(upbeat music) - Ballet Folklorico ECK Juvenil recognizes the beautiful Mexican traditions, legends, cultures, and history by creating roots to prepare future leaders, so they can continue to spread seeds of peace, unity, and culture.

David Silos is here to tell us more.

Hi, David, welcome.

And you brought with you Millie, your daughter.

- Yes, my daughter, Millie.

- All right, so tell me why you founded this.

- So my daughter was at the Sorenson Center playing basketball, and she heard a music, a Mexican traditional music, and she went for a run for a look for it and found this other Ballet Folklorico, and she's like, "I wanna be part of that Mexican dance."

So from then, we took off back in 2016, and two years later, we decided to build Ballet Folklorico ECK.

With that, we do our main gala.

Every year, we do a gala, this year, it's gonna be September 22nd at Centro Civico Mexicano.

All of these funds and all the money that we get out of these gala, out of this fundraiser, is to buy and help our kids.

So we do these traditional dresses here, we actually order them from Mexico, so we help the Mexican artists as well as the Ballet Folklorico.

- Okay, that is just great, yeah.

And it all started because of you, Millie.

There you go.

And so, it's obviously for youth, and what ages?

- So the ages are from 7 years old to 18 years old.

And why we build this is because we wanna make sure that they have something to do, because they're our future leaders, right?

And we want them to stay focused on something productive, we want them to be, it's a good thing for them.

- [Mary] Yeah.

- And we wanna keep them out of the streets, we wanna make sure that they're on a comfortable space and they make a lot of good friends.

- Yeah, and celebrate their culture, which is is very beautiful.

- [David] Correct.
