A summer ruling by the US Supreme Court hands a key victory to Christian conservatives while also creating a potential slippery slope for businesses that provide goods and services.
In June, the high court majority sided with a Colorado Christian business owner who expressed refusal to design wedding websites for same-sex couples, citing the state had violated her free speech protections.
The ruling and initial hit on public accommodation protections in this instance for those in the LGBTQ plus community.
In a dissenting opinion by the three liberal Supreme Court justices, stated that the ruling had allowed a particular kind of business a constitutional right to refuse to serve members of a protected class.
Many legal experts agreed the decision opens the door for future cases.
Washington's Attorney General says "A vast majority of Washington businesses selling goods and services other than custom designed products must still abide by the clear anti-discrimination mandates in the state."
