Shawn Welcome knows the power of words. He taught poetry in the Orange County jail, helping young people open up about their emotions and reflect on the paths they’ve taken. What began as a way to reach youth turned into something much bigger. Shawn founded “Diverse Word,” a weekly open mic that became a welcoming space for voices from all walks of life.
