Talent.
The weather has cleared out and it is a beautiful day here on the campus of the university of Central Arkansas.
And we bring you into Natalie Schoch Stadium when the four day state softball championship game between Farmington and Ridge Walk, which was outside the broadcast booth alongside Cal Summerlin.
I am Bobby Swafford.
Thanks for tuning in today.
And Kyle, this is a contest that a lot of people expected.
Two teams from the 41 conference, the meet here, maybe not necessarily Farmington in periods, though.
That's exactly right.
And most people did predict that pretty much from the beginning.
If it wasn't going to be either grab it again or period back in this game, it was going to be somebody from that conference.
So these two teams have been on a collision course all season long.
We'll talk about their previous matchups in just a little bit more.
Start with the visiting team Farmington.
They've got a championship pedigree in the girls program, mostly because of basketball.
Softball's has been there traditionally and they're a big reason why they're here to play Re.
Shirey That's exactly right.
Ray Shirey I think if you talk to anybody in the state, any coach in the state, whether it be basketball, softball that's played against her, she is one of the top competitors in the state.
It makes sense.
Her father, Jason Shirey, at Farmington, and then her mother, Gorski, director of ops for the Women's basketball team in Arkansas.
So she's got good pedigree, the 534 batting average on the season 17 RB odds, But she's going to have her hands full with the opponent in the circle for P Ridge, Amari Bolden.
She is a maybe the reason why he rages in the championship game for the third time in the last four seasons.
That's exactly right.
I think some people would say that she is the best pitcher in the state.
You just look at what the the numbers obviously just the consistency that she has put in and just how she's improved from her freshman year to now 24 in three on the season, a 0.9 APRA and that is not a typo 272 strikeouts on the season in only 156 innings of work.
It doesn't take a lot of caring of the one and doing the math.
That's more than a strikeout per inning.
She is a dominant force inside the circle.
Absolutely.
Like you said.
I mean, just look at the numbers right there.
This is the second year in a row that she comes into the state to the state finals under the tree under one last year, she came in .82 course that got jacked up a little bit after grab it one.
But to do that that consistently against this schedule not just in the conference but the out of conference schedule that they played for Remington's lineup hitting 378 on the season.
This is the second meeting between these two teams in really the last couple of weeks.
If you take a look at it, you take a look at how this team's got here.
We'll start with the Farmington batting order and the aforementioned reshot re going to start things off and you go your Fleming steels Hulsey Davidson car Mike Griggs in threes is going to be your flex player should she come in.
She's also the number two arm for Farmington at this point.
So that's how the lady Cardinal lineup is going to stack up.
But I mentioned these two teams are no strangers to one another.
They play each other only once in conference play, but then they go to Farmington, Lost both contest against the Lady Blackhawks in the regular season.
But check out how period is going to line up defensively as we're almost ready to go vigil Willie shorts out the outfield.
A pair of conquerors on the left side of the infield four periods.
Warden Boylan round out the infield.
And then the batter is Kelly Cooper and Emery Boland is going to get his started here in these for a state softball championship game.
Thanks for tuning in today to Arkansas PBS.
This should be a good one.
They first met on March the 26.
That was the 622 win by the Lady Blackhawks in a month later.
That was a 7 to 4 victory on April the 25th.
So Peoria, Rachels, the two series advantage this year, but that doesn't matter as we're underway here in the a state softball game that would flair down the left field line but file into the cheap seats as Reese Shirey bats on the left side of the box and you're going to see some blood arise balls and changeups.
Now we are we there's a left handed batter course.
Shirey The slapper could see some screwballs in there.
On the left is the bowlers deliver.
That one catches the bottom of the zone.
She quickly gets ahead two in the count.
And there's the screen.
She's going to pound the strike zone, as you might imagine, with a the right handed pitcher in seven or eight innings of work that when chopped a short nice step and throw there by hope Conklin gets the first out of the inning there she goes back to back screwballs.
I talked to coach Reynolds about that That's what she likes to do.
If that's what is what she sees.
But we'll see.
Once I think you're right here, she's going to go with a right handed batter.
So we'll see if she'll go change her rise.
The numbers for bowling, 156 innings.
She's going to be the straw that stirs the drink for Peerage 177 innings on the season for the team and she's got 156 of them in the circle.
So pretty much no question that she is going to be out there for the duration for the Lady Blackhawks.
Well, and there is probably no two players on this field that know each other better than bowling.
And you're they play travel ball together.
During the summer, they were thinking some were thinking that they were going to go to college together, but that did not that's not going to happen here since that one foul down the left field line you're hitting for 66 on the season.
Have a good on base percentage of 500.
Yeah she's got two home runs off bowling one in each of the regular season games so she's got some pop.
It does take quite a ride to get out of the stadium here.
Natalie Schoch Stadium here in Conway in the distance, not so much here, but the fence is about 15 to 20 feet tall all the way around.
So it takes a poke to get it out here.
As you take a look at the left field fence, you can see the couple different levels of it, but it takes a pretty good shot to get out.
We haven't had one of those yet.
That one smoked a left down the line that's going to get off the wall year round.
First she's in the second.
She's thinking three is the ball's miss playing out.
The left field slides in the third base with a triple.
As I said, nope, no two players know each other better.
And this is something that was a little bit underrated.
Bobby Even though Bridge won both of these games, Farmington did hit bowling really well.
I think it was seven hits She gave up in the first game and then 12 in the second.
So they get good contact here.
A smoke on that one.
And she knows it's down from the bat and she gets a good jump out of the batter's box.
And once the outfielder slips on the artificial surface here, she round second slides in the third and now runner in scoring position for Katie Fleming.
And there hasn't been a home run yet.
This is just the third game of six here in the softball championships.
That one catches the outside corner.
Good movement there.
So that's a really good angle.
You can see the late movement from Emery Bowling.
The one one sent out to second base can't be handle that's going to allow a run to score.
Given that RBI for Katie Fleming on the air, very unfamiliar territory here, of course with what would I guess one out here.
Every bowl is not used to having especially runners in scoring position this quick.
And now you've got him on the corners.
Hayley Ward You couldn't handle that one.
That was really sharply hit, though, off the bat of Katie Fleming.
You know, you I'm sorry, scoring a run 20 RBI is now on the season for Katie Fleming and now the first baseman, Mallory Sill, is going to step into the box 397 average for sills He comes up packet and Bobby this is not the point in the lineup the coach Shirey spoke really highly of during the state tournament.
His four or five and seven hitters with the silver bullet holes.
He and a maya car really had a great state tournament now and catches the inside corner bowling is tacking these hitters she's not messing around with trying to get them to chase.
She's pounding that strike zone early.
Just a smattering of high batting averages for this Farmington team.
As you might expect, the team was hitting 378 on the season.
That one fouled straight back into the screen to prepare.
A three and four seeds from the regional tournament found themselves playing for a state championship, swung in a mars first strike out for bowl and a big punch out there for the average right hander definitely needed that.
And that's another thing about bowling.
Bobby She doesn't flinch.
Even last year against Grant, we saw that even they got down.
She did not lose her composure and she's certainly not going to do it this early and big strikeout for her that went on the in her third just blew it right past.
Sills.
Bella Hulsey, the right fielder for Farmington, steps in and going upstairs on the last few pitches to 89 average 26 RBI is on this season a healthy cut there for the whole season.
Yeah, it's about right where you want last couple There's a few there that were a little bit too high, but that was right across the plate where she wanted it one on one count, runner on first one already across for Farmington here in the first swing and a miss.
she couldn't catch up with that one for bowling.
Sometimes you've got to settle the nerves.
Even though Pea Ridge played in this championship game a year ago, Sometimes you've got to settle in for one two.
That will help out zone.
Bob, you make a great point about that.
In what yesterday in the first game, Taylor's Ala Buford, they just won her third consecutive state tournament MVP.
Even she said that that first what she gave up was a little bit of nerves.
So you got to work those out swinging them.
It's back to back strikeouts now for Bolen gets out of the inning, but not before Farmington pushes one across Lady Cardinals, one here.
It's coming up as you're watching the Centennial Big state softball championship on Arkansas.

Welcome back into the fall race State Softball championship game.
Farmington scores one of the top of the first, but period is going to try to answer and this is how they're going to line up one through nine in the batting order.
Lexi Vigil going to leave things off the left fielder.
She's going to be followed by Zilli warden, Carlie Cooper.
That's 1 to 3 in the order followed by Baldwin, Whalen and Hope, Concord, Hailey, really have a go.
Rogers and Ashland short rounds out the lineup.
And Rebecca Concord is your flex player.
She plays over third.
So that's the starting batting order for Pea Ridge.
You know, they're going to take on Morgan Reeves.
Her pitcher for Farmington has really been a dual headed monster for Farmington in the circle.
But Reeves gets the nod here in the championship game, 78 innings pitched on the season.
43 strikeouts has walked only 26 yeari of 2.9.
So not a high strikeout volume pitcher.
She pitches the contact and presses her defense.
That's right.
What a big reason why you don't see the extremely high strikeouts.
So one thing that coach Reed said, you know she's been able to hit her locations and really just great wheat contact when you've got seven stud seniors behind you, you feel good about your defense.
So just being able to get that weak contact along with playing good defense has really helped her progression.
Swinging a miss there from digital to slap left handed hitter so evens up the count at one apiece.
Reeves Just a freshman.
So if you're a softball fan, get used to hearing her name.
Bunt attempts goes foul from digital.
So now she's behind in the count one and two.
Hey, I got a chance to see Morgan's first start against Springdale.
Harbaugh, who will be playing tonight.
Actually, Farmington former coach Randy Austin will be coaching them.
And and she was very calm, of course, made some freshman steps like you're going to do.
But I was very impressed.
But just with the outing she had, I believe she went five innings that day, the one to could not check your swing and vigil goes down swinging first at bat of the contest.
And I mentioned Morgan Reeves on a high strikeout pitcher starts the game with a punch out though what better way to really set the tone on the highest level as a young player today?
He just couldn't pull the trigger there.
That's a strike did go around so easily.
Ward now going to step in the second baseman for Pete Ridge.
That one fouled up and out of play easily.
356 batting average on the season 35 RBI has four home runs at second most on the team.
Good numbers for June?
A I'd say that one down out of the zone.
Of course, success is expected at Farmington all across campus.
But as a freshman stepping in and taking the ball in the state championship game, you got to know some nerves are certainly going to be there for Morgan Reeves.
That one swung on, left the left over in a foul territory that's going to get up and out of play.
Kennedy Griggs was over tracking that one into the mini wall, and Kennedy Griggs is actually the other pitcher that they utilize a senior.
So you got the senior leader and then the young freshman.
So he's hitting the count one and two on the ceiling.
Warden got too much of the plate there.
That one's lift to the left, but that's going to die out there in the abyss, as Kennedy Griggs camps under it makes the play back to back plays there for very well I guess a play right there.
He was right on the other one.
Let's take a look at how Farmington lines up.
Griggs Shireen Hulsey across the outfield, left or right on the infield.
Davidson You're Fleming and Steelz and Kenley meet behind the plate and catch it.
Morgan Reeves is our reporter.
Two quick outs here in the bottom of the first two alley.
Cooper now steps in.
The catcher for Pete Read.
She watches Strike one on the changeover and Carlie Cooper, the last remaining at least that had significant playing time the last remaining senior that has played on all three of the state finals teams in the past four years, 382 average for Cowley, 22 RBI is on the season watch.
Is that one up in in three and two averages good for 77 on base percentage is even better.
She finds a way to get on the base, pass more time tonight.
Yeah 29 singles, five doubles on the season.
Just find a way to get on now.
She's ahead in the count for the in the third meeting between these two teams they were actually scheduled to meet in the regional third place game as that one's lifted coming in is the center fielder Shirey she makes the play one, two, three goes Farmington in the bottom.
The first excuse me goes to range and Farmington has the lead.
So will step aside as the lady Blackhawks have some work to do.
I need you to say something.
So pleased to hear that.
Finally, some good news.
Some people spend a lifetime trying to find someone like you.

North Farmington has a one nothing lead, and coach Jason Shirey has really put a shot in the arm in this softball program.
Not that it really was down after what grandiosity is able to build, but what he has done in the last couple of years getting this program back to a championship level has been pretty impressive lately.
Jason Shirey is one of the best in the state, a two time state champion at Fayetteville is coach at Arkansas.
He has just been around for a long time and knows the game.
Emery Bolden's first delivery to Justine Davidson misses up and Away.
And you mentioned his success at Fayetteville, so he's not nervous about playing in the championship game.
He knows what this is all about and I want to get up and out of zone so early advantage in the at bat for Davidson 306 hitter 21 RBI is on the season for the right hander watches that one though taken all the way top of his own there for Bolen and Justin Davidson she's going to go to play at Utah State He's been a little streaky of a hitter at times, but I got to tell you about it.
She is a great third baseman, seeing a lot of plays made for her.
That one flared middle of the field.
Going to find some paint out there, hit it right off the purple U.S.A. Second base of the contest for Farmington is that back to back leadoff hits I believe get that leadoff triple and then get another lead off on now car.
The designated player performance didn't have a chance to start a rally here in the first car for 27 average little luxury to have that in the seven hole in your lineup Yeah that was the back half that Coach Shirey really spoke highly of just the way that they really took it to another level to get this team to this point during the state tournament.
A little contact there between the base runner and the first baseman.
And that's what this conversation between the two umpires is concerning.
So obstruction morning I heard that from the the that Mike they're good so no harm done here so I my car had a chance to move Davidson around that one right down the middle and watch as it go by right across the kneecaps go there 19 RBI five extra base hits the four car on the season and up and away car, another one that's going to go play college softball.
She is headed to Fort Scott, meaning college in Kansas.
We're off and running the four a title game.
Appreciate you tuning in.
It's Cal Southern when I'm Bobby Swofford will be here all day long.
Eight championships on campus today here at UK.
You watch four of them live right here on Arkansas PBS, two baseball games.
Later, another softball contest coming up and four soccer matches.
First one's already underway over at S2 Stadium as well.
Soccer on the stripes swing.
And Miss Boland gets another strikeout.
That's her third in two innings of work and much needed as the first out of this second inning and she's hitting that when she hits that rival right it's just an exact start right over play man Yeah that's when it's on.
It is on.
And that's again why she has had so much success, especially in the past two years.
And now, Kenley, Meeks going to be charged with the task of moving that runner over to 84 average for Kenley.
That would swing right to left to the left.
That one's got a chance up and deep into the bullpen, Kenley meet.
But one swing and Farmington pushes their lead to three.
That's the thing, Bobby is he just if there's any there's any team that can hit Emery This year it has been Farmington twice.
So again, we still got a long game.
But I'm telling you, that's the thing.
The difference here is just they know her so well.
And like you said, they just they've been hitting so well all season, not wasting any chance there.
That one just right down the middle, cut too much of the plate.
Meet made her pain his barrel on the base softball excuse me in right over the top of the triple-A crew's head.
Lance Taylor, get your head on a swivel.
You get a glove, you're going to sit out there, you telling me the two run shots?
And what a time for her first home run of the season.
Kinley Meek, his Farmington, the three nothing lead.
Kelly Briggs now going to try to flip the lineup over there.
She's going up there hack and fouled away.
We talked about Bobby just the back of the lineup.
It's just had a lot of success.
This again, go back to what I was saying about Coach Shah saying the middle of the order has really been the difference in the postseason.
That and on the inner third called Strike now and two now Boland really has to settle back in.
And honestly, I made this comment yesterday during one of the baseball games.
Sometimes you can throw too many strikes.
I mean, she's been around the plate here on the strike zone, maybe a little too much here is that once cue ball down to first, an easy play over there made by Mackenzie Whalen ends for the at bat there for Riggs.
She hasn't gone to Offspeed a whole lot.
I'm kind of wondering if we might see that same just kind of mix things up a little bit, like you said.
I mean, she said some good spots, but she probably needs to just hit something else in the side.
And I think a strikeout would certainly help.
Right now, back to the top of the order for Farmington in re Shirey grounded out to short her first time up misses Mrs. up and out of the zone hit so hard as a pitcher to tell yourself not to throw strikes and not get in the strike zone because you're taught to do that so many times.
But when you're facing a team that's kind of got to score it up or face you two or three times during a season, that's hard to do.
Shirey lifts one to left, and that one's play is easily made there by Lexie Vigil, and that ends the inning, but not before Farmington touches them off.
Kenley Make one swing of the bats and the Lady Cardinals have a three nothing lead period.
Try to get the offense going.

For the third time in four years.
Four.
They're still looking for that first elusive state championship, and they've got some work to do.
As Farmington has jumped out to a three nothing lead pitcher bowling going to try to help herself here.
That one's fouled away and now she's behind in the count bowling, doing really well at the plate too for 3011 doubles five home runs 28 RBI for 32 average on the season for bowling.
So if anybody's going to help her, she can do it herself.
Right now.
Still a lot of game left to be played at one flared on the infield easy play by Fleming at second Yeah that's for streak retired by Morgan Reaves to start this contest Dennis who's Bobby kind of what coach Shirey talked about with some of the weak contact and this force you know just being able to get under the ball had a couple of foul balls and but just being able to get under these and get some weak contact.
Mackenzie Whalen, the first baseman for Pete Reed, steps in first pitch swing and that one's foul over to the left side.
326 average for Whalen, 24 RBI is its third best on the team.
Just a freshman got a big future ahead young talent we're going to see this weekend she watches that one go high pair of freshmen duking it out here.
Well, and speaking of that, Farmington, seven of their starters, seniors.
Meanwhile, I think it's five seniors in juniors, that peerage as well.
So there is going to mix with them.
That one hard hit the third.
But Rebecca Conklin makes the plays strong, throw across the diamond second out of the inning.
Well, I think the craziest thing, talking about just the string to that 41 conference is if you look at the regular season standings, the district tournament and the regional tournament, it's just all different.
Not, I think the only one that Farmington hasn't finished first in.
The only spot that they haven't finished in is first.
So obviously trying to do that today.
Allen Right down the middle, the Hope Conklin, the trade shortstop to 75 average on the season but an on base percentage of nearly 400 that one catches the corner as well and Tonka was really big in that first game against these two in March 2016.
It's true four four with a double and a home run and so he's wasted little time two out already in inning up two in the count put it away here that one no tales outside you can see the late movement there and not a ton of strikeouts by the Spirit team this season.
798 plate appearances are at bat so 800 absolutely struck out 126 times.
Concord now battling back evens up the count of two and two when he's trying not to be too fine.
Swinging him in his second strikeout league contest for a reason threw six batters she is not allowed a baserunner and Farmington got a three nothing lead going to add to it.
You're watching the Centennial Mexico Softball Championship on Arkansas PBS Sports today can be a new beginning right things and darling brightness and joy that's genuinely classic song to be right here in this moment.

So Farmington, the four seed in the state tournament, making some noise here in the championship game.
Again, we've already mentioned that this is not a traditional fourth seed.
He really could have taken the four teams from the 41 jumble.
And this is no disrespect to the rest of the teams in the state, of course, but this is not a matchup that's entirely surprising.
Add to that you look at just that regional against against the 44.
It wasn't just that they swept they swept it pretty handily.
And that was just again, you said it's no disrespect to anybody else.
It's just really a credit to what the top half of that conference has done.
So with Star City knocked off was a grab it in the quarter finals to get to the semifinals and they made a run there in the semis as well.
So, again, this really, really good softball, as you would expect in the state tournament.
Tyndall Jones, the Star City, had back to back shutouts and splits the players bowling had fallen behind that count three that's back in it That's Morgan York zero for 66.
She tripled off the wall back in the first, and now she draws a five pitch walk.
I mentioned in the first inning that two are best friends here and bowling and they initially had planned on possibly going to college together.
The year is going to go to washed out bad discourse memory Bowl and they'll be playing on this field in a couple of years.
Going to be a UK burial for Katie Fleming.
She drove in a run on an error by the second baseman and started the scoring performance in way back in the first half.
But the third put the ball in play.
Three strikeouts so far for bowling and foul up out of play right there.
And so if you're Emory bowling here and you're already in a three nothing hole, you've got a runner on first the leadoff man on here in the third inning, you really got to dig deep.
You can't allow that hole to get much larger than this, even though you've got an explosive offense.
You know that one left to the left, that one's going to get down.
So now runners in first and second for Farmington.
They continue to put pressure on bowling in this team.
And to me, Bobby, this is probably it.
They're not not trying to take control of this place by any means, but if I'm here, I'm probably trying to find an off speed because you notice that this has gone pretty much the heart of the plate on a lot of these pitches.
Her changeup is kind of similar to a football and it just as well it's got such a heavy drop on it.
So I think mixing it up like that might be good here.
Springs a mound.
Is it for Pete Ridge that one was certainly starting to dive on the hands of Fleming, but she did a nice job of getting the hands inside, muscle muscling that one in to left field for the single.
And again now the teams of the order, the cleanup hitter Mallory Sill, is going to be due up for Farmington, the chance to add to this already early advantage.
That's probably why you saw all the owner take a visit to the circle just to kind of call memory down a little bit.
Yeah.
Got to continue to put pressure on when you've got the chance.
Facing an elite pitcher like Bolan still struck out in the.
Yeah.
He starts her off with a fastball in the inside corner.
She had that late rise there.
Yeah, a lot of time the catcher catches it looks like it's up out of the zone, but of course it's not where it's caught, it's where it crosses the plate and misses inside.
Left, back inside.
There you okay?
Well, she's here, Mallory.
Still is your goal.
Your job here is to move those runners up and him out of play.
Down the right field line three.
Now things are score a12 count here to Mallory Sills.
Is Farmington looking to put a little more pressure on conference rival reach it all star by sills layoff.
There was a long trip for both of these squads in a bus you're talking probably 3 hours for each Pete Ridge that's that's a hike yes sales couldn't lay off strike three but the ball sports out of the glove of the catcher.
So that's going to allow both runners to advance.
So even though she doesn't do it herself, Sills sees the runners do advance to second and third for Miller.
Hulsey And I feel like Farnworth is really just, you know, they do like to hit the long ball when they can, but I really feel like their they're was their game plan just kind of chipping away with a few runs here and there.
And it's certainly working.
So even though she gets to strike out the results, not great for periods there on the pass ball is also a chance to add to her 26 RBI total on the season.
I mean, lift it back into the stands and not a lot of foul territory behind the plate for a lot of pop ups are going to get out here at U.S.A. Stadium.
Previous Ferris field recently renamed after longtime coach Natalie Sharp.
Very well deserved first ever college softball coach, state of Arkansas, actually, Coach Emery Bowles mom, coincidentally that one right at the knees and starts a chain.
So bring him up What more what better way to instill some confidence right there.
You know she's been hitting like you talked about hit some good spots but just Farmington has gotten great contact on the ball.
But just to be able to do that, you know, she had the pitching big, the mound or the circle visit, I guess I should say, and possibly did some really good wonders there to get that strike.
That's a perfect pitch right across mid-thigh catches the corner so now to on to out for adjusting Davidson she single came around to score in the second big spot here for Farmington but an even bigger spot for bowling and P ridge yours a runner at third Flemings in second swing and miss big cut there from Davidson.
This is one of those big spots early in a contest.
You feel like the game could slip away.
Well, maybe momentum shifts back the other direction.
Great to go.
And again, splits the heart of the plate there.
Just couldn't get the bat off the shoulder for Davidson.
And she's in an effort to hold everything.
Look, swinging them is three pitches back to back to back strikeouts to end the threat pin bowling gets periods back in the dugout.
See if their bats can get going.

Let's go through Arkansas.
PBJ Sports comes from Wendy's, Wendy's, Cinnabon, pull bars and vanilla frosty cold cream.
Goldberg available today at participating U.S. Wendy's pyramids No stranger to blame his championship game here for the third time in the last four years and their coach Josh Reynolds a big reason for their success and obviously they've got a little work to do, but it's an outstanding program they've built there in northwest Arkansas.
They absolutely have been three times in the last four years.
But this is the one that he said they're tired of being the bridesmaid.
He's ready to take home that gold trophy.
As much as it's a blessing it is to get here, they're ready for the tables to turn in this game as a runner up in 2021, again in 2023, looking for that first state championship.
They roll to the state tournament, though, for nothing.
A win over Brooklyn, shut down Monticello three to nothing and then took down Star City 2 to 1 in the semifinals to get their ticket punched here, taken away seven, eight, nine in the batting order.
Let's go to Haley.
Willie steps in for the first time.
She swung at the first pitch center it out to short.
Can't be handled where that should be an error on your the first base runner of the contest for Pennridge.
Very rare right there Morgan makes that 99 out of the hundred times but as we saw in the first inning with periods sometimes just gets away from you and that's what happened there and that's the first defensive chance there for year and can't make the play.
So Ridge has a base runner and get the ball.
So Abigail Rodgers now going to step in.
Designated player for Pine Ridge 222 average 3.64 on base percentage shows Ball gets one down right back to the pitcher Breeze fields her position the job done there by Rogers okay so little small ball yeah that's right I figured they might go that one you know I'll tell you Bobby I got to really give it to more than her even.
I mean, just the way that she's been through that course.
When she got through that second inning, two out of six of the batters that she had faced, she struck out.
So not what we expected from her is that's like we've mentioned, she's not a high strikeout pitcher, but off to a great start.
Ready.
So Ashley Short brought her in scoring position out at second base first pitch swing and fouls that run away chop out of there from short She's in an ode to Hall she really reached on the air advances to second on the sacrifice mark Beveridge still looking for that first base head of the contest and down out of the zone Again, stay in the count here.
I know that sometimes it can mess with especially a young pitcher's head whenever you get a lead off on.
But he's here hitting the count of staying alive.
Is Ashland short the right fielder for Pete Ridge?
404 average?
We've seen a lot of this from the teams this week in putting a high average hitter at the bottom of your lineup, trying to flip things over for a four on the season chops that one down the first base line but foul hasn't played as many games as the rest of the starting lineup shortened here in just 23 contests.
59 plate appearances on the year.
Okay.
Speaking of that, you know top lineup with Shirey and you're they didn't even join the team until mid-March because they were with the basketball team on that back to back to state title run in short keep them this at bat Dolan flair is that one foul good battle here between short Henry's we start to hear the crowd get into a little bit more get into these middle innings of the contest that one that just outside for the plate so two and two now three's got a pair of strikeouts Big spot here.
The water, it's second one out here in the third place, trying to get that outside corner again.
But again, tails too far off and works the count all the way back to fall.
There's Ashland short Yeah just out by I mean it's it's really close you can see that late movement there and it shows you the the discipline at the plate from short the layoff that on back to back attempts get that time she chops out it goes foul try it again trying to paint that outside corner low in a way that's clearly where they're trying to work short.
But she's doing a really nice job of analyze.
Again, by far the longest at bat we've seen in this contest today who's going to win it here.
That one lifted to the left side, but perfectly placed as the Farmington defense.
Briggs makes the play and records the second out of the inning.
And take a look at today's umpiring crew.
Blair Cartwright behind the plate well as over in third, Rufus Elam's at first base.
Congratulations to those guys calling before a state championship game.
Done an outstanding job up to this point.
Of course, we're not talking about out.
That means they're doing a good job.
Blair talks enough for everybody, so they talk about that and how it misses low in a way to Lexi Vigil, back to the top of the lineup for Pete Ridge.
And tell me, whatever you get up there, go to vigil.
The last chance here to push one across.
Pete Riggs finally has a runner in scoring position.
That bunt attempt goes down.
Yeah.
Is the main get out of this that's just shows I mean she just looks so confidence.
One of the first things that I'll look for I was telling Coach Shirey this early this week, that's one of the first things I look for in a young pitcher is just obviously their body language.
If I'm on the other side of the fence, you know, their eyes.
But she is just so calm and did not even let that lead off.
That is basically swinging as they're from vigil now hidden accounts counts is Morgan Reaves and he mentioned the freshman right hander for Farmington got an early lead a lot of times that also also help settle the nerves for vigil who struck out in the first and I want you whole here that was foul off the left side try to check her swing.
She struck out on Czech swing in that first inning.
Yeah and another foul ball staying alive pitch count starting to work up a little bit for each 37 pitches now here just a third inning.
Yeah.
The really number that matters is the one in the run column period.
Still looking to push one across, looking like this and I could not check your swing work.
All right home plate umpire said she hit another strikeout for Morgan Reed.
She's got three of those through three innings and Farmington has a31 lead.

So going to be an Arkansas PBS sports likes to recognize players for both their on and off the field talent grab.
It's Keeley.

So congratulations, Akeelah LC the Arkansas PBS student all star.
the game first pitch swinging right back to the pitcher bowling she the field position and one pitch and car is retired and that's going to bring it Kenley make who did a lot of damage in our first at bats the contest you want to take a look at it and she also as far as pitch swinging and in itself.
That's exactly right just right there over the left elbow there's been that's been popular.
It seems like the left field side or even the center, like that's where those typically go in these games.
And just continuing that streak make looking for another big fly there and chases that one up and out of the zone.
Strike one to Kinley make again that was her first home run of the season and picked a pretty nice spot to do it in that one right on the inside corner underneath the hands of Meeks.
So she is quickly in the hole.
to after allowing a pair of baserunners in the last inning, it really looks like Emory Bowling has settled in to make that mound.
Keep saying now that circle visit still is still stuck on baseball.
That circle visit, really good one.
She's been pretty good since then and just seems a lot more calm since we were walking little quicker as well.
That one underneath the hand since a third golfer's got to step and throw makes the play so quickly.
Two are retired here in the fourth.
One thing I noticed, Bobby on the last and during the last inning was I think it maybe as weird as it sounds those couple of times this has been a little bit too high on a rise ball model actually helped her because I notice that they were pretty much, even if it was a little bit lower in that last inning, were still swinging at it.
So that might be something that she's working well two down here in the fourth for Farmington in as Kennedy Greig steps into the plate and take strike one Mullins retired the last five batters.
She's faced the longest streak in the contest for the right hander.
From here is fouled away by Grigg.
Now she's an ode to home gardeners of Farmington trying to double dip with championships in 2024 and one of the basketball title.
I want a softball trophy to that case.
A little bit higher.
Rising has hit that role well in the last couple innings of the most part, once he delivers a bowling swing fouled out by Griggs, he stays alive.
Grandma down to the first baseman.
Her first plate appearance back in the second inning.
So on the win win the battle here against bowling another go goes down the right to the line of your fair ball chance for two but she is going to put on brakes and a two out single from Kennedy graves I just wondered I think it was so close to the line Pete Ridge it seems like thought that it was foul, so they weren't really sure what to do.
And then just grigg's took off the first you see the home plate umpire, blue card, right single that one fair right off the bat.
You could see that as she was getting out of the box was grigg's.
So a little too out trouble for Pete Ridge.
Now the top of the order is back up as Ree Shirey steps in.
She's over for two one up and out of the zone.
She's been aggressive early in the count.
There's a not a bad pitch from Bowler trying to get her chase one up out of his own.
Yeah, exactly.
Yes.
No to it.
Yep.
I haven't seen that a lot this year to lefties, at least not as consistently with the right cross at the knees.
There he was up the count at one a piece about six strikeouts in the contest for bowling balance.
It out to short he finds a hole so Farmington back to back singles with two outs he's got does two out no outs doesn't really matter she's going to do something for her team that's just what she's done for any sport that she has played for Florida.
It seems like six hits now for Farmington and the familiarity between these two teams is certainly showing they're not intimidated by the dominant arm of Emery Bowling, that's for sure.
She's been hitting her spots again, maybe too much So and Farmington taking advantage of it.
You're steps in chance to add to that lead runners on first and second with two out here in the fourth and you at the regular season match ups two complete games and Emery gave up 18 hits in that one so he's his team double no hitter Allen swapped out the short and got a chance to drive in her own get Riggs rounds.
Third, she's going to score the runner is advancing and Farmington continues to pour it all They've got a four nothing lead You know I knew this was going to be very and it is competitive but I mean it's obviously just been all five of them.
They got the offense just completely roll.
And Morgan Reeves has been exceptional, does not look like a freshman whatsoever and didn't get anything in the last one.
But every other inning they put runs on the board, big time base hit there from here.
So now Farmington with a pair of runners in scoring position for Katie Fleming say to score their teacher that's my fault So five nothing sorry came all the way around from first the score on that heads up base running coach Yoder's back in the circle open that like the last one did.
Definitely.
I think.
Was it five of six that Bolen retired right after that.
So they're hoping to have the same result with this.
For the second time in the contest, they put together a two out rally.
Now Farmington with a five nothing lead is two runs come around to score there.
But as the relay throw tried to pick off, you're at second not allowed the second run to score.
My eyes were out of the second base bag and completely missed Shirey racing around from third.
So here's Katie Fleming trying to add more to it takes one high five nothing.
Farmington is a bat in the fourth that one to lift it Stay on the infield.
Bolen is going to handle that one herself.
And of course, the third out of the inning, but not before more damage has been done.
The lady Cardinal scored two more on an RBI single for Morgan here, and Pea Ridge found themselves a five nothing hole.

A lot of eyes are northwest Arkansas, certainly on this contest and has been all over Farmington up to this point.
They've got a five nothing lead to start a rally here in the fourth run, in the first two in the second, two, more in the fourth for the Lady Cardinals.
It's still searching for their first base into the contest.
They have had one base runner thanks to an error about six, seven, eight do up here Hope Copper got to say everything started to get better.
That's my mistake.
Haley Ward 4234.
Real I to decipher from my own handwriting morons.
Probably worse.
I write what they used to call hieroglyphics kids today.
You know what cursive is that one lifted to left in a few steps is Kennedy Griggs.
She's been active out there in the left field.
And she makes the play.
Yeah.
Kennedy Griggs obviously has it with Morgan Reeves getting a lot of the starts lately.
You haven't heard it?
We've talked about it a little bit, but yeah, definitely a very consistent left fielder, but also very quality pitchers has been a mainstay there for the Lady Cardinals.
I mean, we saw Leaf for the past three years, I'm not mistaken.
Third put out made by Kennedy Griggs in left.
So one down for Callie Cooper, the catcher.
She slide out to center her first time back in the first watch is that one split?
The heart of the plate is one one.
Now to the left hitting catcher.
And you know, he there they are.
They are not outstanding on offense.
But this is when they really got to get it in on that one line in the center of a retiree right there ranging to her.
Right.
Makes a nice one handed stab at it and quickly to her down the future of northeastern.
The state basketball player makes a play out there in center field.
You see in all these over now the pitcher bowl and try to keep the inning going It's off that one out of the zone tried to bowl and popped out to second her only plate appearance up to this point.
this one of the time there are no such things as five run homers in softball through Pete Ridge.
You've got to start to chip away at this as opposed to the five run homer baseball, which is also not well.
And this is up in a way against a three and it was a count to bowl and don't want to make a mistake here the cleanup hitter so Morgan Reeves picking her battles and that's all.
Well, that's what better than anything I want to know.
Part of that won all four of those up and out of the zone.
So Boland draws the four pitch walk the second base runner in as many innings for Pete Ridge, but also this, their second of the contest courtesy runner for Pete Ridge.
Going to be Kaylee Mathis short run for the pitcher.
So Mathis going to be your runner at first that's Mackenzie Whalen is do you think she grab out to third her first plate appearance for a period a day, go out the way that was slap right back to the second baseman, couldn't be handled by Fleming.
So now two are going to be on for Pete Riggs.
After that one goes five on the second baseman.
Now that's how you get something going.
You got runner in scoring position two on and that's that's really two back back to back innings where the Farmington infield has helped you out with with not being able to come back with those.
So this is where like I said a second ago, you've got to really back up and teammates and get some runs across.
That's a hard hit.
Ball right at you.
A play that Katie Fleming normally makes for that one gets through the wickets and now runners in first and second two out in the first real threat for farming for Pete Ridge excuse me against this Farmington squad Big swing and a miss there from Hope Concord struck out back in the second inning 75 average just six RBI on the season as she swings and misses again.
She's in a row to hold and are up.
Yeah.
Morgan, I was thinking I've seen the wrong name.
Morgan Reeves.
She's she put a couple across the plate there, but just in a really good spot.
Of course, that big swing a second ago.
I mean, she is just really, really hit the zone.
Leo To play safe out, wind up above the letters.
A big spot here for Cochlear and Pea Ridge.
You're going to start to climb back into it.
They need to take advantage of this opportunity with a runner in scoring position.
Couldn't do so in the third.
Also can do so here in the fourth big strike out there for Murray is her fourth punch out of the contest and Farmington able to strand a pair runners on the base pass worth three or four innings more than halfway home.
Farmington has got a five nothing lead.

And we're back here in the Florida State softball championship game and it's been a lot of Farmington triple the first inning for Morgan here she came around to score as Katie Fleming sent a sharp grounder his second that's what got the score and go into this contest.
But the biggest blow of the contest has been Kenley.
Meet right here.
First pitch of the bad badness sends the one soared into the left field bullpen Farmington three nothing lead at that point That's been more than enough for Morgan Reeves in the circle and they added to its later in the contest.
Emery Bolen is really starting to settle in the circle for Pete Ridge.
He's got seven strikeouts in the contest with the offense for Farmington.
Just been a little too strong as the Lady Cardinals are able to blow this game open with that two run single for Morgan.
You're five nothing as we play here in the fifth whistle steps in and answers that one go across the knees one of the ones to count struck out in both of her plate appearances up to this point is that one goes across the knees.
But inside those numbers kind of gotten away from that Roswell bench.
She was doing that kind of second through the third, second and third inning.
And now it can't go more low.
And inside there's another look to call their six three and ones to count the Mallory Sills.
So a little bit of frustration from the right handed pitcher.
She knows that she's running out of innings at one zero to the right side.
That's down to the first hit of the contest for Mallory Sills, Ashland then Short cuts it off in right field.
But a leadoff single for Farmington, that's the third lead off that they've had even 34th and is in five innings.
So let's just write.
That's a great recipe by right there.
Do you want to put some on all these the got five so you get the leadoff on it's a very good chance that you're going to get at least $1 Hulsey try to move the runner over gets the buttoned down perfectly placed that first baseman has to field it but we're not over to cover now Bishop do her job.
She gets on base herself.
That's miscommunication right there and just a very inopportune time to reason why the bills need to be back to back singles here that one the infield variety so Sills and Holsinger also for four strikeouts their first four plate appearances now they've got back to back hits again a bunts perfectly executed here able to make the play though nice job popping out of a as Kelly Cooper gets the runner at first but now Farmington again has two runners in scoring position pretty much about exactly what they wanted to do.
Now obviously you would have if you're Farmington, would have wanted for her to be saved.
It was right close, maybe about a second or so, but they'll take that.
So now, two in scoring position for me, a car she's over two struck out.
Driving back to the picture, Alex popped up on the infield right to the shortstop Hope tackler so she makes the plate and quickly to get a quick inning and there's been certainly some frustration as you know.
But like I said, she's got seven strikeouts on the day, so she hasn't been completely just off the rails or anything, but she's definitely had her moments.
This is a really good time to rebound right here.
Big match up here, though, is Kenley make strides in he wants to strike one big two run home run in the second inning.
And she grounded out to third base in the fourth that went in underneath the hand.
Really nice pitch there for Boler.
Now she's way ahead in the count.
This is a must have outs here for Pete reach changeup there and meek able to slow the bat down just enough the foul that one away cannot afford to see that advantage get any larger for Farmington if you're a Pete Reid fan changeup again had Meek out front over the concourse she makes the throw big six three put out there to end the inning Riggs avoids further damage as Farmington leaves a pair on the base pass.

Period.
Stepping into the box here in the fifth inning and it's going to be Haley Wylie, Abigail Rogers, Ashton Short do 79.
In the batting order.
They've got to start to chip away at this Farmington lead is they're running out of outs if you're one of those who like to count the outs at only nine remaining for the lady Blackhawks.
So they've got to start doing some work.
Riley reached on an error in the third go first pitch, swinging foul straight back and come out of play.
One of the most important or impressive things other I word about Reeves is the last two innings she got that lead off on got out of it then got an out and then got those two on second and third still got out of that so two huge inning she's coming off of that one snap to right field and it finally gets down first hit in the contest for Pete Riggs motoring into second base slides in safely is Haley Wiley She's going to have to be held there is that ball gets away with the first hit of the contest for the lady black flags and now they've got something going that is a way to start getting your lead off in scoring position.
I asked the question during the break is it will are you allowed to say something about the no hitter curse?
I spoke it into existence, maybe even asking the question.
I really it for what I would just like to point out.
I said that I don't mention them.
That was all Mr. Bobby Swafford.
I was going to mention it either way.
And what better than a half to because Haley Wiley ends that.
So Abigail Rogers now she had a sacrifice bunt in the third Yeah underneath the hands fouls it away.
I'm a firm believer of what's going to happen is going to happen based on what is on the playing field.
Not as he was talking about it.
I tend to agree, but he was telling me like, I swear every time I'm watching a game and somebody said, it's like immediately after his shirt, his very true bond right back to the pitcher.
Cause the one thing that wasn't a double play there is Rogers pops out to the pitcher.
Nice job of reaction there for Morgan He's wily they would have had a chance like you mentioned to turn to there wasn't anybody home in second but still just a really heads up play there by read the catch that probably would have hurt pretty bad if she did so Ashland short She flew off to the left, went out down here to short, went up and out of his own as well to no, try to find a way to put some pressure on Morgan Reeves, the freshman starting pitcher for Farmington.
She hasn't faced much adversity to this point.
Today, with a leadoff double by Wiley put a little added on Sophy Ridge.
That one shot to your third baseman that throw made nicely.
So Rebecca conquest correction Justin Davidson for the second out of the inning and then Katie Fleming comes over from second gets that out you and we talked about you know retirees family and established they are Andy Fleming the granddaughter of Hall of Fame football coach Tommy Tice Onslow and Harrison former head coach.
They're top of the order now.
Lexie Vigil for Pete Ridge.
She's for two pair of strikeouts.
She tries to get a buttoned down.
Nicely done the throw in time and gets her so back to back but a chance go awry for Pete Ridge and that's going to do it here the finish so a leadoff double is wasted if she stays stranded on the base pass for three or five innings of work here in the 40 state championship.

We reached the sixth inning here and the University of Central Arkansas in the four state softball championship and Farmington has a five nothing lead and trying to add to it here in the sixth Kennedy Griggs steps in for her third plate appearance since one four to single and score in the fourth inning.
Williams left it to the right side and we're going to play.
No, that one does good just to the seats.
BRIGGS Give a good chance to do it again.
Of course, you're Farmington.
You're trying to continue to put pressure on Emery Bolan being away with that time.
Swing and miss another punch out the board.
I should have mentioned this before the strikeout, but I also want to give Greg some credit to Bobby because he seems like just the ultimate team player.
It's not easy, especially when you've pitched plenty of innings.
It's not easy to give that up to a freshman, whether the regardless of the situation.
So she's played her role.
She's doing exactly what her team needs to do.
That's one of the reasons why why they're here is because a lot of them are like that.
Top of the lineup now for Farmington, Reese, Shirey fourth plate appearance.
She's one for three, singled and scored in the fourth.
So going to add another championship ring to her collection.
Got a few with the basketball squad to the team And I've talked to a lot of coaches and a lot of I mean, even without me mentioning her and they just raved just what the competitor she is, obviously her abilities slaps that one foul reach for that one out of the zone.
I would love to see the multisport athletes enjoy the high school experience as much as you can.
I played three at a very low level and said at the center field finds a way to get down that's going to get all the way to the wall.
Shirey makes the turn at second.
She's trying through three and she's only in there safely.
So Rosario is in well, triple.
There it is again.
That's one person.
And you can probably speak highly of and not just because of who she is.
We talked about one of the really good effort there by Hailey William Wilde excuse me, out in center field, but just could not make the play and vigil back on her up.
Gets the throw in, but not in time as Shirey shows off the wheels, the missionary failing right there.
It's third base trying to find a way to push another one to cross.
Morgan Earth steps in.
Change up there.
Nicely done.
Over the outside corner.
I don't mean a small classification.
I point out a lot of talent, but you still play to the and dish out right back up the box.
Can't be handled by the second baseman RBI single for Morgan here and Farmington continues to add to the lead.
Think about it like this, Bobby.
You don't come to U.S.A. PBS probably doesn't get your talents and think about what that has done.
I mean that.
I mean that seriously, you know, so I. I'll take them.
I'll take any compliment you want to write.
Sometimes life just puts us in the right situations.
And so RBI single for a year tipped off of bowling couldn't be handled by Warne.
It would have been a tough play for the second baseman any way to get the throw over the first time.
So now at six nothing.
Farmington in Katie Fleming.
A chance to add to that with a runner over first base one more than any time you want to make a multi year starters inside to when I was Barnes and has four three or four that have played or started in some capacity the Parsons go freshman year.
So just a ton of experience shopper left side handled by Concord throw across the diamond in time that's all kind of led the first baseman McKenzie into the baserunner but the way it looks to be okay so six three on the put out you're advanced to the second 122 down here.
In the end to Mallory you now the result is going to step in now one for three singled in the fifth Farmington now 11 base is first pitch swinging there for sale.
She's been aggressive there's been no question about it.
She's not going to get cheated in front of me.
Pretty much expect that from the cleanup hitter who paints on the inside corner.
Bowling's ahead.
to go to 30 Run scored.
That leads the team down right down to the heart of the play.
Sills couldn't get the bat off her shoulder.
So peer edge gets out of the inning, but not Farmington pushes another one across.
It's all the Lady Cardinals threw five and a half home, half in the sixth.
Coming up, you're watching the Centennial Big play softball championship one Arkansas PBS Sports.
We go full gallop all New York.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you for thinking big.
Thank you very much.
We are just beyond grateful for the support of your dad.
I always will be so grateful for everything you did for me.
This is what I want.
Things come.
I'm Jeff Robinson, and I preach the gospel of Arkansas to, you know, really go in the store.
For more than a decade, I've been traveling the state.
Good morning.
Searching out our culinary gurus and every great little restaurant and food story I can find.
Help you make room for that.
Thank you.
Download the PBS video app or watch online at one for a copy of any of the state championship games.
Go to Eminem Productions dot net to place your order.
We're just getting warmed up here on Arkansas PBS today.
Three more championships for me to follow you on the four and seven if you need to send.
A reminder on your phone, tune back in.
But honestly, Tuscaloosa remote.
You don't need to it change the channel the rest of the weekend.
That's still some work to do here in the Florida state.
Softball pharmacy has got a six nothing lead.
It's you got six more outs to work with to try to get back into it and easily.
Warden in the lead off the home half of the year award and slot out two left in the first flat out two left in the fourth.
Oops that one straight back up over the press box.
Reset the game if only if it's on lots of hands.
And that's it all Merry Christmas.
Right.
But if they did, Dee Ridge have a runner on first base or at least on base, you feel pretty good because Gordon leads the team with 35 RBI.
That one lifted to the gap out in left center.
But Shirey ranges over and makes the play always important.
First out of the inning recorded it three fly out for warden so she's put the ball in play but it's a lady cardinal defense the scouting reports working to perfection and that one scouted perfectly right there.
Morgan Reeves has been impressive in the circle for Farmington.
Four strikeouts allowed, one walk, one hit, and that was a double to start The fifth.
The defense has been fairly clean behind her.
Do we have a couple of layers on the Lady Cardinals?
She's been able to do the work at the circle and prevent those from scoring great change up there from Reese.
That's her specialty.
She loves to throw that one and she throws it great.
It's Cooper pair of fly outs herself here to the three hole hitter.
And this is low in a way that a lot of northwest Arkansas teams in action here today.
Almost six AA baseball championships going to follow Harvard and Rogers.
That one line back up the middle second base in the contest for the lady Blackhawks.
You got to the premiere for a coach's and two of the better ones in the state.
We're going to get that again later on with Randy.
Austin's the winningest coach in Arkansas softball history.
And Ken Earley, who's one who did win five state titles at Bentonville from 2016 to 2023, Bentonville here for the 10th time since 2010.
If you're if you're looking for the model of consistency in softball, Billy's certainly been that of late.
He put periods in that category as well.
You don't reach the finals three times in four years without being that and I tried.
That also shows you the talent level in northwest Arkansas.
I've got the first three games so they all teams from I guess I call it northwest Arkansas, north of the tunnel, of course, and over in the western part of the state.
Sure, you can throw the river valley and there's one.
It's not the true northwest.
That one lifted the left field.
Griggs comes in, makes her fourth put out of the contest.
Now two down here in the sixth inning.
Well, I'm talking about hard the two.
Randy also said his first year there takes them to their first finals.
He's been to nine total in his career just and he knew that he had a really good team but he's got like Fred Garbutt, Morgan Reese, Sierra Dots is a great freshman pitcher too, and she's got a battery.
Maiden and Zamar Sanchez will be fantastic over the next two years.
But to watch that one first pitch scheduled for 405 right here on Arkansas PBS, but still some work to do here.
I just can't forget about Lincoln playing for a38 championship tomorrow evening and then I can go pack it in Lincoln.
Lincoln, They're here for the first time watching for their first championship.
A softball.
Northwest Arkansas.
Good.
Yeah, well, just thinking about this, that's a division one.
Pitchers going against each other.
It's right.
Yeah.
Breaking Morton the Mississippi state commit from Lincoln and of course Kenzie Freeman from Hackett going to Tulsa Allen messes up and out of zone McKenzie Whalen she reached on an error in the fourth inning Groundout to third her first plate appearance in the second.
So looking for her first base into the contest and that shot to the right side but foul six runs, 11 hits for Farmington.
No ones two hits for Pete Ridge.
If we play here in the sixth got to get something going and sell it off to the right side.
Cooper's over first after her single.
It's up this one Kennedy Carey and a courtesy runner.
And for the catcher.
Cooper That was slap to the right side.
But the size is foul.
Watch the idea there that that pitch on the outside corner tries not to do too much.
Whalen This goes the other way with it, but couldn't keep it fair.
Whalen was trying to do it.
Farmington did it in the because it was the last inning when they hit.
There were maybe two before where that one went right?
I mean, hit hard, that right field line used toes the rubber to her one to delivery that one lofted into center field Shirey range in back makes the play the three fly outs are in the inning and they're all caught by the outfielders And so now the head to the seven Farmington trying to add to their nothing lead.
I need you to say something.
So pleased to hear that.
Finally, some good news.
Some people spend a lifetime trying to find someone like here.
This is a future they're more than happy to embrace.
I've never felt a love so strong in my entire life.
I promise if this is something that they're not going to be able to ignore, we love stay.
This month on Arkansas PBS, just as a radio station is getting popular.
You knew Peggy stood at the station twice Weekly.
The deejay is electrocuted on the air.
I'm a woman alone, newly arrived in a dangerous town during a chess match, one of the competitors dies.
I found significant traces of poison on the white queen.
But the team can't figure out how the killer did it.
Only on Arkansas.
I mean, they're going to start.
Get your live action photos from the game at my my pbs.org slash photos, grab free downloads, have prints made.
These are great championship keepsakes.
Cory does an outstanding job of documenting all the championships here on Arkansas PBS and this season keeps getting longer and longer.
I'm here for football, volleyball, boys and girls, basketball, baseball, softball championships live right here on Arkansas PBS Sports.
Big shout out to everybody working this weekend.
It's warm today, sunshine, much better weather than we expected.
No doubt.
We got the jinx that we're coming out to the ballpark any point today.
Put some sunscreen on, make throwing a hat, but get out here.
More important, support these student athletes performance in back here in the seventh below Hulsey chops on the third.
That one is fair Canchola makes a throw nice by Rebecca Tong first two for the first out of the inning as Hulsey tries to head for a slot in the first spot for not Away.
That's so interesting.
Davidson, third baseman for Farmington.
She's one for two on the day, singled and scored in the second and also had a sacrifice bunt a fifth.
Yeah that doesn't go against the batting average bowling now over 100 pitches in the contest chopper there too short hope Concord strong throw there really nice shows off the cannon there six three on the put out No no this is an all you lose my floor game so a car steps in now she's also three on the contest swings and misses the bowling now well over triple digits those wondering there is no pitch count rule in high school softball.
It's a natural motion.
At least that's what they tell it.
To sit there and throw until your arm falls off.
Essentially.
That's a myth.
Now, I've got to say, they're and I'm sure there are some pitching coaches listening.
And look, you can obviously go longer, but yes, there is such thing as way too much.
for sure.
I say that was sarcasm.
I here that one flare to the right side play me by ward in the second baseman.
So three up, three down the first time that's happened to the Farmington offense today happens in the seventh.
I think they're okay with it.
We're headed to the bottom of the last period.
You got to score six to keep this one going.
Don't go anywhere.
You're watching the centennial Bank State Softball Championship on Arkansas.
PBS Sports Today can be a new beginning.

Ford Says Arkansas Home for High School Sports.
But we need your support.
Make it happen.
So how last to the last right here.
Bottom of the seventh period, you got a little work to do if they want to extend this contest.
Farmington has a six nothing lead here in the fourth state softball game.
Farmington looking to add another trophy, the already cool trophy case.
This is the ninth finals appearance for the Lady Cardinals Electronic win, their first title since 2019 and the first title since 2011, looking for their fourth ever state championship.
They wanted 2000 2005, the last time they hosted the Gold trophy 2011 and lost to it was caught stealing from enough to ruin the record.
Three outs away, though, Morgan Reeves trying to finish it out.
The freshman in the circle has been certainly impressive, allowed two hits, four strikeouts walked only one.
That was her 80th pitch of the contest.
She has been effective.
She's trusted her defense on misses, though.
Hi.
This year here at Perry's, you've got to be patient.
Some coaches have the approach of you take pitches until they throw your strikes hope tacklers watch to go out of the zone here so she's way ahead in the count that one no catches in these you know the butterflies or at least the size of the softball and all those girls on the field right now, if not even bigger force playing with the six nothing league could help you calm down a little bit.
One swing of the mask not going to hurt you, honestly.
Five swings of the bats not going to hurt you.
So you got some some leeway that's what you can't afford to do is issue free base pass.
That's just one misfire here away from it.
She's been clean, though, today.
Only one free pass issue for.
Morgan Reese, I wouldn't be shocked if the nerves are there in a good way.
She's three outs away.
She's feeling it.
So maybe just a little bit out of not out of control, but she's missing some spots here.
Here that one misses Low in away, though.
So Hope Counselor draws the leadoff walk and you've mentioned a couple of times Candida Griggs is the number two pitcher if Harmison decides to go that route.
Of course, Tate Reeves is certainly earned the right to try to finish this one off herself.
The for me, we really think it may be another base for our guitar on maybe Jason Shirey, the coach of Farmington, thinks about making a move that when this is up, Gary Morgan agrees that 84 innings of work this year right back into the strike zone there is that one fouled away by Haley Wiley.
She doubled back in the fifth inning, first hit of the contest for Pete Ridge.
They do have to now.
She also reached the third an error that a line right at the second baseman no play made the first try to get the attack lyric second can't get it done but they do it more importantly get the outs I think Dave when he was a little bit frozen right there, she couldn't really decide to the third over the second.
The short cover in that that she got over the third the first, like you said at least just to get it around is what they needed.
But he does have one in scoring position now might have had a chance to get the lead runner.
Has she kind of held up there?
Did counselor.
But besides her to get the sure outs which is probably the smart thing to do when you're playing with a six nothing league now?
Miguel Rogers for one sacrifice bunt in the third popped out to the pitcher trying to get a ball down to the fifth one line to the left side.
And I say that was down so not the catch not made by the shortstop.
You're so first and second.
Now for Perry.
Hey the umpiring crew going to get together, discuss this to see if the catch was made or if the ball did in fact hit the ground.
Yeah.
Yeah.
They were pointing to the ground immediately, like the ball hit the turf.
And based the scene from Coach Reynolds, it looks like they might be saying she caught that just his reaction is certainly a close play.
Looking at it from Angle looked like she might have it might have made that ball I had 2020 at one point, not quite so much anymore, but it yeah, that's close.
That's certainly close now.
Coach Josh Reynolds out now on the field trying to get an explanation of what's going on.
I know the sounds cut off at that angle, but let's get you.
So they're going to say that the play was made.
So a line out the shorts as the second out of the inning.
So just a runner on second base, one out away now for Farmington first pitch swing and that was sent to left field over the left fielder's head.
Perry is going to get on the board and RBI double there for Ashland shorts.
So the story is not written just yet for Farmington as Peter.
It stayed on credit.
The Braves are continuing to battle and gain a little bit of pride back to, you know, you're not going to get shut out and this is actually it looked like we were going to have three shutouts to start these softball finals.
But because there just continuing to battle now, how big is that play made by the shortstop Morgan York said she caught it is too likely would have scored there so either way now it's 6 to 1.
Farmington, Natalie cut to five.
And now the top of the order to repeat.
Right.
So exactly who you want on servers two outs for the runner in scoring position for Lexi Vigil, who's looking for her first hit of the contest Harris strikeouts and Groundout to third down now and slap that foul over to the left side.
Yeah Logan Reeves now over 90 pitches located just now one out away from the fourth state title and Farmington score history on stays up and out of the zone.
I just put two and two together.
I called the Farmington Girls Basketball Championship this year as well.
They actually love to hear my voice.
That one's chops Third base.
Simon foul.
So now down to the final strike.
This period as 3024 has been pretty kind foreign and boys made basketball they got runner up girls won in state as was the baseball team made a pretty strong run to it and then it's all over now.
The way I want to count to the leadoff hitter, Lexi Vigil, two outs here in the seventh, just off the outside corner vigil thought that one monocle to the corner of the plate as well.
The count now even at two and two vigil, just has not been able to figure it out for Morgan Reid.
She's really struggled to make contact that one.
No high all counts for.
What do you think's going through Morgan Rees's mind right now?
Full count.
Got a runner on you got a chance to end the game right here, 14, 15 years old on this stage.
The freshman trying to go a complete game three, two pitch that one another check swing.
We've seen vigil do that time and time again.
Their time of day this afternoon.
I guess it's still this morning.
Countless checks, swings and the way to stay alive with battle here from vigil and each another payoff, pitch runner out second for rich, another foul off by Lexi Vigil.
She's staying alive.
Yeah, well, strike out in the first.
Strike out in the third.
Bring it out to third base in the fifth inning.
The three point appearances for vigil, the freshman Reaves trying to close it out for Farmington.
That one no misses up and out of zone.
So she draws in two out walk so two runners on now for the lady Blackhawks tell you don't tell Peoria's that they got two outs they're certainly playing like they're just battling and getting runners on Looks like they're going to have a visit to the circle and settle things down for their freshman pitcher, Morgan Reeves.
Maybe trying to lighten the mood a little bit because obviously the last out is always the toughest to get.
One run out already across here in the inning, four pit ridge runners at first and second after eight pitches there.
Lexi Vigil used to draw the walk, experience the action all over again next week once all the championship games on PBS, on the CBS app at any time lately.
Zane, the warden has flown out three times in the contest twice the last the sinner looking for her first base hit of the contest trying to extend the game four peat rich right on top of the plate.
First pitch swinging that's popped up back to the catcher.
Can she make a play?
Does she make the play say no As it hit the net, he got a little assistance.
The home plate umpire, Blair Cartwright right there says that made contact with the netting so it immediately blown dead.
So that's just a harmless foul ball broadness.
Hacking at the first pitch, you kind of see it made some contact maybe with a PBS sign right there.
That's good placement.
The one pitch, the back to the pitcher off the glove underneath the glove of the shortstop here.
So that's to allow one run to score for the bridge and the contest stays alive.
The winner Wheeler swinging the bat from this being a one run game possibly so that one tips off the glove of the pitcher.
Now, that may be a routine play for the shortstop, but either way, the Lady Blackhawks finding a way to stay alive with the RBI award and brings up Carlie Cooper, the catcher she singled in the last inning when he body is going to make this a one run game, it's Carlie Cooper, two on, two out, two already across here in the inning.
COOPER One for three.
I want a lifted to right back to the wall.
He's got a three run homer for Cooper and this is a one run game.
I guess I spoke that into existence.
Good enough already.
This game is getting interesting in a hurry.
This is crazy as hey know, I was there, I guess.
And Morgan Reeves, his first start against Harper in the Barnes and tournament.
They did.
I think it was actually Peter Morgan who O'Malley soon hit a three run walk off and they were down by six or seven runs.
So far from over, far from open.
Indeed.
Carli Cooper goes deep.
Her first home of the season keeps the Pirates Blackhawks season alive.
Three run shots, lands just outside the bullpen and five runs have been pushed across here in the inning for Pennridge.
The no changes, though, for Farmington.
They're going to stick with Morgan Reese if she can close this thing out.
And it's pitcher versus pitcher here.
Avery Boland steps up.
She's all for two.
Also drawn a walk Boland first pitch swing and that was left center field.
Shirey back makes the play Farmington wins the four state championship.
And just adding to that it's a dynasty.
I guess you can't call it a dynasty as many times as they've been here.
Just incredible.
Avery, you talked at the very beginning, yet you had a strong feeling this is going to be probably a 4 to 1 team that comes out on top for the second year in a row.
It is it is both worry one team's and just ends up being the best game that we have done so far.
Period scores five in the seventh inning but could not get all the way back.
Just too big of a hole to climb out of.
We'll step aside trophy presentation and find out who the MVP is in just a bit.
What a finish to this one.
Farmington wins it six five.

Not without a little drama, but Farmington finds a way to win the for a state softball championship and they get the trophy for which they came.
That's the gold one as they take down t ridge 6 to 5 even though it got a little dicey there on the Aggies feet Ridge scores five in the seventh inning but just not enough to get out of that hole.
Yeah start off by crediting heat ridge for what they were able to do just because I mean it was more than Reeves had had a no hitter going and until you jinxed her there in the third they thought she gave that up in the four that double up in the fifth inning.
But just an incredible performance there by the freshman.
But she definitely did not show that this was the big state by any means.
She played just like she had been all year, just very calm, but a great comeback there, about to emerge with that triple and eventually score by re Shirey seemed pretty meaningless at the time as it made it six nothing but t rage started to chip away all with two outs.
But that time the big blow there, the three run homer from Cooper made it a 6 to 5 contest, but they just could not get all the way back as a fly to center field ends it and Farmington wins the state championship for the fourth time in school history, taking down their carcass rival by a score of 625.
We're just getting warmed up here on Arkansas PBS, one down, three more to go here from the campus of the University of Central Arkansas.
