Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipMy name is Ellen Sandbeck.
I'm a paper cut artist, I live in Duluth, Minnesota.
This show is called As long as the Rivers Shall Run, I'm exploring some of the major rivers in the world.
It's a series of very large paper cuts, the largest I've ever done.
I got a state art board grant in 2020 in order to learn how to do larger paper cuts and get the materials and equipment together that I needed to do that because I felt like I needed to work large in order to have people pay more attention to my work.
Because there's this thing about small work not being as important.
And of course, a lot of women do small work because it's affordable.
You can do it while you're watching kids in the house.
one of the ways I sort of explore the world is by learning about a specific subject matter and then doing paper cuts about it because it's a very good way to just sort of deeply explore something, meditate about it for long periods of time.
So what?
I really want to learn about something, that's how I go about it.
