There's a nice sanded piano waiting for me, which was really cool.
But my design, I didn't account for these ridges, like, you know, this little molding.
I've learned how to paint on a 3D surface, which I have never done before, and usually painting on flat stuff.
I'm Theo Altmaier I am painting the piano right now off of Mountain Avenue.
These pianos are donated to artists and then they match up an artist with a piano.
And then the artist plays the piano.
And then the piano is put somewhere out in the world for the people to enjoy.
This red has needed a couple of coats.
When I get into that painting flow state, it feels very natural and like it's what I'm supposed to be doing.
It's fun working in public just because, like, there's so much going on and I get to see people's reactions to my art in real time, which is nice because with fine art paintings that go in galleries, you kind of don't get to see anybody's reaction to your art, even if they respond negatively.
I also think that's an interesting visit for some.
I graduated in 2024 with my BFA in painting and became an adult, and I got a job, and for the first month, I don't think I really made much because it was just wake up, breakfast, go to work.
Once I started injecting more creativity and getting back on like my artist feet, that was really important to make everything seem a lot less gray.
I want my piano to get your attention, to make you come over and like, interact with it a little bit.
I hope that even if people just pass by on their way to work, it brings a smile and brings a little more whimsy into their day.
