(upbeat music) - Ballet West's "Pictures at an Exhibition" is a thrilling triple bill featuring two Utah premieres by two of the world's most renowned living choreographers.
Artistic Director Adam Sklute is here to tell us about it.
Hi, Adam.
- Hi, Mary.
- You've just got so much going on.
I know people have two more nights to see "Jekyll and Hyde."
- Yeah, we're right in the middle of the run of "Jekyll and Hyde," the first time Ballet West has ever produced it.
And it's a really exciting story ballet that's perfect for this Halloween season.
- Oh yeah, oh yeah.
And then you've got these three great ballets coming up.
- I mean, I'm so excited that we now do this full length right into our repertory program because it really fulfills our mission of giving something for everyone.
This program is all about music and art.
I mean, we're beginning that program with George Balanchine's heart-melting serenade to the Tchaikovsky's "Serenade for Strings," a wonderful classic.
And then two, as you said, two premieres for Ballet West by two of the world's greatest living choreographers.
Alexei Ratmansky, the Ukrainian choreographer.
- Wow.
- His pictures at an exhibition, all based on Kandinsky pictures, and using the music of Mussorgsky.
It is just so special and so unique.
And then closing with Christopher Wheeldon the British choreographer's "Within the Golden Hour."
- Oh.
- A stunning piece that's sort of evocative of that period of time in a beautiful sunset where you feel that energy of that.
And it's to the music of Ezio Bosso, based on Vivaldi.
So it really just is such a magical program.
- Wow.
Boy, no kidding.
I love this when you do this.
And "Pictures at an Exhibition" is such beautiful music too.
- Such beautiful music, yeah.
And I mean, it is also such challenging dancing, the technique that's required from all of our artists.
And what's so exciting is that Alexei Ratmansky, himself is coming out to work with the dancers right before we go on.
And that's a real honor for the company.
- No kidding, that is so exciting.
Anyway, I'm so glad you're doing all this, Adam.
- Aw.
- Congrats.
- Thank you, Mary.
- And I can't wait.
Thanks for being here.
- [Adam] Thanks for having me.
- And if you'd like to know more about that upcoming Ballet West production, "Pictures at an Exhibition" is one of three very exciting pieces, new pieces.
It's November 8th through 16th at the Capitol Theater, of course.
