Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipBoy, it is a beautiful day here in Saline County, Benton, AR is the site of our 6A state championship game between the Bentonville Tigers and the Conway Wampus Cats tell everyone I'm RJ Honk along with Kyle Deckelbaum for today's 6A classification game, and Kyle, you've got two teams.
Rich in tradition in high school baseball, one team who's been here a lot.
Not very good in title games, but then you got another team in Bentonville who really kind of hit the good luck charm during the state tournament.
Yeah, that's the amazing thing.
I think about both these teams.
You.
These are two tradition rich programs and almost every sport to be here on this stage.
I think if you were to ask both these coaches, did you think you'd be here at some point during the season?
Both would probably say no.
Both teams have had kind of their Jekyll and Hyde moments a bit over the course of the season.
Bentonville, as you reference RJ actually lost five of six at one point.
In the course of the season and yet they have sort of caught lightning in a bottle.
A joke with their head coach Todd Abbott about that and he just sort of smiled and said it has been fun.
Think about where Bentonville was and their semifinal game.
They're down to their last out trailing 31.
They come back score six runs in the top of the 7th to get here.
Are you kidding?
I mean, this is a they're they're very gritty team that this Bentonville team is and we will go through their entire starting lineup, but let's flip over to Conway for a minute.
This is under second year.
Coach Leighton Hardin, who came from Lakeside.
And he's a Conway guy.
Essentially, wife said, you know what, wherever your first coaching job is gonna be.
That's where we're gonna stay.
Well turns out to be the 2nd so much for that, right?
He's a UCLA grad among his many degrees as Conway takes the field here.
And boy, what a special second year for him.
You know this is exactly what you hope and you take over for a legend.
A guy who won 700 games more than 700 games and Noel Boucher.
And he's actually sitting in the front row here.
Certainly can't miss this, and yeah.
I mean to make it here in your second season.
It's exactly what you hope for.
Well, Conway is gonna be the home team in this one as they come in with an 18 and 9 record out of the six.
A central Bentonville is 23 and 10 and they are in the West Division Bentonville, wearing their Gray pants with black tops and gold numerals.
Conway, and they're all white uniforms trimmed in blue with blue letters, blue numerals and white hats.
The alignment in the infield for Conway on the mound.
You've got.
Austin Rainey, 43 innings pitched.
Sheer has a one point six four ERA with sixty two strikeouts.
His battery is gonna be Zach Schuba.
The catcher on at first base will be will Thompson second base, Sam Greg, Connor Cunningham, 's at shortstop Tucker Satterfield will be in third base in the outfield.
You've got Preston proc.
Eric Rojas is in centerfield and Logan French will be the right fielder today for Conway now for this Bentonville team.
Kyle.
This is a team that's no stranger to runs.
They have produced a hundred and ninety six runs this year for the Tigers.
And Luke Crumpler is going to lead things off of the Tigers, and they do it so differently.
Bentonville and Conway Bentonville.
A power team 16 home runs this season.
They're no strangers along Ball Conway.
It's been a little bit more pitching and defense.
I think only four home runs combined as a team here and Luke Crumbler will lead things off, leads the team and hips, and runs excellent.
Kind of pace setter for this lineup.
And he'll take a ball outside to start this 6A championship game and it'll start one to know, you know, it's kind of interesting about this this match up here to begin things two future.
Teammates 2 future UA Rich Mountain commits in Austin, Rainey and Luke Crumpler fastball hits an outside corner at 83 miles an hour.
It's one in one.
One ones a change up top.
It's two in one.
You know what we've seen so far in the two a game as well as this game, a lot of recruits going to Rich Mountain and we've talked about this before that.
It's not just because you get that small offer doesn't mean you don't have a chance to go somewhere big as there's a pop up to right field and battling the sun a little bit makes the catch for the first down here in the top of the first.
Yeah all about getting at bats for sure.
Once you get to that college level, get that film.
You know.
Certainly far better to be there and give some playing.
Then go somewhere else.
A good start for Austin Rainey.
Here.
He's kind of often been Conway starter this season.
They use some combination of Austin Rainey and Preston Prock and Hugh Hill and Rainey getting the start here.
So Kiper paints going to be at the plate.
He's the center fielder today, batting 288 with twelve RBI this season.
First pitch fastball catches the inside corner of the plate at 85 miles an hour, and so and one.
Rainy threw A3 hitter against Rogers Heritage in the semifinals.
That kind of limited his innings, I think for most of the season, but they will use him here.
Curveball with a check swing, and they're going to say it's a ball and don't leave the count at 1 apiece.
2 Lefties on the mound today between Conway and Bentonville.
You've got Zach Jahosky for Bentonville.
Austin Rainey on the mound for Conway.
Here's the 11 fastball misses outside, and it's two in one.
We'll keep your paid had that go ahead single against Harvard giving Bentonville a 4-3 lead.
One of the many clutch hitters in this Tiger lineup.
Here's a change of that.
Misses low, and that extends the count to three in one for pain.
Here's the three one delivery and it's chopped out to the third baseman for Conway.
Satterfield's got it nice stretch at first base by Will Thompson, and that's two outs here at the top of the first.
Well done there dude.
Stretch that right leg and bend a little bit to get the out.
Certainly took a pretty good throw across the diamond from third, you know, one thing to watch in this game too.
RJ you guys saw it in the in the two a game earlier today.
Is this turf infield?
It's got the tendency to have some pretty bad hops who saw in that first game there was a one ball that kind of swiped the third baseman's cheek almost.
Here's Gryska Weitz as he'll take a fastball 85 on the outside part of the plate.
Stefan Griscom, Wiz 342 hitter with six home runs, 28 RBI, and look how big he is on that right side to play.
Big man.
RJ yeah.
01 curveball catches the outside corner at 72 and it's own two.
He is listed at 652 sixty.
The build of a football player.
He's in a state commit, and I think Butch Jones could use him.
Here's the O2 swan and fouled off now, how intimidating?
If you're Austin Rainey.
To be staring down a 652 sixty hitter?
When's the last time you saw a 652 sixty hitter in high school?
Never?
O2's account 2 outs top of the first inning curveball got him swinging, and 123 goes Bentonville here in the Class 6A championship Game Boy.
Come back.
Conway will be at the place and you're watching this Centennial Bank State Baseball championships on Arkansas PBS Sports.

Zach Suhoski is going to be the starting pitcher for Bentonville today 55 and a third innings pitched.
He's three and three on the year with a 2.15 ERA, 89 strike counts with only 18 walks to his credit so far this year, and he'll be on the mountain.
The battery for with him is going to be rolling Christensen behind the plate at first base.
You've got Tony Woody.
Crumpler, that second, Jackson Hutchins is at short, Ethan Arnold's at third base in the outfield.
Carter Nye Typer, Payton Center, and Drew writes in right field, leading things off for Conway will be Logan French, the right fielder as he works on the left side to start at the bottom of the first inning.
What's the fastball inside four strike and that'll start Logan French off here in the bottom of the first was the Hoskie earlier in the state tournament facing North Little Rock, 101 innings pitch the 101 pitches I should say 6 innings pitch four hits, one earned run.
You know the big thing in that game too.
They had the lead and and Zahodski said he was able to calm down and relax a little bit because Bentonville jumped out against the charging Wildcats?
O2's a curveball?
It's foul tipped and that'll some French back to the plate.
You can already tell two RJ he's not afraid to attack hitters, and you saw that in that North Little Rock game.
He'll make speeds.
Looks like they're going to have.
Believe he's getting his other batting glove too.
Or a batting glove.
You know, one thing, it's a little warm out there right now.
Colin.
The humidity is high here in Benton, so you starting to have that that sweat roll off onto your hands.
You don't want that to fly out of your hands.
And we know it's probably not as bad as it could be this time of year.
But it is more point.
It is warm nonetheless, especially on that Turf's account.
Kerbal misses high and it's over wanted to.
Yeah, the the turf adds a few degrees when you get those rubber pellets as the one two pitch is a fastball missing inside.
He was the count up at 2 apiece.
You and I walked out there for a little bit and kind of walked around.
It's a huge difference as soon as you step on that turf.
Here's the tutus swung on looking out the right center field.
That'll get down for a base hit in the power alley goes.
He'll hit the second for a double as he looks at third, he'll hold up there, and that's the first base here.
The ball game.
A good piece of hitting there too from France.
He was down in the count and kind of finds a pitch he likes.
His team high 15th double this season for Logan French.
So now that brings up the picture.
Austin Rainey who's hitting 418 on the year with 27 RBI as well as the home run.
This is not a very big home running home run hitting team for Conway's four home runs combined.
Pitching and defense have kind of been their keys all season.
But it's gotta feel good.
You know you're coming off a game where you scored ten runs in the state tournament.
First pitch to rainy misses inside starts off one and one.
You talk about a kid who does it all starting pitcher today leads the team in walks and RBI as well.
So Haski looks back at second.
Now.
Here's the pitch since swung on and missed the 85 miles an hour.
On deck for Conway is gonna be Tucker Satterfield.
Here's the one.
One shows bunt, but pulls it back and makes it two in one.
Now you know, one thing that we noticed was saaski is whenever he was and didn't have anybody on.
He was working pretty quickly.
Now that he's got a runner on, he has slowed that delivery down dramatically.
He hasn't and I wonder where they can do the runner at 2nd.
They're not holding him back.
There's a two once, one out to short, there's Hutchins, who makes the play 6 three on the put out.
If you're scoring back at home, but that'll advance Logan French to third base, and that'll be the first out here in the bottom of the first inning.
And that comes.
Satterfield, sophomore third baseman.
Semifinal win walked, stole second and scored.
He makes things happen.
581, fifty, five, but he has been a great hitter for Conway Satterfield, averaging 310 this year is a big curveballs.
In there called a strike, well, that was a big looping curveball.
First strike.
01's a fastball that catches the outside corner to make it open too.
I think you could tell Conway's approach already.
This is a pretty patient team, aren't they?
Yeah, they really are.
Take a lot of pitches.
Another high offspeed pitch that misses way high and so.
I don't bring the count to one and two, they have 124 walks as a team.
They drew eight walks against Rogers Heritage Heritage.
Runner at third base for Conway and that sword on lifted the right center field getting changed.
It's over the center fielders head.
That'll be a run scored for Conway.
They're gonna try to leg out a triple, that being Satterfield and he'll slide into third safely.
It's an RBI triple for Conway and for Tucker Satterfield and the Wampus Cats are on the board 1st and Satterfield, so patient in that at bat finally gets to pitch you likes and that just kept caring.
Thought the center fielder Peyton was really gonna have a good shot at it and that just kept going and.
You know you guys talked about it earlier today.
RJ there is a large gap in right center left center in this field.
The ball can carry out there and just keep going and we saw it.
That wasn't even close at third base.
Well, the dimensions here at the field down the left field line is 320.
It's 355 in the power alleys on both left and right field dead Centers 375 and down the right field lines 320 but you know the way that it plays.
We saw in the two a game.
Everybody kind of shifts towards the left field a little bit as the first pitch.
Fouled off.
Here's the O one pitch fastball.
This is inside even the count of 1 apiece.
Today's A officials for this game.
Your head umpire is going to be chance.
Wilson Ken Gwen is the first baseman and then Toby Mile.
Milam is going to be the third base umpire.
One one is fouled off and brings the count to one and two.
17 pitches already for suhoski.
Again, he threw 101 against North Little Rock.
They will keep him in there, but just one out.
1/2 on the way fastball misses low.
I'll bring the count to two and two, you know there, there's a slight breeze blowing here at the ballpark and it's kind of a swirling wind because as we were in the top of the first, it was blowing a little bit to the left.
Now it's blowing over to right field.
Two twos fouled off.
A red flag out right straight out.
There's the two two pitch.
Offspeed pitch misses high, and that's now three and two.
One out here in the bottom of the first inning runner at 3rd for Conway.
3/2's gonna hit him.
So that'll put Glover down at first base after the hit by pitch.
And now Zach Schuba is gonna be at the play.
UCLA commit Zach schuba.
Two good catchers in this game, and this is one of them.
And I was I was just gonna say I think here comes coach Todd Abbott.
I was just gonna say this is might be the time you wanna go out there and try to calm him down just a little bit.
Yeah, and because he was rolling there for the first, you know first couple batters but couple base hits giving up and now hit by pitch and he's got a got to calm those nerves a little bit.
You often have that in a state championship game no matter the sport.
Football, baseball, basketball.
You get out there and your little amped up, you're ready to go and you can see that when there was no.
I mentioned this moment ago when nobody was on.
He was really getting after it.
I mean there wasn't much delay in between pitches and then.
You kind of see that he tensed up a little bit as somebody got on back on the backs certainly slowed down.
Now Todd Abbott earned his 300th win earlier this season.
Came in a four two win over their rival Fayetteville.
So Zach Schubert to play batting 217 on the year with 19 RBI's has one out here in the bottom of the fifth inning or first in excuse me.
That's a check swing called a strike.
Feels like the 5th, the way Conway's kind of gotten into this stuff.
And it really does.
That's a foul tip into the glove and bring it to one too.
Schuba bats in that 5 hole for Conway on deck will be will Thompson.
Throw over first base.
I would just try to keep monast good crowd on hand here in Bend today is.
A lot of folks from Conway and Bentonville made their way down here to watch the six a title game.
O2's on the way that's fouled off over to the Bentonville dugout?
And I feel for these Bentonville fans.
They are directly facing the sun.
Yeah, Conway in the shade here.
Yeah, if you if you drew the visiting dugout, you are not liking this.
Four o'clock game.
No, you better not have forgotten your sunglasses.
O2's up high?
They're gonna appeal it down on the check swing and it'll bring it to one and two.
This will be the 25th pitch for saaski still just one out.
One twos found back and and here's the deal with Zach Schuber.
Any of these guys?
I mean, they're making him pitch a lot of pitches here in the first inning, and you know, even if Shuba strikes out or or flies out whatever.
He's making suhoski throw a lot right now.
Semifinal game.
Conway scored three runs on bases, loaded walks that tell you a lot.
Yeah, there's a change up outside evens the count at 2 apiece.
It's not like this is a real senior laid in Conway team either.
To be this patient.
Yeah, they're very young team as the two two swung on and foul back.
But you you also got to think about the communities I mean.
Conway is a is a baseball town.
I mean they they invest in their Little League sports throughout the city.
Bryant Benton those I mean you can name probably five or six towns across Arkansas that are baseball towns.
As the two twos in there called a strike at 85 two ounce now here in the first show a great pitch to hit that inside corner there.
I think that's a great point.
You see.
See that pitch?
On well framed as well by Christensen.
Yeah 2 great communities here and I think it speaks to just how hungry these two fan bases are to see a state championship well Thompson's at the plate now.
As there is a change up that catches the outside corner and so in one for Bentonville, their first state championship game, since they won it all in 2015 when they actually beat Conway 65.
Conway hasn't won since 2011.
They were here in twenty 1801.
Runner goes catcher bobbled it and for Bentonville.
Christensen just couldn't get his hands on it correctly, and so that'll be a stolen base for.
Cole Glover 11's account.
That's swung on, lifted high to right field.
He's going back to the warning track.
He's at the wall.
It's out of here.
It's a three run home run.
Poor will Thompson.
You know, we just said a moment ago, Cowboys, not much of a home run hitting team and he was able to get under that one.
Wanna swing this is not conways game whatsoever and you see him taking his time around the base pass as he should make the most of this moment.
I think coach late and Harden has to be a surprise as anybody to see that go over the right field wall.
Just past that 355 marker.
This is not the Wampus Cats game whatsoever, but this is familiar territory for Conway.
They have had the lead in all these games.
Bentonville has trailed in their games as we mentioned at the top of the broadcast.
They need to come back and all of them.
Here's Conor Cunningham, who takes a first pitch strike on the outside, you know, Connor Cunningham is actually the son of UCA baseball associate.
The coach, Justin Kenningham as the old one, pitch misses outside and it's now one in one.
And Justin's coach since he was 26 years old.
So Connor has.
Connor has been around the game for a long time.
Here's a change.
After this is over the back of Cunningham, bring the count to two and one you know going back to that home run Kyle that I mean you got to really get on it to get over that 3:55 when we mentioned the wind blowing out to right and that I don't think that hurt for sure, but but no you got to get a hold of that.
Here's the 21 fastball catches the outside corner to even things up at 2 apiece.
Seducers are wild here in the bottom of the fourth inning.
That's foul tipped into the glove of Christiansen, and that'll do it for the 4th, but not until Conway hangs a four spot here in the bottom of the four first inning on three hits.
They don't leave anybody on the bags.
We head to the top of the second inning, where Conway leads Bentonville 4 to nothing.
You're watching the Centennial Bank State Baseball championships on Arkansas.
PBS sports.

We are the electric cooperatives of Arkansas.
Power and people.
Did you know fans could see the live game stats before redo download the Arkansas PBS engage app to get all the numbers during the live game and RJ plenty of numbers so far?
Yeah, they're really has.
I mean, Conway hangs a four spot in the bottom of the first inning after a three run home run by their six hole hitter.
Will Thompson and for Will Thompson?
That is his own.
That's only his second home run of the season.
And so now Benton's going to be back up.
They'll have their 456 hitters do up with Tony Woody leading the way.
Woody, the first baseman today batting 385 with three home runs and twenty RBI.
And the first pitch, by Rainey, is in the dirt or in the turf, and it's now one to know.
Now only four Conway Wampus Cats have home runs this season and Thompson was one of them.
Make that too.
One ball, no strikes.
As woody take one outside to bring the count to two, and oh, you know I had somebody send me a tweet earlier when we were doing the two way game, they were watching an Arkansas PBS and they've never seen a turf baseball field and.
They were looking at and they said is that real dirt out there?
And it's unfortunate it's it's actually turf dirt.
It's interesting.
I mean big yellow for the two, a game went over to Conway Christian.
To to try to prepare for this, and now Bentonville plays on a turf field they're there.
Outfield's real grass, but their infield is turf.
Conway went down to Majestic Park in Hot Springs and UCA to to try to prepare for this and Bentonville, though is only turf on the infield right?
And they've got a grass outfield for their stadium.
You know, that's what UCA used to be actually was before they turned the whole thing.
They they went to a grass outfield with a turf infield.
Here's the 31 swan and missed big Rip and an 84 mile an hour fastball to bring the count to three and two.
Woody's a big hitter.
He had a three run home run to cap A6 run 7th that we mentioned at the top of the broadcast against harbor.
Kind of put the exclamation point on that game.
And the full count goes outside.
That'll be a walk to Tony Woody to start things off here in the second.
So now that brings up Drew Wright, the right fielder batting 300 on the year with two home runs and nine RBI's there's a lot of lefties in this lineup for Bentonville.
Yeah, two lefty pitchers today.
A lot of lefties that are able to come to the plate.
Fastballs in there called the strike.
You know, it's crazy when you think about it.
RJ Bentonville finished fourth.
In the West, yeah, I mean talk about being tested on your way here behind Rogers, behind harbor.
One is out of play behind South Side.
Made a five and six stretch this year, but we were talking with their head coach Todd Abbott before the game and he said they're just finally playing up to.
The expectations of that he had for his team.
And you know, if you look across 6A.
For majority of the year, the best team was Catholic.
Catholic was kind of the team to beat, and Bentonville was the team that came and and knocked them off.
You had to come from behind to do it.
76 win they scored seven runs in all three of their.
State tournament games.
Might take more than 7 today.
Yeah, I think so.
Here's the O2 and that's foul back.
You know, Conway has not given up a run in the state tournament.
I mean, that's no.
They only played two two games, but right?
They shut out both teams, which is which is saying something.
Yeah, yeah, I mean, two great pitchers and rainy and hail.
And I think we're going to see both in this game.
The fastball that misses way high that'll bring the count to one and two.
When I think about that Carl, I mean not giving up a run in two games in the state tournament, you'd think you'd give away a cheapie or something along the way, 3 nothing and 10 nothing wins.
Here's the one too that's Swan.
Lift it out the left center field.
Going back to the warning track is the center fielder for Conway Eric Rojas.
He'll make the catch, hold the runner at 1st and that'll be the first out boy that ball carried as well.
Yeah, it should do it in, and I think there was a second.
It was hanging up there and you're hoping that Rojas and and proc out there and left are are talking to each other and communicating.
But an excellent throwback in to hold the runner at first too.
Look at this ball, Carrie.
Yeah, I mean, it just kept going and going and.
And we're right at the wall.
So Jackson Hutchins, the shortstops, up next batting 267 with 13 RBI runners at first for Bentonville.
And that's one thing we haven't talked about.
You know, as far as playing on turf is, I think you're typically used to as an outfielder.
You feel that dirt when you get close to the warning track, and there's no difference when you get close to the fence.
No.
And I have great communication with your other outfielders, says Steve Fastball.
Misses high and throw down is safe.
There we go.
Four to nothing is our score.
Conway on top of Bentonville in the six, a title game.
One owns a fastball that caught the inside corner.
It's 11.
There's a change up that misses high and now goes two in one.
Runner goes to 2nd.
They'll throw down and they got him.
That was a great throw.
By Zach schuber.
The ball was high, but it actually was perfect for him to be able to get it and throw it.
And he had him dead to rights and 2nd.
That's a great point.
Excellent throw and look at the positioning too.
Right in front of the bag.
He can't blame Bentonville for trying to get a little bit aggressive here.
But what a throw.
So since it was a ball, that'll bring the count to three and one for Jackson Hutchins.
And now.
There's a strike and brings it to three and two.
And just wipes out your momentum, doesn't it?
And you gotta run her on and feel like you might do something here.
3 twos on the way fastball misses outside.
Conway, Facebook are not happy about that one, but Adelson Hutchins, the first base and now.
These seven hole hitter Rowan Christensen the catcher will be at the plane, and I think Schuba does his best to frame this year.
Let's take another look.
I dragged it in.
I think it was a good call.
Yeah, I'm with you.
Now batting the catcher #17, you could tell he felt like he needed to move that just enough that it's probably a sign that.
He knew there was a bit outside.
So Christensen on the year batting 149 with six RBI's take a fastball or a called strike.
Curveball misses high and takes the count one in one.
On deck is Carter Nye the left fielder for Bentonville.
11 right there at the belt.
Brings the count to one and two.
And coach Todd Abbott says Carson really does the little things well plays beyond his ears.
Just a sophomore.
One two hits the turf.
It's now two and two.
We've seen Schubas arms so far in this game, and.
Christensen, just as capable as far as shutting down runners in the base paths.
To two offerings fouled off.
Conway and four Austin Rainey, that's his 36th pitch so far.
As we are in the top of the second inning.
Fastball misses high, takes the count full at three and two.
I'm surprised he's approaching 40 pitches, aren't you?
Right now both pitchers for Bentonville and Conway have each thrown 37 apiece.
Here's the three two.
It's popped up left side shallow left field.
Cunningham's there to make the catch, and that'll get Bentonville out of the inning.
We in the top of the second inning.
No runs, no hits, no errors, one left on we head to the bottom of the second inning.
The Wampus Cats are coming to the plate.

As we head back to the ball game where the bottom of the second inning where Conway's at the place, they put up four runs in the bottom of the first inning and leave this ball in Game 4 nothing and up.
First we Preston Brock the 8 hole hitter, we'll go 891 and proc on the season batting 323 and he'll take a first pitch strike to start things off.
He's been their second pitcher in a lot of games.
They kind of go with a left, right, left combo to throw off opposing offenses.
So the Council went too.
Now after that swinging a miss and quickly proch is in the hole.
Fastball misses outside.
It's really nice having a guy like proc at the bottom of your order.
Batting 323 is that fastball misses outside and his two and two.
You know a lot of times you'll see some guys that are not so great hitters that you're 7-8 guys and Conway's got Proc batting 323 in their eight hole and then Sam Greg it's 263 and their nine hole and I'll make things full at three and two.
Yeah, I think you're right.
I think you see it, especially in high school.
You see a lot of top heavy lineups.
Here's the three two.
It's a high chopper route to 3rd.
Making the high throw in the catch you know, was Arnold the Woody and that's the first out here.
In the second a nice play by Woody over there and.
Ethan Arnold playing that turf pretty well.
As we mentioned, we saw some wicked hops in that 2A game this morning.
So now Sam Gregg's at the plate.
As I said, batting 263 with twelve RBI.
He's the second baseman today for Conway.
Fastball is gonna miss and get underneath the catcher and I'll start things off.
Want to know?
One of those a fastball it's inside called the strike.
It's one in one.
We mentioned our young Conway is bottom of the lineup, sophomore, junior Junior.
Here's a slow rower out to short 63 on the put out.
There's two outs now here on the set.
So now that it takes you back to the top of the line up is Logan.
French is up and Logan had a double out to right field back in the 1st and he later came around to score.
He'll be up in the left handed batters box.
Swung on and fouled off.
What a great start for Suhoski here too.
After that rough first.
And you're right, RJ he.
He has a little bit of a a tempo to him when he's pitching well.
Pitches outside and.
That ones found off and it's now and two.
Well, you're right, Kyle.
You mentioned it back in the first inning.
If you were sitting on that, I'm sitting here watching the difference in the crowd.
Conway's all in the shade over here in Bentonville.
He's got it right in their face, but it doesn't really matter because their team just got out of the second inning on a strike out.
And so Conway.
Those 123 in the second we head to the top of the third inning where the Tigers they're gonna try to get a run on the board.
Here in the top of the third, you're watching the Centennial Bank State Baseball Championships, an Arkansas PBS sports.

Back here in Benton 4, nothing Conway leads the Bentonville Tigers.
Four runs, three hits for Conway Bentonville's yet to register a run or a.
Hit so far in this one you see head coach Todd Abbott there.
And how about for what a second season here for Conway's Layton Harden?
I tell you RJ, I don't think anybody any coach in America has more degrees than Layton Harden.
Malvern High grad.
He earned his NBA UCA.
He starts his career in the banking industry.
Two years later.
He says, forget this, I'm going into coaching, you know, get his Master of Arts and teaching and Henderson State and begins teaching at Malvern and then over to Lakeside as an assistant in 2014.
Takes over as their baseball coach and after five years here years of Conway.
How many baseball coaches have an MBA and a master in arts.
He was in banking before he got it into being a coach.
We start at the top, the third is.
There's a bunt down the third base side by Carter Nye, and they'll start things off.
Oh, and one well, you know the the legend for Conway.
Long time no Boucher baseball coach.
No Boucher, he's here watching the ball game.
He's on the front row, watching the Wampus Cats play.
It's Owen one and it's found off down the right field side.
There he is right there.
Coach Boucher is sitting back and getting some sun and that's his longtime assistant coach looters.
Both those guys retired at the same time from Conway.
No Boucher had 700 wins as a head coach at Conway with Wampus Cats.
And you know, he wouldn't miss this 36 seasons.
Two state titles started the program in 85.
The O2 pitch was high and so that brings the count to one and two.
And the program off to Layton Harden with the time took over.
He was 36 now 37.
One two is up high two and two you know late and I actually went to school together at UC he informed me of that whenever we were out there and.
I remembered I'm not that old.
I remembered at least you played it off.
Well, yeah, here's the two too.
This coach messed it inside.
No, I did.
I did remember that.
Scale three and two now.
That one's gonna miss inside Bentonville's got a runner on the bags with a leadoff walk.
So that will bring up the 9 hole hitter Ethan Arnold, the third baseman batting 276 on the air.
15 RBI's and so Arnold will be at the plate with night at first base.
Bottom of the order here for Bentonville has gotten.
Nothing going offensively so far today, and a runner at first gunned down at 2nd, and that's about it.
Take move over to 1st.
I will say this about coach Abbott for Bentonville.
You know you and I have been doing high school sports in Arkansas for a long time and oftentimes it's hard to get information about teams and coach Abbott man.
He was on it.
I mean, probably did.
I emailed him on a Monday and we talked on a Tuesday and he had everything to me about Tuesday night.
Well done.
I mean, he.
He's proud of these kids and and everything that Bentonville done.
And and Layton Harden was the same way.
Yeah, kept kept really good stats.
Yeah, and that's what you like seeing that coaches at the high school level doing everything they can to promote their kids as that's a check.
Swing down the right field.
Sign the parents as well.
There is usually somebody back there with the book who's or on a tablet.
Who's got to put those in and.
Believe me, you and I appreciate them.
Yeah, now it's it.
It takes a team effort.
It's parents, kids, everybody and both.
These two programs do a great job of of promoting their kids.
01's account with runner at 1st and throwback over to 1st.
Yeah, that's a guy too has been around baseball.
His dad was.
Drafted a few times, made it a AAA ball.
Yeah, North Little Rock native Glen Abbott.
He was drafted by the Mets in 91, the Blue Jays and 92 the Indians in 94 in the 80s and 95 WOW.
Pitch is high and misses it's one in one.
Here's the 11 throw down to first try to get the pick moving, he's safe.
Well, the throw almost beat him there.
And it was.
It was a nifty slide around the tag.
I think had that throw RJ been a little bit closer to the bag.
May have gotten him there.
That's right.
Hugh Hill, with the sign and throw over.
Hill took over here in the.
Top of the third inning.
For Austin Rainey, Rainey was up there in pitches and so hills on now.
Here's the two one that's fouled back.
Brings the count to two and two.
And I think quicker than we would have anticipated going to Hill.
53 strikeouts, 25 locks, opponents hitting just 165 against him and you can tell that big frame there.
642 thirty.
Here's the two two that's Swan and found back.
Hill has allowed eight runs in 40 innings pitched this season.
He's he's a big body out there and.
You go left, you left you on out of the out of the bullpen.
I don't know.
Throw over to 1st, spend a lot of time on that first.
Runner at first have been Carter 9.
Nye got some speed.
I mean he's the left fielder for.
For Bentonville.
Two toes up high, they throw down and it's over the first baseman's head.
Will Thompson had it go over and just like that, Carter and I will go into second base after throwing here.
Well, not now.
You'll start for Hill here you walked the first batter you face and then.
Certainly he's been on your mind as many times he's thrown over to 1st and tough throw and that gets him out and I think.
Coach could try to calm him down just a little bit here.
So Hugh Hill, walking over, and you know, oftentimes I've always said, you know, the more you sit there and throw over to and worry about the runner you're not focused on what's going on with play.
That's a great point, you know he's got the thing about it.
Is Conway's got a great catcher?
And Zach Shuba, who's already thrown out a guy in second base.
Frankly, I just don't think you need to spend that much attention on him when you've got that good of a catcher and you're facing the bottom of the order here too.
Yeah, I think it's a great point.
But even Arnold has got a full count.
Where the runner at 2nd right now.
And suddenly yes.
So a runner in scoring position.
Best chance for the Tigers so far today.
Here's the three two.
It's going to hit him.
So walk and a hit by pitch 2.
Begin hills outing.
So far 2 runners on for the Tigers without a hit.
So now that'll take Bentonville back to the top there.
Line up with Luke Crumpler at the plate, he flied to right field back in the first inning.
No outs here on the top of the third.
Now Benville has runners at 1st and 2nd.
Still, you have to produce a base hit in this ball game.
You're going to show bunt pulls it back, but it's a strike anyway.
Here's the one you gonna pull the bone out and he gets it down the left side of the mound.
Third, baseman's got it.
He bottled it and for a brief moment and had all advance the runners.
But boy, that was a scary situation because he couldn't get it out of his grump.
Sure was and he was kind of up on the pitchers mound as well.
The both riders advance.
So now you've got runners at second and third after the sack, and now.
Kiper pay the center fielder is gonna be at the play.
Batting 288 he grounded out to short back in the 1st.
Pete had that go ahead single against harbor to give Bentonville.
It's 4-3 lead so he has come up big so far in the state tournament.
Here's the fastball called strike starter 11.
Curveball boy that was a big breaking curveball that missed high.
There was one in one.
That big curve was in that scouting report for Hill good change up upper 80s on the fastball.
So that is as much movement as we've seen from any pitch so far.
11's account.
Fastball misses inside.
It's down two in one.
How big a moment is this for Bentonville?
Doesn't it feel like they just have to get?
Just one big hit, just one one run across here, yeah, well, I mean one big hit and you know you get a game changer.
Here's the two, one that's curveball in the dirt or, and you know, I, I say that a walk could, I mean, because if the river hit yet, and here they are, the way that Hugh Hill's working right now.
I mean, you get a walk with bases loaded.
And then you've got your 3 hole hitter.
Your big guy.
Coming to the plate.
Here's the three one fastball inside called the strike, got a full count.
Want you to get that call?
I think the.
Could command issues he's thrown you know, shown so far you're not always gonna get the benefit of the doubt there.
That's right.
3/2's on the way.
That's Swan lifted the center.
That'll be down for a base here.
That'll score one run for sure.
They'll hold him at third.
There's gonna advance the 2nd and they're gonna have runners at second and third now because the base hit by Pete.
It's an RBI single.
And so now that'll score.
Carter 9 Ethan Arnold will head to third base.
And now the three hole hitter Stefan Griscom Wiz is going to be at the plate.
He struck out back in the first inning.
Just a great swing and that's what happened to the leadoff walk and now hop out this match up RJ.
Between pitcher and batter.
A combined 500 pounds.
These are two big men.
Yeah 260 and 2:40.
This is what they cost.
Find boxing is a heavyweight matchup.
There's a fastball that misses outside.
Talked about gryska Wiz.
Having six home runs, he leads both teams with home runs.
The ASCO jabbett.
About him is one word is confident.
That's swung on and fouled off well.
I think it.
I think whenever we said, what do you think he says?
If he gets to gets a piece of it, he's gonna put a charge into it.
Yeah, he gets big boy hits yeah, yeah, I think I think all season he sort of had that role for them.
One in one's account.
Big curveball, and he tried to wait on that one.
Yeah, what a pitch there.
Now.
One and two with one out here in the third inning.
Kind of kind of plays to to risk with a little bit.
Doesn't cause he's got that uphill swing to him, yeah?
1/2 pitch misses outside, and it's even 22.
Two way.
Two twos outside and.
It misses at 71 miles an hour, and now it's three and two.
Only one out here in the third guy, I mean first base open.
You just gotta be so careful here, the hill.
Here's the three two.
That's swung on at the right field of face hit.
That'll score two runs.
For Bentonville, and we've got a new ball game as it's four to three.
The two RBI single for Guskiewicz and Bentonville in businesses are 4 hole hitter Tony when he comes to the plate.
Ohh, excellent job at risk.
Who's there to find the pitch that he likes?
Even counted 22.
Wait till that body was so patient in that at that and then finds the gap there in the right field.
Really stretched out for that one too.
It's just she's just so strong he could just hit that the opposite direction there.
And how about Bentonville?
Right back into this game?
Yeah, it's four to three.
Conway scored four in the bottom of the first Bentonville has now scored three in the top of the third on two base hits.
So now Tony Woody will be the plate back in the.
2nd inning he walked.
And then was later thrown out at second base.
So he'll be in the plane with.
One out here in the top of the third there is.
A foul back and there's a pitch runner for.
Chris Kowitz over at first base, and I believe that's going to be.
Believe that's Bryson delozier.
Here's the 01 that's Swan and math big.
RIP that time and it's Owen too.
So the losers at first base and wood he's got an 02 count on him here at the plate.
Swinging for everything on that last one.
He was one to give him the leaves.
With that last rip.
Here's the O2 that swung on and found out a play.
Think about this though for Hill.
He's now thrown 30 pitches so far in half inning.
You know in Rainey was pitching pretty well.
Yeah, I'm just so surprised they went to Hill that early, yeah?
But he's been there, guy.
Here's the O2 big curveball of pie that throw down its over the first baseman's head to losers headed to second base, and he'll hold up at 2nd.
Second time that's happened and.
After Shubrook you know I mentioned these are two good catchers in this game.
So it counts one and two after the error by Shuba, and that's two errors now on Conway.
Tony Woody at the blank.
There's 1/2, it's high.
2 balls, two strikes, only one out here in the top of the third inning.
At Swan and Mist, as they'll throw down, the catcher dropped it to secure the second out.
Here in the third, who's such a big out for hill?
This inning two hits, a walk, a hit by pitch, and kind of struggled with command just feels like a a big second out there.
So now Drew Wright the 5th batter in the lineup will make his way to the plate.
He flied to center field back in the second inning.
He's got two outs here in the third, with a runner at second base.
Change up this is outside.
It's want to know.
Here's the 10 fastball swung on and missed, and it's one in one.
And that.
11 get past the catcher Delozier's gonna head to the third and he'll get in there easily.
After the wild pitch.
I think for scuba tough to stop that one.
You look at this here.
Just yeah, tough to kind of swing your glove the other way to stop that.
So 2 ones account, runner at 3rd.
A base hit.
It's going to tie the ball game.
That's gonna be up high and now goes 31.
Conway doesn't have anybody warming in the bullpen right now.
As Hills now thrown 37 pitches here in the top of the third.
That's swung on and found back and it's full.
When's really starting to pick up here at the ballpark as it is blowing straight out now to center field?
You could tell from our cameras too big.
Pat in the back to those guys out there with the cameras in center field on the scaffolding.
Yeah, they.
They've had some long days.
Here's the three.
Two, it's swung on.
Popped up the right field, coming in his French, and he had played the wind a little bit makes the third out, but not until the Tigers of Bentonville put up three runs in the top of the third inning on two base hits.
They strand a runner.
We head to the bottom of the third inning, where Conway leads Bentonville.

Every year we recognize outstanding Arkansas student athletes who have made a mark in the classroom as well as on the field in the six a division we are spotlighting Ava Owen.
He is our student athlete of the year and look at that.
4.0 GPA is only a junior placed third base over at Cabot High School.
Future plans undecided also plays football on the quarterback on the football team, so Abe Owen is our student athlete of the Year in Class 6A and keep doing what you do.
Mr Owen back here in Benton, where Bentonville had a big top of the third inning.
Now it's Conley's turn here in the bottom of the third is they lead this thing four to three.
And that's swung on.
They put a charge into that down the right field side, but it goes found.
What a game so far you know, felt like Conway, the way they bounced on Bentonville in the bottom of the first inning.
There it felt like they were just gonna keep doing it and they just Hoskins credit.
He's kind of settled in a little bit so far and.
You know this is bentonville's identity too, just to keep chipping away and.
Get back in games.
Austin Rainey is at the plate by the way, and here's the old one as it misses long.
Kyle, I have to ask you, I you know I I spent a lot of years doing ball games with the Arkansas travelers with Phil Elson who does the Razorback baseball games.
And so I always ask my brother, his partner.
Do you call it a fair ball or a fair poll or a foul pole?
Yeah, the ultimate fill in Bubba conversation.
Well it's it started with Bill and I because he and I I take the Bubba sign and and because Phil he likes to call it a fair poll, here's the 1/2 misses low.
And so I always like to ask because of the fact that everybody's.
Well, I'm with you because I think I side with about 99% of people.
Yeah yeah, like majority of society to calling a foul pole.
Here's the two too and it swung on.
It's not going to be anywhere close to the foul poles.
It's going to the gap.
Now, over the 3:55 side, is Randy's gonna round first?
Head to 2nd.
He's in there easily.
The cable ratings impact on this game.
So far he pitched really well for Conway to begin this game and now he's got a stand up double.
And I tell you showed off some speed around first, didn't he?
He did.
So I lead off double by Austin Rainey is now Tucker.
Satterfield comes the plate.
He had that triple back in the first for Conway, an RBI triple and so now he'll be back at the plate with a runner at second base.
This is.
He'll show bunt.
It's called a ball.
Here's the one O pitch, curveball, and he kept it out there, and they're gonna call it a strike.
So the Bond's definitely on here.
Yeah, I mean pretty sure conways want to give him the third yeah and I think that is the that is the characteristic that we're used to seeing from Conway that Thompson home run is is not the Wampus Cats game.
This is more what they're used to doing it kind of manufacturing runs.
But I'm telling you if you're gonna hit a home run today, it's going to be the day the way that winds blowing out to right center field.
Here's the 11.
We'll miss low and it's two in one.
Well, you said the bolt was on and then he took it off, yeah?
Here's the two one and put the bun down.
It goes found and we've gotta.
Even counted 2 apiece.
We're in the bottom of the third inning, where Conway leads Bentonville, four to three.
And I was one.
OK, so they're gonna have a conversation about this because.
I think what Benville saying is that.
Satterfield touched the ball twice.
And I, I first I thought he did, but I I didn't want to say anything about it there.
Yeah, they're looking over so now they didn't see it so.
It was an awkward play regardless, and I'm with you.
I wasn't sure without seeing it again, exactly what happened there.
But I don't think he did as as awkward as it looks.
22's account.
As.
Which goes outside.
Here's the here's the replay of it.
Yeah, I think he just sort of lunges at it, but I don't think it came back and hit him again and and the reason why Rainey got the third was because he never touched it.
And he's gonna walk right there and so.
That'll head, that'll put him at first base.
Because originally we thought it was a foul tip off the bunt, and but after seeing that replay he never touched it and so that's why Rainey got to go to third base.
And now Conway's got runners on the corners.
And great job by the UMPS.
There they huddled for about 3 seconds.
So Cole Glover's, gonna be at the plane.
His or TDH after this mound visit and looks like see a pitching change here for Bentonville.
Yeah, they're gonna have a pitching change.
OK, well why they get the new picture in the ball game?
We're going to take a quick break when we come back.
We will have the new picture for Bentonville, as you're watching the Centennial Bank State baseball and Softball championships in Arkansas.

Let me take you for a ride on the baseline.
Well, the new pitcher for Bentonville is gonna be Hayden all.
And we're gonna go for my lefty to righty and the tiger bullpen.
And Kyle.
What's his season stats look like a junior 22 innings pitched.
Is this good?
27 strikeouts to three walks and the array of .926 pretty good.
Pretty good, so Hayden all will be the new pitcher for the Tigers after Zacharski.
Couldn't get out of the third inning and.
Showed some promise there as he was making his way through the the lineup in the second inning and then just wasn't his his day in the in the third.
So we've seen now both starting pitchers no longer in the ball game.
Yeah, it felt like it.
Kind of settled in just a little bit until the runner gets to 3rd here, but closes the book on him.
Two innings, four hits, four runs, one Walk, 3 strikeouts.
Hayden all will face the four hole hitter in cold Glover.
I shouldn't say closes the book.
He's responsible for the runner on 3rd exactly and Glover got hit by a pitch back in the first inning.
Here's a pop up over the right field side coming over his right.
He'll play it and looks like he'll make it trying to make a play at the plate.
That'll score a run for Conway.
So rainy comes in the score to make it five to three.
Now Conway leads it.
It feels like a big run across for Conway has been built kind of gotten back into this game.
You know, a good start there.
You know one pitch one out, but just a little bit too deep to try to have a play at home, so SAC flied to right field by globe.
Now, put Zach Schumer to the plate.
He struck out back in the first inning.
That's swung on, went down the third baseline.
It's gonna go all the way to the warning track that'll put runners at 2nd and 3rd for Conway.
And how about Conway's approach here?
They have swung in the first pitch of both these at bats against null.
And it's paid off for him with a SAC fly RBI and a double.
Now Will Thompson will be at the plate.
Thompson, who had the.
Home run back in the first inning.
Yeah, let that pitch a little bit up there in the zone.
Having conversation over 27 world champion.
So Thompson is the one that broke the game open in the first for Conway is.
And with runners at 2nd and 3rd as a curveball comes in for a strike.
That three run home run.
That wind is still blowing out the right field, right center almost.
01 comes with a curveball.
Again, Mrs. Heine outside.
It's now one in one.
One once found out of play feels like it's going to take double digits to win this game, doesn't it seems that way, doesn't it?
I mean, we said originally around seven runs to get this one done, but Conway's almost there and we're in the third inning.
Here's the one too swung on.
Lift it into right centerfield and a diving attempt was no good.
That'll score a run for Conway.
A base hit for Will Thompson.
He's 2 for two on the day.
With now four RBI.
And I don't blame Drew Wright for trying to make that diving attempt.
When you know Kiper Page is right there to back you up.
So now Connor Cunningham will be at the plate.
He struck out back in the first inning.
And Will Thompson's having a day, four RBI 2 for two on the day.
Boy outstretched arms there.
Yeah, I mean I. I just think that the smart play when you know you got your center fielder right there to back you up.
There's no harm in trying to lay out.
Either way, the runs are gonna score.
The pick move back to first is not successful as we talked about Cunningham batting 238 on the year.
Did strike out in the first.
As Conway's at the bottom half their line up with their 789 hitters.
Herbal herbal is gonna miss high.
Conway is a team in this game RJ's hitting six for 12.
It's not bad 50% it's not bad at all.
Five extra base hits in this game.
And curveball misses outside.
Here's the two.
Oh, that's swell on and found out of play.
Coming up in the 5th inning today we will have the Executive director of the Arkansas Activities Association.
Lance Taylor is going to join us.
He's got to be looking out the fans and you know, just put a great three days here in Benton.
Here's the two one swung on it's shallow hit into left field that will get down.
It's going to score a run for Conway.
The seventh base hit for the Wampus Cats, and they've hit that magic #7 there's just nothing Carter and I could do.
You gotta wait on that the way it was.
Kind of hanging up there.
No way to come in and make that play.
So now you've got runners at first and second after the single by Cunningham and Al Preston, prop will be at the plate.
Now that.
Money war president.
You know it's amazing.
Two RJ.
There are four players with RBI's on Conway, yeah.
And it's it's.
It's their entire order is produced.
Here's an off speed pitch that caught the outside corner and so on one.
Conway scored seven runs on seven hits so far in this game.
Here's the old one.
This is outside with curveball.
It's now one in one.
11 curveball in there called a strike.
There's only one out here in the third Bentonville scored three runs in the top of the third conways answered with three of their own.
Here's the one too swung on.
Has foul tip that now they're gonna say because runner was at first base and he didn't get it.
I thought he was saying it was deflected and so there's two outs now, but the runners do advance to 2nd and 3rd.
A big strike out there from north.
Yes, he has given up.
12 hits all season and he's allowed three so far in this album.
So now Sam Gregg's at the plane.
Curveball this is high boy, you starting to see Hayden Hall turnall excuse me throwing a lot of curveballs.
Here's the one O curveball in there, called the strike.
One in one's account.
It's up high.
Goes to two in one.
Ben Bill needs one more out to get out of the inning.
Here's the two.
One curveball.
Once again, I would pitch.
Why does it count two and two?
I'm telling you he he's not.
He's had a hard time locating that fastball, and so he's relied heavily here.
On the curveball.
Tutus on the way swarm on lift it out to left field.
That was a curveball as well.
He'll score one run play at the plate slide.
That's good.
Conway, our role here in the bottom of the third inning they put up a five spot.
But when you know what pitch is coming, it makes it a lot easier to hit it, and they were sitting on that curveball the whole way, weren't they?
Are you really were?
The two RBI single for Sam Greg.
And now they're back to the top of the line up with Logan French.
And if Logan French gets.
On base they will have batted around in the lineup.
Here's a fastball that catches the inside corner for a strike.
What are both these coaches thinking?
These are.
These are your best pitchers you have thrown out there so far in this game.
Yeah, no answer on either side.
Here's a foul tip back and quickly.
Oh, and two to Logan French know you're exactly right.
I mean and you know one thing you know, I guess in football you see in in Class 7 all these teams play each other at some point, right?
These two teams have not seen each other this year, and you know?
I'm not saying that that's an advantage or disadvantage, but a lot of times through the state tournament or even the regular season you would see you think you'd see it each other at least once says that's buried for a ball.
And so it also probably makes it a little difficult to to watch tape and figure out what we gotta do to make this work.
I imagine there were some calls to opposing coaches and and try to figure things out here, but.
Here it certainly makes for a more fun Championship game when they're facing each other for the first time.
Here's the one too pass ball swollen and missed, and that's going to retire the Wampus cats here in the third, but not until everybody in the lineup was able to take a piece of Hayden all, as Conway puts up, five runs there in the bottom of the third inning.
They lead at 9:00 to 3:00 and you're watching this Centennial Bank State baseball championships on Arkansas.

Good look at the.
Conway feigned there in the shade, and they've got to be smiling after that last half inning.
RJ yeah no.
I mean really bad at everybody in the lineup.
And now it's bentonville's turn to trying to answer.
As Jackson Hutchins is going to lead things off, followed by Rowan Christensen.
It's the 678 hitters.
And I mean, let's not let's not.
Thinking different, Hugh Hill had a rough outing when he first got in the ball game, and so you know, you guys think that he's either got a rebound or bentbill's gonna take advantage.
Yeah, and I I would imagine he will settle in here only because that is what he has done all season.
But you know, it's a familiar position for Bentonville.
We mentioned at the top of the broadcast all their comeback so far in the state tournament.
They were down seven, one in the top of the 7th, and their semifinal game.
There's a pop up in the right field and would be an easy play for the right one.
I should say they ended up winning, scored six runs, but.
Now, 66 feels like a big deficit, you know, even the way these two teams have been swinging the bat.
Now batting the catcher #17 on really shown the ability to slow down Conway.
That's right.
So now Roland Christensen is at the plate.
He popped out to the shortstop back over in the second inning line drive over shortstops hit this time and he'll go into the gap and he's gonna try to leg out a second as it got past the left fielder and he'll be in with a stand up double.
So now Carter Knight is going to be at the plate.
The left fielder he got on the bags.
Because of a walk back in the third inning.
You know?
We have only one primary partner, nine quarter 9.
As the first pitch in it's going to hit him on the elbow, and so Carter 9 now is going to be at first base with a hit by pitch.
And so he'll just continues RJ.
Have issues with command.
Now the 9 hole hitter Ethan Arnold's gonna be at the plate.
He's the third baseman for Bentonville.
He was hit by a pitch back in the third.
Yeah, so just kind of.
It breaks the wrong lane, gets a little bit of the jersey there.
That pressure on Bentonville here.
That's going to be up high.
Just feels like the way this game has been going.
You got to score with every opportunity.
One ball, no strikes.
There is a change up that caught the inside corner.
It's now one in one.
Hill since coming in last inning has thrown 44 pitches already.
There's a curveball that Miss Low, and it's now two in one.
Schubas had his work cut out for him back there.
He's been working hard.
This is a, you know, you're in the heat.
You're on the turf with the gear on.
2 ones up top.
Now three in one.
One out here in the.
Top of the fourth inning.
I'll be up high, he'll head down to first base and the bases are now loaded with one out in the fourth.
And now back to the top of the lineup is Luke Crumpler, who flied to right field back in the 1st and had a sack fly or a SAC bunt.
Scuse me.
In the third.
Crumpler leads the team and hits and runs who you want up.
It looks now like light and harden the head coach for Conway is gonna go out and talk to his pitcher.
They think you're facing the top of the order.
The most dangerous part of their lineup here was like Conway's got some movement in their bullpen.
As.
In the bullpen right now for Conway is John Freyaldenhoven.
So now Luke Crumpler is at the plate.
Hope for one with a sack.
As there's bases loaded from Bentonville.
Fastball right down Broadway.
With a batting stance for Crumpler RJ's got that kind of that balance stance the legs wide.
He's got that leg kick as the ball comes in the extension.
A nice squatting stance is there's no one and it swung on and lifted the right field for a base hit 1 runner score, two runs, all scores.
The ball goes to the corner.
They're going to send a third ball, gets away from the second baseman and Bentonville right back in this ball game within two R. Three RBI double by Luke Crumpler.
Or piece of swing.
He just kind of barely gets in there.
I'm with you kind of hung up.
It looked like that was gonna curve and go foul but just in there.
Leg up and gets a hold of it.
And watch for this land, just kind of barely grazes inside.
That is a big double for Bentonville and Luke Crumpler.
Three RBI's and now Kiper Page is gonna be at the plate.
He had a RBI single back in the third and then grounded out to shortstop in the 1st and looks like.
Hugh Hills Day is probably going to be done.
On characteristic outing for him and now.
What a game.
Ben goes.
Just keeps coming back right back in, never again talking.
Can you say think that six runs gonna be too much for team because just like that they've erased that deficit and and Hugh Hills Day is done and we're going to take a quick break and we'll get you all the numbers on the new picture Mr.
Fray out inhuman he's making his way in as you're watching this Centennial Bank State baseball championships in Arkansas.
PBS sports.
Well over 2000 Arkansas Rice farms.
96% of them are family owned and operated.
It's all about building communities.
They results we've been seeing have been very promising.
I grew up watching the farm knowing every detail about it.
If you take care of the soul, the soul take care of you.
It helps us to give back to the land and make sure that it's going to be there for future generations.
Every community has a story to tell if somebody will tell it, it'll be interesting.
You know, I think sports are really big to a lot of people, and because it's an important part of our fabric in our community and the one good thing about what I've seen is it's high quality production.
You know, you think of a small communities all over Arkansas.
It's a big deal that they can turn on the TV or DVR or whatever.
And I know they're going to get a quality product.
And so I think it just expands the the focus of what PBS is doing.
You know Arkansas PBS is doing a great job and and I think it's part of education.
Well, but they were going to bring in freyaldenhoven, but they decided to bring Austin Rainey who started the ball game.
They're gonna bring him back in the ball game and the reason that they can go about doing that is because they made him a position player instead of taking him out of the ball game altogether.
They made him a position player in the outfield and then said, you know what?
We're going to let you come back in the pitch.
Actually, Kyle, if you think about it, probably not.
Not not a bad move because it allows for him to not have to throw as many pitches you know in those two innings he didn't have the greatest of outings when he first.
I mean he got better, but now you're on the backside of the ball game and you can really let him throw some innings.
When we talked to Conway coach Layton Harden before the game and he.
Yeah, hinted to us that this may have been the plan.
I think you and I were surprised they went to Hill so early.
Because Radiant pitched pretty well, but he did hint to us that they may do this and and go back to him so kiper pads at the plate and he takes the curb off for a strike.
Pitched the first couple innings a strike out two walks, face 7 batters.
Pass ball and there for a called strike.
It's Owen two now.
They they were just giving raining a break.
That's all it was.
Listen, you know you just complaining now.
Well he had that he had that double so yeah he you know that's no break.
Here's the O2 that's swung on and fouled off.
Two lefties you're facing if you're Bentonville, but.
Two totally different frames.
Two totally different styles.
No balls, two strikes, and oftentimes we mentioned they'll they'll do Preston Proc in the middle.
All's gonna go over the head Shuba and so that'll advance.
Runner down to third base.
As Crumpler Crumpler will head to 3rd.
It makes things up.
It's lefty, righty, lefty, exactly.
Paid to the plate with one out 1/2 count a runner at 3rd.
Third ball of Pines two and two.
You know one thing, Coach Abbott said about Benville was that this was a team that no matter how many runs they get down by that they're just cool, calm and collective.
Is that balls up Hines three and two didn't.
Really, they don't miss a beat, they just keep rolling, asking me if you feel like you've caught lightning in a bottle the way you guys keep battling back and you just kind of.
Laughed it off and said you could call it Daddy.
Said you know, this seems this team's having fun right now.
I don't know.
Call time by Pete.
There's been some frustrating moments throughout the season for this Bentonville team, so to be playing this well when you want to be playing this well.
That's why you're having fun.
Full count with one out.
Here's the pitch.
It's up high and it'll be a walk.
So now you've got runners on the corners for Bentonville.
As your 3 hole hitter.
Stepping greyscale Briscoes Brisbois I I had a ticket you have to stare at.
I had to stare at it for just a minute.
Chris Kowitz and there's the pitch up high and go walk.
I said it right the first two times he came and how is that the play and really had a good day hit two RBI back in the third after getting a single and then struck out the 1st.
You think there's a green light or a really big green light for first thing?
Yeah, I think it's all gas.
No break at this point.
Curveball swore on lifting the deep center field.
Rojas is there to get it.
It'll score, run sack, fly.
And it's 9 to 7 now.
And that'll do the job there.
The deep part of the ballpark out there to the center and.
And for four runs in this inning for Chris Kowitz, I mean that's his third RBI of the day.
And so now that brings up Tony Woody, the four hole hitter.
Who walked back in the second inning, then struck out in the third?
That was a curveball he swung on and missed.
Seven runs by Bentonville in the last two innings scored three in the third, now 4 here in the 4th.
Runner goes balls in the dirt and.
Easily.
Will the runner get into second base?
Not being paid.
One ball, one strike out to Woody.
I used to work hard back there sugar.
Couple tough throws down at first but.
What's up top?
Out two in one.
Yeah, I just think he's.
Played pretty well back there, no, he's.
He saw he's had to work with two pitchers, and they both have had their moments.
Here's to do.
1 curveball swung on out to shore back end.
He'll make a long throw, pulls him up the line.
He got him out.
Well, I was a great play by the 1st baseman for Conway.
Will Thompson.
It pulled him off the bag.
He was able to get it then come back and make A tag and get the third out.
And that's going to be all the damage that Bentonville has in the top of the fourth inning.
They score four runs there in the top of the fourth inning to bring the count to 9 to 7 Conway, and you're watching the Centennial Bank State Baseball championships in Arkansas.

The Arkansas PBS engage app to get all the numbers during the live game and the numbers continue to pile up in this one, but that they're battling back seven runs in the last two innings and 97 games and only four hits.
Seven runs on four hits.
Conways had nine runs on eight hits so far in this one and so it's it's been a back and forth affair that is for sure.
New picture here for Bentonville.
Bryce Parlin 45 innings pitched this season.
He started 11 games and this will be the first time he's come in in the middle of a game.
Would you throw everything you have in this scenario?
Don't Georgia?
Oh yeah, no, I mean you throw starters, you throw closers you I mean.
If you could throw your, you're going to be throwing in a state championship game if needed, and so yeah, we've seen pitchers, though on both sides kind of struggle with command today in Parlin 34 walks in 45 innings.
So now Austin Rainey is going to come to the plate for Conway.
He doubled back in the third inning to center field and.
Grounded out to short back in the 1st and so now he'll be up here in the fourth Portland, but the playoff mustache?
Yeah, got that.
That's the rally stash.
First pitch is low and outside.
You know there's only been 2 errors in this ball game, both committed by Conway, and they were throwing errors by the catchers that one little chin music up top tyranny.
It's been it's been a well played game and I think we've seen pitchers struggle with some command at times, but really we've just seen some good hitting.
Ends up top.
Makes it three now.
To your point, it's not a game where you feel like errors have decided this by any stretch.
That was a fast ball that was.
In their first strike and right, he's got a count of three in one.
3 Ones found out of play now full on deck.
Tucker Satterfield and it'll be cold Glover Conway in there 234 hitters right now so I know Randy's used to doing this pitching well and he's one of their better hitters.
That's a high chopper over the pitchers mound to be a tough play.
They make the throw and they would get him out six.
Three on the put out the boy.
You gotta make a long run for your shortstop and then a a close throw and that could be that.
Could spelled a lot of danger.
Yeah, just kind of comes out the bottom end of the bat there, we're hustling as much as he could down the first baseline.
He is given everything in this game from the mound from the base paths.
An excellent play but at short, Satterfield said the plane had the triple back in the first inning.
Miss is outside wanna know?
He's 2 for two on the day.
That's a fastball that caught the outside corner to even count at one apiece.
Long arm found off.
I'm just so impressed with Conway's approach at the plate.
I mean this is a sophomore.
And they're smart.
They take a lot of pitches.
They foul off pitches.
Pitches Lawrence down two and two.
Tucker Satterfield at the plane fastball that's a high one that's fouled off of him.
Keeps it two and two.
Conway is a teams hitting eight for 17 in this game.
But you gotta give it up to Bentonville for the fact that.
I mean, it's court seven runs on four hits.
Yeah, they're four for 13 and they're right in this game.
Here's the two two liner up the 2nd.
43 on the put out.
Yeah, both teams have played the turf well, haven't they?
I really have.
Really have.
Not been that many bad hops like we saw in the two a game I mean.
Everything's played pretty much true to form.
So now that brings up Cole Glover.
The DH batting in the borehole.
Change up for the miss outside.
It's one and on.
One house chopped found.
11 out to short.
And just like that, then go there's there's Connolly out 123.
No damage done and now the Tigers are gonna be headed back to the plane at the top of the fifth inning.
You're watching this Centennial Bank State Baseball championships on Arkansas.

It is a massive undertaking and tremendous job by this PBS crew.
No doing baseball now for the second year and add something every year, you know.
They during the basketball finals, you know when you watch the national broadcast and you see that that camera that has the the ever distorted background, it kind of focuses on one person.
High definition of those things for basketball.
I was like wow, look at it PBS step in the game off.
As long as it's not on you and I yeah, no, I don't.
I don't need the distorted look camera on me.
I'm good.
No the less high def.
The better you or not yes, drew rides at the plate as he'll take a ball low starts one and oh.
I saw I remember Bobby and I were actually sitting around doing the basketball finals and I I kept watching my monitor this.
It was kind of like a 3D camera.
I was like, wow, that's awesome.
Is the one one is up.
You know?
Drew, right at the plate.
Jackson Hutchins is 6th, and Rowan Christiansen is number 7 hole hitters for this one.
As the one one is in the dirt, it's now two in one.
So Randy remains out there if you're just joining us.
He started this game.
Hugh Hill came in and replaced him after a couple innings, and Rainey has he was a position player so he can come back into the mound there.
Adds 2 two.
Kind of an only in high school baseball kind of thing.
Yeah, yeah, well, you know.
Sometimes death is an issue at some schools and you can't just do it for one classification.
Go do it for all.
Here's the 22 curveball swung off right into the Conway dugout.
Did you play baseball in high school?
I did, did you?
We just not as well as you.
Well, let me guess you were.
You were probably an outfielder.
I did play outfield.
I got up with the high stuff.
There came in with the heat.
That pitched in Little League, yeah?
Then it got to the point where if you're gonna continue pitching, you've got a really ponent on it.
Yeah, lessons and well I I avoided the mounted on cost like I was not that was not where I felt comfortable.
I was not good in that area and.
At the plate now, as Jackson Hutchins is first pitch is low called a ball.
I'll never forget I was playing.
We were playing a tournament over Kilgore College.
My senior year of high school and we ran out of.
We ran out of pitch.
We were having a bad day.
It's bad day.
One of those on the way.
It's swung on, fouled off.
Coach yells Hawk needs you for the mound.
No, you don't.
He ran.
And no, you do not, and.
So I went out there and I very first one I threw doing homework and then got that one out of the system.
It's one one's a curveball called the strike.
Next pitch gets up there 4 hole hitter.
Double next Guy home run finally coach said, Yep, we're gonna put you out there again.
Was it?
Was it 15 warm when you entered the game?
It was bad.
It was.
I think we were down 10 nothing and we were in a tournament so we trying to save some arms as that'll be put out.
432 outs.
Now here in the inning.
No.
I mean like he was one of those early preseason or you know early season tournaments trying to save some arm sees who can get out there and throw in there.
They knew I had no business being out there.
Yeah, that was my only time that I. I was ever on the mound.
Let's go.
Don't ever wanna go there again as Roland Christensen's at the plane had a double over the left field back in the 4th.
The one position I would never plays catcher.
I mean I think almost in all sports, that's the one position I would just would not want to do.
You know the catcher's always the guy that he's probably the baddest dude on the team because he's got to strap the gear on.
He goes to.
He literally goes to war every time he gets in the ball game, yes?
Here's the one O.
You you always feared like if you were you didn't ever mess with the catcher or the 1st baseman 100%.
Those were the two people that you never messed with on the baseball team.
Too old pitch Mrs inside.
You were pitching and you didn't have a choice.
Yeah, yes.
Here's the three all offering.
It's up high and he'll walk.
So now that brings up Carter and I, the left fielder to the plane nine has been on the base path twice today got on because of a walk back in the third.
Then he was hit by a pitch in the 4th and he scored both times.
He's been on the backs.
First pitch is in there.
Well, no, we missed inside called the ball.
3.
Here's the one, oh, pitch up high.
His accounts too now.
And not a bad idea.
I think here from from sugar you're so close to getting out of this inning.
And you issue a two out walk and.
And relax, focus and the focus on the batter.
In the top of the fifth inning, is Conway leads Bentonville 9 to 7.
And that ones in there called the strike.
2 ones account with two outs here in the 5th.
That swung on.
I came with a nice offspeed pitch.
That time he just kind of pulled the string in that one and two straight strikes after.
I think it was four straight balls thrown by Rainey.
2 balls, two strikes, runner goes curveball swan out to short.
He's able to love it thanks to throw over to 1st.
Pulls it off the bag runners going to the third.
Now the throw full time him out there to get the third out.
So it was a throwing error to get knile on the bags with the E6 on that, but then.
If you're scoring at home, they go 3/5 on the put out to get the third out.
Throw there from tops at across.
Another look here.
Yeah, that's keeping a head on the swivel.
We head to the bottom of the fifth inning 9 to 7 Conway leads it as you're watching the Centennial Bank State baseball championships in Arkansas.

I think it's important for Arkansas PBS to have sports because it provides sports on a greater platform to the entire community, and it also gives people in various other communities an opportunity to see other schools and other athletes and to have a greater appreciation for not just their own community, but the sports that are available across the state of Arkansas.
There are so many lessons that sports provides and it's one of the reasons why it's so important to the next generation.

Back here in Benton, as Conway leads Bentonville 9 to 7 in the six a title game.
I'm RJ hawk with Kyle Dougall, now joined by the executive director of the Arkansas Activities Association, Lance Taylor and Lance, well, you couldn't ask for better weather for this one.
No, it's great.
It's perfect out here and what a great crowd from a lot of people here from Bentonville, which is long ways.
And of course, Conway has just packed this thing out.
It's it's a great atmosphere for high school.
Yeah, great game so far.
Yes, a lot of runs.
I know that a lot of hits.
Zach Schuba is at the plate for Conway to lead things off, and they'll pop one up right side and.
It's looks like the first baseman's gonna take this one all by himself, Woody and he does and that's the first out here in the fifth.
Well, I want to talk to you a little bit about this Lance.
You know this is the second year now that we've had baseball, softball, and soccer all here in Benton.
Seems like folks kind of like this.

We start back up with this at 10:00 o'clock and then it's just a great atmosphere to be able to walk.
And what is it just 75 yards to the.
Yes, and it's just.
It's a.
It's a great great situation, especially for fans in the teams.
Will Thompson, the first baseman at the play now for Conway.
There are great facilities all over the state, but I think what Benton is built here is a model for all of them.
Yes, I agree, and and all like this compound here.
You know, I agree with you.
It's just a great atmosphere, especially for the kids.
I think they enjoy this so the one one pitch is swung on.
This one too.
Let me ask you this, you know this is the first full year after.
COVID that we've got all the sports back.
We got football in.
We got basketball in from the AAA's perspective.
As far as attendance and getting everybody kind of back in the groove of doing things.
Pretty happy with how the year went.
Yes, yes we are and I think a lot of people are just glad to be out again and and and and enjoy.
Especially high school sports.
But we were very pleased.
We've had great turnouts at all of our events, so let me ask you this.
What's what's the future for the spring sports?
I mean, you plan on keeping it here or move it around, or what's the plan?
You know, that's a board decision, you know?
Pools or or different sizes can bid on that call, and so you know that's it's just who's interested and so if people are interested, you know they can be it.
And then that's where we go.
But it's just such a great location here Central Arkansas because you know it doesn't matter where you come.
You know we had Woodlawn this morning and it's it's just it's easy for everybody to get to centrally located ball fight 30.
Yeah, there's a walk to Will Thompson so head down to first base.
And now Conor Cunningham's going to come to the plate after getting a single.
In the third got an RBI and then struck out in the first inning.
Lance, you know I I sit here and we we see all these championships and and I we we love on how all the the crowd show up.
The one thing that we we were asked about earlier is there's a bunch of Tempe that's found off is you know, Woodlawn.
They go.
Hey we played at 10:00 o'clock for two years in a row but it's not so much you guys going well, we're gonna pick on Woodlawn.
You guys have to manage the graduations and things like that.
Yes and and teams that have double teams just like Bentonville.
Playing now.
They're going to play tomorrow.
Took tonight.
But didn't they also play Saturday because of grades of people, different graduations, so?
Used to be yeah as the it's in there for a strike to make it to one too.
Used to there be a conflict and kids would have to choose and and that was just it's it's.
I mean they gone to school for 12 years.
They need to graduate and he understood that.
But also they're in the state championship games and they want to play and so now be it with three days they're able.
We were able to work around that.
I think we had 16 conflicts with teams with graduation and then we had seven schools that were doubled up.
So you got you got to get them on the same day so they don't have to come back and forth.
A work around their graduations and we were able to do it here.
Now two years in a row.
You know what's funny is that?
I think a lot of times people just say.
Hey trip the the guys with the triple layer just in there just going well we wanna watch the six eight game at at at 4:00 o'clock you know but there's really a a formula for everything that goes on.
Is this one found off and right now Connor Cunningham battling his plate organized chaos probably yes and you know you're trying to.
You want them to be involved in many activities they can.
We have this conflict all the time all year long with with our activities.
Plus with our athletics so you want a kid to be in a band but also be a play football.
So I mean you, there's a lot of conflicts but we try to work through because we.
I mean, our job is participation and so that's what we try to do.
One ball 2 strikes to Connor Cunningham.
Well, it's so perfect for fans who haven't made the trip to the the Benton Athletics complex.
You don't have to walk 6 feet to get to the softball diamond right over here.
And I've already saw seeing people coming in right now for tonight.
Already college already.
They're coming in quick for that too.
Some of these Bentonville fans may have like a bring a second blanket and put it over there.
Yes, and I hope there's some people out there listening and want to come tomorrow and Saturday.
We should have great games and.
Whoa, nice diving plane flipped a second back over to 1st to him.
They don't get him at first, but they get the out at 2nd.
That was a great diving stop by the shortstop Jackson Hutchins, as he was able to go back behind the back and just flip it to the second baseman.
So now there's two outs here in the 5th inning as coming to the play will be pressed in Prague.
Wanna play here?
Full extension and.
A runner would have made it to 30, but had runners at the corners there.
I think it would have scored cause yeah, the center field are coming in.
But yeah, what a play Lance I would imagine right now you guys even though you've got championships going on here, you're probably full.
Go on getting ready for football season because it'll be right.
Well, I guess is there's any.
There's you've got soccer, but outside of that you're done with championships after that, right?
Except we haven't done this and I guess two years we're going to bring back All Stars this summer.
Oh, really, yeah.
So yeah.
So we'll be back at UCLA this summer.
Very excited about that and getting the kids, you know.
And the All Star games.
How great is that going to be?
I'm sure you further so many people who wanted to see that again yes, and you know.
And and you know, the kids haven't been able to do it the last two years, so we're excited about getting that going again.
Call the ball outside.
We'll see.
Now you're set.
You're bringing things back you're gonna have people going when you gonna bring it bring back the overall I mean everybody's gonna start asking for that again.
No, but the the All Star game is, you know.
I remember a couple of years ago talking to a young man that that had since graduated and he still has his plaque and and things from the All Star game and the the write up in the paper and he still got all that stuff so that that is a special moment for for athletes to go and do that.
I think it's neat, probably too Lance.
Here's the three one that's hammered into right center field that'll get down for a base hit.
Rounding second is Cunningham.
They're going to try to send him home and he'll go into score.
Said RBI double for Preston.
Brock as coming in to score was Connor Cunningham and now Conway.
Has put a 10 spot on the board.
Ohh we figured this game would take double digits and.
Conway hits it, press the Proctor was over 2 in this game RJ about the only guy in the Conway lineup would yet to do anything.
Yet coming through in the clutch there.
So now Sam, Greg, the second baseman, comes to the plate.
He had a two RBI single back in the third inning and then in the second grounded out to shortstop, and so he'll be at the plate as the 9 hole hitter here in the bottom of the fifth inning is Conway leaves at 6:50 with a runner at second base and two out starting to say Lance.
I just think that the All Star games are neat because you see kids going to college earlier and earlier.
Earlier so the kids who participate in the All Star events, I mean those who are odds are that's the end of their athletic careers.
You know, that's sort of makes it special, right?
Yes, and they're excited to be there.
You know, exactly right.
They're they're excited to represent their teammates and their school and their community, and they just they love the atmosphere.
2O's account with two outs here on the bottom of the fifth inning.
Well I well I have to ask you Lance, but you know before we let you go I, you know I've been doing things with the AAA now for five years and Centennial Bank you, you decided to take my broadcast partner away.
I guess.
I guess that I was doing so well that that bringing in talent in and and next thing I know I wake up one day and Bobby's calls me and says can't do the games with you 'cause I'm gonna be working with the AAA.
What's been like bringing Bobby Swofford on great great you know Derek's leaving this yeah and he's got bigger.
Wish to go, you know to tackle but Bobby is doing an excellent job so far and we and and and Derek helped us get Bobby and he thought he would be a great fit for us.
And that's the only thing I told Derek when he when he came and told me so.
I said OK, you're your job now is go find somebody better than you and I think he's done a good job but again we we interviewed some great people and Bobby you know checked all the marks for us so we think he's going to do it.
Excellent job.
Well you know Bobby and I went to college together.
And and I'm gonna miss him here on the broadcast.
I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm gonna miss him.
So now I've gotta go recruit somebody.
I think Kyle's gonna be my my he may end up being the one that I recruit for.
Bobby as the pitch is outside that's gonna be a walk.
So now Conway's got runners on the corners and 1st and 3rd and now Logan French comes back at the top of the lineup.
To hit 4 Conway.
But now Bobby Bobby will be good.
Now he's gonna be in charge of all communications and and PR and things of that nature.
With AAA correct?
That is correct.
He he.
He's already doing a good job and getting the information out, you know.
And of course all the social media he's doing all that for us RJ.
And and he's just doing a good job already.
So we we, we expect great things from Bobby and and I and I want to while we're here.
Bitten administration yeah yeah and their athletic director and all their coaches.
If you walk around and see all these volunteers they're doing an excellent job and I want to make sure I I remember them because we appreciate all their all their work because this just doesn't happen.
OK you still rolling here and like we do and you just they do they do a great job so I want to thank them.
We appreciate you and everything you do for us.
We got to take a break because we got a new picture in the in the ball game from Bentonville and we will talk to you soon.
Have a great weekend.
Alright thank you.
He is Lance Taylor.
Take a break when we come back with the new picture from Bentonville, you're watching the Centennial Bank State Baseball championships in Arkansas.
PBS sports.
Centennial Bank is committed to you since our founding in 1999.
We've become one of the nation's most trusted banks by remembering that you come first.
By empowering our communities to reach their highest potential.
Through our dedication to local charities education.
And exceptional service.
Because we are proud to call Arkansas Home Banking with you in mind.
Centennial Bank, member FDIC.
We're going.
Well, the new picture and the ball game four Bentonville is gonna be Ethan Arnold and Collie third pitcher now for Bentonville, and the ball game and give us his stat line.
Yeah, the third baseman who makes the move over to the mound here.
20.2 innings pitch this season.
He's played in 12 games.
He's two in one.
He's got a save 15 hits in those twenty innings.
Pitch six walks, 15 strikeouts and another guy with an ERA under one.
So he'll come in now for.
Benville they don't.
Suddenly here we are late innings.
What a game.
RJ yeah.
Both teams have just shown the ability to, you know, Bentonville, keep battling back in this one and Conway keeps pulling ahead and you want a fun game.
So far no one Oliver is gonna be the new third baseman for Bentonville.
And so you've got Arnold on the mound.
Oliver at third base.
With two outs here in the bottom of the fifth, then Conway leads at 6:50.
They put up one run here in the inning, but they've got two base runners on the corners.
And Logan, French the leadoff man in their lineup.
He's at the plate.
French is got a double back in the first thing, but he struck out twice since then.
And he's gonna be hit this time and that's gonna load the bases.
And so now Austin Rainey.
He'll be at the plate.
And the big double back in the third inning.
He's grounded out to shortstop twice before that.
The base is loaded with radiant plate.
Fastball misses outside.
Good having Lance Taylor from the AAA up talking everything AAA with us and he's right a great job there.
The hosting by Benton.
Here's the 10 that's up high two and oh.
Came in during a high stress inning.
We've had very few low stress happenings in this one.
Always looking back through my scorebook.
A lot of batters that have that have come through this ball game today as that one goes up high.
It's now ferrino.
There's been a lot of patterns of for both teams.
It's not just been Conway or Bentonville, it's been a lot of folks, yeah.
Conway is 2 batters away from batting around.
Well, it says it all.
This is your 4th pitcher for Bentonville in the 5th inning.
Here's the three.
Ohh, that's called a strike.
It's now three in one.
Ethan Arnold on the mound for Bentonville.
Here's the fastball it's swung on.
It's now full at three AM 2.
You know, really, if you're Ethan Arnold.
Get it.
Get the get the ball and play and get the final out and get out of the inning.
Or get the strike out.
I mean either way.
Here's the three two swung on, found out of play.
Here's the three two pitch swung on.
Looking at the center field right at the center.
Fielder paint and that's going to do it for the bottom of the fifth inning.
But not until Conway scores one run in the 5th to make it 6:50 over Bentonville.
We'll head to the top of the sixth inning when we come back.

We're loving it, loving this game so far.
RJ yeah, if you like offense, this is the game for you because.
Conway has Tim runs off nine hits with two errors.
Beth Bill has seven runs off five hits, no errors, so it's been a it's been a pretty.
Eventful ball games in a lot of pitchers and now bentonville's gonna be sending their 912 hitters to the lineup as it's going to be Ethan Arnold, Luke Crumpler and Kipper Pate.
It's already had the chance to help himself out there a little bit.
But he got a good piece of hitting there.
You know, just kind of hung up a little bit to the center fielder, but.
So rainy is first pitch was in the Dirks one, and own.
So for Bentonville, you've got 6 outs to work with down 3, and that's a nice fastball in there called the strike.
And as we've mentioned a couple times in the broadcast, they have been in this position throughout the state tournament.
One in one's account.
Her ball misses outside and it's now two in one.
They scored all seven runs in one inning against North Little Rock.
They were down to Catholic.
They were down 31 to start the 7th.
In the semifinal game against harbor.
There's the two one pitch that Swan popped up out of play.
Just feels like every inning you know you're facing such pressure.
2 balls, two strikes.
Here's the pitch.
Aspal misses inside.
It's now three and two.
Way too offering swung on.
Lift it out to the center field.
There to reel it in for Conway was Rojas, and so that's the first down here in the 6th.
So now Crumpler the leadoff man is going to be at the top of the lineup and.
So far on the day he's had a base hit back in the 4th and it was actually a three RBI double, a sack flying the 3rd and then flying to right field in the 1st.
It was the first pitch to him, is it?
Mrs. Lowe and that'll bring the count to one and oh.
I would imagine the hope here.
For Conway's ready can finish this one off.
And that one popped up out to center field.
Pretty easy catch for Rojas, and he's recorded both out here in the 6th, right?
He's at 75 pitches.
You've got that 110 limit, so he is he is in position to do so.
So now Kyper page is that plane.
And Peyton had a single back in the third inning, did get an RBI out of it and walked in the 4th.
Grounded out to the shortstop back in the first inning.
And he'll look at a strike right down the heart of the plate.
Visit back it's Owen one with two outs here at the top of the sixth inning.
That one hits the turf and it's one in one.
Don't forget there's gonna be softball action coming up later this evening.
We'll get you all the info coming up here in a minute about who's playing over at the Benton Softball complex.
Here's the 11.
That's up high and bring the count to two in one.
You watch much softball Cal.
As far as on TV or.
Local.
Watch more this season.
Yeah, yeah, we've paid a lot of attention to college softball.
Here's the two one and that's swung on.
Lifted out the center field.
They're giving Rojas a lot of work here in this inning, and he recorded all three outs, and that's going to do it for Bentonville.
The top of the sixth.
We head to the bottom of the sixth inning.
Conway leads at 6:50.

Matt Mason bill.
Great job getting those DVD's out to folks.
You know, usually I.
Whenever I make my way in the ballpark, I'll say hi to all the PBS folks and I was on the phone today and so I didn't really get to do that.
But one.
I have not seen matter Mason yet and they've they've been Incognito on this trip.
You know where they want?
You're right, they do a great job.
Yeah, all the folks Arkansas PBS folks, Matt Mason.
They are all great folks and so we we really enjoyed caring these games and bring everybody in the state.
And suddenly here for Conway chance to add to a three run lead.
Tucker Satterfield's at the plate is, let's see, a fastball go by for ball one.
Safe to say, I think how big any insurance would be here.
Oh yes, that's given is the one.
Oh pitch is in fair territory.
Boy doll, now he's going to call it a foul ball.
Now, I I'll, I'll tell you this, Bobby.
Alright now Bobby Kyle.
There was a the first baseman for Bentonville, Tony Woody.
He was.
He was pleading that.
It was a Fallon and he didn't make a call till right at the very end.
I don't know if we got a good shot of that with the cameras, but boy, that was extremely close.
First base coach for Conway.
He was saying it was fair.
First baseman said it was found, then the ultimate decision.
The umpire said it was found.
Well, you're right that he was pleading his case from.
I mean he doesn't and immediately got up and was playing this case.
There's 11.
Yeah, it's gonna be called strike at the knees.
See if this is a replay.
I don't know if we're gonna be able to get that, maybe no, and this one popped up into left center field and it'll be recorded and out.
I don't know if we're going to be able to see that either way.
The outer is recorded by Satterfield, now cold Glovers at the play.
How many designated hitter #15 full letter.
Glover on the day.
Got hit by a pitch back in the first, had a sack fly.
In the third and then grounded out to the shortstop in the 4th inning.
And he'll get hit again.
So Glovers.
Going to go to first base.
And.
He'll be at 1st and that the plane will be scuba.
Well, that's one of those ways to stay in the batters box and take it, because he knew that was coming right at.
And it looks like they're going to have a courtesy runner for Glover.
And running for Conway is going to be like Satterfield running at first base.
And now Zach Schuba is at the plate.
And that one's giving a ride to ride field, right field or drew rides right there to get it for the second out of the ball game or the.
16 excuse me.
So now will Thompson's up.
Thompson has walked today.
He home run in here that three RBI home run back in the 1st and then had a single in the 30s had a heck of a day.
Now that 6 hole.
It felt like after that first inning, we may see a couple of those real deep balls.
Yeah, the way the wind is going and that was a home run hack right?
There has came up empty.
The winds kind of died down a little bit.
Still blowing out, but yeah, what a day.
He's responsible for four RBI in this game, yeah?
Here's the old one, and that's way outside and high.
Discount one in one.
11's on the way, swung on, lift it out to shallow left field.
He's gonna have to get on and he does.
That was quarter nine.
That'll do it.
Pour the bottom of the sixth inning so Conway doesn't score.
Benfield didn't score in the sixth, neither one of them.
Do we head to the 7th where Bentonville they've got to get three runs if they want to keep their hopes of winning A state championship game?

And.
These have been the highlights of.
The ball game.
Today there's been.
There's been a ton of work to buy the center fielder today.
Rojas he is.
Yeah, last inning look at him.
He's out there like OK I I did everything last inning let somebody else do it.
Can we get some Gatorade out here huh?
Yeah and the score book in the last inning.
8886 circles around it?
Benton Belt needs.
Laney three runs basically to keep their title hopes alive and.
Gryska Wiz is at the plate right now.
He's got no one count on him and.
Curveball swamis he's owing too now, and this is better if you're bad bill.
This is who you want up to bat here.
Try to.
Set the table here, get on base.
Put somebody informed to run for him, but.
He had a single back in the third inning, two RBI singles.
He's gonna strike out with a fastball on the outside corner.
I wanna pitch painting the outside.
How big is that the the biggest man in the lineup?
The biggest threat you strike him out?
So now you've got Tony Woody at the plate.
Woody is over three on the day, or oh for two with a walk on the day.
By painting the outside Juba brings it in.
Yeah, he's not sure about it.
He may have gotten a call there.
But when you're right, what a sigh of relief when you get him out?
No.
First pitch to him is a curveball swung on, lifted out to right field, and that's gonna drop in for a base hit.
Boy right Fielder, Drew Wright.
Excuse me, Logan French was playing deep in the left field, right field, excuse me.
And that he had a long run to go.
Yeah, that old prevent defense at this point in the game.
So it's a base hit for Woody.
And now that brings up Drew Wright, who's over three on the day with a strikeout back in the 5th inning.
Pitch is swung on, lifted high in the center field.
Rojas gonna settle under as the second out.
Well, Conway fans are starting to feel it as they stand up.
If there's one out and they're going to be state champions.
And the plane will be Jackson Hutchins.
Target amazing bettsville 345 hitters combined.
Don't have a hit, yeah?
Last appearance for Conway.
Was 2008 a state championship game?
Conway is two of seven in title games, all time.
Last one in 2011 they could taste it, their fans standing up behind home plate.
Two outs here in the 7th.
As Jackson Hutchins at the Blake walked back in the second, he's over, too.
First pitch is inside.
Want to know you?
Imagine the butterflies going through rainy right now.
You know you were this close.
Either there's butterflies or he's just tired because he's.
I wouldn't blame him for either one.
Yeah, here's the one.
Oh yeah, that's a strike to 21.
He did it rain, he's done it all today.
I mean, he's played in the field.
He's pitched twice.
Done a great job at the plane.
There's two outs here in the 7th.
On our first base for Bentonville.
Curveball, and they're called a strike.
Conway's one strike away.
Conway holds on is really the MVP.
Is Thompson the MVP with the home run and I I think that you can give it to him about three people.
One ball 2 strikes.
Up high it's two and two.
Bentonville was down to its last strike in the semifinal game.
They've they've been here, but.
They need three runs.
22's on the way, swung on out to 2nd, it's glove.
He throws.
It's over Conley.
There will Class 6A state champions for the first time since 2011.
The dog pilot sues in front of the pitchers mound.
And the Wampus cats.
When it 6:50.
Long faces for Bentonville.
They've had their ups and downs this season.
Still a tremendous season to celebrate.
And there was no better scene in sports than the dogpile.
Right over the pitchers mound and this is well earned for Conway.
This was no perfect game by any stretch.
I had to battle a really tough Bentonville lineup now.
You know?
And look, Bentonville has nothing to hang their heads.
I mean they put up seven runs.
Yes, I mean, think about this.
Normally in a baseball game, if you score seven runs, odds are pretty good.
You're probably going to win the game.
You know, we knew both these teams they they put up a lot of runs throughout the year.
You know, just Conway was able to get the big hit.
Conway had nine hits in this whole thing.
For Conway this is not really how they won game.
They won with pitching and defense.
They had not allowed to run in the state tournament prior to this to put up 10 in this game.
Well earned state championship for the wamps caps.
When we come back we will have the trophy presentation of the Conway Wampus Cats as they win it.
The Class 68 title 6:50 over Bentonville.

But, you know, Bill didn't win a baseball championship.
They might be able to get it done in softball, and your thoughts on this game so you know, throughout this well, just what a fun game to watch.
I mean, just great offense.
And you know, this game started off.
Fireworks, yeah, that could be the only home run we see over the next few days, but it's it's tough sometimes to get it out of the ballpark like this, and you know, it's just there's nothing beats seeing the scene.
If you see someone from Conway through their hat as far as they could in the air, just you know the release of a celebration there and you see him pose for pictures here.
You mentioned it for Conway.
It's a it is a baseball town and this is a this is a big big thing for that Wampus Cat program.
And hey congratulations to coach Layton Hardin only a second season.

Major props to Bentonville and what they did to get to this point and.
And really, to both these teams, because these two weren't really the best two teams in Class six.
They all year.
That's a great point, and that's what we brought up at the beginning of the of the game is.
I'm not sure either team really expected to be here, cause both these teams sort of had their Jekyll and Hyde moments.
That's baseball, right?
Sort of.
Put it together at the right time.
Get hot at the right time and you know Conway has just pitched so well in the state tournament.
Hit well today as a well played game by both teams and the congratulations, well earned championship for the Wampus Cat.
It was a definitely a well earned championship and.
That's gonna wrap things up from baseball today.
