Marion James, a singer-songwriter, immortalized Nashville's Jefferson Street corridor with her song 'Back in the Day.' This historically Black neighborhood is a vibrant hub for creativity in Nashville. Once a haven for runaway slaves, it is home to three iconic HBCUs - Fisk University, Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University - that educated doctors, lawyers & civic leaders.
