Mom and dad met in Europe at the start of World War II.
It was lucky that dad had a Chinese passport.
Who knows what would've happened without it.
>>In Budapest, life was fairly normal.
Manfung found work.
Magda quit show business.
Magda and Manfung had a son, Gary.
(trucks rattling) On March 19th, 1944, Germany invaded Hungary, where more than 800,000 Jews were still living.
Manfung heard of the invasion from his booking agent.
>>He said, "Do you know the bad news?"
I said, "What bad news?"
He said, "Didn't you hear the German are here?"
I said, "No kidding."
He said, "No."
And when I left him, I went to the, you know, main street.
I saw truck after truck, the German army, you know, come by.
That was terrible.
