We don't struggle because we're flaky.
We don't struggle because we can't get it together.
We struggle because we think different.
I don't fit into the system.
And so I had to have Fred to help me understand why I struggle, and to help me figure out how to not make it a struggle.
To make it a power.
There's also a courage to being able to go out and start a business.
Avanzar is a Hispanic Chamber accelerator program that we run here in Colorado Springs.
The primary focus is on Hispanic-owned businesses or businesses that serve the Hispanic community.
Hello, my name is Roxana Urpay.
Im the founder of My Momotoro.
We import and distribute cultura which means all our products are handmade by artisans in Latin America, like Peru, Ecuador and Mexico.
My name is Jose Dominguez, and I'm the co-owner of Agua Frescas.
Agua fresca is a freshly-squeezed fruit turned into a beverage.
It's a good synonym to Gatorade.
90% of our artisans are moms so they can stay at home, make their crafts, make their art from home and take care of the kids.
My most popular one is going to be this ducky right here, which is pineapple with guava.
And I also have watermelon, cucumber and lime, and horchata, mango, pineapple, orange.
So Avanzar itself is a pretty unique accelerator.
An accelerator is really focused on people who are already in business.
So what we're doing is instead of kind of establishing your idea and trying to prove that it works, we're taking your proven idea and we're just rocket-shipping this thing off.
And a lot of times what that is, that's advanced sales, advanced marketing, understanding processes, understanding financing.
And one of the best parts was if you don't understand some words, theyre going to provide us a translator in Spanish.
Tonight, we're going to talk about mental health, which is a lot about understanding you as an entrepreneur.
Really, that's one of the I would say is kind of one of the keystones of what we're doing is we're building that culture of inclusion and acceptance is we're all in this together, so why don't we just start talking to each other?
What I come back at is the career shock that I realized.
Like I am doing something that you can show for, I suppose.
Seeing your peers advance way further than what you've done with this business Its really hard.
But once you're in the network, the people who do understand what it's like to run a business, they help each other out.
Being an entrepreneur is a roller coaster.
When youre going to be down, you're going to remember what is your purpose.
So that's going to be something that's going to help you to going up again.
For me especially, that was the main question: Do I really want to grow up to keep doing this?
And I say, “Yes!
” My hard moment right now as an entrepreneur is to reward me, is to say to myself, “Hey, youre doing good!
” All my brain is, “Oh, Im an immigrant, and this is I must be doing this.
” I have to say something.
This is one of her pieces.
I love it, and I get so many compliments.
[clapping] Thank you.
I am born, grew up and went to college in Peru.
Mainly, I want to show how powerful, how friendly is my culture, and also being a role-mother for my community especially.
So far, I am pretty proud of myself.
My parents, they support me in some ways, but Yeah, someday I'll be able to show them and prove them that this this is not just a waste of time.
When life gives you a house, move it.
