The American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky has announced it will petition the high court on behalf of seven transgender minors and their families who sued the state over Senate Bill 150.
A decision by the sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in July upheld the ban.
The ACLU of Kentucky, along with the National Center for Lesbian Rights, will ask the nation's highest court to overturn that decision.
The groups say their petition will be combined with a similar legal challenge in Tennessee to become the first case challenging transgender health care restrictions to go before the U.S. Supreme Court.
