And welcome to War Memorial Stadium for the final game of championship weekend.
It's a three day state championship game between the Charleston Tigers and the Boonville Bearcats.
And it is going to be a dandy of a game.
The rain still coming down a little bit.
A little bit of mist coming down over war Memorial Stadium as we get ready to start this three day state championship game.
I'm R.J. Hawke, along with Bobby Swofford for today's game.
Madison Fitzpatrick's down on the sideline for all the action and Bobby Boy, if you think about rivalries in the state, you've got Benton and Bryant, the both the Texarkana schools.
But when you look at the northern part of the state, this is one of the biggest when you go to the Fort Smith River Valley, you automatically think, okay, who are the big time football programs?
Well, you automatically get to start with Charleston and Boonville, eight combined state championship appearances, nine titles.
We'll talk about the tradition, rich programs that they have.
But 16 miles separate these two teams.
There's a lot of familiarity, but mainly more importantly, there's a lot of familiar with their programs playing in the stadium and they're used to win a championship.
Both these teams are tradition rich when it comes to state championships and really two contrasting teams when it comes to these offenses.
You've got one team in Boonville who just really likes to pound it.
You, Charles, on the other hand, they like to throw it around a little bit.
Oh, if you looked at Boonville and you didn't know what year it was, you might think it was the 1950s, because they're going to run the flex bone after they've run the football 27 times all season.
They're not going to wow you with misdirection.
They are going to run right at you.
If you don't stop the fullback back, they're going to run the full back at you every time.
So they got to find a way to stop the running game for Boonville.
But obviously that's easier said than done.
Well, let's look at how both these teams got here.
We'll first start with those Boonville, Bearcats and interesting match ups along the way.
You know, they took on a Junction City team that traditionally is used to being at the state championship game.
They got through Junction City, then they moved on to smack over, got to go up there and that smack over game.
Bobby That was a big game.
That was the game when they really put everybody on notice because they had to go on the road to smack over and hang 60 on the buckaroos getting then get back on the bus the next week to go to Osceola, a team they played in the 2018 state championship game.
They found a way to obviously win that football game.
And then last week they had a slugfest with MELBER and they just had to grind it out.
The Bearcats were undefeated.
A lot of teams, a lot of people thought that that was going to be Millburn here in the finals, and Boonville got the better of it because of the ground game in the second half.
Yeah, that last week's game between Boonville and Malvern was one of the classics in the playoffs throughout this year, all the other side with the Charleston Tigers, they had Gordon in that first round and then got through that one pretty easily, moved on.
Bobby And that Center Point game was really a game four for Charleston to show their will that what Charleston's done in these playoffs is amazing.
They've given up 12 points defensively to shut out some two games when they gave up six points, and they all have in common garden center point you got talking about Newport and then risin in the semifinals those are all teams that run the football so they have seen an attack very similar to what Boonville has got.
Charleston's defense is, you know, I used that term last week when we're talking about Bryant borderline elite Charleston defense of their outstanding yeah it's going to be fun to watch we'll check in with Madison Fitzpatrick when we come back.
I also look at some players to watch in this one as you're watching the Centennial Bank State Football Championships on Arkansas.
PBS Sports.
You know, I think sports are really big to a lot of people.
And because it is so important part of our fabric and our community.
And the one good thing about what I've seen is it's high quality production.
You know, you think of small communities all over Arkansas.
It's a big deal that they can turn on the TV or DVR or whatever and know they're going to get a quality product.
And so I think it just expands the the focus of what PBS is doing.
You know, Arkansas PBS is doing a great job.
And I think it's part of education.
So what makes a dairy bar different from other food establishments here in Arkansas?
It describes a whole selection of restaurants we love.
It's a location that serves ice cream burgers or hot dogs, some having been in existence 50 years or more.
Come travel with me on a culinary itinerary of Arkansas dairy bars.

Back here at War Memorial Stadium, Charleston, Boonville.
In the three eight state title game, I'm R.J. Hauck, along with Bobby Swafford.
Madison Fitzpatrick is down on the sidelines for today's contest.
And Bobby, we talked so much about both these teams.
Now it's time to look at the players to watch in this one.
And let's start first start with the Boonville Bearcats and things run through DAX Gaul.
Yeah, he's he's a load.
He's going to be one of those flex backs or the wing back, if you will, but get these numbers, 2243 rushing yards this year.
27 touchdowns did not play in the regular season contests against Charleston.
So this is going be the Tigers first.
Look at the big wing back, but you go the other side.
Of course, you got to start with the quarterback.
Brandon Scott has thrown for over 2500 yards, 29 touchdowns, only four interceptions this year.
He can also run a little bit, Bobby, 742 yards rushing.
Yeah.
And add 12 more touchdowns to that.
So it's not just, okay, we got to make him run the football because he can beat you in multiple ways.
Obviously, Charleston's offensive scored a lot of points, but they rely on their defense.
And you mentioned the four interceptions.
He doesn't turn the football over.
Yeah, you're exactly right.
Hey, let's sit down the sidelines to join our third member of this broadcast team.
Madison Fitzpatrick is down there in Madison.
Both these teams have been here.
They've won state championships.
They are very, very much similar.
Oh, yeah, 100%.
And the theme of tonight is definitely rivalry.
These two teams are 16 miles apart and there's a lot of interconnected stories here.
So see if you can follow me on this one.
We've got Boonville head coach Doc Crawley sister works at Charleston and so do both of his parents.
Charleston head coach Ricky May coached at Boonville for many years.
His wife is the head cheer coach at Boonville and Booneville running back Dukes Golf goes to Charleston, Charleston head coaches church.
So if that doesn't just amp up the intensity of the game, I don't really know what does.
Yeah, no, you're exactly right.
Madison, thank you so much.
We'll check in with you throughout the ball game.
As you can see in the background, Bobby, the weather is it's let up from what we saw earlier in the game, but you've still got a nice Ole Miss coming down.
Yeah, if you look at the weather we've got today, this is perfect Boonville weather.
So if you had to put it to a tee there, they were hoping the rain's going to keep coming in, supposed to clear out.
Hopefully it clears out.
And of course, Charleston is going to throw the football.
But, you know, if it more times not Boonville football, it's all about, you know, what they're going to do.
The grass is brown.
You know, their cats go to town.
It's not a perfect weather day as we're starting to kick off.
You know what about 830?
Yeah, but we've slugged it through the day that to this point, 51 degrees is what we're going to start with.
The temperature with a five mile an hour wind, light rain, wind chill, though, with that rain is going to make it about 48 degrees.
And you can see on that shot, it looks like an absolutely gorgeous day, the stadium.
But if you take a look at the lights, that's where you just have to look at everything.
That's where you see the mist coming down here at War Memorial Stadium as both teams are getting ready to make their way onto the playing surface.
Now, Bobby Charleston comes in 13 and one.
They're loan losses here or to the national scrappers.
Yeah the lost back of the non-conference but their defense has figured it out 12 points allowed in the playoffs in their four contests, 12 points allowed their six total games.
The defense has completely locked in and that's going to be big slowing down this Boonville rushing attack.
As for Boonville, you know, they're 12 and two on the year.
One of those losses was this Charleston team.
But we want to mention that there was a lot of starters missing in that game.
Yeah, there's a reason that we haven't talked about the fact that these two teams met in the regular season.
They play in the same conference.
Charleston, the one seed from that league, Boonville, too, because up to ten players did not play in that contest for the Bearcats eight starters, including all three linebackers.
And so that game is really not a good litmus test.
It's not a really good measuring stick, if you will, about what we're going to see tonight.
Let's play these keys of the game.
And really, you know, we talk about the rivalry.
You don't want to make that the the main sticking point of the state championship game.
But for Charleston, they got to stop that inside run.
Yeah it all starts really with with that flexible born offense with the full back Cody Elliott he leads the team in rushing attempts 190 he had 25 carries in the second half last week against Melbourne.
Those Bearcats couldn't stop the full back dove and so they just kept giving it to Cody Elliott up the middle.
12 rushing touchdowns in the playoffs for the Boonville football fullback and for Boonville they got to not allow for Charleston to get in a rhythm of any any 12.
Yeah, they've got to find a way to get Brandon Scott off the spot, if you will.
We talked about his passing yards, 2500 yards through the air.
He can beat you on the run, but you've got to be able to force him out, get a little pressure, get him uncomfortable, and try to make him throw on the run while maintaining your rush lanes.
Well, both teams have made their way onto the playing surface here at War Memorial Stadium, the Charleston Tigers, where they're all white, all black uniforms trimmed in white and gold with white numerals, black helmets.
And then on that other side, the Booneville Bearcats, they've got that all white uniform.
And boy, you just you look forward to these type of rivalry games.
We saw it in the two way game when you had a Hasan team that was really good.
And that rivalry game is always fun.
But when you see it in a state championship, that's where it's the best.
Yeah, it's it's crazy to think about.
These two teams have played in so many championships.
We've talked about the nine combine titles and here they are meeting for the championship.
Again, we thought it was going to happen back when Ty Storey was in high school.
Of course, that know the Tigers won back to back title.
We thought it would be a Booneville Charleston championship but didn't see it that year.
But now the two rivals from the River Valley have a chance to duke it out for the final football championship handed out this season.
So the kicker is going to be Brian Ketter for Charleston is back deep.
They will have Trace Hall, Cody Elliott and DAX Goff standing by for this three day state championship kick off.
Glad to have you along.
I'm RJ Holcomb with Bobby Swofford.
And the football is in the air.
It's championship time in Arkansas as bringing the football up for Boonville will be Cody Elliott.
And Elliott bobbled it briefly, but he'll bring it out past the 15 yard line, takes it out to around the 18.
And that's where Boonville will have it first and ten as we start this class three state championship.
So I guess we're going to have to point it out.
The playing conditions are going to have a huge factor in this and especially in the kicking game.
We see Elliott Bobble, the kickoff there.
Now Boonville starts their opening possession inside their own 20 yard line.
Payton Tatum, the quarterback for Boonville as they'll come back with that wingback set they do have wide receivers lined up, but they're usually used as decoys or blockers.
They'll hand it off straight up the middle and nowhere to go.
That Charleston defense is going to stop in for a minimal game that time.
DAX Goff taking around in the middle.
That's where it's going to be the most important.
And there we see Dale Smith, 778, the big, big notes tackle who makes the play?
Can they control the gaps on either side of the center?
That's going to be really big for Charleston.
Cody Elliott, the lead back in the backfield in the In Motion was Dak's Goff.
But he'll turn things around and looks like they're going to reset the offense so yeah they're going to see a lot of that.
Check with me with the Boonville offense as they send the man in motion.
This time they flip it out.
The golf and Charleston does a great job of maintaining, contain and making the play in the backfield.
Number two, Rich Maresca makes the stop for the Tigers and this is what Boonville cannot find themselves in third and long.
This is a team that's all about three or four yards a pop this time now to be facing third and 11 after the great play on the perimeter by Morris.
And you know, this is a team that, you know, they live and die off that three yards is a cloud and just you know when he gets to through a third down and ten that's kind of no man's territory for this Boonville offense.
Wingback set off of each side as Elliott's laid back in the backfield.
Goff in motion.
They're going to hand it to Elliott straight up the middle.
He'll get it out, pass the 25 to the 26 yard line.
And that's going to bring up fourth down after you've got a good chunk of yardage that time.
Got about seven, but it'll be fourth down.
Yeah, that's what Boonville needs on first and second down as they trot.
The punt squad out there.
If Charleston can make win first and second down, they're going to have a really good chance to win in this football game because they try to make a Boonville team one dimensional, make them throw the football.
And when your starting quarterback has 215 yards through the year through 14 games, obviously that's not your forte.
So Boonville is going to be on the punt here as they kick his way, take a low kick and it'll be picked up by Charleston and out pass the tornado, 35 to the 37 yard line.
That's a big stop to start this contest for the Charleston defense, which we expected.
That's the strength of them.
And now we'll see what they can do offensively as they trot out onto the field.
And this is going to be our first look at Brandon.
Stop the quarterback 2500 yards through the air, 740 on the ground, 41 combined touchdowns.
He's number 12.
He's going to lead things for the Tigers so they'll have it first and ten from the 37 yard line.
They'll stack two wide receivers on either side of the formation with a fifth receiver tied to the formation on the right side, moving out.
That's Brevin Ketter.
Here's the shotgun snap he's going to look to go big ball down across the middle infield field kind of man that's out to Brighton Ketter and Ketter is going to take it into Boonville territory at the 46 yard line.
Yeah, the Booneville bench was saying the ball came out late, but the officials don't agree.
43rd catch of the season already for Ketter came into the contest with 550 yards receiving.
So it's a first down the first first down the ball game is worth the 940 mark in the first quarter and Charleston light it up at the 46 yard line and a look here's a look at that last play, of course.
And he had great time in the pocket, really no pressure.
And right across the middle of the field, Fant was able to find header.
Here's a good look at oh the ball's coming out between the legs to sweat.
You can't ever tell if the ball actually goes to the ground from that angle.
And it looks like we may have our first review.
You know, we haven't had many reviews throughout the last week in all this.
One had one in the first game today and it looks like they're going to see this one.
So this early in the contest, all plays are reviewed with them, not necessarily going to be stopped and buzz down.
So Boonville goes ahead and takes the time out to see if this one and they use their challenge.
You only get one challenge and they're obviously going to roll the dice early.
934 left here in the first.
So we're taking take another look at it right here.
And so the ball is definitely loose.
Does it ever touch the ground?
I think, yeah.
I mean, you can kind of tell where he's reaching.
I think him but I think it was trap to his calf.
Yeah.
I mean, you can never see a clean look on the ball on the ground.
And obviously that's what the officials in the replay booth are looking for.
Does the ball actually make any point of the ball?
Because it clearly he doesn't have possession.
If they think any part of the ball touches the ground, it's going to be incomplete.
I think that's a good indication right there.
You see number five for Boonville Dunn.
Daniel, come in waving his arms.
He he thinks he's got a good angle.
That's an incomplete pass.
But again, we've got to have clear and obvious video evidence that that ball touches the ground.
And let's not forget the officials said that it was a completed pass.
And so, if anything, they're going to say they can sit here and say that, you know, they don't have enough evidence and it'll stand as a completed pass.
Yeah, it's clear the ball is loose.
Now, the question is, does it touch the ground?
And I don't I don't think we have a clear and obvious angle, because if he caught it with between his legs, that's going to be like the catch the or by the way, because I don't know.
I think it looks like his calf was the one where it trapped it and then he kind of secured it with his calf.
I mean I mean, you automatically you watch this and you assume, okay, this is an incomplete pass.
You can't assume you have to have clear and obvious evidence.
And I don't know from the replays that we've seen, I'm not sure that I'm not sure this is going to be overturned because I don't think there's evidence to do so.
I agree.
It looks like we've got an answer.
Well well, they're going to say incomplete.
Okay.
I mean, so that's what the eye kind of tells us.
But know from the angles that we saw there.
Yeah, but I mean, I don't think anybody's going to argue that, hey, that probably was an incomplete pass.
Probably does.
Does the video replay room have different camera looks and what we're seeing now?
So they're seeing everything that we see.
And so they're using the same cameras.
They've got the technology that we've got.
And so pretty much what we saw is what they what they went off of.
And I don't think they're really anybody's going to argue with the fact that was ruled incomplete, even though who doesn't thousand percent see the ball, touch the ground.
Yeah.
Okay.
So that'll now make it second down and ten from the 37 yard line.
So Scott's going to roll out sidearms it has his receiver that time looking up with it looks like it was Brevin Ketter and is going to take it out to pass the 40 yard line to the 43 gorilla.
Interested to see how Boonville handles this spread attack.
Watching last week's semifinal matchup with Melbourne.
Melbourne went five wide a lot of the times and tried to get receivers coming across the middle, maybe deep over out to drag routes.
We'll see what Boonville tries to do to counteract that.
Or if Charleston tries to take advantage of the middle of the field to stack receivers on both sides of the formation as they faked the handoff on the jet sweep.
And it's going to be Scott keeping himself out past the 45 yard line and he'll take it down to the 43.
And so that'll be a first.
Down is Charleston takes them to Boonville territory.
Yeah.
We saw Louisville's defense really spread out there with the five receiver set.
There's really nobody in the middle of the field.
And once they fake the speed sweep on the motion, there is a lot of open spaces there for Scott and he made a big play.
And then, like you said, RJ, they're already in Boonville Territory.
Clock is rolling at 850 and counting as Scott's going to have two white outs on the near side.
They're just going to hand it off.
This time it's kattar.
There's a penalty flag down at the 41 and Kent is going to take it out past the first down marker, but hold everything because usually where those penalty flags come in, that's an indication of holding or holding is the initial call.
So that's going to march the Tigers back.
And you can see right there on that they believe that time for Charleston, it was Bryan Ketter who just had the outside leverage on the shoulder pads.
And so that'll back him up and it will be now a first down and eight team because it was a spot foul there.
There's good looking coach Scott Crowley there who are in the all black, the hands on his hips.
You know, of course, these two teams know each other so well.
Let's find a way to that play chess and you know we didn't really talk much about the head coach is Ricky May for Charleston is in his fourth year 36 and 12 and then for Booneville Crowley is 35 and seven in his third year.
So it's first down in 18 with the ball at the 49 yard line Scott going to roll left trying to find something and is just going to throw this one away.
Smart move that time by Brandon Scott who by the way is a three year starter yeah nice job by Scott there he avoids the initial pressure rolls out but he rolls out the opposite the direction of all his receivers.
So when he rolls to his left there's nobody on that side of the football, nobody play with the ball really between the hash mark and the sideline.
So he wisely just throws out one away.
But now second and long because of the holding penalty ball is in check Charleston territory at the 49 yard line second down and 18 screen great job to set that one up.
Yeah.
This time it's kattar going off the right side, going out of bounds and got a chunky yards that time as it'll only be about two yards shy of the first down.
Yeah, that was really nicely set up there.
Booneville rushers have to recognize that they weren't being blocked, they were let go on purpose and a nice job by Scott just to dump that off to his running back.
Ketter, who had 21 catches coming into the contest and now it's third manageable football did to get punched out there at the end though by Dak's Gulf yeah Goff is a he is a man among boys just a body size a golf 2200 yards rushing and leads the team in tackles Yeah third down Here's a handoff.
Nice running lane stays on his feet all the way down the 20 yard line.
That's why that screen RJ was so important.
It put you into a third and manageable.
So you can't say, okay, they are going to run the football, they are going to throw it here and they go to simple lead play and this big first down there for the Tigers, Brevin Scott is hard to take down.
You know he combined for over a thousand all purpose yards and you can see why right there just a very slick to get through and and the spin move at the very end just to get that extra three or four yards is big.
So now it's first and ten with the ball at the 20 yard line got lined up in the shotgun is hill roll left going to look back to throw right looking for his running back and it's incomplete Nice coverage that time by Brooks Herrera it's a great job R.J. closing by Herrera he was beaten initially of if Scott lets that go as he gets the snap that's likely a touchdown but nice closing speed there ball and a little bit under thrown.
Not only does he break at the pass, but it doesn't get there too early and initiate contact.
That's a long throw as well because he you know, he went that far hash mark and they had a throw all the way back across the field.
So now it's second down and ten and I hand it off spin move at the line of scrimmage and stumbling was ketter as he'll take it pass the 15 down to the 14 yard line Vick Charleston's getting a look that they want from Boonville defense they're spread them out with the three or four, maybe even five receiver sets.
We're seeing three down linemen and one, maybe two linebackers.
It's a really light box, maybe only five inside of the tackle box there.
And you can see the whole I mean, that's four or five guaranteed yards every time Goff misses the initial tackle and now it's third and medium block rolls at 615, counting as Charleston's going to line three receivers up on that left side.
He's got Tedder to the left and Scott now moves it to the right side.
There's a toss inside.
And right at the ten yard line being stood up was Brighton Ketter.
And Ketter takes it down to the 11.
It's a three yard game that's going to be really close to the first down marker, but that was a big time stick right after change.
So it's fourth down and four and it looks like the kicking and it's on for Charles.
Ah, they went with their bigger package.
That's what it is.
Tight formation going quarterback sneak in.
It's a rugby play at the line of scrimmage you got there and they're marking him at the 11.
Yep, that was a great job to get that initial push by the Boonville defense and I don't think they got their order.
I think this is going to be a turnover on downs and it looks like there is an injured Charleston player down on the field that looks to be Brady Clayton, the senior.
And, you know, I described it as a rugby rugby player because, you know, in rugby, those guys all get right there together.
And, you know, with the with the quarterback sneak that that's been enhanced these days it almost seems like it's just a bulldozer of the offense trying to pull and Charleston did a good job excuse me.
Boonville did a good job getting lower and not allowing for that that extra push, more so as a scrum.
But that's all it is.
And a lot of times you'll see the running backs get behind the quarterback and try to push him forward.
But we haven't seen the call.
Whether it's a first down, we haven't got a measurement yet.
Obviously the main concern is the health of Clayton but you can see him and they didn't have far to go but I'm they might have even gone backwards.
Well as he's being tended to on the turf, let's go out and take a break.
And while they're getting with him and we'll take a quick break and then come back, you're watching the Centennial Bank State Football Championships in Arkansas.
PBS Sports.
Hi, I'm Jay Schweikert, the host of Life in Blue.

Easy, easy, easy.
Thanks for watching.
Back here at War Memorial Stadium as Clayton was able to get off the field with some help and now it was a turnover on downs after the official measurement and boom bulls got the football nice running lanes up the right side that time for Boonville it was Cody Elliott and that's where the offense starts.
RJ Right up the middle.
A 32 on the fullback, you got to stop him on the mid line.
And that time Charleston lets him squirt three easy nine yards.
And now that entire playbook because once you start biting down, that's when they flip it out the Gulf.
So it's now second down and one with the ball at the 20 yard line wing backs off either side.
Golf goes in motion.
They hand it to Elliott straight ahead.
And Elliott's going to get the first down and a couple more.
Do you see what Charleston's defensive line did there?
As soon as golf goes in motion, they kind of shift over all at the same time trying to change the eye level, change the responsibilities of those offensive linemen.
They were able to shut down Elliott for a short game, but still enough to move the six.
So now it's that's the first first down for Boone for the ball game.
And it's first and ten with the ball at the 23 yard line.
Again, block rolls at 520 and counting left here in the first quarter.
We've only seen him try to get the ball to Goff one time.
And Boonville is patient enough.
They're not going to force it to their 2000 yard rusher.
If it's not there, they're not going to try to get greedy.
Now, here's an end around play.
They give it up to Trace Hall and hall gets past the 30 yard line and down to the 31 nice gainer that time as he's able to pick up eight yards on the play.
You know, Hall's the one player that we haven't really brought up in this conversation.
Oh, he's done this year, run for 1300 yards and 19 touchdowns.
They can get you from every angle.
Pretty nice to have three running backs over a thousand yards.
So it's now second down and two with the ball at the 31 wing backs up each side.
There goes Goff.
They hand it to him for the first time and he gets submarine right at the line of scrimmage.
Yeah, it's going to be really close, Bobby, but I think he's going to be right there at the first down marker of golf is a lot bigger.
Freeing than you normally see in an offense like this.
Normally you see those those short squatty running backs movement, more fullback type, but Goff's got some length to him, got some size, took a visit to Kansas State so he's getting some big time looks as far as the next level, but looks like the Bearcat offense is march in the wrong direction.
Yeah, there was a penalty flag down.
Oh, no.
Now they're going to measure.
Scuse me.
So this is a big opportunity for Boonville, not only to keep their defense on the sideline, they need to help try to flip field position.
They need to pick up another first down or two just to get a little breathing room and not allow Charleston essentially to start a drive on their side of the 50.
So it was about a half yard shy of the first down.
So that's gonna bring up third down and one with the ball at the 31 yard line.
More than 5000 rushing yards on the season for this Bearcat squad.
And they've got a chance.
We talk about it in the second half to become the state's all time leader.
As far as a team rushing yards in a season type formation go the Bearcats, they're going to hand it off and he'll be able to get the first down and a little bit more.
That time running the football was Elliott and Elliott gets it out.
Pass the 35 yard line to the 36 and it's another beautiful first down near the fullback Cody Elliott came into this contest with 190 carries and a lot of them are kind of like that two, three yards.
He's all about making the defense collapse onto him, and that opens up things on the perimeter.
So it's first and ten with the ball at the 35 yard line.
His runner, 4 minutes to play here in the first quarter.
Golf comes in motion.
They're going to hand it to him off the right side and he'll be able to get it out, pass the 40 yard line, takes it out to the 42 and that'll bring up second down for Booneville.
So what you see there, RJ, it looks like there's a lot of moving parts.
That's an off tackle play he just handed to the wing back coming around.
You've got a lead blocker out in front.
He looks for daylight and he throws it up in there and gets seven yards.
Yeah.
So at second down and three as Bobo's got the football and now we've got penalty flags down is jumping into the neutral zone for Charleston it was Roy Hutson that's where they kind of lawyer to sleep there.
They run the speed sweep, they run the quick handoff and all of a sudden they they go fake snap on and you get five free yards and a first down.
It's still about five yards away from entering Charleston territory.
And rounding third down here at the first really good drive.
Obviously, they've only had the ball one other opportunity, but you can tell the Bearcat offense start to get a little momentum here and the quarterback, Peyton Tatum, takes it around that time.
He wants in on the running action as he'll take it into Charleston territory at the 45 yard line.
Know, a lot of times you see this offense, the quarterback's a huge part of the run game.
If any of you watch the Army-Navy game, the Navy quarterback runs it more than anybody else.
That's not really the case here for Peyton Tatum.
Only 305 yards on the season rushing the football for the Boonville quarterback.
So he's more of a distributor.
But sometimes if you leave it wide open, he's going to take it take advantage.
Picks up 8/2 down and two for Boonville as they give it to Elliott straight ahead.
Picks up the first down and two yards past the marker down to the 41 yard line.
So this Boonville offense is all about grinding out time, grinding out yardage, turn up the clock.
Because guess what, if you don't have the ball, you can't score.
Yeah.
And if it takes some 25 plays in 12 minutes, so be it.
It's probably more to their game plan than it is to score in to place.
So it's first and ten with the ball at the 41 yard line.
Right now, Boonville has collected 50 total yards of offense so far on this one wing backs off each side and now the quarterback, Peyton Tatum, looking back to the sideline to get a new play and I have to hurry play clock's running out They're going to burn time out So that's their first charge.
Time out of the ballgame as Charleston's got a little bit of momentum a lot better momentum this time for Boonville than they'd had on their first drive.
But before we talk any more, we got to bring in the third member of our broadcast team as Mattison Fitzpatrick is on the sidelines and Madison Cody Elliott, he's kind of done it all so far for Boonville.
Oh, yeah.
And Cody Elliott described by his coach, Ricky Maye.
Ricky May said there's not a better, tougher kid out there.
He said he's got a chip on his shoulder and he uses that to his advantage.
And he said that's kind of what his team is all about.
He's got a team comprised of a lot of undersized kids who get booed.
Boonville, Boonville football.
They have.
Thank you, Madison as well.
Got 204 left here in the first quarter scoreless ballgame here in the three state championship game between Boonville and Charleston.
Colt wasn't even expected to be the starting fullback for the squad coming into it.
You think about of all the tradition that Boonville has had through the years and it always generally starts with their kid name.
Right.
And this year, Rylan Ray, who's an all state all conference fullback, coming back gets hurt in the first game of the season and he's out for the year.
And now they've got to go to an undersized fullback like Madison is talking about.
He's maybe five, seven, maybe £150 talking with Coach Crowley this week.
But he says he's willing to just take the handoff after handoff.
And I mentioned during the opening had 25 carries in the second half last week first and ten for Boonville.
As Goff comes in motion, they fake it the handoff to him and Tatum decided to keep it himself and he'll get back.
Maybe lost a yard, but for sure got back to the line of scrimmage.
Yeah, there just wasn't much there.
They did a nice job of swallowing up Elliott the point of attack.
So he pulls and tries to run the option with golf and he's just gobbled up on the outside.
Nice job.
Looked like it was 60 to Hunter Little who made the play.
So that brings up second down and ten for Boonville as there's some changes on that offensive line.
Checking out of the ball game for Boonville was Brooks Herrera checking in was just Jace Washburn wing backs off each side and a hand on the end around gave it that time to trace hall and he has nowhere to go really nice job by the Charleston defense to stretch that one out.
And now a late flag comes in.
Bobby, I always wonder if that was a late hit out of bounds.
The official was having a hard time getting the the penalty flag out of his pocket as he's on the sidelines.
And then I don't think it helped that the Charleston football team was was right there in his ear either.
You know, after the play, unsportsmanlike conduct, I guess the offense wasn't really a hit.
It was a unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Boonville.
And so that's going to back them up.
That's not what they want to do here on third down.
Yeah, they really got something going with this drive.
Nine plays, 48 yards on the plus side of the 40 going in and all of a sudden now you've got an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty is going to march you back and now it's going to be and 25 for an offense that doesn't throw the football so unless you hit something big on the ground game, this drive looks like it's going to stall out near midfield.
So that'll take the ball back into Boonville territory at the 40 for a minute, 16 left here in the first quarter.
We've got a scoreless ballgame here in the three championship game, 27 pass attempts all season long.
So they're not a team that likes to be behind the chains or even attempts to throw the football.
Very often that's less than two per contest.
Golf comes in motion.
They're going to hand it to Elliott.
Now we've got a whistle on a penalty on the far side.
It's going to be against Boonville.
False start receiver got a little bit of a head start there Herrera Dabo false start of the offensive five yard penalty.
We think they know that.
So they just keep going backwards.
For Boonville, that is now their second penalty.
They've required 20 yards a penalty so far in this one really promising drive, just shooting their own toes off back to back.
Miscues, third down and 30 as they're going to hand it off to Elliott straight up the middle.
He got four, maybe five yards away on fourth down.
An offense like that can withstand a holding call here, you know, a false start there.
But when it's third down, you can't give up 20 yards in penalties and expect to be successful.
And as the punching back out there for the second time, the kick for both was DAX Goff.
And for Charleston back deep, they'll have Bryson Kendricks.
Also back deep for Charleston is Reese Goretzka.
Emmerich is going to take it off the right side.
There is a penalty flag down, but he's got a running lane out past the 40 yard line and he'll go out of bounds.
I'll pass the 45 to the 47th.
Nice job setting up the wall to their sideline to Charleston.
But there is a flag and more times not on special teams.
That means that one's coming back.
Flag is down at the 23 yard line.
There'll be a spot foul with 28 seconds left during the return block in the back.
And this is 70 to on 35%.
So there it is.
BLOCK in the back.
And so now Charleston is going to have their drive deep in their own territory.
So instead of starting that drive at their own 47 is going to be a good look at it.
Right in front of the officials right there.
You can see the guilty party 14 in the middle of your screen.
That's the center.
Instead of the 47 that's going to go all the way back to the 14.
So 33 yards a field position lost because of that miscue.
So it's going to be first and ten with the ball at the 14 yard line and a 28 seconds left here in the first quarter.
Brandon Scott, the shotgun going a lot to throw throws the tunnel screen.
It's gone.
Nothing work and it's tight and Jones got it but he went backwards to the ten.
It's a great job by seven Trace Hall to recognize the attempted screen there and just blows it up behind the line of scrimmage.
And now a drive that was already going backwards because of the penalty is now behind the chains as we're ticking towards the end of period number one.
Yeah, that's going to do it.
So as we end one quarter of play, we've got a scoreless one in the three eight state championship game, Boonville zero, Charleston zero.

And don't forget, it's the season three premiere.
I hear that it's going to be a great episode.
You don't want to miss it tonight after the football game.
So Charleston's got it first and ten from the ten yard line as they're going to hand it straight, the middle and nice running lines down past the 15 yard line.
And it gives Charleston some breathing room as they get out past the 15 to the 17 yard line.
It's almost like a chess match with what Boonville is doing defensively.
They're almost daring.
Charleston Hey, we want you to run the football and Charleston trying to talk to themselves.
And they're running the football because obviously they're a Sprint team.
They want to throw it out there.
But when you're only got three or four down linemen, it's really hard not to just to try to this game it up there in the middle and pick up seven or eight yards.
And if you break a tackle, maybe break a big one third down and seven with the ball at the 17 yard line as Charleston will have three wide to the near side as Carter will be split out wide.
Now Scott going to look to throw he'll step up going to run with it out pass the 20 stays on his feet gets the first down all the way to the 26 yard line.
That's a great job by Scott and you can see this the strength right there to break the initial tackle because if he doesn't get through the first would be tackler that's a three and out there for Charleston's offense but he keeps the offense on the field, breaks the tackle.
They were trying to get the the motion running back out of the backfield on the wheel route.
You can see them there on the far side of your screen.
But a great job by Scott, who sheds that tackler, picks up the first down.
So it's first and ten with the ball to 26 four wide in the formation with KETTER lined up to go after Scott Scott going to look to throw trying to go big ball down the middle of the field he's got a man it's almost intercepted threw it behind his intended target trying to hook up that time with Titan Jones.
He had this too far out there.
He just couldn't get enough on it.
The flags really aren't flying here at all.
Memorial Stadium, so not much wind.
There's not near enough arm strength to get that out in front.
He had to step on the defender just under thrown a touch and a great job by the defender to adjust and break that one up.
You see right here on the replay as he put a lot into it, just threw it back behind his receiver.
And boy, if he throws a little bit shorter right there for Booneville, I believe Bobby was that Madsen that was on coverage.
But either way, here's a running play straight up the middle.
Nice running late.
Still on his feet out.
Pass the 30 and take him down and around the 23 yard line.
That's what I'm talking about.
RJ, Brevin Carter there.
And sometimes it's just hard not to take that initial drive, drive right up the middle, and that time he pops in for a big one and the tigers are knocking on the door of the red zone again.
Yeah.
Brevin Carter that time exploded like a rocket right up the middle.
And so they've got the 23 yard line deep into Booneville territory as there's four wide in the formation.
Scott and look to throw Scott steps up in the pocket under pressure now he's going to roll right direct and receivers has a man right the first down marker that's going to be at the 13 and that might be just enough for a first down that does a great job by Sebastian Gano what's a realize the scramble rules if you're quarterback scrambles out you either go deeper you come back to your quarterback, show your numbers show that you're open in a great job by Scott to put it on him right near the first down Marquise Martin a yard outside or inside to the line to gain so it's second down and one they give it to Carter Carter's going to run with it out, pass the ten and he'll take it down to the six.
Goff finally tracks him down, but Charleston's got a first in goal now, and they're starting to attack all levels of that defense.
They go up the middle for the big play, and now you can see they're trying to test the perimeter.
So it's first and goal for Charleston.
Clock rolling at 1025 and counting as Wilson two wide receivers to the right side Carter lined up behind Scott they're working out of the pistol and a hand it to Carter straight up the middle He walks the dog in the end zone bounced off a couple of players and it's him for the first score the ball game when you get that look, it'd be really hard for me not to audible to something right up the middle.
This three down linemen, a couple of linebackers in the box, you can tell Boonville is daring them to run the football and until they prove that they're going to stop.
You want to convince assistant basis?
I'll just keep him at it after number four because it's working right now certainly worked on that drive 1008 to play here in the first half as Charleston strikes first six to nothing over Boonville we will take a break and on to attempt the point after is going to be Brighton Carter the kick is up plenty of leg and it's good and with 1008 to play here in the second quarter Charleston leads at seven I nothing you're watching the Centennial Bank state football championships in Arkansas PBS sports and more.

She's been out taking pictures just this long, and he takes some outstanding photos.
So Charles is going to kick it off with 1008 to play here in the second quarter as Ryan Tedder set to kick well, put a foot into it and it is returnable as he'll take it out to to bring it up is going to be that's Tracy Hall who brought it up and Hall's going to take it out pass the 25 to the 26 yard line.
So Charleston's had some success running the football.
Now Brandon Carter, seven, carries 96 yards.
We started to see the Boonville offense start to roll until penalties derailed their last arrival, see how they can see if they can pick that momentum back up here in the second quarter.
Of course, it's going to start with the fullback and see if they can try to incorporate DAX Gaul and Trace Hall a little more on the outside.
Are you a little surprised that golf's not been working on this offense a little bit more now come in because they don't force point because they're going to they're going to make you stop the fullback first and then they try to open things up.
Here's a handoff to Elliott and he's bottled up in the backfield, going to lose a yard on the play and bring up second down.
Great job by the interior linemen for Charleston.
You see big 78 Dale Smith right in the middle it's going to start with him he recognized didn't go with the play action fake to the speed sweep and swallows up Elliott for a loss brings up second down and 11 which does a great job of shucking the defender and I guess we're going to give credit to 14 there as well not on the roster but he's number one in your heart Gerald Martinez.
So it's now second down and 11 ahead fake the handoff quarterback Tatum keeps it himself takes down to the 29 yard line four yard pickup that time for Booneville I think from our vantage point right there was a really good look at what Charleston's trying to do.
If Tatum keeps it as the quarterback and they start to run the option there, shading him to the outside so he can't pitch it forced the quarterback to to tuck it up himself because you want him to try to beat you instead of letting big 34 meet you on the outside.
So it brings up a third down and seven with the ball to 30 yard line all goes in motion.
They pitch it to him and he is going to be swallowed up in the backfield.
Coming up to make the stop for Charleston, it was Brighton Ketter making his plays on both sides of the football and that time they try to go toss sweep to the far side.
He recognized it, got leverage to the outside and made a great play and now likely going to force another Boonville punt onto kick for Boonville is going to be Dak's golf and back deep for Charleston you've got Reese Mercieca along with Bryson Kendricks it's going to go to Mertesacker as reverse.
He's going to hand it off the near side, but baboon goes right there to see it and they give it off to Kendricks, who goes out of bounds at the 42.
But I want to remind everybody that's tuning in right now that if you're expecting to see Broadchurch, you are currently watching the three state championship game, but the season three premiere will immediately follow this game.
And so you'll be able to watch Broadchurch tonight following this game.
I like what Charleston tried to do there with the special teams.
I got Maresca to try to do the reverse on the special teams.
Low risk play didn't pan out and I we'll see if they can do anything offensively so here's Scott looking to throw working right side under pressure is able to find a man that was more checking and this was not able to hook on that to bring up second down and ten beautiful is doing a really nice job of of withstanding that initial pass rush right so Charleston past protections okay but Boonville doing a good job of chasing Scott out of the pocket couldn't find his receiver.
So that brings up second down and ten ball in the hash seven and I think Charleston leads Boonville as they'll send two wide receivers to the far side working out of the pistol with Carter in the backfield going to hand it to KETTER Carter gets it out to the 45 yard line will pick up about three yards on the play to bring up third down and seven.
This is a really important play here for for Boonville defense.
You've been on the field.
Charleston's had some success, especially running the football.
Now you've got them in an obvious passing situation.
See, if you get yourself off the field.
So three wide in the formation and comes and motions Maresca Baraka works left side actually I take that yeah it is Maresca so he'll go down at the 44 yard loss on the play and brings up fourth down he's not going to get credit for the play but Johnny Barnes big number 54 Boonville blew that up He took his offensive lineman and just chucked him into the backfield and the receiver coming through on the speed sweep or the quick toss had to reroute.
I kind of have to loop it out a little bit and stay square in parallel with that line of scrimmage and then allowed the rest of the Boonville defense time to get over, make the play and force support.
So back deep for Byrd will be Brooks Herrera along with Trace Hall.
And here comes the fake and they're going to throw it downfield one handed grab down at the 35 yard line.
How about that?
Coming up with the one handed grab was Bryson.
Kendricks can take some guts right there.
We already saw one bit of shenanigans with the fake power, the cheating, the reversal, the punt.
But you had your quarterback as the up back and they fake it and what a catch by Kendricks the 21 the junior it doesn't get any better than that and the biggest stage of his career yeah big time play and it's now first and ten going to hand it off Carter and he'll be slowed down at the 35 one yard game Great job by Goff there to get over the block and make the play for a minimal gain But that's a huge momentum swing.
RJ Boonville defense thinks they got to stop.
They're going to get the football back and just what a catch and won't be getting the other angles of that one.
But that one's going to be on the highlight reel for Bryson Kendricks second down and nine block rolls at 625 and counting for wide the formation as Kenner lines up behind Scott in the pistol and I had to do it but we've got penalty flags down there ball file encroachment right and be able to do the catch hey let's take another look at that catch on the fake punt boy look at that just extending out with one hand and is able to take it down to the 30 yard line.
That is a big time and that's great defense.
Recognizing Dak Gulf right there.
He recognizes the fake punt.
He knows his responsibility running in stride for stride with the receiver.
There's I guess there's no defense for a perfect.
You throw a pie out there of course these gloves are a pretty much like legal stick on these days.
But we're going to say that's a great catch.
And not just the contraptions on his hands.
Five wide receivers in the formation as Scott going to look to throw again has a man inside the 25 as he takes it down to the 22 yard line That's a great job by Scott just to look to his left he had three receivers on that side and know what it comes with good Noah right there in the middle and he just hits him for the little button hook and moves the chains.
So now it's first and ten from the 22 yard line.
Sebastian Bonilla getting his first catch of the ball game.
Well, it would be a big, big momentum swing for Charleston if they can get this thing in the end zone five one in the formation.
Scott's going to keep himself out, pass the 15, move it in and out, bobbing and weaving.
He in the end zone.
Touchdown.
Sometimes it just works out for Georgia.
They go quarterback, draw bundles, bring in pressure from the outside.
They just run right in between the two the blitzers and he makes a couple of guys miss and as you so eloquently put it, a little hop here, a little step there.
And he's in the end zone and so on.
The kick is going to be Brian Ketter for the extra point 513 to play here in the second quarter as the kick is up and it blinks off the top of the upright but goes in and it's now thwarted, usually when it dunks off the top, it picks back.
But that one went through, Hey, when it's gone, it's working, it's working.
And Charleston's got a 14.
Nothing lead to it.
Let's head down to the sidelines and check in with Mattison Fitzpatrick and Mattison.
Brandon Scott is doing a lot of good things right now for the Charleston Tigers.
Oh, my goodness.
Yes, he's incredible.
I don't know if you guys could tell, but from down here, he's just so athletic.
And it was it was almost like he was a deer just leaping over players.
Like he made it look effortless.
He made it look easy.
And he's doing great for his team right now, up by 14.
Thank you, Madison.
Hey, you got that rain jacket working?
Is it is it still raining right now?
It just started back up again.
I know it looks ridiculous, but it's it's needed.
It's picking up.
You know what?
You've got the proper gear for a rainy day here at home.
Well, we appreciate it.
Madison as Charleston takes it, 14 to nothing right now here in the second quarter of the three way state championship game.
And and Bobby, really, I mean, it all comes down.
Boonville has had their chances.
They've they've had momentum, they've had drives.
But between penalties and negative plays, it's kind of killed their drives and it's been the ground game we've talked about may force Charleston to run the football.
The Tigers are taking advantage of it.
You look at it 147 yards on 14 carries.
I'm the math major.
That's ten and a half yards per carry.
I mean, that's that's too much for Boonville.
So they're going to have to move an extra guy into the box and try to force Charleston to do something other than run the football.
That's that's not a winning recipe right now for the Burkhead defense Goff's got it off the kick off his he'll take it out pass the 20 up to the 24 yard line and that's where Boone will have it first and ten with 506 to play in the second quarter.
And there's still a lot of time left.
I mean, we've got 29 minutes of game time.
Boonville doesn't have to change anything.
They don't have to come out in the spread.
All it's going to take is one play poppin.
And they've seen obviously number of big plays throughout the season.
So Boonville is going to rely on Cody Elliott and DAX Goff.
Does that run game and try to wear this Charleston defense?
Now they have one.
So 5 minutes, 6 seconds remaining here in the first half as Tatum's going to be under center, going to hand it to Goff and he has nowhere to go at Charleston defense has come to play.
Is that time on the tackle for Charleston?
It was Roy Hutson.
Yeah.
They're not following the window dressing.
A lot of times if you haven't seen this offense, you see all the moving parts, you follow that you got to follow your keys.
And if you're a lineman, if you're one of those linebackers, you're watching the guards.
Because more times not the guards are going to take you to the football.
And you mentioned they're right there.
Nice job by Roy Hudson to make the play.
And again, Boonville is already behind the chains.
Second and long one yard lost that time as they're going to hand it off straight up the middle and the fullback has nowhere to go.
Cody Elliott loses another yard have Dale Smith this gobbles him up and he is playing on both sides of the center.
He is essentially playing to gaps.
The big 78 right in the middle of Charleston defense.
You know, when you've got a lineman who can do that against an offense like this, it makes your job so much easier as a linebacker because you don't have to worry about those eight gas bowl shoulders and that center.
He can play a little more free, play a little more aggressive.
Well, they didn't put heights in the weights on these rosters, but 78 is what you call over in their part of the world.
Is a big old boy, beefeater.
Yes, it's third down.
They're going to pitch it right side to Goff.
And he has nowhere to go.
Coming up to make the stop that time for Charleston, that was Wiley Carroll.
We talked about the size that golf has.
Wiley Carroll didn't matter because he almost the straight one WWF style on him and great stop and again three straight rushing attempts minus one yard there for Boonville, the Bearcat offense, with the exception of the one drive that was stopped because the penalty is going in the wrong direction with that.
I mean, that is that is what you call muscle and meat right there.
That is all muscle.
There's a guy who used to fill a jersey about like that.
Did he get some much deserved airtime?
So out to punt here's Goff as he'll put it over to the left side and bobbling at that time Mariska Maresca lost the handle on it and it was recovered back with the 40 yard line by.
Kendricks It's a great heads up play there by Bryson Kendricks and that time it actually pays off that Charleston had two guys back on the punt return unit.
Of course, they tried the trick play, but they're Kendricks, not Johnny on the spot.
He makes a great play on the fake punt and now comes over and saves a near disaster for the Tigers by pouncing on that not most punt as Madison said, the rain is starting to come down here and, you know, looking up into the sky in that that the raindrop will hit you in the eyes.
You often wonder if that had anything to do with the trying to field that punt.
Here comes Charleston.
They're going to hand it to KETTER on the end of round.
Ketter gets out past the 50 yard line, picks up the first down and more, gets it out to the 47 yard line.
That's Brighton Carter.
We've already seen Brevin, his twin brother, rack up 100 yards and this time they go to Brighton.
His second career didn't have a lot of carries on the season, just seven on the on the year coming into it.
But that time a big gain.
And now again, Charleston on the Booneville side of the 51st and ten four wide receivers in the formation out of the pistol with KETTER behind Scott Scott's going to look to throw Scott at as a man but he one hops him trying to hook up that time with Reece Maresca and then they'll stop the clock with 230 left here in the second quarter, you can kind of see the route concept there for Charles.
So they were trying those over route, so those two are all deeper crossing.
Ross said Melbourne had a lot of success with the Jets Booneville that time but nice job by the Burkhead defense the thought that one for why the formation for man front goes Booneville Scott's to keep himself straight up the middle and he's able to get about three yards on a play to bring up third down I think we've already seen that Charleston's not afraid to roll the dice in this one.
So you might call this four down territory in third and call it seven, maybe short a long six.
But you're on the plus side of the 50.
You've got a 14 nothing league clock starting to wind down.
Maybe you take the risk if you don't pick up the first down here on third down to 2 minutes to play here in.
The second quarter, Charleston leads Booneville 14 to nothing as Scott will have four wide receivers.
He's going to look to throw walks in back left side.
He gets it out past the 40 yard line that time hooking up with this one.
It was really his running back slash wide receiver.
That's Brighton Ketter and it'll be short of the first down to bring up a fourth down.
Yeah.
Looking at about forcing three and a half.
RJ But no hesitation there.
The Charleston offense stays on the field are quickly on the football.
He gets out of bounds at the 39.
It's fourth down and two from the 39 because Scott's going to work out of the pistol with Carter behind him and look back to that Charleston sideline and get the play clock down to five.
And then we're off the bird in time out and they are going to do that with a minute 45 left here in the first half as Charleston leads 14 to nothing over Booneville.
Bobby, is there anything so far here in the first half that's going to surprise you with this one?
I think the fact that Charleston's been able to have so much success running the football, 16 carries 162 yards and there haven't been met with no resistance.
They've hit a lot of big plays and any time they've needed one.
So these type situations, the fourth and threes, the third and fives, they've come up with the big play.
And obviously Coach Ricky May decided I'm not I didn't show up to be runner up.
We've already seen a reverse on a punt.
We've already seen the fake punt now.
So they're all going to leave it out there.
But I think that Boonville has got to get a big stop here.
They don't have to necessarily get a stop and go down and score.
There's a lot of time left.
But the final 145 here for Boonville is huge because I don't think you give up another score and fall down three touchdowns.
You know, we talked about in the pre game, these two teams met back on October the 21st and Charleston won 4214 that game.
But there were eight starters for Boonville out in that one.
And I you're seeing the more competitive game right now with with those starters back again it may not say on the score but it's not a run away in favor of Charleston.
So it's fourth down and two with the ball to 39.
That'll bring Maresca in motion.
Now he'll keep it.
He walks around the right side, spin getting the first down.
He was back behind the chains, got that spin move and it got it down to the 36 yard line.
Yeah, there's a lot of pre-snap motion there on both sides of the ball center talking about receivers and all it was was a quarterback sweep.
You get a couple of receivers out, you got your running back the lead the way and they get just enough to move the chains.
And again, Charleston does just enough on the ground to keep their offense on the field.
So a new set of downs for Charleston as the rolls at 135 for wide in the formation Scott going to look to throw again has a man out at the 30 that's KETTER once again and he'll be knocked out of bounds at the 29 just a simple quick out here out there six seven yards put your foot in the ground and nice delivery.
Throw by Scott and Charleston's in front of the chains.
You know, Ketter came in the game 42 receptions for 552 yards with nine touchdowns issued.
So it's second down and three the 29 all white outs in the formation.
As Ketter is going to line up to the right of Brandon Scott, Scott's going to look to throw now rolls right side under pressure looking to throw and he's going to throw it away Really good decision making by Scott he doesn't try to force it.
He doesn't hold the ball too long he understands when the pocket starting to break down and that's the second time we've seen him on the far sideline, the Booneville sideline, to smartly throw it away and live to fight another down.
So that brings up third down and three as the clock stops at 116, you know, total yards in this game.
Bobby Charleston has 231 yards of total offense.
Booneville only 51 so far in that came on the one drive that was ended up stalling out because of penalties.
And so the Charleston defense has had the answer for most of the postseason and they've had it for obviously the first half tonight.
Third down this time goes over to Kattar.
Kattar stays on his feet out past the 20 and he picks up another first down the doing just enough and that time they get outside leverage just a little quick toss out of the shotgun and they get to the outside and try to make a play one on one do enough and now they're in the red zone again.
Clock will start once they get the chains set as it's first down and ten, the ball spotting at the 18 yard line.
So Charleston obviously not going to get in any hurry.
Two timeouts left inside a minute.
Three receivers on the right side as kettle going motion to the left.
Scott's going to run it as a running lane.
I'll pass a five diving for the end zone and he'll be down at the half yard line.
We've seen it time and time again in this first half boom.
Bulls in position to make a play one on one in the open field in Charleston to making the play to either make that tackler miss or fall forward for an extra yard or two.
But this time, Scott, this leaves the defender in his dust and now it's first and goal inside the one.
And now if you're Charleston, you can pretty much let this thing down with it with at the half yard line and try to punch it.
If you don't get it, you can call a timeout and try to run it again.
I would say you snap this with about 20 and they go 24 has hit the max.
Have Scott's going to run it in and they're going to extend their lead to 20 to nothing really impressive with not only with the way the offensive line for Charleston has blocked up the Booneville front, but what Scott can do with the football at his hands, we knew that he was a really quarterback 2500 yards.
But I think the 740 yards rushing he had into the contest probably a little undervalued because he didn't play in a lot of second halves.
They blew a lot of teams out this year really impressive all at the quarterback can do with his legs right and ketterer going to be on for the extra point kick is up and it is good and it's 21 to nothing with 21 seconds remaining here in the first half and now you know, I mean, look, I don't want to keep reverting to the past, but with the way the score was as lopsided, it was back in October, Charleston saying, hey, look, we're able to do it.
And they got their eight starters right now.
Yeah.
So so everybody's talked about okay the for the regular season didn't matter because Booneville didn't have all these players.
Well, Charleston heard that, too.
And they said, you know what does matter?
The regular season does matter.
We were the one seed for a reason and they're coming out and show it in this first half.
They've been the more physical team.
They've been them in the more dynamic team and they've been the more gutsy team, obviously with the trick plays.
And so everything they've done talking about Charleston has come up roses and that's why they've got a 21 lead as we're here sitting with 21 seconds left in the first half.
And not only that, but that one handed catch on the trick play that was kind of a back breaker of the first half.
Yep.
Because it's seven nothing at that point.
And Boonville, who had a successful drive the previous time out before the penalties, thought they're going to get the football back, maybe we get a chance to go down and tie the game instead.
What turns into seven?
Nothing with you having the ball.
You're down 14, nothing.
And things are starting to snowball.
Don't forget coming up.
Coming up at the half Madison Fitzpatrick going to check in with Ricky Maye, the head coach of the Charleston Tigers.
So Brian Ketter on the kick for Charleston praise song, Cody Elliott and DAX Goff back deep.
And it's going to be taken by Goff at the three yard line Goff out pass the 20 And that's where now looks like there's gonna be a yeah it looks like the official say there was a fumble and there was golf fumble as he was going to the ground and now Charleston with 17 seconds left they've got the 20 yard line.
That's the one thing you couldn't have happened.
If you're Booneville, you're already down three scores trying to do too much in the return game.
And the ball looks clearly out before he goes to the ground.
The replay here in the stadium and now the Tigers again with both time out, 17 seconds left, they've got a chance to add to their already three score advantage.
Here's the replay of that as Goff had tucked in right there.
That's when he lost it got pulled out and Charleston jumped on it at the 20 yard line.
I believe getting the fumble was reasonable.
Maresca So now Scott's going to look to throw Scott going big ball right side has a man Touchdown coming up with the reception It was Brian Ketter they tried to throw back earlier and Herrera did a nice job for Booneville to close back, but that time they roll Scott out to the left and they don't stick with the receiver.
KETTER And he gets behind him on the throw back and the tigers go Touchdown turnover touchdown just like that.
And that is an absolute back breaker for this Booneville squad.
Yeah that that takes the count to 27 and nothing is better is going to be on for the extra point the extra point is up and it is good and 14 scored within about 11 seconds.
Yeah.
28 spot in the second quarter.
These two I mean of course the first round for Charleston ended in the end a red zone stop, a fourth down and one at about the ten yard line.
So Charleston hasn't been stopped, really, the entire contest, their offense is has been moving up and down the field, 280 yards of offense, to be exact, for the Tigers.
I mean, they're showing while they go through the undefeated season, the three eight conference and the playoffs, and they've only given up 12 points.
So a lot of people that are opponents of that rise and Prescott game, anybody thought Prescott was going to be the favorite watching this team for a half.
It gets a squad like Booneville.
It's hard to believe that anybody thought that maybe this Charleston team wasn't the best team in the state.
I mean, Charleston is they are they're they're showing their will right now with 10 seconds remaining here in the quarter.
They lead it 28 to nothing.
And you can just see the sideline for Boonville.
They just look they look shocked.
Yeah.
That that that sequence and you mentioned that 11 seconds or whatever it was is crippling.
I mean, it's 14 minutes and this game is right there for the taking.
They had a chance for a third down, maybe even a fourth down on that previous drive.
They don't get to stop.
They don't make the play in the open space.
You give up a score and then the fumble on special teams.
Special teams is meant so slanted one way.
And talking about the Charleston away in this contest and when you get to a state championship, those little things matter.
And obviously Charleston is doing everything right, golf.
Elliott And back deep and this one's going to be caught the two by golf they'll bring it up and pass the ten stays his feet and his up ended at the 16 yard line.
And there's 5 seconds remaining here in the first half.
And if your bone was price, take a knee and go talk about this one.
Yeah.
I mean, you can't get to the locker room fast, to be quite honest.
I mean, they've scored 28 points and a half, probably a dozen times this year.
So this is not insurmountable.
But they've got to get to the locker room.
They've got to make some adjustments first defensively to slow down this Charleston attack.
But they've got to find a way to get the run game going there.
They have been shut down in the first half like few teams have been able to do to this team in the last decade, let alone this season.
Will's going to line it up with Elliott as the lead back in the backfield and hand it to Elliott straight up the middle.
A little bit of a running line out to the 25 picks up nine yards and that's going to do it for the first half clock.
We're Charleston.
They lead 28 to nothing and we'll wait on Madison Fitzpatrick to catch up with Boonville or excuse me with Charleston head coach Ricky May.
And she's looking for Coach Maye right now.
Let's find a Coach May and Madison's got Coach Main.
Yeah.
Get everybody set up.
Let's see here.
She's just waiting on coach made it to make he's he's being congratulated by everybody on the sidelines and Madison's with coach main now take it away.
All right.
28 points.
Fantastic first half.
What are you liking out of your guys so far playing her butt off?
I mean, just play in their butt off and so can't ask for more.
They're just they're just playing.
What are you going to tell them during halftime to kind of keep the momentum going?
We got to score one more time to sort them all.
Tell them we're going to go one more time, get the ball start quarter.
That's over.
Their goal is awesome.
Good luck, coach.
Thank you.
Thank you, guys.
Thank you, Madison.
You got to score one more time because you know what happens to school more to sportsmanship rule say that 35 points and that's that's obviously so important you're talking about you get the football first you got a chance to get that running clock and then you start the celebration.
Well, we're at the half where Charleston leads Booneville, 28, nothing.
You're watching the Centennial Bank State Football Championships on Arkansas.
PBS Sports.

David Basil.
Here it is.
Halftime again at War Memorial.
That means we have a little more time to share with you some of the things we've been working on here at Arkansas PBS.
Coming up, Leon is going to catch you up on some of the really cool stuff going on here at Arkansas PBS.
Then Ashley King is going to introduce you to some student athletes who are bringing both on the field and in the classroom.
And we'll visit with one of the coolest and nicest guys you could ever meet, superfan and Sandy.
But first years ago, a young kid in the Delta went from the football field in Clairton to the SCC and then to the NFL.
Now his journey brings him back to the field where it all started.
This time as a coach.
Take a look.
When I came to play and I was like, that was like a great person to walk these halls and it actually had a chance to go to college from Ozzie accused the alleged Desmond come out of me and that's actually what encouraged me to be a running back.
It was said he had the most rushing yards.
He scored the most to that.
So so now that he's come to me I'm going to try to be right when I heard like allegedly said accused from playing at a high school a smaller town I actually know for why in the world he said used to come about the Klan in Arkansas.
It's a small town.
He was away from here.
My name is Cedric Houston from Clarendon, Arkansas.
Growing up here was probably the funniest man just going out and we didn't have much to do, but we walked around town, play pickup, basketball or baseball wherever we can do that and picked up football.
Around the seventh grade I started playing and a lot of people told me I was pretty good.
I didn't know if I was good or not, but we played Barden.
I think I was an eighth grader, and Frank McClellan pulled me to the side after the game.
I think he's like, Here, you going to play professional football one day?
And he'll I didn't know pheasant football NFL was like, What do you mean, professional?
He's like, going to play in the NFL one day.
So I kind of brushed it off.
I was like, Oh, man, I'm already talking.
Well, and then he reminded me again my my senior season when they played us, he said, You remember I told you in eighth grade this is going to be playing pro ball one day.
He said, You're getting a whole lot closer.
And I was like, Yes, sir.
And we both smiled and walked off, hand off against Cedric Houston.
Running left Houston sophomore, junior and senior year.
I started.
So I started for three years at the University of Tennessee.
I finished fifth on the Tennessee rushing list, so I was a fifth all time in Tennessee.
Wrestling history was a which was a huge accomplishment.
So during my senior year, I was always tired.
Like I do a few plays.
I was like, coach, and I'm tired.
He's like, Would you tired for your in tip top shape?
I was like, Man, I'm tired.
And I mean, I didn't know what it was for from then.
After that, I got invited to the NFL combine and they did blood work on me there and they found out I had a hypothyroid.
So before that I had a prior draft.
Great surprise, second run.
I probably would be a second rounder, early third rounder.
Then after that, my agent was like, man said, I don't know who's going to take a chance on you, who's gonna draft you if you get drafted.
So we didn't know until come back.
We didn't know if I was getting drafted not and we didn't know how serious the thyroid condition was or what I had to do for it.
The just took a chance on me and I went six round to the New York Jets over three yards out and great to me.
I think he just wanted to come back to his hometown where he gave his experience to other players so they could try to make it to one, two, three, that he knows what it what it takes to get that.
So I feel like is a good event coming up playing football and having great coaches through high school and then having great coaches to college makes you be a better man.
I knew I want to eventually get into coaching and influence and kids to just go young.
Just being in this area and some guys not having father figures in their lives, you got these coaches around that's doing the right things.
And in May not saying big, but that's huge for guys in this delta and just from these areas, he he's basically a good running back.
But like like a father figure to me, he teaches you right from wrong if you ain't doing your work.
I hear points inside and tell you what to like, help you out when you get to know.
Said he's actually a good person.
He knows how to do his job.
Not saying keep keep smiling.
Everybody says hey you stayed going to like he's a good old person for playing.
Don't tell them I said that what a great story.
Exciting things in the future there in Clarendon.
Let's turn now to the student athlete with emphasis on the student part.
Ashley, what do you have for us?
Thanks, David.
Yes, once again, this year we reached out to schools across the state of Arkansas to find out about those athletes who not only excel on the field, but in the classroom.
Here's the Arkansas PBS student, All Stars, class of 2022.

We might see some of those faces again in April right here in this very studio for quiz bowl.
Make a mental note to watch Quiz Bowl this year.
Some of the sharpest high school students in the state meet up right here in square off not only for bragging rights, but for some pretty big checks, too.
And it is live right here on Arkansas PBS.
Now, Ed, speaking of what is on Arkansas PBS, there are some more things that you want to fill us in on, right?
Yeah, well, I have a few things, actually.
We've got a lot going on here at Arkansas PBS.
You've seen a lot of football today and got basketball state finals right around the corner in March.
And then there's baseball and softball in May.
And this year, we added volleyball back in October.
Now, why?
Why is Arkansas PBS doing sports?
Well, to us and to the student athletes and their families?
It's a lot more than just sports.
Take a look at the final game world championship weekend here in Hot Springs.
It's a sold out crowd.
Here we go.
Tip off a set back with a right hand tie ball game.
When you to wake up don't wake up when the season over has swung on Look at high right field He's going back to the warning track.
It's out of here.
I can kind of look at people and tell if they doubt me.
You know, you can kind of see their entire expression kind of change, right when you make it.
The sun is setting and Zeleny County and we've got for a baseball titles on the line rooster gives it off right side ten five left to go touchdown.
It is so important to this state and the fabric of the state and appreciate Arkansas PBS doing all the state title games and I can only think of the kids in small towns.
And this is the biggest moment maybe in their sports careers.
And they have that keepsake of having that game on TV to have with them the rest of their lives.
The set tapped over and the big Panthers of the 2022 state champions.
You know, we are your Arkansas PBS.
These sports broadcasts give us a lens through which we can tell stories of inspiration, stories of determination.
Your stories, Arkansas stories.
Take a look.
And don't celebrate in sorrow.
An Arkansas adventure like never before.

And I hope there's a lot of good stuff.
I hope they see, I learn and I'm this until I die tomorrow.
And welcome to Talking Country to brag.
Sam was known on the West Coast as the Arkansas Wall.
I see you amazing create as an entrepreneur begin today inspiration and see how they let it shine into the world.
It's a microphone where you can do a little, little song for us oh, the cold many colors which what you put you pick in my coat of many colors just but own right beautiful form of art, you know, you got to taste and you got, ah, this ain't going to be around much longer.

All right.
I think we've got time for one more story.
Bass.
Yes, we do add matter of fact, this story is very close to my heart, Caitlin.
Sandi has risen from humble beginnings in a small Arkansas town of Cave City to be named to the ESPN Fan Hall of Fame.
Take a look.
As you can tell, the band's name is Sandi.
Three, two, one who is came in insane for Big Three visit back the whole chain and he's he's just a champion there's a 100 miles an hour wherever he is.
You know, his enthusiasm, contagious cadence, personality is way bigger than Kenny.
That just kind of made him one time and, you know.
And the rest of your life.
Yeah.
Arkansas is all about the Razorbacks.
There's nothing else if you're in Arkansas and you're a sports fan here for the Razorbacks, they say that back when he was three months, Ole took him to the Razorback game.
Three weeks later, he had to have open heart surgery.
The problem, not any illness or birth defect that he didn't have to conquer it one way or another.
He was born with this day in his heart.
He was born with an intestinal blockage and was born deaf.
There was none that gave us no hope that we were going to get the keeping.
They all fought for him, just like he was going to be a superstar.
One that is baboon.
I got I got big hammy excitement I here it is my all time.
This is a copy of the picture that is in ESPN courtyard in Bristol, Connecticut, the ESPN Hall of Fame that, hey, we weren't surprised at all.
Soon as they come out with a fan Hall of Fame, what bigger fan is there than Cain and Sandi of the Arkansas Razorback?
Good, bad, ugly.
It didn't matter.
He's always there, always cheering.
I love the Hall of Famer, and it is based on the two most famous people in Cave City, or Ricky Medlock, who played for the Razorbacks.
And then even more famous is Cain is seen.
They had called us and said, we want CONAN to do we're going to do a two point conversion and Cain is going to run the ball and everything.
We're standing on the sideline.
All of a sudden, news crews start running and they go, What's going on?
They said Coach Baylor has decided he wants a 50 yard touchdown with Cain, that they go running.
Only thing I hear is one of the sides give kind of the ball to shove it in his hand.
They said, don't you dare drop this ball in front of 30,000 people when he throws for.
Oh, yes, it's the thing that's good.
Let's do this.
Do it.
I love this.
This is important.
Cain in an ambulance when when the Gulf the dreaded gallstone.
He called me.
He said, mom, I don't feel good.
And he was in the bathroom.
And I said, Well, let's get to the couch and get him to the oh, breathing.
It's turned to completely blue.
He fell over on the couch and his eyes just fixed and I just panicked.
I think it really resonated to her that, you know, how fragile his health was.
They've just everything together.
And they had thought for each other in so many ways.
And we went through rehab and and things.
So we're probably got back what we're going to get back, but it's good enough.
Hey, so Cain and I always followed all the commands and it was like one one week we said, Hey, so-and-so is Friday night a football game, let's go and watch him play.
He wants to see those guys come by Razorback.
And I promise you, that has made an impact.
And I mean that special.
I don't know anybody else that knows that in the country he's back and forth force.
He sure is.
That's like saying he's love.
You know, Cannon loves people and we love Cain and his most honest, outgoing, loving person I guess I've ever seen.
He impacts so many people's lives.
It's a great example of what one person can do, give him say, oh, he can bring so much joy to the people across the state of Arkansas is I mean, it's immeasurable what that means.
Hey, say Cannon is the product of other people's.
Hey, hey, hey, dad.
That the people of Arkansas have retaliated with their love and they're the ones that have made came his famous cannon didn't do it I did do they made Cannon famous because they just poured their love into him.
It's because they're so good and they just open their hearts to.
It is amazing to me how much traveling that ginger and cane and sandy do in state and out of state.
That's right.
They go watch recruits in high school games.
Of course, all of the Razorback games.
It's incredible.
Yeah.
What a great story, by the way.
It's like more than a sports story that is a that's a human story.
Those are great people.
Yeah.
Cain has got the biggest heart, the world.
He's a lot more Cain and Sandy's, for sure.
Well, that's it for us on the halftime show.
Thanks for watching.
Now let's get you back to war Memorial Stadium for the second half action right here on the home of the high school football state finals, Arkansas PBS, the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas.
Over 2500 team members across 17 local electric distribution co-ops powering homes, farms and industry.
Somewhere across Arkansas, we are the Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas power and people.
Well, back here at War Memorial Stadium, as Charleston leads the three eight title game 28 to nothing over Boonville as they've made their way back on the field and Boonville starting to make their way back out.
Bobby And really for the second half, it's it's an uphill battle right now for the Boonville Bearcats.
It really is.
And it all starts with the simple things they've got to win first down and then too many times they've faced themselves second, 11, third, and well, this is not a team that's built to come back from huge deficits like this, but but it all starts with first.
Defensively, Charleston is going to start to get the football to start the second half because we talked about it right before the break.
If Charleston goes down and scores like they've done on four of their five drives tonight, it's lights out because the sportsmanship rule is going to be invoked.
How big that turnover that we saw back over here at the 30 yard line that you know, we talked about how it was a back breaker on the trick play, on the punt, but really going into halftime with 20 seconds left, that is a huge momentum swing.
It is because I mean, not only captain obvious for a second 21, nothing is not insurmountable.
28 nothing is a large mountain to climb.
And now they're going to try to start to get their way back.
And Coach Scott obviously had to say some motivating words to his team at the half.
Well, speaking of Doc Crowley, Madison Fitzpatrick is down the field and she's got the Boonville head coach standing by right now.
Madison.
All right, coach, what do you want to see differently out of your guys in the second half?
We've just got to get off the field.
You know, on defense, that fake punt there, you know, it's seven nothing and I made a heck of a catch.
And, you know, I feel like if we get the ball back there and maybe put a drive together, go in a half, seven, seven, it'd be a different game right now, but we just got to come out and fight here for 24 more minutes to get after what was kind of the message in the locker room.
Was it just keep fighting?
You know, we just got to get off the field.
If we can get on the field and keep our offense on the field, we'll be in good shape.
Thanks, coach.
Good luck back to you.
Thank you, Madison.
And that was head coach Doc Crowley for the Boonville Bearcats as his team, they trail now 28 to nothing over over Charleston.
And let's go ahead and take a look at the first half stats for this one.
And really, it was really one sided.
Charleston just had their way in almost every category.
We expected a lopsided rushing total.
We didn't expect it to be on that side of the graphic, though.
But what Charles was able to do running the football and it's all starts with our quarterback Brandon Scott and of course, Brevin Kanter had the big 50 yarder in that first half, but they've been able to completely to shut down Bhumibol's running game and nine of those 60 yards came on the last play of the half.
And so, I mean, the Charleston defense, which is given up only 12 points in the postseason, including two shutouts allowed more than six points in a game in the last six weeks.
I mean, they're playing as dominating as advertised.
I think the biggest thing for Boonville, one, two, five on third down right now.
Well, in a lot of those, I wish we had the stat and maybe we do.
I haven't looked at it, but the average distance on third down, they're not okay.
They're not getting stuffed on third and three.
It's been 13, 12, 13, 13.
One time they had third and 25 because of a penalty.
They've been behind the chains the entire game.
And again, I hate to beat a dead horse like this, but this is a team that's not built like that.
They're not going to drop back and throw the football.
They've attempted 27 passes all season long and they're not going to change who they are here in the state championship game.
So when they're in those third and long situations, it's their playbook is very, very limited.
And, you know, it's not just been at certain points, it's been throughout the entire game.
They've made life tough on themselves because, you know, there's only three penalties.
But those three penalties that Boonville got, those were big penalties.
Yeah, they're down seven nothing.
They're driving.
They're all the way to Charleston, 40 yard line.
They think of the unsportsmanlike conduct and then they get a false start.
And all of a sudden, instead of third and ten, it's third and 30, and all of sudden they're pulling away.
And now Charleston's got all the momentum.
Well, and the bigger thing here to start the second half, Charleston.
Charleston is going to get the football back to start the half.
Yeah, it all starts defensively on this drive.
If you're Boonville and you want to try to extend this game, you've got to find a way to get a stop and get a quick stop.
And as coach Scott Kroger said, you got to find a way to get off the field.
You get a quick three and out and get your offense to a short field.
You put the ball in the end zone, you get your fans who've had to wait around all day because obviously the delay of the game started late to get those guys excited about something.
And maybe you get a little momentum and maybe you get back in this contest.
Well, you see, Charleston is playing everybody closer to the line of scrimmage.
They've only got one guy back to receive this kick and it's Brian Ketter.
And so we'll see how this goes to start.
The second half is they'll put a boot into it and KETTER is going to take it down at the 19 yard line.
It will bring it up and pass the 25.
He'll be knocked out of bounds right there.
And so that's where Charleston will have it first and ten as we start the second half.
Now, we'll see what kind of adjustment Boonville is going to make.
We saw them kind of switch to a four down lineman defensive front there late.
Didn't really make a lot of difference.
We'll see if they start to create more guys into the box on this possession or they stick with the, you know, spreading out the defense and try to win one on one matchups in the box.
So it's first and ten ball at the 28 yard line and they'll go five wide to start this first drive in the second half as just a handoff straight or a handoff straight up to the 30 yard line, two yard gain for Charleston on their first drive of the second half.
Yeah it's just the clock started there for Charleston to simple quarterback draw but that time Boonville did a nice job they bring a little pressure.
They close on the quarterback.
They converge five and 66 for the Bearcats that's Dunn Daniel and David Hicks to converge on the play five wide once again as Brandon Scott stands alone in the backfield and now we've got whistles and penalties and slot receiver on the near side of the screen got a little head start Tebow I'll start on the offense five yard penalty if I second half that's also frowned upon can't do that can't do that that's they throw laundry the chiefs are doing things like that.
Yes, they do.
Yeah.
So it brings up a now second down and 14 the 25 yard line as there's five wide in the formation, three to the near side just a quick handoff to Maresca and he'll try to get back up may have gained a yard on the play and that'll bring a third down pass the second time.
Johnny Barnes has disrupted that play by the his play on the defensive line.
Again he doesn't get credit for the tackle, but he just takes he's the offensive tackle over the left guard.
And this takes the guard and puts him right in the backfield and throws that play off kilter now its third and long for Charleston yeah third down and 12 from the 26 yard line park rolls at 1050 and counting And Charleston going to bring back out five wide three to the topside side to the bottom as Brandon Scott continues to throw under pressure, steps up in the pocket, gets away from one man going to take off and run at best, the 35 running at the fourth.
He has one blocker gets around him, has the first down and takes it out to the 47 yard line.
That play was the epitome of what the first half was for Boonville defense and Charleston offense.
You see, you've got a chance to make a play.
You've got the quarterback of the ball carrier dead to rights, and all of a sudden he makes you miss an open space and he's out it out the backside.
And a huge scramble and another third down conversion.
Yeah, and that's a big third down conversion that, you know, you talk about back breakers, you think about the ones that we've talked.
But that right there, you think you can get them off the field and they're able to convert and it's now four wide.
They'll go with a tall, sweet basket.
Excuse me.
That's actually Ketter.
And KETTER is going to go out of bounds down at the 50 yard line.
So that play right there, RJ, not the previous one.
Instead of getting the ball, probably at your own 40, maybe better field position after a punt now Charleston's at midfield had a chance to threatening and again the chance to add to their four score lead second down and seven with the ball at the 50 they're going to line up with four wide receivers.
Kennard will be lined up to the right of Scott.
Scott is going to keep it all the way trying to work around.
One defender dives forward for two yard gain That's a great job by Goff the linebacker for Booneville to take on the blocker head on shucks him to a side and the play just beyond the line of scrimmage but again now we got third manageable for Charleston and these are the blaze that the Tigers have won so far.
Boonville has to start winning this down if they're going to get back into the contest.
And honestly, it's probably starts right here.
Brandon Scott, 11 of 18 for 87 yards passing and a touchdown so far in this one he'll line up with third down and a long four with the ball at the 47 yard line takes the snap under pressure trying to set up the screen has it off the tunnel and he got tackled by his own guy and tried to set the long screen.
And now we've got a penalty flag down for two.
This is too long to develop that play.
Almost look like they set up a screen to both sides.
It kind of gives you the option of which way you want to go with it.
And neither one of them weren't.
So let's call this third down.
Let's get the call lost and l0 receiver downfield because the offense five yards only three play down.
And to the point Bobby it takes too long to develop and those offensive linemen they start to roll downfield.
And here's a look at it right there as well.
I mean, he just kept dropping.
Dropping, and that's a long throw for a screenplay.
Well, not only that, it's a long way for your offensive lineman to get out there.
And, you know, Roy Hutson is in charge of blocking in that corner.
That's a long way if you're off at the moment, not only to run but to try to make a block.
He doesn't get there in time.
It's blown up in the backfield.
Illegal linemen downfield.
They decline the penalty and it looks we have to say that now it looks like they're going to punt, but obviously faked it earlier.
Yeah.
So Brevin Ketter is going to be on to kick for Charleston and Back Deep will be two players for Booneville and they let it hop and it was taken down and take it at the two yard line.
Coming up with it was Jace Washburn and he had a fall on it.
But that is a terrible by the booth but they're special teams this haven't been the friend of the Bearcats tonight you either have to make the play because it costs you about ten or 12 yards in field position by not catching the punt and then you just have to let it roll in the end zone or at least hope it rolls into the end zone.
Instead, you pick it up at the two yard line.
It looks like it might be bounding into the end zone.
You make a play on it, you're stopped inside your own five, and now you're 98 yards away from your ultimate goal in the opposite end zone.
So Google have it as Peyton Tate.
On being the quarterback working out of his own zone and a hand to the fullback Elliott Elliott gives him a little bit of breathing room out, pass the five to the seven yard line and a four yards on the play and that'll bring up second down and six.
Now for Booneville that's a really good look at it right there.
You see Cody that's supposed to hit right off the center, but you can see everything is kind of washed down.
So the fullback bounces it outside of the tackle and picks up five, officially gave him five yards.
So it's second down and five and we've got whistles and penalty flags as well in a lot of encroachment on the defense.
It's going to be a good defense.
And three play secondary a35 yards in a first down for the beautiful Bearcats.
You got to remember at the high school level, if you line up offsides in the neutral zone, it's automatically blown dead.
It's not like it is in college in the pros, where if they flow off of the goal flag and you get a free play, essentially what mind to see that change at the high school level.
But that's the way above our pay grades.
People in our state, we're talking about a national level.
Yeah a rules for today's football game by the National Federation and now we've got a timeout by the officials.
They're going to come on and measure this one.
They got the five yards, but it's all dependent upon the spot.
And so, you know, you mark it off five yards, depending on the spot and then bring out the chains to make sure they got the five the first down.
So the question was on Elliott's carry a moment ago, did he get five to get 4.9 yards?
And apparently he got five in the first half.
So it's first and ten for Booneville with 8 minutes to play here in the third quarter and why the clock and who's ready to go.
Five guys on the line of scrimmage, first Charleston.
They will just bury the fullback in the backfield that was Goff and golfers just not had anywhere to go all game 2200 yards on the season and you can tell all 11 players for Charleston are focused in on a big 34 when he's got the football in his hands are all flying to him.
They don't set the edge.
He can't bounce it to the outside.
And the rest of the tiger defense rallies around six carries two yards for Goff tonight.
And, you know, the defense has done this where they know how big it is.
And so rather than trying to go square up with him, they're going at the shin Man to take down the big man.
Chop them down.
Here's Elliott.
Right up the middle.
Has nowhere to go.
Got him?
Find a yard, maybe yard.
And a half.
Yeah.
I mean, so this is the advantage now that Charleston has because you win first down defensively and now Booneville is behind the sticks and they've got to play catch up.
So they're going to market right at the original marker.
So it's third down and ten balls yet yet to throw a pass in this game.
Bobby, you said it and they've only thrown 27 for the season.
Got to hand it off.
No, it's going to be Tatum taking it himself.
I'm going to take it out, pass the 15 and get it to around the 18 yard line.
That brings up fourth down and now it's decision time.
It may be way too early and obviously the field position doesn't say go for it.
But when you're down four scores and now a quarter and a half remaining, you've got to think about it.
And obviously, that's exactly what Coach Crowley and Company are doing as he often stays out on the field.
Maybe they try to get Charleston to jump offsides here.
Fourth down and four, reverse go with the reverse this time over to Washburn he's looking to throw those a down field is incomplete trying to hook up that time with trace hall.
You know, I think RJ if if if that's just a straight reverse, he probably has enough real estate in front of you and to run for the first down and said that's a designed reverse pass and so he's got his eyes down the field and not running at full speed looking for the receiver coming across get not enough arm strength to get it there and now Charleston takes over in the red zone are leading 28 nothing and you see it here on the replay.
I mean, he had a lot of space to get for yards because you think he's going to win that race to the sideline and pick up enough for the first down and said the incomplete pass and Charleston's got a chance to essentially put this game away if they get in the end zone.
So four wide receiver said to the near side working out of the pistol is Brandon Scott Scott's going to look to throw and there's a penalty flag down inside the 15 down to the 13 yard line and that's why it came out early.
So maybe illegal formation in elsewhere receiver downfield against the offense five yard penalty 3.5.
So that doesn't automatically mean it's a lineman either.
A lot of time you assume it's a mental illegal man downfield that could have been a receiver was covered up because of the formation and it looked like the outside receiver was also on the line of scrimmage, which would make number nine who made the catch gassnola and an ineligible receiver.
And I think that's what they flagged it for.
So that makes it a first down and 15 as they're going to hand it straight up the middle.
And Kendrick gets about three yards on the play to bring up a second down down.
You know, it is kind of funny how things work out, Bobby, because we've talked so much about how different these two teams are and offensively they are different, but when you look at the numbers on the on the stat sheet, you would think that Charleston was the dominant run team for the game.
It's clear that Charleston is is not only spreading you out, but they're spreading you out to take advantage of a light box and roll and run the football.
Second down toss goes left side.
Kanter gets it out, pass the 15, stays on his feet and jumps into the end zone for the touchdown.
That time it was Brevin Ketter who was able to tie up the sideline and walk into the end zone for a score.
I thought he was going to be taken down at the ten Bobby and he broke out of that tackle.
You just watch it right here.
And he made he got out of that arm tackle and just stayed up and was able to walk in the end zone for the touchdown.
We've seen it a dozen times now.
RJ You have Boonville is in position to make a play and they just can't do it.
And Charleston makes a man miss that leads to a bigger play.
And now we're put away from the sportsmanship rule.
Brighton, Tennessee extra point is up and good.
It's 35.
Nothing.
Charleston over over.

There's a good crowd shot of the Charleston fans as they are happy to see their Tigers right now leading 35 to nothing over Boonville in the three eight state title game.
As Bobby mentioned right before the break, we are now in the sportsmanship rule, and that is when one team gets up by five over another, then the clock will continuously roll unless the timeout called.
Yep.
Change of possession a score?
Yeah.
Things that.
But yeah, it's the second half, it's going to go pretty quickly.
The complete opposite of what everything else has done today.
But yes, you're basically right flashing back to the fourth game earlier, set a record for most points and a half combined.
Here's the kick off and it will bounce at the 14 yard line and it'll be brought up out past the 25.
And it was Trace Hall who brought it up out to the 23.
And that's where Boonville will have it first and ten with 450 left here in the third.
Oh, it's one of these contests, R.J., that is I mean, it's been dominant.
Yeah.
You know, if you want to buy a copy of it, just go to Inman Productions on it.
Place your order and watch it over and over again.
Of course, the Boonville fans may not want to watch this one too many times, but this has been a clinic defensively.
What the Charleston squad has been able to put together the guys over at M&M are going to have to do some massive editing after today with all the delays.
And yeah, to get those DVDs out that that is going to be a lot of cut and paste.
You don't see lot of games that have a three and a half hour weather delay, that's for sure.
Not very often so.
But who will take it out or straight up the middle is that was Elliott and he's able to get four maybe five yards on the play to bring up second down.
But I couldn't hear it at home but I laughed at and they said the entire delay is going to be included in the copy.
Yeah, they feel at home, they hear you laugh and they're like, Well, RJ is really fun.
Yeah.
No, you're not.
Yeah, I've been telling you that for years.
Yes, you have as a second down and five with the ball at the 28 yard line as they're going to hand it off to Goff and golf got a couple there just it at the point of attack the line of scrimmage is not moving and you watch a Boonville game or a wing tee game or a flexible game you're supposed to see that offensive line, move the defensive line at least a yard.
And we're just not seeing any kind of push whatsoever.
The line of scrimmage is just saying still.
And if that's the case, the defense is winning and they're making plays at the line of scrimmage and allowing those linebackers to roam free and make play after play third down and four, they give it to Elliott and has a couple of yards on the playing to bring up fourth down and short.
And you know, one thing, Bobby, we haven't really touched on, but the defensive line for that is a big defensive line.
And and you talk about no push because really the defensive line's getting the push.
Yeah.
Now they're winning up front.
We've called Dale a handful of times.
Hunter little Jacob Hoffman just ran onto the field 66.
And so they've got able bodies up front who are winning at the point of attack.
There's the fourth down attempt as they get it out to the 35 yard line.
That was Elliott.
And he does pick up the first down power play.
And for Boonville, that is the first converted, fourth down of the day.
Yeah, that's just another one of seven on third down up to this point.
And they're just not winning the battles and grant we talk we've already talked about a lot of those third down attempts have been way behind the chains 13, ten, 13, 12.
And then just not advantageous situations for the for the offense handoff to Elliott.
No they pitch it out left side to Hall and Hall's run down at the 41 yard line does pick up five yards on the play.
Yeah, that's a big play from behind by Brian Carter because if he doesn't track down hall from behind, that's off to the races Matt that's a one on one play that he makes from behind.
But if once you see the replay right here, if he doesn't make the tackle, I mean, Hall's probably still running because he's got a lead blocker out front.
So it brings up second down and Tatum's going to keep it himself off the right side, out to the 50 yard line.
So that's for for an offense like this, the big play when of course most teams go to the passing game, that's when you start to run the option.
You start to get those one on one battles on the perimeter because again, like we've seen Charleston do all night of Boonville, can can win one of those one on one situations, break a tackle.
That's when they could get off to the races first down and ten with the ball to 50.
They don't won't be under center with a wing back off either side a fake the handoff to Elliott Tatum and keep it himself He's got a running line out pass the 35 inside the 30 and taken down at the 26 yard line with 138 left in the third quarter.
Boonville has cracked 100 yards of offense.
That's how good the Charleston defense has gone.
But this is by far been the best drive that the Bearcat offense has been put together.
And a lot of it's been based on the quarterback run game with Peyton Tatum and Tatum so far on the day now has 28 yards of total offense as of rushing offense as this wins.
Hall and hall is going to get a nice jump this time on first downs.
He'll take it inside the 23 so it'll be a seven yard pick up that time by Tatum here by hall.
Scuse me.
So 58 now for Elliott, 52 for Tatum.
And the two wing backs the two big play guys, nine for Hall, three for Gulf.
Yeah.
I don't think if you had to on your bingo card that Goff would only have three total yards of offense.
Those two guys have combined for 3500 yards rushing this year and they have 12 before that carries the second down and three with the ball to 19 Tatum goes option right to Goff golf out pass the 15 stays on his feet as he'll be down at the 12th Another first down there and now they're starting to see okay this is where the success can be had we're having zero success up the middle and now try to try the option game and they're having a little more success.
There's a little more space out there to make some plays one on one.
So it's now a first down and ten.
They still pick up the first down as they give it the left side to Elliott and Elliott gets it down to the six, and that should do it for the third quarter of play.
So three quarters are on the books as the Charleston Tigers are looking to win a three state championship game and they lead it 35 to nothing.

Well, back here on the ball, how did we get to this point of 35?
Nothing.
Charleston Well, it all started with the bourbon gator, six yard touchdown run to make it seven or nothing.
Then the fake punt.
This was really the back breaker for Boone boys.
The one handed catch will always be remembered by Kendricks in the touchdown run by Scott from 22 yards down.
He was able to hop, skip and jump into the end zone.
Then the one yarder to make it 21 to nothing.
It was all Charleston in the first half.
Brandon Scott to brighten career from 28 yards to make it 28 to nothing I mean there's the crowd you can see them they are happy is large right now Boonville They just kept getting stuff by this defense.
This defense has been really, really good tonight and that's really why you've got it.
35 to nothing but Boonville right now has a chance to put this one in the end zone and get on the scoreboard as we get ready to start the fourth quarter here at War Memorial Stadium, our Jayhawk along with Bobby Swafford and down the sideline Madison Fitzpatrick is here's a run out pass the five yard line as he'll take it to the three and that was Elliott once again and just again if you're not familiar with the sportsmanship rule, you're going to see that clock ticked down really quickly as it will not stop unless there's a score or change of possession or a timeout here in the fourth quarter.
So Charleston comfortably out 35, nothing.
All the bearkats knocking on the door and they can still pick up a first down by getting to the one yard line.
It's third down and two straight.
Did t look as Tatum got handed the golf and he'll walk in the end zone for the touchdown.
Yeah golf is on the board and Boonville is on the board for rushing touchdown number 28 on the season for next golf He's just a junior when there's a lot of these names that are going to be back for the Bearcats and they're going to lose Cody Elliott they're going to lose the quarterback and and trace all.
But when you've got a 2000 yard rusher coming back, there's plenty to be excited about.
And of course the tradition never runs out.
And Boonville, the Bearcats is certainly going to be back.
The extra point is blocked and going in to make the block it was Maresca was it Maresca does it.
Oh yeah.
He, he's doing everything in this one.
So It's 35 to 6.
Charleston leads Boonville.

You want to relive all the big moments from the championship?
You can do it all next week.
Just go to YouTube.com sites, Arkansas, PBS, all the way from the seven day state championship down to the eight.
Man, you got to watch them all.
Had a chance to catch up with some of the action from last week on YouTube.
This week, of course, four and three will be on there on Monday.
And that's how I get to keep my job, because Bobby goes back and watches it.
Absolutely.
He wears you are messed up.
If you don't watch the tape, how are you going to get better?
How are you to get better?
You're exactly right.
As it's 35 to 6, Charleston leads Booneville as we're in the fourth quarter 1121 to play and the it's all about the onside kick but then the official said I'm gonna throw some laundry out there to prevent that white hats down the end zone going, huh?
So the flag came out before they even approached the football nobody moved.
I think it might have actually been illegal formation on the kicking team because you're only allowed to have so many players, I believe, except for the side of the football.
Yeah.
And they had seven on the opposite side of the football which would make it an illegal formation.
Something that your day.
Yeah.
Not on the kicking, not a rules expert but that's what I'm pretty much coming out of that one was.
It sounds good.
I may not be all right I'm going with it.
I said it confidently.
So you believe me, right?
I believed you.
I didn't hear it from the official.
And here's the onside kick.
It's recovered and Charleston will have it inside the 45 yard line down to the 44.
Hey, want to say hello to my buddy John Eubanks, who is the state representative for both these schools and he's watching back in Paris, Arkansas, and watching both these two teams do battle tonight.
He sent a text and got seeing a lot of folks up here throw up state championships.
So it's first down and ten with the ball to 44 yard line.
Brandon Scott those tall sweep right side that's over to Jones and Jones will take it down to the 42 yard line.
Well, just watching this too, and I know it hasn't gone their way, but watching 34 play on both sides of the football, talking about Dak's Gulf, he chases down from behind.
There's no give up in him.
And, you know, he's he's going to be an all star performer.
I know it hasn't officially been announced, but I can go and guarantee he's going to be there.
But I mean, just a lateral movement and his playmaking ability is is really impressive.
I mean, he's going to be a Saturday player.
There's no doubt about that.
No doubt.
Second down and seven right handed off left side and into the hands of Maresca.
Maresca down to the 40 yard line, pick up a three yard partnership, a third down.
And oh, I'm not going to mention in the first half we took a visit to Kansas State.
So he's getting some looks.
His golf, as you can see him, he tracks it down here and squeeze him up makes the play well it's the cavalry help take him to the grounds but you know with his size, he could probably get offers to go to, you know, play on the defensive side or the offensive side.
So that's going to be the question.
I mean, because I think I mean, you don't rush for 2000 yards without having obviously vision and talent.
He may have the option and it may also ultimately come down to where he wants to play football, whether on what side of the ball he wants to play on or wider than their side.
And we've got some more laundry as there is a delay, a game on Charleston and that'll back him up five yards.
That ball delay a game he gets the five yard penalty by third down.
So it's a third down and it's going to make it 11 yards for Charleston, four wide to the near side, tall sweep comes to the near side, that is Kadar.
And Carter gets it back to the 45.
Want to get a yard on the play?
It's a fourth down.
That's one of the few times we've seen Booneville win the race to the outside.
You know, they weren't able to set the edge.
Were they able to to retreat and actually get out there and force that one back inside?
More times than not, Charleston has gotten to the sideline, which ultimately leads to big plays.
That's Boonville does a nice job of of redirecting it now fourth and long and we'll see if Charleston does trot out the punting court so they are carriers going to line up to punt this all went away and he could really he could pin Boonville back they are going to send two guys back so back deep for Boonville will be trace hall as well as Washburn and.
Washburn is going to let it go in the end zone for the touchback.
And so looking at the 20 yard line, let's head down to Madison Fitzpatrick on the sideline.
Madison, the weather finally towards the end, this one has decided to go away.
But now how's it down there on the field right now?
The weather is finally it's crisp.
It's not too bad at all.
It's it's definitely not hot.
And Charleston, I mean, they are just playing incredible.
I know we talk about the defense a lot, but their defense is absolutely unstoppable.
As we talked about, they only gave up 30 points over the past six or seven weeks.
They just fly to that football and they don't really make mistakes.
And one of the things that I love that their coach, Ricky Maye, said, he said they just love to hit people and they make back tackles.
That's what he called it.
And they're making back rock tackles here today.
It was a good run by Tate, the quarterback for Boonville Back Cracked tackles.
I like that Boonville starting to have a little success with the option game and of course you know hindsight's 2020 they're going to go back and watch this film and realize if they were to go on to the more of the perimeter option attack earlier in the contest, maybe things were completely different.
So it's first and ten from the 40 yard line option goes right side Goff's got it, he's got running lanes and they always going to touch it.
He's going to pick up a chunk of yards.
He's going to walk the dog into the end zone for the touchdown 60 just like that.
RJ, I mean, that's how quick this offense.
You don't think of it being a big play explosive attack, but if you lose one as soon as one guy misses his lane or his assignment, he flip it out there.
And a talent like golf, it's six feet to the house and I mean, 8 minutes left.
I mean, yet other than 23 but crazy as your things have happened yeah that officially 60 yard touchdown golfs now got 74 on the night you kind of knew that you weren't going to shut him down completely, right?
Yeah.
That's how it almost makes you wonder.
I don't know.
The hindsight's 2020, but him really go with that option all night and it's worked so far here in the second half and now Goff is going to throw it into the endzone.
It's Deflected Away, Knocked Away that time by Brandon Scott and so it keeps the score at 35 to 12.
Yeah, it's still a three possession game at 23 points and I guess we have to mention it now is their 228 rushing yards and I don't have the calculator in front of me.
But Boonville had a chance to become the all time state rusher as far as a season and a team 5600 yards and the Bearcats are really to that.
So we'll have to break it out.
Maybe you have to throw it on the old social media machine after we're done here.
But either way, you're talking about 55, 50, 600 yards rushing in the season.
Pretty impressive what the Bearcats have put together this year.
So we saw them do the onside kick on the last time that they kicked.
So I would imagine you're going to see a heavy dose of that to try to get the football back.
You know, it really is kind of amazing, Bobby, that you see teams like bravery, really, anybody that have a hard time getting one onside kick.
But then you go watch Blast Academy and they go get two or three in a game.
Yeah.
That's when, when that's all you do.
Yeah.
That's all you practice.
But we saw, we saw them kick it deep three or four times, here's a onside kick and it'll be caught and taken down at the 48 yard line.
So, you know, every coach is going to cringe as I say this, but there's a difference between working on onside kick for 5 minutes once a week and your special teams period versus a kid who does it all season long.
That's all he does in practice.
100%.
I will I will agree.
I mean, that's what he does for 3 hours, you know, because I mean, I've been to a thousand practices in my life, been through them on both sides, working in and obviously playing Monday, usually punt return.
Tuesday is kickoff return.
And so you're only working on onside kick literally once a week for five or 10 minutes.
That's right.
So it's first and ten from the 48 yard line in Charleston territory clock rolls.
One or 8 minutes to play in this one five wide in the formation.
Scott's going to keep it himself.
It's a nice running lane up pass the 45 to the 44 and that's going to put Scott right near 100 yards.
So Brevin Ketter 137 for the Tigers and now Brandon Scott carries for 101 yards or 200 yard rushers.
Now for Charleston, they actually moved to they said his knee was down to 45.
So seven yard gain and it's now second down in three Scott going to throw going big ball down the middle of the field as the man is caught at the 15 by hill does walking hands up for the touchdown that is Reese Maresca who's was able to take it in for the score to the Booneville is sitting there watching that come at him he's like, I've got an interception just dead to rights.
I'm about to pick this off, maybe return it for a touchdown and it just outside of his outreached Morrison gets behind him breaks a tackle and Charleston back in the end zone rescue was able to walk in for the score.
It's now 41 to 12 pending.
The extra point.
We've seen plenty of big plays throughout the day today, but not nearly as many as it was in the four championship.
Yeah, the extra point is up and no good.
He missed it wide left so it keeps the score right there.
At 41 to 12, the scoreboard operator got a step ahead.
He thought it was good.
He put up the 42, but it's 41 to 12 with 706 to play here in this game.
And Charleston, they're just once again showing their strengths of this ball game.
Payton Tatum thought he had him a pick and then the back end of that defense, this just beyond him and a big play for Charleston's offense.
And now we're starting to see those numbers, just 13 of 20 for 130 yards.
Really, Scott hasn't been asked to show off the arm strength much where you can see him there.
He's almost fallen backwards, not stepping into that throw, but really nice throw.
And obviously that one just we've seen several back breakers tonight, but that one's crippling for Boonville.
His comeback chances.
You know, Brandon Scott, you know, as you said, he's not been asked to, but he's he's 65% completions far in this one.
I mean he's he's done everything that that has been asked of him in.
Plus not to mention he's run for 100 yards.
Yeah.
And he has it turn the ball over.
I mean that's something that he hasn't done all season long.
29 touchdowns coming into it.
You add the two tonight, he's over 30, only four interceptions.
They haven't put the ball on the ground.
They fumble one time tonight but didn't lose it recover that was on the muffed punt and so they've taken care of the football.
They've done all the little things.
Penalties haven't been a factor.
They've converted on a half of their third down attempts or two for three on third down.
Now you can dove into the box score and really get in the weeds with this.
But they've done the little things tonight and that's why they're 7 minutes from another state championship.
So Carter is going to put the foot into it and it will be taken into the end zone for a touchback.
And so Boonville will have it at the 20 yard line.
So this is going to add to the to the already tradition rich program that these two programs have.
But for Charleston, I mean, it goes back to the nineties.
I mean, you know, it really does.
I mean, a lot of people know Charleston from modern day the last 15 years, obviously toward Ty Storey was able to do Shaun Michael Flanagan, who's still playing at Oklahoma State.
There's a lot of big names, but if you go all way back to when Shane story to his father was the head coach, you know, you got Chris Wood who went on to his days at Greenbrier, of course, Doug Lockridge, Greg Kendrick, the coach there, won a couple titles.
And and now Ricky May can throw his name in.
That hat is as a state championship winning coach here here's the quarterback keeper is Tatum just lost his footing as he crossed a 25 yard line to the 26 and that's what's crazy that's what I that's what I love about small school football is because you can see just the success because they expect to win on Friday when they show up and they roll into your town, you know, hey, we're about to play ball and we're about to play Charleston or rise in awe of Prescott or Barton.
Yeah.
I mean, those teams win a lot of games when the before they get off the bus and that's it.
It's just it's it really is impressive to see them be so successful for decade long stretches, not just two or three years.
The ball was taken out to the 31 yard line.
And you know, what's really cool about both these two teams is, you know, they're always separated by, what, 16 miles and you know that these guys know each other.
I mean, it's not like they have just you know, they've never I don't really see each other very often.
They might be a rivalry, but they don't.
These guys see each other on a daily a weekly basis.
Here's an end around that's going to be taken up by Trey's haul and all is going to go out of bounds at the 35, you know, depending on where you live in the state we all like to compete about.
Oh, well, Northwest Arkansas is better.
All the Little Rock metros better.
Northeast Arkansas, the river valley is really undervalued when it comes to really comes the football you're right.
I mean you look at history wise what the Fort Smith schools are the north side.
South side.
Yeah.
But in the modern era, Charleston, Boonville, Greenwood magazine won a state championship about a decade.
And there's still a lot of really good teams who have kind of come through that area that doesn't get necessarily the recognition as maybe some of the other regions of our state.
You know, you're right.
I mean, you you always seem to think that when you talk about high school football in Arkansas, it gets really brought down to central Arkansas, in northwest Arkansas.
But that's really if you think about it, script is where it's at and then, you know, there's some good football.
And so we'll look at rise of, for example, down South Arkansas that they played well this year and the River Valley never really gets talked about well and that's out of Greenwood.
Yeah, in northeast Arkansas.
I mean, they're not winning championships, but in the individual basis, maybe had two of the best seasons in careers you'll ever see.
Connor Baker, the quarterback from Pocahontas, sets the all time state record for rushing touchdowns with 100.
Yeah, this year Dennis Gaines the running back from East Point said county in the class two way they lose in the semifinals set the record for most rushing yards in a season with more than 3200.
Yeah I mean so there there is great football being played all across our state but unfortunately because this is the only ones that are televised.
So you see we only see Central Arkansas and Northwest Arkansas.
That's why you love to see some of these other regions.
Representative Kind of like we are tonight with the River Valley.
Here's the pass play and try to hook up with Trace Hall.
And so that will now bring up second down for Boonville.
I will say that, you know, my my main job is on one of the three seven on the bus and we do a high school game of the week.
And I enjoy you know, we we try to branch out and you can't go statewide.
But I get to see a lot of these small schools and I love, you know, going to Clairton nor or going to Hazen and doing ball games because small town football not taking away anything from the bigger schools.
Yeah, it's just it's different.
It is, you know, it's different because it's the only thing to do in town.
Yeah.
So that's, that's the, the rallying point if you will, and you want to do something at your own football game or are you going to the basketball game?
And you know, again, and I've mentioned it several times through my time here on the broadcast, my dad was a high school football coach at some level.
That's why I loved high school football and sports at the local level, especially small schools, because it's near and dear to my heart, my family's heart.
Here's a handoff straight up the middle.
And that time, well, it was a fake, a handoff.
And then the quarterback, Tatum, took it himself and.
I'm with you.
Like not to discredit anything that big schools do, but a lot of times those are movies.
You know, they've moved them because of a job.
They don't necessarily go to school there or their kids didn't necessarily play at that high school.
And so the connections not always there, but when you get to the bigger towns in our state, the handoff once again this time, ELLIOTT He runs it down.
Pass the 45 to the 42.
Another first down for Boonville is we're down to 245 to 46 left here in the quarter.
Not to this get what those guys are doing because obviously the towns like Fayetteville and Bentonville and Bryant, they can play a little football.
Well, the academy a little run that they could play.
I got a text message.
You got a text from somebody just a minute ago and said, Bryant's a small town, but but it's got a big heart.
Yeah, yeah.
So it's Greenwood.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
It's here's golf up the right side.
And boy, I mean, think about these championships.
So over the last two weekends, I mean, you've seen a Bryant team that won five straight state championships, set a new state record.
GREENWOOD You know, they're doing what they do in the moves up and they went Harvey wins their first title since the seventies.
And I think what maybe the best story is they're counting their first year of ever had football wins the eight man championship you know and I said Greenwood but you know part of you goes in there and Brad Balding is he's kind of been the he's kind of been the Phil Mickelson of high school football because, you know, he couldn't ever get to that semifinal game and finally makes it here and and he wins the state championship.
So, man, and to your point, is it county which, by the way, I think eight man football is kind of turned into one of my favorites, just the condensed field.
And, you know, all the scoring that takes place just a little.
It's been a really fun couple of weeks of football here at the stadium.
Yeah, and we can't discount what Malvern did earlier today either.
Yeah, you're exactly right.
Yeah, they put up 60, 64 points, I believe it was this huge plays.
And, you know, the pre the running backs goes for the second most rushing yards ever in a championship game has the celebration is certainly beginning for the Charleston faithful.
But I mean, this is a great two weeks of celebrating high school football in our state.
And I'm thankful that Arkansas PBS has stepped up to the plate, the broadcast season and obviously all the fans tuning and showing up here at one more stadium to watch it in person.
Here is Trace Hall working around that left side goes out of bounds at 225 is the clock is that 48 seconds?
He does get the first down bit.
Yeah well you know, championship weekend may be over but you know, before we know before we know it will be looking around and it's going to be championship time once again.
Oh, we got our camera guys for a quick one.
We want to say thanks to those guys because they battled the elements.
They they really have those guys probably.
You know, we are we're on camera.
But these these and gals right here have been battling all day in the in the weather as here's another handoff to Elliott they go straight up ahead but and not only have they done it today but they've done it the cold last weekend.
There's another shot and we've got camera guys all over the place in the end zones up on the on the top of the stadium, now down on the field, doing a great job of getting the sights and sounds of everything going on.
But no, you know, we're told there's a there's our inside inside crew even got in here.
I don't know how that even happened, Edwin, and maybe just trying to get on here, but they do a great job.
Yeah, they really do.
And they'll take a couple of months off.
We're going to be back at it.
More, what, March 9th, basketball.
Is it too early to start talking about?
Basketball is just literally saying that, you know, you can take a breath, you can go open your Christmas presents and get ready for the new year because right.
That it's going to be time for basketball action.
And you and I will be doing those.
And March 9th, 10th and 11th over at Hot Springs, at the Hot Springs Convention Center.
And Bobby, it just, you know, I think back this is kind of crazy because, you know, when the whole Kobe thing started called off.
Sorry.
I know.
But that's where it was where you and I were sitting there going, what is happening right now?
And but it is a great time, those three days of watching high school basketball.
And you want talk about small towns and really seeing people rally around you.
You get some of those, you know, one a games or two games where the entire town shows up and fills up that arena.
That's a really cool three days, there's no doubt about it.
And, you know, last year we had a sold out venue for the four championship games.
Is this really cool?
And obviously we got to we got to put a bow on this and we can turn our attention to EA Sports next week than basketball.
Yeah.
Oh, by the way.
Yeah.
If you are in convoy next week and you want to see the EA Sports State Championship, it's going to be on Thursday at Hendrix.
But hey, you know what?
A championship is about to be crowned right now in 1/2.
That's going to do it.
The Charleston Tigers are your class three A's state champions as they knock off Booneville by a score of 41 to 12 sheer domination.
But defense showed up in a big way.
It held the Bearcats, the 290 yards and 230 that came halftime.
We're going to take a quick break.
When we come back, Madison is going to catch up with the Charleston head coach, Ricky May, as you're watching the Centennial Bank State Football Championships in Arkansas.

Let's head back down to the field.
Madison Fitzpatrick has got the winning head coach, ricky may.
All right, coach, 2022, three, eight state champions.
How does it feel?
You got this?
Good.
That's all I can say.
God is good.
It feels really good.
Kids fight really good.
Not We've talked about Tiger family all year and we had that tonight.
And I just can't say enough about them.
I just really good.
Really good.
Your defense was unstoppable throughout all the playoffs here tonight.
Just talk to me about them.
I'm just telling you, when we got in the playoffs, nothing out here.
They just stepped it up and just poured on and played great.
And obviously this is a huge rivalry.
What does it mean to your community to take home the W?
Well, you know, we did a special on this and all of us are friends.
And so this guy like, you know, just held the backyard, just getting after it and really proud of our kids, our community.
We want to win it for our community.
So congratulations, coach.
Thanks so much, guys.
Thank you, Madison.
Great job throughout the entire day today.
Madison is it's been a been a crazy day with the weather but how about Ricky Maye right there have yeah you can tell he's getting a little bit choked up in this one meant a lot it does it it's emotional for a lot of reasons because you know, he's a pastor at church in Baltimore.
A lot of these kids on the other side come to his church.
He coached at Booneville for a long time where he was an assistant to Coach Scott High.
And he goes to Waldron, comes back and then bounces over to Charleston.
It means a lot to win a championship, but he knows what those other guys are feeling on the other side too.
But to win this as a head coach, he's only been doing it for a couple of years, you know, and to win a championship, you can only imagine the emotion that's going through him right now.
Yeah, I know.
And Charleston has your three AA state champions.
Let's take a look at the final stats real quick for this one as really for both teams, it was a much better second half for Boone, but they ended up with 291 yards total offered of rushing and total offense.
Charleston, other hand, 130 yards passing, 257 on the ground for 387 total.
The second half is really more of an indication what kind of football team Boonville is 230 yards rushing in the second half as Charleston's about to get the hardware.
I mean that's what we expected was that that ground and pound from Boonville but Charleston's defense was was this to start the middle and that's why they're about to hoist the championship trophy and your MVP for this ball game.
It is Brandon Scott the quarterback 1320 passing for 130 yards, two touchdowns.
He also had 101 yards on the ground with two scores played defense as well.
And he had seven tackles.
Yeah, kind of candid at all.
I mean, and we knew one of the keys to the game was to force him out of the pocket.
Well, they didn't contain that.
They let him run the football too much.
And that's why.
Brandon Scott you're going to keep and that's why Charleston just stayed.
James Yeah, it's been a fun day and fun last couple of weeks.
I want to thank everybody who has helped with these broadcasts.
Also want to thank you for watching today's broadcast.
Don't forget, coming up right after this broadcast, it's the season three premiere.
