(lively music) - ARUP Blood Services connects lifesaving blood donation with summer rewards through their Donation to Destination program.
Here to tell us more is Deb Jordan.
Welcome, Deb.
- Thank you so much for having me.
- So I hear that this is a pretty big initiative this summer.
- Yeah, I think it's our largest summer package of promotions that we've ever had at ARUP Blood Services.
- And why are the promotions kind of necessary to get people to come in and donate?
- It's tough to get blood donors in during the summer.
They're busy, they're hosting guests, they're traveling.
And so we wanted to add some extra promotions just to try to inspire people to come in and donate with us.
- How does it work?
- So if you come in and donate this summer, we feel that people wanna go on vacation this summer, and so we wanna help them out a little bit.
So we have some $500 travel gift cards, some $250 travel gift cards.
We also have memberships to local attractions like Red Butte Garden or the zoo or the aquarium.
And then we have some t-shirts and backpacks that we have also this summer.
We're giving out clear bags.
We have a special for 4th of July where donors can win $250 for our nation's 250th birthday.
And then we have Bees tickets and Post Malone tickets.
So if you come in to donate, you're walking away with something.
- Definitely, and I donated for years.
And you also kind of walk away knowing that you're helping people who really need it right now.
- You could save three lives by donating blood and it only takes about 40 minutes.
So the fact that you could just take a small break during the summer, come into one of our donor centers and save three people is pretty amazing.
- Yeah, you said it's a little bit more difficult because people are on vacation or they're kind of in a different mode.
But you're hoping that people will hear this and see some of the incentives and make their way out there.
- Correct, transfusions never stop at the hospital.
So whatever amount of donors we get during the day, we're open seven days a week, the hospital is still using the blood products.
We provide the blood to University of Utah Hospital and to Huntsman, and so they never close.
And so we're constantly in need of blood donors and platelet donors.
- Well, Deb, thank you so much for stopping by and sharing this information.
And if you would like to donate or participate in the summer Donation to Destination program, it's happening now through September, just head to utahblood.org to get more information or to sign up.
