(upbeat music) - Ballet Folklorico ECK Juvenil is presenting its sixth annual gala with the theme "The Story Continues," showcasing Mexican folk dance traditions.
David Silos and Amilia Nayely Silos are here with more about the event.
Hi, David.
Thank you for being here.
So you've been on before and told us how you've started this program, which is a wonderful thing you've done.
- Yes, it has been amazing part.
We actually have grown and helped out the Ogden community with an after school program this year, and it's a low income program, but it's still based with Ballet Folklorico as well.
- All right, and okay, so tell me about your big upcoming concert.
- So yes, that "Story Continues," La Historia Continúa, means that our story is gonna continue not just this time, but for future generations.
And we wanna make sure that our kids explore and know about culture, and by doing this we do this gala to promote it as well to get funds for our costumes for the following year for the next kids.
- All right, and your costumes obviously are beautiful.
Look at this.
Tell us about Amilia's costume.
- So this one is from the state of Puebla, and this one is all hand beaded.
Every single bead that you see here is hand done, and Amlia's wearing the little necklace and the shirt, and then this one right here is made by us, so we made those as well.
- Beautiful, beautiful.
And so you kind of highlight the dedication and what these students have done, all the young people you work with.
- You know, we treat it more like a safe environment where the kids can actually explore and learn about themselves as well.
So I have had some kids where they have been struggling with their parents or friends, and they come to the dance classes and it's like an incentive for them to relax, have fun, and do stuff.
- That's wonderful.
Well, thank you so much for coming and thank you for bringing that beautiful costume.
- Thank you so much for having us here.
- And if you'd like to know more about Ballet Folklorico and their upcoming six annual gala, "The Story Continues," it's September 6th at 6:30 to 10:00 PM, 240 North Redwood Road in Salt Lake.
Go to @balletflorkloricoeck, that L is supposed to be there, @balletflorkloricoeck.
