- I have found as an educator, and as an artist, and as a traveler around the world is that we can use the arts and all their beauty and glory and the interconnectedness to help us understand the world we're living in and ourselves, and also particularly, those who are different than ourself.
I found the art to be an ideal tool.
I speak only English, and a little bit of Spanish from taking a required class at university.
But I've traveled around the globe, and I have found that even though I have limitations in speaking languages, I can look and experience the art of different cultures and gain insight that couldn't gain any other way, even beyond the language itself.
That's 'cause of the interconnectedness of art, music, dance, drama.
And what I found is that there's two system.
Rites of passage.
Birth, puberty, marriage, death, and after death.
Every culture, every people have experienced and go through the rites of passage.
And the second is ceremonies and rituals.
All people transmit what is their perception of beauty and life in ceremonies and rituals to let us know what is of importance to them.
And every important station of life involves art, music, dance, drama, or the spoken word in some way.
