Bacteria put some Shore beaches off limits temporarily

NJ Department of Environmental Protection issued swimming advisories for several beaches

Getting turned away from the beach is not what you want during a week like this. But that’s what happened to swimmers at several bay and ocean beaches along the Jersey Shore. The state Department of Environmental Protection banned swimming for a time at five beaches in Ocean and Monmouth counties after levels of fecal bacteria exceeding the state standard were detected in the water.
