINE: So, tell us a little bit about where you're at right now.
DEIRDRE: Little River Turnpike and Columbia Pike.
Annandale in the last 20 years doubled their Asian population.
Most of the Korean Americans when they immigrated here in the '70s and '80s started opening restaurants and churches here, just to kind of have that community feel again.
CHRISTINE: So, what do you personally like about it?
DEIRDRE: So, I love the family feel of it.
And then also, you get a bunch of nature around here with parks and trails.
You can hop on 495 really easily, get to D.C., so you're really in a central location.
CHRISTINE: So then, what are the housing options in this area?
DEIRDRE: You can start out with condos, town homes, and single-family homes.
And even in the single-family home range, you can start out in the mid-ranges of five something, up to sky's the limit.
I'm gonna show you three homes in three different styles.
They all have their own character and you'll love all of them.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: Okay.
CHRISTINE: Well, I'm warning you, he's his own character too, so.
JOHN: Oh, go on.
DEIRDRE: Oh, Christine.
(laughter) (doorbell) DEIRDRE: Welcome to house number one.
We're in the Crestwood Manor neighborhood in Annandale... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: Inside the beltway.
As you can tell by the style of homes around here, there's a lot of split-levels and ramblers.
JOHN: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: You'll see a lot of tree-lined streets, a lot of great lawns.
It's an awesome starter home.
It's a split-level model, which is popular.
Why don't you start the tour, and then I'll let you go, and then we'll meet back, and see how it goes.
JOHN: Perfect.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
All right.
All right, starter home, split-level.
Where I grew up, we didn't have a lot of split-levels, so this is kinda fun looking at one for me.
And I see they've done some updating, new flooring.
JOHN: New flooring.
CHRISTINE: And, you know, this is an easy change to a fireplace when you whitewash the brick just to bring it up to date a little bit.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: More modern.
JOHN: So, they've done some updates.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Little changes.
Well, here's a room that doesn't need a lot of changes, the dining room.
CHRISTINE: Oh, this is a darling little dining space.
JOHN: It's perfect.
CHRISTINE: Look at that backyard.
JOHN: That's a big backyard.
CHRISTINE: You know, for the kids, for the dogs, it's great.
JOHN: And this great little patio.
Okay, Tina.
CHRISTINE: All right.
JOHN: We're going back in time.
(laughter).
JOHN: Okay, so this kitchen has probably been updated, you know, since the '60s.
CHRISTINE: Right.
When was the last time you saw an electric can opener?
JOHN: You don't see those often anymore.
CHRISTINE: You don't.
JOHN: Wow, this is taking me back, Tina.
CHRISTINE: You know what I like to say, buy what you like and make it what you love.
JOHN: Wow, that's beautiful.
Where'd you come up with that?
CHRISTINE: On this plan right here.
JOHN: Oh, look at that.
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: Now, here's something.
The realtor's even saying like, "Hey, here's what you're new kitchen..." CHRISTINE: "Here's what you can do, here's the potential."
JOHN: "Could look like."
CHRISTINE: It's a palette that you can start with.
JOHN: Right.
And, that's half the fun of getting a new place and making it your own.
Shall we see what's down the stairs?
CHRISTINE: I think so.
All right.
So, this is what I'm appreciating about the split-level.
You come down a level... JOHN: Mm-hmm.
CHRISTINE: But it does not feel like a basement at all.
JOHN: Kinda subterranean a little bit, but it allows for bigger windows, right?
CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: So that's why it feels so great.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
And I like the idea that there's not many steps either.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: You're just right up a few steps and there's the kitchen.
JOHN: I think somebody who didn't grow up with split-levels likes split-levels.
CHRISTINE: I can appreciate them.
(laughter).
JOHN: Okay.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: Let's appreciate this, a bedroom.
CHRISTINE: Oh, nice.
JOHN: This was smart, you know, 'cause this floor was probably one big rec room, right?
CHRISTINE: Yes, I would guess.
JOHN: And, is that a bathroom?
CHRISTINE: It's a full bath.
It has the original tile to the house.
So, this bathroom was original.
JOHN: What?
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm, yeah.
JOHN: This is nice.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
All right.
Okay.
JOHN: Okay.
CHRISTINE: So, full bath.
JOHN: And this is the only bath on this level.
But at least there's a bathroom downstairs, full bath.
CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: Right?
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: So, that's not bad.
You don't see this often.
That's storage to the crawlspace attic.
CHRISTINE: Oh, nice.
JOHN: Yeah.
Okay, let's check out... CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: First bedroom up here.
Nice little bedroom.
You don't need much, right?
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: And you have a nice closet.
CHRISTINE: Very nice closet, okay.
JOHN: Perfect for kids.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
All right, corner bedrooms.
JOHN: Nice size.
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: Really nice windows.
CHRISTINE: And a nice closet area.
JOHN: The storage with the sliding door I love.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Great.
CHRISTINE: Okay... JOHN: All right.
CHRISTINE: Another bedroom.
JOHN: Hey, now this has some size to it.
This is a mod house and I think, you know, younger buyers... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: See the coolness in this.
CHRISTINE: And they see the potential.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
Hey.
DEIRDRE: Hey, guys.
What did you think?
JOHN: I think that Tina and I are both going to be the founding members of the split-level appreciation club.
DEIRDRE: I love it too.
JOHN: That's right.
CHRISTINE: And what's nice is, you know, this home pretty much is move-in ready.
DEIRDRE: I think that you can move right in... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: And live, and then update right away.
JOHN: That's what I would wanna do.
CHRISTINE: But you do see the potential.
DEIRDRE: Mm-hmm.
CHRISTINE: And, I think there were pockets that we really liked.
You know, we liked that whole upstairs living space.
You could just see, you know, a really family unit up there.
DEIRDRE: Yeah.
JOHN: And, the bonus bedroom in the lower level.
CHRISTINE: Yes.
DEIRDRE: Oh yeah.
JOHN: It's not a basement.
DEIRDRE: Perfect for an in-law suite.
CHRISTINE: Yup.
DEIRDRE: I love it too.
JOHN: Absolutely.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: Okay, so let's talk about the house.
Four bedrooms, two full baths, 1,270 square feet, built in 1959 on 0.22 acres.
CHRISTINE: What a great backyard.
When you said 0.22, that's a nice sized lot.
JOHN: All right.
I, um, am going to make a guess of $570,000.
CHRISTINE: Oh, we are close.
We are so close because I am going to come in at $565,000.
DEIRDRE: The actual price is $559,900.
JOHN: Oh.
Oh.
DEIRDRE: You both lost, but you're both winners in my heart.
CHRISTINE: Oh, that's so nice.
JOHN: Aw, that's so sweet.
But we both lost, yeah, we can take it.
CHRISTINE: Yeah, we're, we, we can... DEIRDRE: All right, guys.
Let's get to the next house.
JOHN: All right.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
DEIRDRE: All right.
PENELOPE: Annandale really was a way stop on Little River Turnpike which was the way you would come from the agricultural areas to Alexandria, which was a port.
And so, markets developed around the agricultural areas.
In 1963, Fairfax County was the leading dairy producer in the commonwealth of Virginia.
You could drive out to the new Dulles Airport and on all sides of the road were cows.
Now it's tech firms!
(laughs) I saw Annandale start to change in the late '80s.
Best Group developed a little shopping center on Little River Turnpike.
Later, that shopping center was purchased by Korean American businesses.
And quite frankly, when the Korean American business community came in, they sort of salvaged some areas of Annandale that were really struggling.
SYLVIA: My mom's restaurant was definitely a first generation Korean restaurant.
It was a restaurant made for just the actual Korean community itself that had migrated there.
And I think it's the joys that I saw from preparing the food, eating the food, and like how it brought people together that brought me into the restaurant world.
Kogiya, the direct translation in Korean is, "Hey, it's me."
We are a Korean barbecue restaurant in the heart of Annandale.
We attract the suburban areas and then we also are not too far away from D.C. Korean barbecue is so interactive.
There's no cooking done really in the kitchen.
Everything is done in front of you.
So, it's engaging, it's just fun.
It brings people together.
When you want to get good Korean food, Annandale is the place to come.
Anything authentic, you need to get to Annandale.
The fact that the Korean community was here and it's still known as like, the original Koreatown of Virginia, I think still has that draw.
PENELOPE: We're a very welcoming community.
We always have been.
I've always felt my children got great education because they were raised in a diverse community.
SYLVIA: It's the close-knit community that I love and the authenticity, and the quality of, um, everything that's...
Available here.
DEIRDRE: Welcome to house number two.
CHRISTINE: I feel like I've just arrived at summer camp.
JOHN: Yeah, this feels like a resort.
DEIRDRE: It is kind of like a resort.
You're in the Truro neighborhood in Annandale.
It's an established community with a lot of mid-century modern homes and this is a typical one.
One level living, clean lines, and large picture windows that you can just bring the nature in.
Not a whole lot of homes go on sale in this neighborhood because people love living here.
CHRISTINE: Well, I can't wait to see inside.
JOHN: All right.
DEIRDRE: All right, let's go.
JOHN: Let's do it.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: Oh, I like it already.
CHRISTINE: Well, I think we know what the star of this home is.
JOHN: Those windows, that view.
CHRISTINE: Exactly.
JOHN: They just frame those woods... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: So perfectly.
CHRISTINE: I think you just feel this immediate like, ah... JOHN: Totally.
CHRISTINE: As soon as you walk in.
JOHN: Yeah, and, this great vaulted ceiling with the center beam.
CHRISTINE: And, you know, this ceiling is probably tongue and groove pine, but they painted it white for... JOHN: Lightens up the space.
CHRISTINE: Exactly.
New flooring.
JOHN: Yup.
CHRISTINE: These touches that they've done brings it right up to a contemporary feel today.
But, I gotta try this, okay?
This isn't your wood burning fireplace.
JOHN: This is not, but it's kinda cool.
CHRISTINE: But still, I've got to... (beeps) Ooh.
JOHN: Oh, look at that.
CHRISTINE: Nice.
Okay, so do you notice something?
JOHN: The deck didn't convey to this house.
CHRISTINE: I know, it's BYOD, bring your own deck.
But standing here, you know, this is really a spacious area for a dining room.
JOHN: Yeah, so far I like the proportions of these rooms.
They're just right... CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: Big enough.
CHRISTINE: Well, I feel they're kinda spacious.
Well, speaking of not being spacious this kitchen is small.
JOHN: But look, we both fit, you know.
CHRISTINE: Okay, all right... JOHN: Mm-hmm.
CHRISTINE: I'll give you that.
But, I'm just saying, look it, I mean, you can't do both at the same time.
JOHN: Well, you don't bake or do dishes, so, you know... CHRISTINE: Oh wait, so this is, this is a good kitchen for me.
JOHN: It's perfect for you.
And, you know, uh, you didn't even notice that you're resting against a gorgeous sink.
CHRISTINE: Oh!
You know I love these farm sinks.
JOHN: And a kitchen window.
CHRISTINE: Okay, so I guess this kitchen is for me.
JOHN: See, you're a convert.
So, yeah, nice, uh, kitchen counters, right?
CHRISTINE: I do like this white quartz with the white cabinets.
JOHN: And, this is coming from a cook here... CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: It has plenty of counter space and has everything that you need.
CHRISTINE: All right.
JOHN: Little, uh, breakfast area.
CHRISTINE: Nice.
JOHN: Let's head downstairs.
CHRISTINE: Oh.
JOHN: Ooh, this is nice and open.
CHRISTINE: Boy, this does not feel like a basement at all.
JOHN: It surely does not.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
So, over here, wood burning fireplace.
JOHN: Love it.
CHRISTINE: And, nice... JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Tile work.
JOHN: And I also like that they continued these floors down here too.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Nice continuity throughout the house.
And you have two more of these windows like the ones upstairs that look out... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Into the back where there's a little patio.
CHRISTINE: The view is fabulous.
JOHN: Yeah.
And then, this big area may be like... CHRISTINE: Oh, perfect for a pool table, gaming area.
JOHN: I dig it.
All right, over here we have just a little room under the stairs, perfect for a little office.
CHRISTINE: All right, I'm gonna check out this room.
You know John, it's long.
I would probably use it as an exercise room with all the equipment.
JOHN: Yeah, it'd be great for a treadmill in there.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Okay.
Hey.
CHRISTINE: Oh, nice.
JOHN: We have a full bath.
Brand spanking new.
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: And I like the tones, it goes with the rest of the house.
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: Nicely done.
And then, we have what could be a bedroom.
CHRISTINE: Nice.
JOHN: They fit a lot into this space down here.
Okay, well that was a dynamite lower space.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Hey, and look at this.
Look who I am.
I'm Greg Brady.
CHRISTINE: Oh my gosh, yes, you're Johnny Bravo.
JOHN: Come on, Jan, let's go.
CHRISTINE: Oh, why do I have to be Jan?
JOHN: Well, you, you could be like... CHRISTINE: Oh yes, "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha."
JOHN: All right, Tina.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: I think to the last portion of this house.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
All right, so I have a bedroom here.
Not huge, but the space works.
JOHN: Oh, that's kinda uncanny 'cause I have a little bedroom.
CHRISTINE: I think they're twins.
JOHN: They're mirror images there.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: And... CHRISTINE: All right, full bath on this floor, really great remodel.
And, the accent piece in the middle.
JOHN: You like glass tile.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
So, we're walking down like, a hallway that leads to... JOHN: The primary bedroom.
CHRISTINE: And a great view.
JOHN: Well, that's, you know, why you're buying this house... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Right, big portion of it.
CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: So... CHRISTINE: I'm guessing... JOHN: Yup, oh, nice.
CHRISTINE: Wow.
JOHN: Every primary suite has to have a nice bathroom.
This one's not big... CHRISTINE: But... JOHN: But it sure has nice finishes.
CHRISTINE: They have done a great job on all the bathrooms in this house.
JOHN: Yeah, this is very handsome.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: This house knocked my socks off from top to bottom.
CHRISTINE: I think you're ready to sign the dotted line.
JOHN: Well let's try to guess the price first.
CHRISTINE: Hey, enjoying the view?
DEIRDRE: Hey, guys.
I am enjoying the view.
So what'd you think?
CHRISTINE: Well, I think John is ready to buy this place right now.
JOHN: I love this house.
I could see myself in this particular house.
CHRISTINE: Just some of the touches, the flooring, you know, even painting the ceilings just really made this place feel contemporary and modern.
DEIRDRE: Exactly.
And I love that they kept the overall feel... JOHN: Oh, yes.
DEIRDRE: But then made it updated.
JOHN: Well... CHRISTINE: Exactly.
JOHN: I'm sure it was groovy in the '70s and it's groovy now, you know.
This is timeless.
DEIRDRE: It is, it is.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Walking up, it looks deceptively small because when you get in here, there's a lot of space.
DEIRDRE: The high ceilings really open... JOHN: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: Up the space and you have got all the big... CHRISTINE: Exactly.
DEIRDRE: Windows letting all the light in.
JOHN: This is why you buy this house.
DEIRDRE: This is it.
And this is one of the features of mid-century modern homes.
CHRISTINE: I do see one thing that's missing looking out this window, a deck.
JOHN: It's a must have for this house.
CHRISTINE: Oh, definitely.
JOHN: And, since there's an HOA, would you have to go through the HOA to get that approved, or?
DEIRDRE: Yes.
CHRISTINE: Speaking of HOA, what are some of the amenities?
DEIRDRE: They've got a clubhouse, a pool, tennis courts.
CHRISTINE: What is the fee?
DEIRDRE: $210 per year.
JOHN: Oh.
CHRISTINE: Per year?
DEIRDRE: But then you have to pay another $500 something for the amenities.
JOHN: Bargain.
DEIRDRE: Mm-hmm.
So, let's talk about the stats.
Four bedrooms, three full baths, 2828 square foot, built in 1972.
Acreage is 0.28.
Two car garage.
CHRISTINE: I'm gonna come in at a listing price of $900,000.
DEIRDRE: Okay.
JOHN: I'm going to give you a guess of $825,000.
CHRISTINE: Ooh.
DEIRDRE: Okay, very good.
The listing price is $849,900.
CHRISTINE: Oh.
JOHN: Oh.
DEIRDRE: Congratulations, John.
JOHN: Thank you for that.
I... DEIRDRE: You're the winner.
JOHN: I win the house, it's the best gift I've ever been given... CHRISTINE: I, I don't... JOHN: On this show.
CHRISTINE: I, I don't think you won the house.
JOHN: I invite you all to the party on my deck... CHRISTINE: No.
JOHN: Which will be next week.
CHRISTINE: You didn't win the house.
JOHN: Oh.
CHRISTINE: So anyway's, we have one more.
DEIRDRE: Yes, you're going to love it.
JOHN: Let's go do it.
DEIRDRE: All right, let's go.
(laughter).
CLAIRE: Annandale is really vibrant and growing.
There's a lot of cultural diversity.
It's well-known for Korean restaurants, but there's a lot more than that.
Artisans United is a non-profit organization that started in about 1989.
We bring arts to people and so we try to do demonstrations of crafts in the area.
We have nine member guilds that do a variety of crafts.
Right now in the craft gallery, we have a show with the Quilters Unlimited Guild.
MARY: Quilters Unlimited is an organization of people who like to quilt.
And the Annandale chapter is, we have about 40 members right now.
A quilt is something you can hold and it's comforting.
So, we do a lot of work for charity.
CLAIRE: The outreach and volunteer kinds of things, it seems like there's always something going on.
MARY: Annandale certainly does its share of volunteerism and we like to make quilts, and share them.
DAMON: We are considered a melting pot.
We're very open-minded when it comes to all customers, all backgrounds.
We picked the name Collector's World 'cause it's a broad name.
STEVE: It's an eclectic area.
There's people that live here of all different age brackets, uh, all different ethnicities, and really it creates an environment where we can appeal to a lot of different types of people.
DAMON: We definitely keep in mind the demographics of Annandale when we set up the store.
STEVE: The majority of the items that we sell here, uh, come from us buying from people that come in with their collections to sell.
DAMON: And a lot of people have lived here a long time, and when they finally downsize and move, they're sitting on a lot of really cool, dusty items.
KYLE: I really love sports.
But for like, other people that don't enjoy sports, they got comics, they got Star Wars stuff.
So, it's pretty much everything, really.
DAMON: The front half is all retail, then we have a game room designed for families to spend time with each other.
STEVE: We really wanted to have a place where, uh, families and customers could come in and congregate.
So on the weekends, on any given day, you'll see two, three, four families that have come in here sitting around the table, talking about cards.
DAMON: We're considered a destination business.
So people Google us, they'll travel from far away sometimes.
When you live in Annandale though, you have the convenience of coming in all the time and we see the local Annandale customers... Three to four times a week.
(doorbell) DEIRDRE: Welcome to house number three.
CHRISTINE: Wow.
JOHN: Wow, this is a doozy.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: So, you are in the Byrneley Views neighborhood.
When this neighborhood was built, it was supposed to be one house per acre.
So, you have a lot of land here.
But recently, a lot of people have come in and kind of torn it down, and built new homes just like this.
JOHN: Well, you can see the classic homes, you know, right next door.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: You can see what the neighborhood was and what it's becoming.
CHRISTINE: Right.
DEIRDRE: Right.
So, this is a new beautiful home... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
DEIRDRE: With modern finishes and I can't wait to show it to you.
Let's go.
JOHN: Okay.
Wow.
CHRISTINE: Talk about a statement piece as soon as you walk in the door.
What a modern contemporary vibe.
JOHN: Well, Tina, there's an old trend called WYSIWYG, and it stands for what you see is what you get.
And in this house, that's the case because you can see the whole floor from here.
CHRISTINE: We have to just take in this space.
JOHN: Okay, well first, uh, we're getting a reverse view... CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: Of the foyer.
And from here, you can see all of the amazing windows in the front too.
CHRISTINE: Well, you didn't notice those when you came in.
JOHN: No, too many things to look at.
Okay, the living room.
So modern, so on trend right now.
CHRISTINE: Talk about entertaining space.
JOHN: So, when you have 200 of your very best friends over... CHRISTINE: We don't have that many friends.
JOHN: No, no, we don't.
CHRISTINE: No.
No.
JOHN: But, you can all gather around this lovely electric fireplace.
Very chic and very fun.
And, I love that this builder put in an official wine bar in the living room, complete with a wine rack, a wine fridge, and the floating shelves with lighting... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: So that you can put your Baccarat crystal there... CHRISTINE: No!
JOHN: And it could be illuminated so pretty.
CHRISTINE: No, no, no, no, my Elvis glass collection would look perfect.
JOHN: That would look super.
CHRISTINE: That's it.
JOHN: That would really go with the house... CHRISTINE: That is it.
JOHN: I think.
CHRISTINE: So, when we do get those 200 friends or some friends... JOHN: You need a really good kitchen, right?
CHRISTINE: And I think we have that right here.
Can we just start with the pendant lights?
JOHN: They're groovy.
CHRISTINE: This design that it leaves is so pretty.
JOHN: Yeah, but that's a very cool detail.
CHRISTINE: Right.
You know, everything so far has been very purposely designed.
JOHN: Yes.
CHRISTINE: And, when I look at how the appliances blend right in with the cabinets and the hardware, it just looks like one cohesive wall.
JOHN: Very intentional.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
But I do like the contrast with the white cabinets.
JOHN: I do as well.
CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: And I love the marble back splash.
CHRISTINE: Well, I was gonna talk about this range hood.
It almost looks like it's an art piece in the kitchen.
JOHN: Wow.
We've seen today a house from the '60s.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: We just saw that gorgeous house from the '70s... CHRISTINE: '70s.
JOHN: Which I love.
And now we're seeing this house which is very au courant, if you will, which means like, it's very now, very, very happy.
CHRISTINE: Oh, I learn so much from you.
JOHN: No, no, in François, s'vous plait.
CHRISTINE: Oh my gosh.
JOHN: In François.
CHRISTINE: Keep moving.
JOHN: Okay, we have our first full bath.
CHRISTINE: You know, take a look at this shower.
Again, the fixtures, rain head shower head.
JOHN: And you know what I'm appreciating in this room?
The height of the ceilings.
CHRISTINE: Well, you really feel it in the shower.
JOHN: You see it in the shower too.
CHRISTINE: I mean, if you're tall, you have no issue... JOHN: No.
CHRISTINE: With this shower.
And a shout out to the floating vanity.
JOHN: Okay and what do we have here?
We have... Oh, look at this.
CHRISTINE: Oh, I thought it was a closet.
JOHN: This is a bedroom, really.
One level living, right?
CHRISTINE: Definitely.
JOHN: All right.
Let's go and check out... CHRISTINE: The upstairs.
JOHN: Okay, to this landing where we can take this all in.
CHRISTINE: Well, you really do see how big the space is when you're standing right here.
JOHN: And from up here, we can appreciate another lovely light which we missed... CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: When we came in the door 'cause there were too many things to look at.
CHRISTINE: Let's check this room out.
JOHN: Okay.
Big windows.
CHRISTINE: You know, it's long.
JOHN: Look at this window in the front... CHRISTINE: Oh nice.
JOHN: It has like, a little transom window, if you will.
Now there's a window that's different from a lot of windows we see.
CHRISTINE: It is.
JOHN: I hope we see more of those.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Okay, this little bedroom... CHRISTINE: Ah.
JOHN: Has a little bathroom... CHRISTINE: Nice.
JOHN: En suite.
CHRISTINE: Right, and it's that same design throughout.
JOHN: It goes with what we've seen... CHRISTINE: Exactly.
JOHN: Already.
CHRISTINE: All right.
JOHN: And we have a little closet.
Oh, look at this.
Nice built-ins in a nice closet.
CHRISTINE: That closet's three times the size of mine.
JOHN: Some lucky kid... CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Is gonna get that closet.
Okay.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: Into another bedroom.
CHRISTINE: All right.
Little bit bigger than the one we were just in.
JOHN: Yup.
CHRISTINE: Okay, let me check to see.
I'm guessing a full bath, yes.
Really nice tile work, rain shower head, floating vanity.
What more do you need?
JOHN: Oh, right.
CHRISTINE: Very nice.
JOHN: What's behind these doors?
I want more.
CHRISTINE: I'll check because I feel it could make another great entrance.
JOHN: Another one.
(gasps) CHRISTINE: It's a washer dryer.
JOHN: Perfect, on the second level.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: We love that.
Okay, this must be the... CHRISTINE: Uh... JOHN: The primary suite.
CHRISTINE: I would say it's the primary bedroom and there's your windows again.
JOHN: They're those special windows, I love them.
Hey, Tina, do you think this, uh, primary suite has a nice bathroom maybe?
CHRISTINE: Ooh, I don't know.
Uh, maybe.
JOHN: Well, let's go check it out.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
It does.
JOHN: And it's not a surprise, of course.
It has an awesome bathroom for this room.
CHRISTINE: Perfect.
JOHN: We have the water closet to my right.
And we haven't seen a tub like this, it's a very different shape.
CHRISTINE: It is different.
JOHN: I like it.
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
Double vanity.
JOHN: Yup.
Same materials in the other bathrooms... CHRISTINE: Right.
JOHN: All cohesive.
And, marble on the walls.
CHRISTINE: That's... JOHN: I love that.
CHRISTINE: Yeah.
JOHN: Okay.
I see something and I think I'm gonna cry.
Let's check this out.
CHRISTINE: You all right?
JOHN: Yeah, I was right.
It's... CHRISTINE: Oh, wow... JOHN: Just a walk-in closet.
CHRISTINE: Look at this space.
JOHN: It's like...
I think I could fill this up by myself.
CHRISTINE: Oh, you could?
JOHN: I, yeah, I'd give a... CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: Team try to do that actually.
CHRISTINE: Oh, that's the spirit.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
Well, we have one more floor, we've got the basement yet.
JOHN: Oh, we do have the basement.
CHRISTINE: Mm-hmm.
JOHN: Let's go down and check it out.
CHRISTINE: All right, talk about the rec room of rec rooms.
I see ping pong table, pool table, golf range, big screen TV.
JOHN: And probably room for not much more after that.
Thank God you didn't block the, uh, nice bar back here with... CHRISTINE: Ooh.
JOHN: All your stuff.
But, maybe a pinball machine.
CHRISTINE: Ooh, nice.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: Nice.
JOHN: Yeah.
CHRISTINE: And, let's take a look.
We have a full bath.
This is the simplest of the bathrooms that we've seen and it's still a nice bathroom, but it fits for a rec room.
JOHN: Yeah.
Let's check out this room.
Oh.
CHRISTINE: It would make a great play room.
JOHN: Or even just use it for storage.
CHRISTINE: Whatever your needs are.
JOHN: Oh, right.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
JOHN: Let's go find Deirdre.
CHRISTINE: Hey, Deirdre.
DEIRDRE: Hey, guys.
What did you think?
CHRISTINE: Well, you're standing at the focal point of the house.
JOHN: Yeah.
This foyer is grand.
DEIRDRE: It goes with the open concept... JOHN: Yes.
DEIRDRE: 'Cause you can see through everything.
CHRISTINE: So as far as open concept, I don't think it gets much better than this.
It is just a really large space.
It's great for families, parties, I mean, it really is a great entertaining home.
JOHN: This is really the new trend in homes.
DEIRDRE: The one thing that I really love about this home is there's a bedroom on the main level, perfect for multi-generational.
JOHN: Can we talk about that primary suite?
Okay, it had a nice bedroom.
CHRISTINE: Oh, but then when you walked around and you saw that bathroom.
I mean, it had all the bells and whistles.
DEIRDRE: My dream bathroom for sure.
JOHN: And then the cherry on the cake was the walk-in closet.
DEIRDRE: I know.
There's not much not to like about this home.
JOHN: To be honest, this house was so big, I lost track of how many bedrooms, how many bathrooms.
So, why don't you run through the stats for us one more time?
DEIRDRE: It's five bedrooms, five bathrooms, 3700 square foot, built in 2022, 0.5 acres, three car garage.
JOHN: This house has the wow factor from the second you step into it and I'm gonna give you a guess of $1,375,000.
CHRISTINE: Mm.
DEIRDRE: Very good.
CHRISTINE: My thought is actually $1.3.
DEIRDRE: The list price is $1,450,000.
CHRISTINE: Oh, nice.
JOHN: Yeah.
DEIRDRE: Nice, John.
CHRISTINE: Two homes in Annandale for you.
JOHN: Two homes in Annandale.
It's been my sweet spot, what can I say?
So, I really don't wanna leave Annandale now.
DEIRDRE: Well, we don't have to.
Let's go and get some Bingsu?
JOHN: Okay, I'm in.
CHRISTINE: Okay.
DEIRDRE: Okay.
Let's go.
CHRISTINE: All right.
SYLVIA: If you lived here, you know that if you're going to get food, you have to go to get Korean barbecue.
STEVE: You can't go ten feet without hitting a different Korean restaurant.
And it's a, a great place, and it brings people to Annandale to try out these different restaurants.
KYLE: And you would know that the main basketball court outside is Allison Park.
PENELOPE: You would know that there's a little, tiny island at, uh, Columbia Pike and, um, Backlick Road, and Daniels that's called Cannon Island.
