Every student learns differently, and the typical public school works to offer accommodations to students who need them.
During the pandemic, the shift to remote learning devastated some families of children with special needs, but for a number of parents interviewed for Crosscut's podcast, "This Changes Everything", the shutdowns created a unique opportunity for families to better understand how their kids learn and to become better advocates for them.
You're about to hear from Dehlia Winbush, whose daughter, a fifth grader, was diagnosed with Oppositional Defiant Disorder and ADHD.
- I actually had to have a conversation with the teacher and say, "Look, this is how my child is, this is how she learns.
"Yes, she's a talker, "but if you give her something to do at all times, "you won't have any issues with her."
